Customer Reviews:
Fanctastic Trip Planner.......2007-10-03
What a wonderful resource! Terrific information that helped us plan - and enjoy a wonderful trip.
A little ponderous for my taste.......2007-09-12
This book contains a ton of information. However, it's very "text-booky". I found it hard to stay engaged while reading it.
Alaskan Cruise.......2007-09-03
My business is travel and many of my clients enjoy cruising. This book was very helpful is assisting me with my clients in planning their Alaskan Vacations. My family and I do plan to go to Alaska in the near future, sounds like an exciting vacation!
Billy Wannyn
A little dry.......2007-06-26
The map is good, but overall, I didn't find the book very engaging -- a little bit dry.
Great Research for a Cruise.......2007-04-05
If you are planning an Alaskan Cruise this is the book to get. I wish I'd had it before signing up for the cruise - I would have picked one that stopped at some of the cities that our cruise won't be stopping at. The book does a great job of talking about cruises in general without giving too much attention to any one cruise line. The book was real handy in choosing which shore excursions to take. If you're taking a cruise to Alaska, this book is much more handy than the Eyewitness Guide Book for Alaska which only covers on-land sightseeing.

Book Description
Revised yearly, STREETWISE is the best-selling map of WASHINGTON DC, with coverage from the Pentagon/11th Street Bridge to Garfield/Franklin Road. Points of interest such as museums, parks, and popular sites are highlighted and fully indexed. Localities covered include Georgetown, Arlington National Cemetery, Rosslyn, Anacosta, and the Potomac River. Also, there is an inset map of the WASHINGTON DC Mall. Laminated for durability, accordion folded to fit in your pocket or purse, STREETWISE gives you WASHINGTON DC in a clear, concise, and convenient format.
Customer Reviews:
Best DC Map.......2007-08-12
This was the best source for helping us maneuver through the maze of buildings, monuments, and memorials in Washington, DC. The map is very functional. Flip it one way and you see the Metro, flip it another way you see the mall, still another and you have a DC area map. Since it's laminated, I kept it in my pocket while walking around and didn't worry about it getting sweaty or damaged. I really like the detailed names of the buildings and monuments near and around the national mall. Metro stops and streets are well marked. The next best thing to GPS.
Small Map.......2007-07-16
Map is extremely small and difficult to read. It did help but, it was not easy to use, especially while driving when information is needed rapidly.
New in town lifesaver!.......2007-05-18
When I moved to DC I had only been there one additional time, my job interview! My friends got me a guide book for moving to DC and this map. It saved my life the first trip to DC on a weekend, and it helped me explore great dining since I knew how far it was to walk or Metro. I love this map so much I know have one for most cities I visit, like Manhattan!
Good things do indeed come in small packages.......2007-05-10
This map was a great help when we were in DC - the detail was fantastic and it was easy to tote around. The enlarged detail for the national mall was extremely helpful
one small detraction - the print is small - so be warned
Outstanding map... but get the right one.......2007-04-11
Streetwise maps are laminated and meant to fold up small enough to fit in a hip pocket. This map of Washington DC includes a small street index as well as an index of local attractions. There are also indexes for top attractions, parks, and public buildings. The map itself is very clear and well marked. It includes a small separate map showing the routes that the Metro trains follow. Additionally, there is page that shows a blown up map of the Mall that is amazing in its clarity as it really highlights the locations of all the museums, monuments, etc. in this highly popular tourist area.
One should be aware, however, that Amazon sells two different Streetwise maps for DC. One is labeled as "Compact" and is just 6.75" tall. The other is a bit bigger at 8.6". While this doesn't sound like a big difference, it has a huge impact on how easy it is to read the map. The small one has very fine print and can be quite difficult to make out. The larger one will still fit in a pocket and will also take major strain off of your eyes. Make sure you have the right one prior to ordering, amazon even mingles the reviews for the two so it can be a bit confusing.

