Book Description
This all-new edition includes descriptions of the habits, habitats, tracks, signs, and ranges of all the mammals of North America, as well as of selected birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects. More than one thousand line drawings show individual tracks, track patterns, droppings, and gnawed trees. One hundred color photographs further enhance the text. The authors use an anecdotal approach, and the text is filled with inspirational stories, wonderful natural history, and relevant information about the tracks and signs of North American animals.
Customer Reviews:
Too much information.......2007-09-17
I purchased this book in hopes of making quick identifications of unknown tracks in the field. Although the book is very thorough, there is no way to sort out the information quickly. It requires too much time to find the track descriptions and sort through all the similar tracks to really be of any practical field use for me.
Thorough.......2007-01-16
Very thorough. Easy to use. Great detail. We do wish it was hard covered and or a better binding. Concerned that the binding will give in time as it is a book for the outdoors to use comparing tracks to itself.
Book Description
Includes descriptions of the habits, habitats, tracks, signs, and ranges of all the mammals of North America. More than 1,000 illustrations show individual tracks, different track patterns, animals in their habitats, droppings, and gnawed trees - every type of clue the tracker needs.

Best Field Guide.......2007-01-18
If you own only one animal track field guide - own this one.
Excellent field guide.......2005-09-13
This is what a field guide should be, clear, concise, and easy to use. My wife who is just starting to tune in to nature loves it. She was up to speed in 10 minutes and loving it from then on.
A must-have tracking classic.......2004-03-10
When I was a kid running a trapline in northern Michigan, this was the book I carried in my rucksack. Today, more than 35 years later, I've written 2 books of my own on the subject of tracking wildlife, but this book is still on my bookshelf. Olas Murie was a true American pioneer who led the way into an area where no one else had gone before him. He established the first standards, and while modern genetic and other scientific techniques have increased our knowledge of wildlife manifold over what was known in Murie's day, it was he who laid the foundation on which the rest of us build. This book is a must-have for every tracker's library.
Good and comprehensive guide, a little difficult.......2002-01-15
It is a good and comprehensive guide, it has a lot of animal tracks, I found it a good and complete guide, but honestly sometimes I had a lot of difficult tryng to find some kind of tracks that I found.
In my personal opinion I think that this is a very good book for experts on the field but not so good for beginners in animal tracks. And by the way it doesnt have any color illustration, and altough they are not needed I was very familiar with peterson guides and this one is a little different.
A very useful guide.......2001-10-26
My wife and I have found this guide to be very useful in interpreting the sign left behind by the creatures resident in our northeastern woods, not only tracks but scat as well (with hundreds of detailed drawings of scat it is as much a guide to those leavings as tracks). The extensive behavioral descriptions are equally useful. I am not clear on the basis for the criticisms contained in the other review concerning animal harassment. Dr. Murie was a dedicated conservationist and President of The Wilderness Society after his retirement from the Fish and Wildlife Service and his respect for the creatures he is describing is evident on every page. While he acknowledges that some tracks were obtained from live-trapped animals, it is clear from the book that the overwhelming mass of the data is from direct field observation from a life spent in the outdoors.
Book Description
ew animals elicit the same mythical terror as sharks, and yet we know little about these elusive, ancient creatures. Internationally renowned shark researcher John A. Musick and science writer Beverly McMillan bring us along on a thrilling adventure as they track sharks from fossil quarries in Bear Gulch, Montana, to a nurse shark mating lagoon in the Dry Tortugas. By way of Alaska, Japan, the Bimini islands, and the world's leading shark-research labs, we discover how sharks navigate using electromagnetic signals, have a bloodhound's sense of smell, are both cold- and warm-blooded, and possess biochemical weapons that someday might help us fend off tumors and microbes. Excavating the secret lives of sharks from the dark recesses of the oceans, this captivating scientific exploration challenges us to rethink our relationship with sharks, leaving us with the question: Are humans the prey, or the predator?
Customer Reviews:
Fascinating Look into the World of the Shark.......2003-04-22
The tales of a shark researcher and his colleagues and friends serve as the vehicle for instructing the reader on the fascinating world of the Shark. This narrative trick works in this book much better than I had anticipated, since the vignettes presented quickly depart from the story of the researchers involved and delve into the secrets of the shark they uncovered instead. And the secrets are fascinating. Shark fossils, shark senses, shark sex, shark behavior, shark attack (of course), threats to sharks and surprising data on shark intelligence are all presented in a book that breezes by too quickly. Well worth the price of admission!

