This excellent book goes into great detail about the many situations when fishing for walleye. It is especially good for beginners as it tells the big three, when where and how! The special situation section goes into weeds, rocks, timber, spawning and cold weather. Beautiful illustrations and pictures help explain likely sites to begin looking for fish.

A great book on trolling, with lots of information about downriggers. The author also covers the importance of boat speed, temperature, sonar, and more. You can learn much from the author on catching a wide range of species including striped bass, black bass, muskie, walleye, salmon, and trout. If you troll, or would like to learn about it, get this book.
Another excellent book on trolling is "Trolling Top to Bottom." These two books form an excellent foundation for anyone wanting to catch fish using this enjoyable and productive method. Once you get into trolling, you will also want a copy of "Precision Trolling," an encyclopedia of crankbaits that tells you how deep each bait will go given the length of line out. Tight lines!

This book is great and everything I need to know, and then some,regarding freshwater fishing.

Although it says it's a Complete Guide, I didn't find it so. There is a level of assumed knowledge. So if you're a beginner, like me, skip this book and find something more basic.
Specifically, it doesn't show how to thread a rod/reel; it doesn't show how to connect up sinkers, spinners, hooks, etc in the combinations you need for each type of fishing; and it doesn't describe how to do certain types of fishing -- it just names them and moves on.
It's also not specific enough for the region you live in. It's a wide overview of the types of Freshwater fish found in the US, but it doesn't break it down by region. Try to find a local guidebook for the types of fish in your specific area instead.

After searching the net and bookstores for months, I came across this book. It is THE best book on fishing you will find period. The pictures are amazing, but the information it provides is by far the best part. It tells you HOW to fish for every kind of freshwater fish there is. Trust me, you will love it.

The Complete Guide to Freshwater Fishing fits my bill very nicely. The book is divided into neat chapters on gear, rigging, and the common types of freshwater fish found in North American lakes and streams.
Each of the "fish chapters" (trout, bass, pike, etc.) has an impressive discourse on the fish itself, its habits, habitation, and how and where to best catch them.
The gear and tackle chapters teach all one needs to know about the different types of bait, lures, flies, knot-tying and other mechanics of the sport which are necessary if one is going to do more than catch sunnies with bread-balls.
Well written in short, clear prose, the book is fabulously illustrated with color pictures, charts, graphs, maps and other visuals which really explain both fish and fishing.
This is an excellent guide for both new and experienced fresh water fishers.

This book offers a great overview of the four most common types of freshwater catfish (channels, blues, flatheads, and bullheads) and the methods used to catch them. The author also covers the different bodies of water where catfish can be found, and different techniques for fishing these bodies of water. Sutton also goes into great detail about different catfish baits, tackle, and rigs. If you already know a lot about catfishing and want to learn more, this book isn't for you, however, if you want to learn the basics of several different methods of catfishing, I highly reccomend this book.

This book is the best on the subject. It contains a wealth of knowledge on all aspects of catfishing. "Fishing for Catfish" covers everything from catfish biology to every type of fishing method, gear, setups, etc. . The photographs and diagrams are exceptional. This book is a basic guide to the beginner in the field and anyone just thinking to set up own pond.
To my view the weak part of this book is that it is way too general to make final decission based on information in this book. It could have been going in each chapter into more detail, examples etc.
What makes it good for reading is wery good structure of chapters, which lets anyone starting to think about aquaculture to capture the full range of aquacultures available. There are many usefull tips ranging from what to choose, what to check, what to avoid prior taking the shovel in hand and here I found it inspiring and usefull.
Written in easy language I found it a fine, joy reading.

Fishing season may have ended up North but with this book, we can make it through the winter months. The photography is great
and it makes us feel like we are out there on the water, casting for the elusive big one! Ken Schultz seems to have landed another
