    5 out of 5 stars This is a MUST-HAVE for teachers!!.......1999-07-23

This book offers detailed information about different critters that are "common" to a classroom in an interesting and "easy to read" way. It provides terrific experiements to conduct, and values following the chid's lead and interests- creating experiments from their questions! WONDERFUL!

5 out of 5 stars I highly recommend this book to k-12 science teachers!.......1999-07-10

This is an excellent book for anyone interested in science experiments and the scientific method. It is appropriate for any child grades k-12, with minor adaptations. The writing is clear, concise and accurate. Most of the experiments involve insects. Materials are inexpensive and easy to obtain. The book contains lists of suppliers and references. Data charts and tables are included and need only be copied by a teacher.

5 out of 5 stars Durable and exciting.......2007-09-10

This is entertaining even for adults. The text is a little dull, but the pop-ups are extraordinary! We use the text just for naming the creatures. Our favorite pop-up is a little blue eel -- that creature has come out of its cave *hundreds* of times. We've had the book for a year and the pop-ups are still good -- very durable. 4 out of 5 stars Funky music with CD.......2007-05-11

I have not used this book with its CD at school yet but am looking forward to sharing it with my class. I bought this book as it seemed to be a good companion to have with The Farmyard Jamboree which I had already ordered from Amazon.com. My young class love music so it is good to have such excellent books to share with them and let them see what a range of musical instrumments are around. When I was a child I remember listening to Peter and the Wolf and learning to distinguish the different classical instrument's sounds, and it always remained with me as my first real introduction to the instruments of a classical orchestra. This book/CD does the same with jazz instruments as well as using a range of interesting insects into the bargain.

4 out of 5 stars Catchy Tune, Colorful Bugs.......2007-01-09

I'm not exactly sure why, but for some reason my two-year-old daughter is totally smitten with this book and calypso tune. I can assure you I have played the CD that accompanies the book SO MANY TIMES in my car that the two of us can sing it backwards. The info about musical instruments at the back is over her head, but would be great for music teachers or older (5+) kids interested in music. bnm

As the world heads for food shortages in the next century insects can help meet humanity's growing nutritional needs.

Creepy Crawly Cuisine tells you everything you need to know to make insects a part of your diet. It includes an overview of the use of edible insects by indigenous cultures, information on where to obtain insects and how to store and prepare them, and over 60 gourmet recipes, complete with stunning color photographs, that let you take the cooking of insects to dazzling culinary heights. 4 out of 5 stars entomophagy ROCKS!.......2003-09-08

okay so i've never eaten a bug- but i love reading about the subject! My best friend gave me this book for my sucky birthday! lol- and it totally rocks...

Julieta gives great nutritional advice on different bugs and descries each bugs particular flavor in reference to things common that we know of.... it is well written and very informative from calories to essential amino acids to proteins and vitamins... the book covers different countries in it's concise and informative beginning. I also liked the fact that the author gives you the actual family and genus name of the species.

the photos however are why i gave the book 4 stars.... most of the photos i feel as if i had already seen in "man eating bugs" because the same photographer helped publish both books... i never really tried the recipes of course.. but julieta does give helpful resources and advice on breeding your own bugs for food!

Loved it read it several times.... get it for your collection!

5 out of 5 stars It transform's you in to a bug eater! for life........2000-06-27

This is the best book i have read about edible insects, i find it rare but exciting, after you read this book you will go to your garden and gather some insects.

3 out of 5 stars Great Recipes, But Kind of Improbable.......2000-04-28

This book contains some great recipes with a south-of-theborder-flavour, but all the same, you may find some of these bugs a tad bit exotic . . . where in the world can you get a half-pound of tree-hoppers anyway? So this might be a bit much for the novice without special resources, but on the whole is well worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent entomophagy reference and cookbook.......2000-02-20

The author of this book is probably the world's foremost authority on entomophagy. I consider this book the best entomophagy book in print. The book is thorough in its coverage of the value of insects as human food. The author is a superb cook and the recipes are delicious and very artfully prepared and photographed.

