Great Detail on Two Fascinating Regions.......2005-04-17
This book has valuable information on various aspects of these 2 regions, and is among the best in the series.
I personally found the fauna checklists, detailed island by island, particularly interesting and hard to find elsewhere.
Another rare summary is that of the region's existing and proposed nature reserves, providing information on the unique features, legal status and threats to each one.

Book on the Best of the Best in Basketball.......2006-01-11
If you are an avid professional basketball fan like me who appreciates the history of the game, you should know that there are so many captivating memories surviving to this day. This book focuses on the more prominent players and plays of the NBA's past and present; the buzzerbeaters that have won championships, the slam dunks that defied gravity, the amazing assists that made you wonder if he could see through his head. All these memories come alive again in NBA's Greatest. From James Naismith's invention of basketball to George Mikan, Bill Russell,'Houdini of the Hardwood' Bob Cousy and the early dominance of the Minneapolis Lakers and Boston Celtics, to the era of great swingman such as Dr. J, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird, to the continuity of today's superstars, this book has them all.
There are some feats in professional basketball that you simply never forget, such as Jerry West's last minute heave from sixty feet out, or Willis Reed's comeback in the 1970 NBA Finals, or when Michael Jordan executed a flying dunk from the free-throw line, or when Anthony 'Spud' Webb won the slam dunk contest standing at 5'7". This book reviews those highlights in great detail, plus extra statistics that summarize the changes that have taken place over a century.
Certainly the NBA's Greatest.......2005-06-26
An awesome basketball book. I just love it. Informs one about the best players ever in the NBA, from guys like Cousy, to Wilt, Jordan, to Ewing, and Duncan to Kidd. Also, shows the best NBA duels from Bird vs. Magic, to Iverson vs. Carter. Don't forget about the best teams ever assembled in the NBA like the 95'-96' Chicago Bulls. Then, read about the best guys to ever lead their team to glory . . . the coaches. Daly, Jackson, Auerbach, Wilekns, Riley . . . you can find them all here. And finally, catch up on the best momenets ever. Remember "Havlicek stole the ball" and the year Oscar Robertson AVERAGED a triple-double. Well, there all here in this book.
Definitely a book that all basketball lovers should own.

THE BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-02-14
THE BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NBA's Greatest
by John Havlicek
This book is about the greatest NBA players of all time. It is also about the greatest games. Also it tells about the best teams in the league.
I think an interesting part is when Scotty Pippen told about Dirk Nowitski. Here are some words he said, `' He's definitely shown me a different dimension in the power forward game,'' said Pippen.''He's probably the only power forward that I've seen that can do the things he does being a 7 footer.''
I think that people who like basketball would like to read this book. Also if someone just wants to read about certain players in basketball , and he's a legend, this would be the book for them. Finally if you want to find out about the greatest moments in basketball look at this book.
I would give this book a 10 out of 10 because it is a good book to read. If you want to learn about the NBA's Greatest check here.

this book drains a trey.......2007-04-04
The book I read called Michael Jordan's 50 Greatest Games is about MJ's best games that he plauyed. The book is meduim sized and is easy to read. In the book you will learn about MJ from his college years at North Carolina to the NBA on the Bulls team. Each game they rate. They rate tthe games by scoring, game importance, oppnent strength, historical significance, pressure points, defense, MJ's phyisical condition, and long odds. I really liked this book. I recomened this book for peopoe who like MJ and baskeball.
both sides.......2000-04-23
I have mixed feelings about Michael Jordan. On the one hand, he is a great athlete. I respect his work ethic. He has turned in a number of great performances and is no doubt one of the greatest to have ever played the game of basketball.