Book Description
Track of the Grizzly is the culmination of one of the most ambitious wildlife studies ever undertaken - the Craighead field study of the grizzly bear, carried out in Yellowstone National Park and the huge ecosystem, spanning three states, in which it lies. Over a period of thirteen years, beginning in 1959, Frank Craighead, his brother John, and their colleagues used sophisticated scientific techniques to track hundreds of grizzlies, to discover the bears' social organization and seasonal movements, their breeding and feeding habits, and their life spans. This fascinating book illuminates the shortcomings of America's current system of wildlife management and provides an intimate, detailed, and definitive portrait of the greatest carnivore in our hemisphere.

Track of the Grizzly.......2006-11-11
A very readable, enjoyable book. It was published in 1979 so I'm sure there's more and newer information on the bears, but this is a great starting place. It's author (and his brother) are famous for their early grizzly studies.
Track of the Grizzly.......2003-06-30
A shortened and less scientific version of the Craighead's classic study of the Yellowstone grizzlies. For any one who wants to know more about grizzlies, this book is a must!!!!
The REAL story of Grizzly Bears.......2000-08-15
A very well written and entertaining book about the Criaghead's multi year study of the Grizzly Bears of the Yellowstone Eco system. The book while written by a Biologist, is very entertaining and an easy (light) read....not a scientific paper.
If you want to understand what Grizzly Bears are REALLY like, and want to understand this interesting animal- this is your book.
It's a great book to read if you visit the Yellowstone area and are somewhat "Bear-a-phobic" as a result of the sensational bear attack books. I was reading this book in Yellowstone this summer when I had my 1st bear incident in the 15 years I have been coming to the park. Armed with good information the "incident" became an interesting encounter with another one of YNP's great animals.
This is a book worth buying and keeping in your library.

First Choice for ease of use and good sketches.......2001-02-16
Begins with an intro which covers generalizations about tracking animals in snow, and even covers how to preserve tracks made in snow. Pencil drawings provide clear detail and pix of the animal as well as its tracks. Range maps included (book covers USA. A good balance between adequate coverage and so much info that you become overwhelmed. This is good for beginner to intermediate trackers. Book is focused on mammals. Only one spread on birds. This book is standard gear on my winter hikes.

Must Read for All Christian Parents.......2007-10-13
I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 9 month old. The wisdom in this book is as applicable for them now as it will be as they continue into school age. I think this book is a must read. It gets to the heart of not just training our kids to behave well, but training their hearts to be a follower of Jesus. This book was recommended to me by a friend and I am so grateful! I have read this book by myself and now my husband is reading it along with me so that we can both approach disciplining our children with the same type of love we experience from God. I totally endorse reading this book if you feel like your children's behavior is out of hand or if you would like to approach disciplining your children with God's love before their behavior becomes problematic.
Don't Make Me Count To Three.......2007-09-28
I loved "Shepherding A Child's Heart" by Tedd Tripp. After reading it however, I was left thinking, "That was awesome but where do I go from here?" Ginger Plowman's book goes hand in hand with Tedd Tripp's. She gives practical wisdom that is easy to apply and really helps in the "training" of your children. It also helped to point out bad habbits and areas of laziness in my own training.
Good resource for young parents who may not read much.......2007-09-06
A very biblical approach to effective parenting. This book echos the principles in Tedd Tripps book Shepherding a Child's Heart. It would be an excellent resource for a parent who desires to train their children according to the scriptures but may not have a lot of time to devote to reading parenting books.
Revolutionized our approach to our children!.......2007-08-21
To be honest, I never feel like I have enough time to look at parenting books. However, this one came so highly recommended by my sister-in-law that I decided to give it a try. It is very easy to read, not only because of the style of writing, but because I realized the message contained in the book was spot-on. I read the book (as did my husband) and felt convicted that I had not been approaching discipline in a way that would point my children to Jesus Christ. Instead, I too often got impatient and scolded my kids out of frustration.
As a result of reading this book, both my husband and I have asked God to teach us to be loving, firm, and gentle in dealing with discipline. Most importantly, though, we have been encouraged to use Scripture constantly when working with our children. This is why I say this book, although not containing brand new revelation, revolutionized how we discipline our kids.
I was so moved by this book that I bought four more copies to give to friends who are about to have new babies!
The Truth Huts.......2007-07-29
I've noticed some negative feedback on this book, which baffles me. I've read this book cover to cover, and I know that many of the "accusations" have been misquotes or out of context. Ginger Plowman was very careful to give very specific guidelines and reasons for spanking ... but somehow that gets distorted into "fundamental" hogwash. The truth is, Ginger is right on target with her Biblical views and albeit hard for some to want to see, it is the truth. God does exhort us to use spanking ... but ONLY within the guidelines set forth in Ginger's book. It's not a permit to abuse ... but to lovingly ... LOVINGLY ... correct, and to teach the basic principle that bad choices lead to consequences. However, Ginger never suggests anything other than Biblical, loving correction ... and any reviews that suggest otherwise are rediculous.
And, I have a feeling that some of the negative reviews are just "cut and pastes" from people surfing the internet to defame any attempts at Biblical accounts of discipline. They didn't really review this book ... they sentenced the author because of her stand. Truth is, sometimes the truth hurts.

