Book Description
In the years since the publication of Atherton and Sheppard's volume, the technique of Fmoc solid-phase peptide synthesis has matured considerably and is now the standard approach for the routine production of peptides. The basic problems at the time of publication of this earlier work have now for the most part, been solved. As a result, innovators in the field have focussed their efforts to develop methodologies and chemistry for the synthesis of more complex structures. The focus of this new volume is much broader, and covers the essential procedures for the production of linear peptides and more advanced techniques for preparing cyclic, side-chain modified, phospho- and glycopeptides. Many other methods also deserving attention have been included: convergent peptide synthesis; peptide-protein conjugation; chemoselective ligation; and chemoselective purification. The difficult preparation of cysteine and methionine-containing peptides is also covered, as well as methods for overcoming aggregation during peptide chain assembly. Many of the techniques developed for the production of large arrays of peptides by parallel synthesis, such as t-bag, SPOT and PIN synthesis, have naturally been included. Finally, a survey of available automated instrumentation has also been provided.
Customer Reviews:

Book Description
Immunochemistry of Solid-Phase Immunoassay fills a niché in the field of immunoassay and immunology. Although solid-phase immunoassay constitutes a major technology in biology and medicine, there is no comprehensive source devoted to the immunochemical principles involved. As a result, this book will benefit students, technicians, and researchers who use this technology, as well as immunodiagnostic and biotech companies who develop the technology. The book is not a methods manual; instead, it incorporates the concepts, data, and opinions of more than 25 investigators working in this field. Topics discussed include: the chemistry of solid-phases, the behavior or antibodies and antigens on solid phases, membrane solid-phases, reaction kinetics, antigen quantitation, enzyme systems, photophysics, immunochemical considerations in data analyses, multianalyte assays and occupancy concepts, antibody quantitation, streptavidin, a review of data analysis software, and solid-phase peptide immunoassay.

Book Description
The rapid expansion of combinatorial chemistry has renewed interest in solid-phase organic synthesis, a method that lends itself well to creating and screening large numbers of lead compounds. Solid-Phase Organic Syntheses, Volume 1 is the first volume in a series that will be updated annually, filling a gap in the existing chemical literature. Providing information previously unavailable from a single resource, this series is dedicated to providing researchers in the field with validated and tested methods for the solid-phase synthesis of interesting and biologically relevant molecules.
Solid-phase methods will virtually always be invented for application in combinatorial organic synthesis. To meet these specific needs, Solid-Phase Organic Syntheses, Volume 1 focuses on a single type of synthetic transformation accomplished on solid support, and indicates how procedures are optimized to work with a structurally-wide variety of reagents. Written by recognized leaders in the field who review and test all chemical protocols before publication, organic transformations are organized by type of compound synthesized and reaction type.
For the first time, experimental details for proven solid-phase synthetic molecules are collected in a single, invaluable resource. Solid-Phase Organic Syntheses, Volume 1 provides combinatorial chemists and researchers in organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry with the tools and descriptive protocols to achieve syntheses of desired compounds using a variety of solid supports and reagents.

Customer Reviews:
Best yet.......2006-11-07
I have traveled to most all "corners" of the world and purchased many guidebooks. This one is without a doubt the best yet. The prices quoted are about 2/3 of actual but the economy in Argentina changes quickly at times and all are in relation to inflated costs per vendor. My congratulations to the writer and thank you for making my trip so much better!
This guide is in desperate need of an update. Not Recommended. .......2006-04-09
Of the five Argentina guides I brought with me (3/2006) this guide is the least useful and, the most out of date. Do not let the publishing date fool you; the information in this guide comes from research done in 2001/2002.
In the past four years much has changed in Buenos Aires. None of the hotel rates given in this guide are anywhere near what is being charged today. There are hotels that charge triple what this guide quotes.
The writing is uninspired and reads like something that you would read a government office of tourism. There is little information to helps you connect with the unique culture and characteristics of Buenos Aires. The maps in this guide are very difficult to use. The publisher has crammed everything on one map: hotels, restaurants, sights to see, etc. There are much better maps in other guides. The guide's recommendations for restaurants is sub-par in comparison to other guides.
For Buenos Aires, one of the best guides out is Fodor's `Argentina'. Fodor's has excellent maps of the city and it has great recommendations for both restaurants and accommodations. Caveat: only use Fodor's `Argentina' (3rd edition) for Buenos Aires, outside of the capitol Fodor's is dismal as a guide. For a great all around Argentina guide consider either Lonely Planet Argentina 2005 or Rough Guide Argentina 2005. This guide is not recommended.
Good writing, excellent layout.......2006-01-17
I just spent six weeks in Buenos Aires and used this book as a guide to my daily activities. Useful for more than just getting around, the book gives a careful, balanced view of many aspects of life in BsAs. The list of suggested readings in the back of the book shows the author's good taste. Instead of a book filled with hyperboles and hasty suggestions, you have a volume of reliable, thoughtful observations. An excellent companion to the beautiful city.
The best of a small bunch.......2003-12-21
South American guidebooks aren't as plentiful as those from other parts of the world, so I often have to buy several to get complete information. This Buenos Aires edition from Moon Handbooks was surprising because it not only included some great information on the city, but had better information on surrounding areas like Montevideo than my other Uruguay book. Also included up-to-date hotel information that was simply missing from the others.