There is a flipside. Michael Jordan got all kinds of special treatment while he was in the NBA. He was the first player I noticed who was granted all kinds of trips to the charity stripe because of unbelievably, ticky tack calls. He scored at least ten points a game at the free throw line from bogus calls. It was great when there was a picture session for 'greats of the game' with Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan. Magic told Larry not to stand too close to Michael or they might call a foul. In front of reporters and television viewers, that was a classic comment by Magic. I believe Mike got 99% of all calls in his favor because he was such a cash cow for the NBA. Dominique Wilkins was robbed of a slam dunk championship when Mike scored a perfect 50 doing the same dunk Dr. J did years before. I doubt Dr. J ever received a perfect 50 for it. Dominique's dunk was much more impressive, and he received a 49.5. Please. Mike got in a fight with Reggie Miller, and only Miller got suspended at first. Only after there was an outcry did Mike get suspended. How are Mike's punches different? Mike elbowed Kevin Johnson to the ground for all to see, and Kevin was called for blocking!
I am not too impressed that the bulls beat the lakers in the NBA finals. Magic was double teamed every game every minute he was in. On top of that, James Worthy and Byron Scott were injured. Magic and Larry never won three championships in a row because the competition, teams, and players in the 80s were much better than the nineties. Luc Longley, Will Perdue, Bill Cartwright, or Bill Wennington stopping Kareem? Ha!
Sport Magazine recently had a piece on the ten greatest moments and ten greatest players ever in the NBA. Mike was ranked number one all time player. Kudos to Mike for mentioning in 'For the love of the game' that to pick a "greatest ever" is impossible because of all the different eras and evolutions of basketball. The nineties bulls were given three of the ten greatest moments in NBA history. This is just more Mike bias. Give me a break. There are hundreds of classic and amazing moments in NBA history. One of the moments picked was Mike beating the Jazz in the final minutes of his last game. He put his hand on Bryon Russel's backside and shoved him out of the way. Then Mike made the game winnig shot. All eyes were on Mike, but the ref did not make the obvious call.
There is also Mike's arrogance. According to him, Wilt Chamberlain was a fluke eventhough Wilt was a great all around player. He made a comment about Magic and Larry reaching a 'certain level of greatness' and that the two were not good on defense. What? Are we talking about the same Larry Bird? Shaquille Oneal is also much better and much improved than Mike gives him credit for. Shaq has turned into a solid defender, passer, and he works hard at both ends of the floor.
Mike's corporate poster boy behavior is laughable. He did ads for AT&T and then MCI. The Wayans family is also split between the two companies. Mike talked about the enviroment in Rayovac ads and then pitches hot dogs? Mike is not the only athlete who will pitch anything and everything to make millions. I wonder if Mike has checked into Nike's labor practices.
Players like Mike and Charles Barkley soured me on the NBA. Charles played like a thug and got away with it because he was a star. Plus, Charles insisted on wearing number 34 at Philadelphia eventhough it was retired for NBA great Billy Cunningham. The star treatment and inflated egos has grown old, and that has turned a lot of people off to sports. I miss the Lakers and Celtics match ups of the 1980s.
this is a great book for basketball fans.......1999-03-20
there are all sorts of neat features in this book. What I especially liked were the box scores, where you can see Jordan's changing cast and how it evolved. I don't agree with every ranking, but he's got good reasons for his choices. There's even a practice listed, which I thought was really interesting.
The author steps up and drains a trey!.......1999-01-20
Everybody has a favorite Michael story; it was a smart move for this writer to hash out an objective way--a formula that makes sense-- to rate stellar MJ performances on the court. In the same way that video stores carry Roger Ebert's movie/video book at the checkout counter, sports bars should stock Condor's book--right behind the Jagermeister and shot glasses--to settle countless Jordan debates that are sure to rage in years to come....
