Customer Reviews:
Great overview of everythign Orlando has to offer.......2007-03-28
This travel guide combines the right amount of Theme parks with classic Orlando. The top 10 attractions covered are primarily theme parks but then when region by region is broken down you can really see the various areas to explore in Orlando. From downtown Orlando to Cape Canaveral there are lots of fun and cheap things that can be done outside of Disney and Universal. This is a great start to planning any trip. If you are just going for the theme parks than I would use a different book but if you want to see it all this is the one to get.
Find the Best 10 of Everything.......2006-08-19
DK is noted for it's thorough and colorful books.
This book catagorizes the sights and gives the top 10 for each. Categories include: golf courses, places to cool off, festivals, high end restaurants, dinner shows, hip clubs, ways to have fun on the cheap, family restaurants, etc.
Each listing has a short description plus the address, phone and sometimes the hours. I do recommend getting a basic Fodor's or Frommer's for your trip and supplement it with Top 10 Orlando.
Within the theme parks, it lists the top ten attractions so you can make the most of your time. Really a handy little book (fits easily into a purse or camera bag).
With so much to see in the Orlando/Kissimmee area, this helps you prioritize your visit.
Excellent Book for Navigators & Floridians!.......2005-07-08
You will love the precise but beautifully informative ideas in this particular edition on Orlando.
Slim but super-informative!.......2005-02-16

Best book on Orlando, period........2002-08-09
This book goes beyond all others. A comprehensive, from-the-inside look at the fun to be had in Orlando. This guide couldn't be better. Intelligent, well written, and even witty. A good buy.
Book Description
Florida can be divided into seven distinct regions, each corresponding to specific geographic and cultural criteria. Marshy Everglades, and tropical Keys occupy the south, while the vacation capital of Miami rises along the east coast. From the extravagant Gilded Age of manses and fantastic beaches of the Gold and Treasure Coasts to the amusement parks of Orlando, and St. Augustine's Spanish-Colonial era architecture in the Northeast, Florida is a region of stark contrasts. For more valuable travel information about art, shopping, entertainment, nightlife, hotels and sports look to Eyewitness Travel to Florida.

A Must Have Resource.......2007-07-15
This is one of the best, most complete guides to Florida travel. I have several Florida guide and travel resources and find that I always go back to this book.
Great!!!.......2007-05-15
I really like those DK series book. I still didn`t go to Florida but the book is very nice.
Good but can be improved.......2007-03-29
I love this kind of guide for all the images they show of the places you are going to see. The only problem I have is that there is no much information about accomodations. For that I had to look into another guide or online.
Has to be the Very Best Book on Traveling in Florida I've seen!.......2005-07-08
You will love the photography, simplicity, and the creative work put behind this travel book on Florida.
A Good Primer for Travel in Florida.......2004-05-31
This is an excellent guide for those interested in exploring beyond the confines of Central Florida and the theme parks. From Perdido Key on the edge of the Panhandle to Key West and Dry Tortugas, you get a good overview of what Florida has to offer. With photos on almost every page and concise information, you'll be ready to hit the road and give yourself a complete Florida vacation. The book does have a section on the WDW and the other theme parks, and if that's your main interest, it would be better to get one of the many dedicated guides that cover the manufactured fun.
Book Description
With over 400 full-color photographs, maps and illustrations, this guide is packed with practical information on one of America's most popular family destinations.

Great start to planing an Orlando Vacation.......2007-08-26
This is an excellent overview of the Walt Disney theme parks and beyond. Each theme park is covered with the basics of each ride and show done there. While some complain that it is out of date that is the nature of publishing. No matter what you do you should always get a map of the theme park the day you arrive and check for new shows or rides. This book will help give you a basic idea of how much time you need to spend at each park and gives suggestions for how to spend four days in the Orlando resorts. The book does go beyond Disney to other Orlando resorts and also does a further afield section that covers the beaches and Cape Canaveral. Overall I have been very pleased and found it easy to use. I would also recommend the Top 10 Orlando guide by DK as a pocket guide for walking around Orlando.
Poor Info Under the Glitz.......2007-02-27
I was initially attracted to the fancy maps, the many color photos and the slick layout of this book. But I later was very disappointed by the contents. As I discovered from online sources, other much better books and the Disney on-line site, the DK WDW book is quite thin on the important details and even provides some bad advice. The description of FASTPASS misses important and useful details, ride descriptions are not informative enough and there is no information or tips on ticket prices or packages - even where to find them. Example: The "Top Ten" attractions in Magic Kingdom includes the carnival-like Aladdin Carpets but leaves out the Jungle Cruise, the excellent Mickey's Philharmagic and the fabulous "Wishes" fireworks show. The pathetic "Stitches Great Escape" is rated "Excellent" and no attraction receives ANY critical comments. Clearly this publisher is not providing unbiased information ... not even complete nor accurate information. Save your money. There are several vastly superior guides available, each for a lower price.
A kids review.......2005-04-24
I got this book from the library. HAs some charts of lighn waits and heights. The pictures are good but it has about the same info the disney website has. Don;t buy it if u want good info.