Customer Reviews:
Must have!.......2007-08-12
This is my second gazetteer I wore the first one out. If you ever want to get lost or not get lost you need this map. This is a very detailed map and works great for planning outings to anywhere. The only thing I don't like is the contour lines, they need to be a little easier to read, for me at least. Still you can't beat this for the price!
Still haven't fixed previous versions errors........2007-08-09
I purchased this map as a hopeful update to an earlier version of the same map. The only problem is that all the forest service road & trail errors that I had to deal with in my previous version were still present. That is not a particularly good thing if you plan on relying on the map while out in the woods. I have since returned this map for a refund.
If you are interested in purchasing a map that has accurate forest service, BLM, and state trails and roads, I would recommend the Benchmark Road and Recreational Atlas. If all you want is a topographical map of the state, then this should work.
best tool for hunting and camping.......2007-07-31
So far this atlas has been the best tool i have to plan for family camping trips, and for hunting in the fall. I don't know how I lived with out it. The details you get from it are amazing, from camp ground information and finding new camp grounds that no one has ever heard of to helping to find just the right area to scout out for the deer hunt. I will never be with out one of these Atlas and Gazetteer's again
almost too detailed.......2007-06-13
great map, now have oregon and washington, almost too detailed, be sure to have an overview hwy map for the big picture.
About the best print map for public lands..........2006-11-04
If you need a print map to help navigate your way through unpaved BLM and Forest Service roads this is your map. You'll even find major hiking trails, campgrounds, hot springs and more.

A Good Navigational Tool.......2007-01-10
I decided not to go fancy, and buy a GPS navigation system. However I wanted a reasonably compact map book that I could carry in my truck. I drive mostly in Pierce County. I gave this map book a five because it illustrates all the local roads, and points of interest, at a fine level of detail. I use this all the time to look for shortcuts or to route around traffic jams and construction. Even if I had GPS navigation, I would still keep this book as a backup.
fine map.......2007-01-09
If you're still using paper maps instead of GPS, this one is the one to have. Without a doubt, get the 3 county instead of the single King county map. It's big, but it's effective. Load the free cd in your computer too.

Battle Front 2: Game Guide.......2006-11-12
I found this manual very helpful, a nicely detailed walkthrough and maps that make sense, generally very usefull especially when you are stuck.
Simple; easy to use........2006-02-25
This is a simple and easy to use strategy guide. What a strategy guide should be, complete and thorough.
great strategies!.......2006-01-23
Star wars battle front 2 is a good game and the game guide is just as good.do not listen to these people.Lets say you are a jedi and lets say your mace windo.it will tell you the quickest way to kill CIS droids. This game guide gives specific details and great maps.
Pretty Good.......2006-01-21
I agree with the other guy who wrote this review also....you don't realy need the walk through part. I think that the vehicle and character descriptions are helpful though.
Intresting.......2006-01-11
I'm terribly sorry, but this is just one of those games that does'nt really need a guide. The layout and gameplay are simple, and the need for a walkthrough is rather moot. It is an good way to pick up odd hints or if you can't find something, but much of the info and "exclusive tips" are rather obvious. "wrap the AT-AT" or "try to get the hero". I mean, duhhhhhh. Of course you want to do those things. It's a waste of money unless you can find it dirt cheap. Save for a game instead.

Book Description
During the Civil War women did a lot more than keep the home fires burning. Expanding on his pioneering Patriots in Disguise, Richard Hall has now produced the most accurate and up-to-date survey available of women who were determined to serve their nation in that time of crisis.
Drawing on a wealth of regimental histories, newspaper archives, and a host of previously unreported accounts, Hall shows that women served in more capacities and in greater number-perhaps several thousand-than has previously been known. They served in the infantry, cavalry, and artillery and as spies, scouts, saboteurs, smugglers, and frontline nurses. From all walks of life, they followed husbands and lovers into battle, often in male disguise that remained undiscovered until they were wounded (or gave birth), and endured the same hardships and dangers as did their male counterparts.
Hall presents the most complete portrait yet available of these courageous women-including Sarah Bradbury, Lizzie Compton, Frances Hook, and Confederate spy Loreta Janeta Velazquez-many of whom earned the praise of the male soldiers they served with and rose through the ranks to become sergeants, even officers. Through his investigation of specific case histories, he has authenticated many previously undocumented reports while debunking myths and exposing previously published errors about the subject. The book also includes a biographical directory of nearly 400 women participants and dozens of Civil War documents attesting to women's role in the war.
As a new synthesis and critical appraisal, Women on the Civil War Battlefront is a richly anecdotal work that unearths a hidden history and opens a new window on women's lives in the nineteenth century. These women were determined to serve, and Hall's research confirms that they did so in significant numbers-and with distinction.
This book is part of the Modern War Studies series.

STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT STRATEGY GUIDE
Customer Reviews:
Whats your problem?!.......2006-03-06
This book is pretty good whats with negitive reveiws? I mean its not that bad! :( Good game guide though little pricy
Not very good........2005-09-24
First, the book is really for online playing only. No hints or tactics for offline play. Second, it isn't very helpful or detailed for online players either. Example:
The chapter on the Kashyyyk Docks explains tactics that either the Clones or the Droids could use. But nothing about how to play it as the Empire or the Rebels. As they have different equipment and vehicles the same strategies might not work for them. Also, some of the strategies are too simple.
For example, using the same map as an example, they suggest you take the village command post, City Hall, to cut off the supply of Wookiees then hunt them down. Well, duh. If I could get my troops to City Hall I wouldn't need to hunt down the Wookiees because I would have won already! It's a Catch-22 - to get to City Hall to cut off their reinforcements you have to wipe most of them out to break thru their lines to take City Hall to cut off their spawning point. What I need is information on how to do that as a offline player! Online players have dozens of human controlled troops who know what to do. I don't. I have dozens of AI controlled troops standing around, running the wrong way and charging into enemy gun fire without dodging!
Pretty worthless unless you can get it used and even then reading The Art Of War would get you better ideas.
Does a nice job.......2005-08-12
I bought this guide because I (38 yrs old) was losing my edge to my son (9 yrs old) and I particularly needed some winning strategies on Dune Sea.
Unfortunately, most of the strategies are written assuming you're playing as part of a multi-player online team. Not so much for those us that play offline (splitscreen). We splitscreeners have a hard time attacking multiple objectives as different soldier classes in the first two minutes of battle - we need advice on what is the "key" objective, and which secondary objectives are better left to your lower-intelligence AI comrades.
But you learn a lot about the maps and some esoteric details you might not pick-up by playing even as much as we do. Plus, we get to extend our battlefront experience even when "Mom" has made us turn the t.v. off. I still can't beat my son on Dune Sea, though.
why do you need this?.......2005-05-17
Wats the point of getting this I beat the whole game in an hour. It was that easy. the bodys dont stay when the die which was stupid. and abouve all it showed who had killed u. that was horrible. game gets 4-5 book gets 1-5
Incomplete.......2004-10-10
One of the great mysteries about the game Star Wars Battlefront is why the manual is so incomplete. It provides only a limited subset of the keyboard / mouse commands (PC version), and it further fails to describe in adequate detail the key abilities of the different character types (e.g., pilot, scout, infantry, etc.).
I purchased the "Official Game Guide" in hopes that it might fill in some of this information, and, surprisingly, it didn't. For example, it includes statements to the effect "Use your pilot to heal other characters," but nowhere in the guide, or the manual that came with the game, does it illustrate HOW to do that. (For what it's worth: by pressing "g," you have to choose heal / repair as a pilot's secondary weapon. Then, right-click the mouse to deploy a healing kit.)
The manual does however provide useful maps and a decent description of the strategies either side of a battle might use to their advantage.
In sum, the manual that comes with the game is incomplete, at best, and this "official guide" does not fill in all of the gaps. It is surprising to me that there isn't a good summary of the keyboard / mouse commands, nor gamepad commands for other platforms.

Book Description
There are many books on the Iraq war and on WMD-type issues, but this is the first to offer a historical overview of chemical-biological defense issues and a policy analysis of how the U. S. government addresses the threat of weapons of mass destruction and how ground forces deal with the problem on the battlefield. Al Mauroni looks at how the 9/11 disaster forced the Department of Defense to review its management of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) defense equipment and then make significant changes. He outlines in detail the government's decision to invade Afghanistan and Iraq and search for WMDs.
The fact that no such weapons were found, the author explains, has had dramatic consequences for how U.S. military forces address the use of nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons in Iraq and how they support the federal response to terrorist incidents involving these weapons at home. Mauroni draws on two decades of experience in the area of chemical-biological defense policy to present this comprehensive analysis of the decision-making process within the Department of Defense and the actions of U.S. forces in the second Iraq War. Explaining that "WMD" is no longer a useful term for the threat faced by military leaders and emergency professionals, he also outlines a number of lessons learned from the conflicts in the Middle East and offers recommendations on how to improve CBRN defense for the future.