Bob Condor picks em..........1998-12-06
Condor has some interesting choices...and he has a formula behind his picks... from his number 1 choice, to his 50th...we see a man depecting another man...and both of them know their game...although...i think the third game of the final series with the lakers should have been in there somewhere...but, thats just me

Author Is More Than A Bit Delusional.......2006-12-11
The 1966-67 Philadelphia 76ers would have smashed the 1985-86 Celtics' team into the hardwood. Robert Parrish and Kevin McHale would have been rendered helpless in the paint against 7-1, 300 lbs Wilt Chamberlain and the 6-10, 275 lbs Luke Jackson, two of the strongest players in NBA history. Between them they averaged close to 40 rebounds per game----that's more than the per game average of the entire 1985-86 Celtic team. The sensational Bird would be his usual handful, but that would not be nearly enough to compensate for the 76ers' incredible array of talent. Beyond Wilt's 25 ppg, 25 rpg, and 8 apg, and Luke's tenacious rebounding, intimidation, and defense in the paint, the Celtics would also have to contend with three other 20 points per game scorers, Hal Greer, Billy Cunningham, and Chet Walker. The 76ers could run you off the court, break your bones under the basket, or simply shoot the lights out from the corners and top of the key. I'm not sure if Mr. May actually believes his hyperpole or he is simply trying to sell his book. Either way, the term "the greatest" is very elastic; but since the author took it upon himself to write in absolutes, I'll respond by stating that the 1966-67 76ers would have absolutely destroyed the 1985-86 Celtics. Put that in your green beer and drink it.
The reason this book was written...........2006-06-27
is to counteract the plethora of IDIOTIC opinions such as the last one that have no sense of historical context. Notice how the last reviewer's greatest list consisted of teams of the past decade (which by all accounts and standards consists of watered-down teams and play) and the 1986-87 Lakers (which btw wasn't even the best Laker team of all time in terms of record or strength of competition) while "he" called the Celtics teams from 1957-1969 who won 11 out of 13 years "OVERRATED". What's next? Titanic is the greatest movie of all time? Leonardo DiCaprio is the greatest actor? Justin Timberlake is the best singer?
Although I am a Celtics fan, esp. of the incredible 1985-86 team which I do think is the best for many of the same reasons as stated in the book, I can objectively state that really only four teams deserve to be in the discussion as the greatest single season team: the 1967 Sixers, the 1983 Sixers, the 1986 Celtics, and the 1972 Lakers. The books that chronicle these other teams also make good points too. This book does a reasonable job of showing why these 1985-86 Celtics should be there. In addition, this book gives a great chronicle of the entire 1985-86 season.
One more opinion that I would state is that at any given time, the 1986 Celtics could put on the court FOUR of the NBA's Top 50 (and s/b 5 because Dennis Johnson was certainly worthy of being in the list). The only other team who could even possibly boast this would be those "overrated" Celtics teams from the 1950s and 1960s.
BTW, if this opinion seems far-fetched, note that on a recent ESPN poll show, this 1985-86 Celtics team was ranked third of teams of all time and the number 1 team on that poll, the 1996 Bulls, was deservedly ridiculed by the second-guessers. The number 2 team, the 1972 Lakers, is too tough to argue against. There are also many articles on the web that state why the previous reviewer's argument is greatly flawed.
Another note, the past reviewer was right about three things, 1) the 1985-86 Celtics team was the best Celtics team of all time (which is obvious given that it is in the top 5 of greatest teams of all time), 2) yes you can see the old games on DVD, the old games show just how incredibly talented and in sync the 1986 Cs were, and 3) the 1986 Rockets were that good, so good that they beat a team that was quite similar to the 1987 Lakers in 5 games. However, when you lose by double digits in 3 games to the Cs, bad calls will almost never explain that. But believe this, if the 1986 Celtics could handle both Ralph Sampson and Hakeem Olajuwon, they can certainly deal with Shaq plus whatever scrub big man was next to him and they certainly would've obliterated the 1987 Lakers if the Cs were at full strength (even at half strength the Cs pulled off two victories against a Laker team that on paper should've swept them and this was after the Cs playing two consecutive seven game series with one of them being the eventual champion Detroit Pistons).
THE BEST BOSTON CELTICS TEAM EVER, NOT THE BEST EVER!.......2006-05-23
Peter May is right about one thing, the 1985-86 Boston Celtics championship team was special:with Bill Walton added to the team that lost in 6 games to the 1984-85 NBA Champion LA Lakers, the Bird-Walton combination was devestating, and the 67-15 regualar season record and 15-3 in the playoffs proved it. And May's right about something else, too, that Bird and Walton had a special chemistry, something never seen before or since between two NBA big men, a unique ability to know what play the other player wanted, and when!