Customer Reviews:
Nice!.......2005-07-08
Nice! Excellent! You may need to get Lonely Planet's 'Miami & the Keys' for such a metropolis as Miami & the Keys. But still one of the simple books on travel for this region.
Disappointing.......2003-03-08
We love other DK "Eyewitness Guides," but this one didn't cut the mustard. It worked well as an travel overview of the region, but failed to mention several important points such as days and hours of operation and entrance fees to attractions, which we were stung by several times. A specific example was their recommendation of snorkeling at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. The book lists it as one of the best snorkeling spots in the U.S., but failed to mention that in order to see anything other than sea grass and the occassional crab, you are required to make reservations on a guided snorkeling boat. The guide also lacked directions. The maps that were included were insufficient. The restaurant recommendations we tried were fine, though, and we appreciated, as usual, the fine photos and "streetsmart" section.
Customer Reviews:
Awful!.......2007-03-23
What a disappointment! Despite its title, this 220-page book devotes just 48 pages to Walt Disney World. There are only eight pages on the Magic Kingdom, 12 on Epcot, 10 on Disney-MGM Studios and four -- four! -- on Disney's Animal Kingdom. As you can imagine, the information is skimpy. Many attractions are reviewed with just one sentence, sometimes even just a phrase. The coverage of It's a Small World is, in total: "a waterborne journey through a series of animated tableaux." As for hotels, each gets three sentences.
Though the book claims to be "Annually Revised," much of the information is out of date. This "2007" edition -- which, according to Amazon, was published in March 2007 -- still lists among its attractions Cinderellabration, Timekeeper, Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Tarzan Rocks, all of which shut down in 2006. Tarzan Rocks closed in January 2006, for heaven's sake!
In fact, I wonder exactly when this book was written. It states that the Tiki Room was "recently much improved," though that show's rehab occurred in 1998. It says another "recent" attraction is Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, a ride that debuted in 1998. Hmmm.
There is no mention of anything that's new. No "Finding Nemo -- The Musical." No "Laugh Floor Comedy Club." No new version of "Pirates of the Caribbean." And yes, I checked my copy. It's copyrighted 2007.
There are also, by the way, no park maps.
Even worse, a lot of the book is just plain wrong. Describing Disney's ticket choices, the authors say "Park Hopper" is the name of Disney's multi-day ticket. It's not! "Park Hopper" is an extra-cost option for the right to go to more than one park a day.
As for attractions, I'm not sure these writers have ever seen them. They say the Hall of Presidents features the current president "joining in on readings by the great presidents of the past." In truth, as even the most casual Disney fan knows, only the current president and Lincoln speak -- none of the others have ever said a word! The authors say Epcot's Spaceship Earth is the history of technology, when it's really the history of communication. They call Animal Kingdom's TriceraTop Spin "a roller coaster with spinning cars" when it's actually a Dumbo-like hub-and-spoke ride. How, exactly, does this "marvel of writing," to quote the back cover, get things so wrong?
For restaurants, again I doubt the writers have even been there. They list Bongos Cuban Cafe as being in the Magic Kingdom. It's actually in Downtown Disney -- five miles away!
The rest of the book proports to be about Central Florida and Orlando. I can't vouch for the accuracy of those pages -- I don't know, or care, about Flea World, Orlando's city bus line or that Denny's No. 3162 is open 24 hours. But I have my doubts. For restaurants the authors list Chili's -- yes, the chain -- as "Mexican food at its best."
Frankly, the two books to buy about Disney World are:
The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2007 (Unofficial Guides) and
The Complete Guide to Walt Disney World.
Between the two of them you'll have everything you need.

This book has it all, and then some!.......2002-03-20
Having never been to Florida, I needed help. This book is fabulous, not only does it give you maps from one end to Florida to the other, the pictures are beautiful. It even has pictures of the food served at various restaurants.
I spent hours looking through all the travel guides at my local book store and this is the one I decided on.
Let me say that it difinitely made our stay in Florida a much more enjoyable experience. With the help from this wonderful book, we knew where to go, what to expect, with maps galore, suggestions on museums, national parks, wildlife, hotels, the whole shooting match............this book is unbelievable!
Excellent Florida resource.......2002-01-07
I bought this book for relatives that are "snowbirds" spending the winter in Florida for the first time. Have used the Insight Guides series but this book is just as good or better. Excellent information, great maps and illustrations and very up to date. Having travelled in Florida, I found its information to be highly accurate. I also received a couple of "thank you" cd roms from the publisher. Highly recommend the book
Great Information and Format.......2001-03-28
This guide is excellent in getting you to the most interesting places in Florida. It has many great photos and descriptions that help you decide where you want to go, especially when you don't have as much time as you would like. I really like the overall format.
The easiest way to travel when you do not know the place.......2000-10-05
In a sea of dismal travel books, the Eyewitness Travel Guides published by Dorling Kindersley stand out like a lighthouse. Last year we traveled to Florida and relied heavily on this guidebook. Not only were the maps, directions, and recommendations absolutely perfect, but the high quality of this book and its absolute comprehensiveness (especially in light of its price) make it a must-buy. The best are its beautiful images in this guide easily recall some of our best moments, making it a keepsake even after the trip. The flexible, plasticized cover also means it stays looking nice, even after spending all day in a crowded backpack. All told, the perfect travel guide and another in a long line of excellent Dorling Kindersley books.Since then, I have bought this guide wherever I travel ( New York, Paris), and I am now buying it to give as present to my family and friends
