Book Description
Oh, horsefeathers!
If you've ever wondered why the candy is called butterscotch; why a certain southern food is called a hush puppy; why tog supports in a fireplace are known as andirons, or sometimes firedogs, you'll be fascinated by the origins of the more than 600 words discussed in "a book that gets curiouser and curiouser as it goes along" (Son Francisco Chronicle).
Customer Reviews:
An etymological treasure.......1998-11-25
My grandfather's favourite word was "horsefeathers," so when I found this book on a library shelf in my junior high school in the 70's, I was shocked to discover that the original meaning of horsefeathers was not "balderdash" as I had assumed, but something quite different.
An online argument about the etymology of the word led to my purchase of the book from amazon.com. I highly recommend it both as a source of interesting word origins and (as it was in my case), an argument-winner.
It's a good buy. And I'm not full of horsefeathers when I say it.

Customer Reviews:
Great Book!.......2004-01-19
I think this was the best out of the series so far. I think that it tought alto about life and learning how to accept death of a family member. Also, I wanted the romance between Scoop and Jake to go on but the auther kind of left it on a cliffhanger. Over-all, a great read!
Pretty good.......2000-06-28
I liked this book and have also read the others. I believe the author did a good job and you almost feel like you are there with the characters.

Pretty good.......2001-02-21
I like this book and the first one too. I like the way Scoop treats her horses. I think it is neat how she rides bare back. I really hate her cousin Steven. This book was about Sarah Coop her friends call her Scoop. She has a horse stable for backyard horses and she has a couple of boarders but her one boarder might take their horse away to another stable so Scoop and her friends have to try to get the owners to let the horse stay there.

Horsefeathers #1.......2005-11-20
Sarah coop (Scoop) loves horses and keeps her beloved Orphan at her Grandfathers farm, but when her Grandfather has to leave the farm, and someone tries to sell everything her Grandfather owns, Scoop must do something to save Orphan and the farm. Read this book to see how she manages to save everything.
This is a good book which teaches us how to be a true friend and that even though things don't always go well God will be with us.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes horses and a bit of mystery.
Great for horse-lovers! I love it!.......2001-08-14
In HORSEFEATHERS, Sarah Coop (Scoop) is in need of money. Her Quarter Horse mix, Orphan, will be sold if she can't come up with enough money to pay the bank. A new friend, Carl, offers her a unique way to earn the money, but can she and Orphan do it? You'll have to read it to find out! (his is a very good book.)
A horse lover.......2001-03-07
I loved this book! I felt like I was there watching the story unfold right beforee my eyes. i could feel Scoop's excitement and relate to the story. I recommend this story to horselovers everywhere!

Pretty Good.......2001-08-19
Scoop gets another boarder for her stable. A paint named Diablo. Scoop'd friend Maggie 37 Brown starts hanging out with Diablo's owner. Scoop doesn't think Diablo's owner is very nice and she tells Maggie she shouldn't like him, but then she catches the kissing. Maggie wants to be an actress when she grows up. She always is looking for the right name, so she changes the color of her last name to what ever color she is wearing. She can be Maggie 37 Blue, Green or any color. Diablo's owner is going to sell Diablo because Diablo never behaves for him. Diablo seem like a nice horse to Scoop.
Customer Reviews:
Very well written and an awesome message.1 prob w/ it though.......2005-03-06
'Home is where your horse is', is a very good book.My 1 problem that I had with it though,is that I wanted more details about Scoop and Travis's relationship, and I kinda wanted a romantic ending with Scoop and Travis. But it still was a VERY good book.My favorite thing about this book is that Dandi gives the message in this book that even though you may not be genetically related to someone, they're still your family because in the Body Of Christ, everybody is family.I find it very cool that in the end, Scoop realized that it really didn't matter at that point who her birth-mother was,she was just thankful that her birth-mom brought her into the world. And another good thing that Scoop realized,is that whatever happened, her(and Orphan)would serve the Lord.Always.
Has Scoop found her real mother?.......2001-07-09
Scoop thinks she has found her birth mother in this book. Her name is Twila Twopennies. In the book before Home is Where Your Horse Is Scoop helped deliver a foal. Twila bought the foal and Scoop went to her farm to help. She found out that Twila had a baby the around the same time Scoop was born and she gave it up for adoption.

Fun, easy, and interesting.......2002-11-20
Horsefeathers is a fun book to read and brings up many ideas and information about horse husbandry. It is informative, yet basic and easy to understand. Not too specific or in depth into any subject, a nice overview.
Very easy to read and understand.......1998-11-11
Dr. Ramey is one of the few vets that make sense of common ailments of the horse. I must congratulate him on his no nonsense answers to questions I've had about horses. thanks for writing such a great book.

This renowned psychiatrist, author, and healer, encourages us to look again at what we know and see if it still makes sense in our lives. Sometimes we get so locked into old patterns that they keep us from truthfully looking at where we are today. CD

THIS IS THE BEST! ALL OF THEM ARE! .......2005-03-25
HorseFeathers are the BEST BOOKS EVER!
Of course MUCH better then Heartland i find those books...well.. rather BORING! i just skip skip skip end of book! Boring, but as i say everyone has a diffrent taste in everything. But these books! WOW a book you would never put DOWN! Love em' love em ALL!
Very good, but I expected better.......2005-03-06
Good book. This book has very good morals.I wrote a review for 'Home is where your horse is',and I accidentally said that I wanted a 'romantic ending' with Scoop and Travis, and I completely forgot that 'Home is where your horse is',wasn't the last book in the series. Now having said that,I meant to say that I wanted a 'romantic ending' with Scoop and Travis in this book.An-y-way,this is a good book, but it's not my favorite in the series. But,as always, like all the other books in the series, this book has very good christian morals to it.And that is probably one of the main reasons I like this series so much,is that in every single book there is a good message. I know this is off the subject, but here is some other AAAWWSSOOMMEE christian books;Arena,by Karen Hancock,Hangmans Curse,by Frank Peretti, and Nightmare Academy, also by Frank Peretti. Anyways, getting back to subject here, this is a well written and very good book with awesome christian morals, but like I said before,it's not my favorite book in the series.
King's Camp.......2001-08-18
I think this Horsefeathers book was preety good. Summer is almost over. When Scoop back to school her teacher will ask her what she has done during summer vacation. Scoop doesn't want the summer to end until she has done something. While going with her Aunt Dotty to pick up her brother BC from King's Camp she finds something she can do. King's Camp is getting four horses. The horses aren't ready to be ridden ans their isn't anyone to teach the kids how to ride. So Scoop boards the horses at Horsefeathers and teaches the kids how to ride. She has lots of problems first no one wants to ride, then all her friends quit helping her and she gets hurt. If King's Camp doesn't want the horses they will go to the slaughter house. Scoop has to get King's Camp to kepp the horses.
Customer Reviews:
horsefeathers' mystery.......2001-07-13
In Horsefeathers' Mystery Scoop is boarding three race horses Jackson, Storm, and Melly. Scoop falls in love with Melly. Someone is trying to hurt the horses, one night Scoop finds one horse bleeding. Scoop finds her brother BC playing with a burnt stick and thinks he has been playing with matches. The end is very sad and I was surprised when I found out who was trying to hurt the horses.