But the problem with this book is its claim that this was the BEST TEAM EVER, and with today's access to dvds of old games, all you have to do is look at the 1986 first round playoff series against Chicago to see the Celtics' weaknesses. Yes, they beat the Bulls in 3 straight games--the first round series were best-of-five then--but the legendary GAME TWO was a matchup against a younger, quicker Chicago team that with a healthy Jawann Oldham in the lineup might have toppled the Celtics. As it is, they came very close in the Game Two, the famous game where Michael Jordan scored 63 points in double overtime.
And other teams that were better? Even the team the Celtics beat to win the 1986 Championship, the Houston Rockets, who on video in Games 1 and 2 were the recipients of some terrible hometown Boston calls by referees. With Lewis Lloyd and Robert Reid in the backcourt, and Jim Petersen, Ralph Sampson and Akeem Olajuwan up front, the Rockets weren't just faster, they were bigger, too! If the Rockets had gotten the calls in Games 1 and 2, the series might have ended differently. And the 1987 Lakers team ran the Celtics off the court, and even though, yes, there was no healthy Bill Walton or Kevin McHale, who did the Celtics have to stop Magic Johnson at his peak??? Heck, they couldn't even stop Byron Scott!
And of course, there's the Jordan-Pippen-Rodman Bulls, about whom former Celtic Dennis Johnson himself was once quoted as saying, "I know we could have stayed competitive with them, but could we have beaten them...I just don't know..."
And then there's the Shaquille O'Neal-Kobe Bryant-Coach Phil Jackson LA Lakers, probably the REAL BEST TEAM EVER, with ULTIMATE CENTER SHAQ, and THE BEST BOSTON TEAM EVER would be lucky to last 5 games against them! Who would have guarded Shaq? And Danny Ainge or DJ against Kobe Bryant??? Forget it!
And another team in the running for BEST TEAM EVER never even made the Finals, the 1999-2000 Portland Trailblazers, with Arvydas Sabonis--an even bigger and stronger version of Bill Walton--at center--Rasheed Wallace at his peak at power forward, Scottie Pippen at small forward, and guys like Detlef Schrempf, Stacey Augmon, and Jermaine O'Neal on the bench, and only bad coaching by Mike Dunleavy cost them the title!
The 1985-86 Boston Celtics team was THE BEST BOSTON CELTICS TEAM EVER, because Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, Bill Walton, Dennis Johson, and Danny Ainge would have destroyed the former Celtic championship teams like the John Havlicek-Dave Cowens-Paul Silas 1970s champions, or even the many overrated Bill Russell winners of the 1960s and 1950s, but there were a lot of other teams that were better, and I haven't even gotten to the 76ers yet! The 1985-86 Boston Celtics was the BEST BOSTON CELTICS TEAM EVER, and that's all!
When the NBA Was the NBA.......2004-06-06
This book chronicles the 1985-86 Celtics--a team that the author thinks would beat any team before or since in the NBA. I agree with him--it's nauseating to hear people say with a straight face that the champions of today's expansion-diluted era could beat Bird, McHale, D.J., Ainge, and The Chief.
If you pine for the days when the NBA was filled with teams that could score in triple digits and when the NBA Finals was an event that you looked forward to with relish every year, read this book.
WELL WRITTEN.......2001-05-28
THIS IS A VERY SIMPLE AND DOWN TO EARTH BOOK. I REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK. IT DOES A GOOD JOB GOING THROUGH THIS EXCITING SEASON WITH THE CELTICS LAST CHAMPIONSHIP. IT DOESN'T WASTE TIME AND STAYS ON TARGET ALL THE WAY. A GOOD INSIGHT ON MANY OF THE PLAYERS. ALSO A GOOD BEHIND THE SCENES LOOK AT HOW SOME TRADES WERE MADE. ABOVE ALL I ENJOYED HOW EACH MEMBER WAS BROUGHT TO THE TEAM AND HOW EACH CONTRIBUTED TO THE ULTIMATE GOAL. A VERY GOOD READ. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