Good Info and Insights for those in the Business.......2006-11-13
For those that work in the profession of defending America and its interests from the threats of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) hazards "Where Are the WMDs?" provides a wealth of good information and background. It is particularly useful for those working at the strategic level at the Department of Defense level--Service Headquarters, Office of the Secretary of Defense and similar organizations. Individuals that operate at tactical or operational levels may not be as interested in some of the efforts and history that took place in and around Washington DC. But in order to understand where the CBRN defense program needs to go, it is useful to know where it has been.
Al Mauroni is one of the few professionals writing in this field and many of his ideas are valuable:
* He argues passsionately for a clear-eyed appraisal of the CBRN threat--massive chemical attacks vis-a-vis the Soviet Union are much less likely today--and thus our strategy and acquisition objectives should also change.
* He makes a good case that the term "WMD" is not useful and that we need more accurate terminology to define the problem set.
* Mauroni also clearly sees that the domestic threats need to be treated differently than those encountered in wartime--a distinction that many today seem to overlook. Application of domestic environmental standards like those found in OSHA, NIOSH and the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, which are necessary when operating in the U.S., would be disasterous when operating in overseas hostile environments where other dangers such as bullets and IEDs are also present.
Not recommended for the casual reader, but for those that have an interest or are engaged in CBRN defense at the strategic level in the US Government, this book provides useful background and a number of important ideas.

Homefront & Battlefront: Nelson BC in World War II by Sylvia Crooks chronicles the lives and deaths of courageous Canadians. It also tells the inspiring story of how the citizens of Nelson of all ages, with help from surrounding communities, marshalled all their resources and devoted their civic life for six long years to help make victory possible. Their efforts prompted some to call Nelson The Most Patriotic Town in B.C. And, Nelsons story highlights an important chapter of Canadian historythe invaluable contribution to the Allied war effort made by countless small Canadian communities across the country.

Book Description
Gooderson addresses the fundamental questions of whether the employment of air resources in the close support role provided sufficient advantage at the battlefront to justify the expenditure of effort and the risk to aircraft and pilots, and whether air support proved to be of more value - and more cost effective - when directed upon interdiction targets behind the lines, such as German communications, transport and supplies.
The principal sources consulted were contemporary Army and Air Force formation and unit records and reports, and contemporary Allied Operational Research material. The book examines the nature of Operational Research in the period, the joint Air Force/Army systems established by both the British and Americans for providing and controlling air support, the characteristics of fighter-bomber aircraft and the organisation and tactics of fighter-bomber units. This precedes an analysis of close air support for mobile and airborne operations, the employment of fighter-bombers against German armoured forces, the use of heavy and medium bombers in the close support role, the comparative effectiveness of fighter-bombers and ground artillery and the effectiveness of fighter-bombers in the interdiction role.

Book Description
The struggle between Germany and the Allies along the Western Front is for many the most familiar element of the First World War. Nevertheless, many less well-known theatres of conflict, key to the overall progress and conduct of the war, hold as much relevance to both the traveler and the armchair enthusiast. Deploying extant and contemporary photographs and maps to examine the terrain over which these campaigns were fought, Martin Marix Evans sheds light on the fighting methods of the protagonists in less familiar settings, whether in the Italian Alps or in the cloying heat of the Greek coast. In the first weeks of fighting, stubborn Belgian resistance resulted in a desperate battle to stabilize the front and compelled the German advance to be diverted against the British at Ypres. French determination to win back Alsace-Lorraine plunged the Vosges region into fluid conflict for over a year from August 1914 before both sides realized the impossibility of a decisive success in this area. The three-year struggle between Italy and Austria across the alpine passes was to draw German, British and French forces into the region. Anglo-French assistance to the Serbs through Salonika produced a standoff between the Allies and the Central Powers which was only to be resolved in the last months of the war. Martin Marix Evans succeeds in bringing to life these hitherto neglected theatres of operations and places them in the context of the war as a whole.