Caillou learns to count to ten!
Book Description
In this book, two of America's leading sex and gender experts show readers how to make sex more enjoyable by breaking away from the repetitive mechanics of intercourse. The book describes a path toward more a varied, playful, and intimate sexuality, debunking myths such as "impotence," "frigidity," and "foreplay;" indeed, the book shatters the myth that intercourse equals sex itself.
"Let Me Count The Ways":
* defines "outercourse", shows why it is a valuable addition to peoples' sexual vocabulary, and explains how readers can maximize their comfort and pleasure with it.
* shows how individuals and couples can increase their body's erotic functioning, and increase sexual satisfaction;
* includes dozens of ideas and exercises--such as an "intercourse sabbatical"--which will help partners relax, take advantage of a wide range of enjoyable sexual activities, and communicate about their concerns; and
* discusses how to break free from sexual stereotypes of the media, medical profession, and psychological profession, and overcome the idea that intercourse is a "normal" and necessary part of every sexual encounter.
More than a self-help book, this is an innovative, practical, tested program that will change the way that readers look at their sexuality--forever.
Customer Reviews:
A new way of looking at sex.......1999-04-25
This book puts forth the bold idea that couples do not need to have intercourse to have sex, and then discusses how to have great sex without intercourse. The only downside to the book is that it's a little repetitive. It also is a good book for unmarried teens and young adults to read, because it shows them how to have positive sexual experiences without the risk of pregnancy or sexulally transmitted diseases.
Book Description
Baltimore Oriole shortstop Cal Ripken tells young readers how the road to success in any field is rarely traveled overnight. Ripken, who stands poised to break one of baseball's most sacred records--Lou Gehrig's 2,130 consecutive games played--shares his thoughts on how success is attained over time, through sustained, day-by-day efforts and victories. More than 50 color photos and illustrations.
Customer Reviews:
A great book for kids and Ripken fans.......2000-07-30
I read this through in the bookstore, and was pretty impressed. In almost a children's version of "The Only Way I Know," Cal uses examples throughout his childhood and his baseball career to demonstrate how determination pays off, and how good character counts. For example, Cal tells about how, as a boy, he used to cheat his friends and brothers in board games, because he wanted to win so badly. The events that result from his cheating genuinely teach him that "cheating only cheats yourself." Cal had long since stood as a symbol of the American work ethic, for his 2632 cinsecutive game streak, not to mention his good sportsmanship and genuine love for baseball. This book might be a little too long or difficult to read for younger children to tackle by themselves, but it's a great choice for any family in which Ripken's image plays a central part. Young baseball fans and older Ripken fans alike will find something to enjoy here.
terrific.......1997-12-10
This book is a great book.Anyone could read it.It tells about Cal Ripken Jr.'s life and he does a great job putting in in a smaller form.I read this book and now I want to read his other book. A simply great book.
Book Description
A fun-filled introduction to numbers and counting games. Babies will love looking at the pictures and hearing the objects counted. This delightful book will help very young children to develop early number skills.
Customer Reviews:
Eye-catching colors and format.......2004-04-30
This board book differs from other photo concept books in that it is a little larger than many, and it has simple, large, vibrant, colorful pictures. It is very eye-catching for my four-month-old twins, and they attend to it when they don't attend to other more "busy" photo concept books. I think they will continue to be interested in it as they get older too, when they can understand counting and labeling. Thus, I think it's a great book that can be used with very young babies just for visual interest, and for older babies and toddlers who are learning to label and count. We also have the Baby's World Baby Colors book which has the same format, and it also holds the same interest for my babies.

This book is phenomenal........1999-06-24
I bought this book at a yard sale, for my son when he was three. It made counting and number identification a breeze. He was able to understand the patterns and how numbers are repeated to make larger numbers. Before long he was reading the numbers in the grocery aisles, and counting up to and beyond 1000. I am now purchasing it for my daughter. This is a must have tool for young children.