5 out of 5 stars Great book with great recipes!.......2000-02-18

One of the most enjoyable additions to our culinary bookshelf! This book is filled with great pictures and even better recipes. Even though we haven't been able to try them all, we've loved the ones we've tried. Do yourself a favor and try this one out!

5 out of 5 stars A unique, fun survey of insects, birds, and small creatures.......2006-06-13

Hans Post is former Head of Education at the Rotterdam Zoo in the Netherlands and Irene Goede studied illustration in that country. Together these two provide a unique, fun survey of insects, birds, and small creatures such as hedgehogs in Creepy Crawlies. Lovely and realistic color drawings accent a survey which uses the "hook" of a cat's explorations through a traditional European garden as a foundation for outdoor discoveries. An inviting, wonderful coverage, Creepy Crawlies is enthusiastically recommended for young and curious readers.

5 out of 5 stars Great for deciding on a cruise line or ship.......2006-06-07

If you have never cruised, this book is an excellent introduction for what to expect from a cruise, shore excursions, incidentals, travel insurance. Brown and Golden go in depth in comparing the different cruise lines and ships. The information presented is very up to date.

I bought this book primarily for port information, therefore the individual cruise ship information, however detailed, was of no use to me because I already booked my cruise. If you are in the process of deciding on a cruise line this book is very helpful.

The port information is excellent, it's provided as a very easy read. Frommer's gives the current admission prices for attractions and also gives excellent tips on specific excursions as well as contact numbers. The information here is better than anything of I found online.

Highly recommend with Anne Vipond's Alaska by Cruise Ship.

3 out of 5 stars Alaska Cruises & Ports of Call 2006.......2006-04-29

This book has its strengths and weaknesses. If you are very early in the planning stages of an Alaskan Cruise this is a great book to help you select which cruise line and ship you should select. It is the strongest of the books I reviewed in describing the strengths and weaknesses of the various cruise ships. In fact over ? of the book deals with ships not the actual trip. There are shorts sections on the various ports of call. There is not a lot of depth to really get you excited about what you might want to do. Most ports have about four pages that offer walking tours, best cruise line excursions, local operator excursions and shopping.

            Book Description

A cruise is a complete vacation, so it's important that you choose the one that's right for you. Frommer's Cruises & Ports of Call is the most user-friendly, opinionated, and comprehensive guide you can buy before you set sail. We provide in-depth coverage on cruises departing from U.S. ports to the Caribbean, Alaska, Bermuda, Mexico and Canada.

Unlike rating systems used in other guides, our system is simple. We break down the essential elements of a cruise experience (dining, activities, children's activities, entertainment, service, overall enjoyment, and overall value), and rate them from "poor" to "outstanding." Photos of each ship combine with the text to give a better sense of the very real differences among the various lines.

Most important, this is the only cruise guide that provides the real prices people pay for cruises, not just the rack rates. Other guides tell you that a seven-night cruise aboard Royal Caribbean's Brilliance of the Seas costs $2,099. You can pay that if you want to, but only Frommer's tells you that the same cruise is selling for $649. We give both the rack rates and the discount price for every cruise we review. This feature alone makes Frommer's Cruises and Ports of Call by far the most valuable trip-planning book among cruise guides.

Our authors, noted cruise experts who've personally checked out every ship sailing in and around North America, offer candid and unbiased opinions on them all. They are completely up to date, with all the latest developments and the newest ships. You'll also get complete coverage of the major port destinations, with advice on how to spend your limited time ashore.

            Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Frommer Has a Winner Here.......2005-12-24

I hate most of the Frommer Travel books. They take the fun out of travel and have very few photos.

This book is different. Here they came up with something very useful and novel for the traveller. When you go on a cruise normally you do not have a clue. You just follow what your travel agent recommmends. But anyone that has taken an extended cruise or two knows there are big differences betweeen boat lines and routes etc.( I like Holland America myself). So here is a nice review of what boats and crusies are available, it describes the boats, and where they go and what you can expect including on board entertainment. All great stuff.

Highly recommend 4 or 5 stars. Buy before you talk to the travel agent.
