Book Description
This atlas of functional ultrastructure provides not only a detailed insight into the complex structure and organization of cells and tissues but also into specific functions fulfilled by the various cellular organelles and the dynamics of the different processes inside cells. The large collection of electron micrographs, together with those from immunoelectron microscopy, is complemented by thorough explanatory texts and schemes. Emphasis was placed on an integrated view of structure and function to show that subcellular organelles provide the structural foundation for fundamental processes of living organisms. Specialized cell types form the various tissues, and principles of tissue organization are presented. Under various conditions of disease, characteristic structural alterations may occur which are illustrated with examples thus providing a valuable source of information for scientists and students of Medicine and Biological Sciences, particularly of Histology, Cell and Molecular Biology.

Book Description
This step-by-step outline steers you logically, expertly, and clearly through biochemistry. It can save you study time and helps you get better grades because it focuses on the core information you really need to know—and avoids confusing, extraneous material that you don’t need! A question-and-answer format highlights the meaning of the material and helps you remember. Easy-to-read line drawings and diagrams make important structures and processes memorable. This new second edition features added sections on whole-body metabolism, enzyme kinetics, and new technologies for monitoring metabolic processes. Use this excellent study guide to help you ace your biochemistry course, study it alone as a complete biochemistry course, or use it for review before a standardized test—it can cut your study hours as it moves you quickly from cell structure through protein synthesis. This is the study guide that makes biochemistry comprehensible—the one whose first edition was chosen by 32,000 grateful students!
Customer Reviews:
Great in midterm examinations.......2006-11-11
For undergraduate courses related to biochemistry, Schaum's Outline of Biochemistry is a vital course supply material for quizzes, midterms and also finals. The book contains a wide range of topics including amino acids and proteins, and hundreds of examples at the end of every chapter.
For Timesavers not Great for Bookshelves........2003-05-23
For Timesavers not Great for Bookshelves.
I used this book quite infrequently because of the too short and simple contents. I rather refer to a complete text and shorten them by my own.
Futhermore, this book is not great for bookshelves. It's a paperback!
Great Study Guide.......1999-12-15
I used this book while pursuing my B.S. in Biochemistry and it is the best study guide I ever used. It covers all of the primary topics in undergraduate biochemistry and gives pertinent examples without extraneous information. I highly recommend it as a study aid, especially for standardized tests.

In Search of Memory: The Emergence of a New Science of Mind
ASIN: 0195065719 |
Book Description
This book represents the most complete and authoritative description on the fine structure of the nervous system available in a single volume. Beginning with background material on the neuron, the book then examines specific portions of the nerve cell, and of the various supporting cells. Structure is first described in a general fashion, followed by detailed coverage of the fine structure of each component, with full discussion of how the structural features relate to their functions. Extensively revised and rewritten, this book will bring readers up to date with the many important developments that have taken place since publication of the previous edition. It includes over 130 electron micrographs and line drawings, many of which are new to this edition.

Must Have.......2007-02-03
For those of us who are visual learners, this book will easily find its way into your heart. The pictures are phenomenal, the descriptions simple, concise, and detailed. With an understanding of how things look, and a clear explanation on how things work you hit the jackpot! (Great for medical students!)
Excellent atlas of electron micrographs for histology.......2006-10-04
This book consists of ~200 electron micrographs comprehensively reviewing the structures most often seen in histology courses. Each plate is accompanied with a page-long explanation of the image, a brief overview of the histological subject, and an orientation diagram is presented in most places that one is needed. The micrographs are carefully chosen to illustrate points that might be lost in traditional light micrograph pictures. I find that many of the explanations are more clear and concise than those in standard histology texts. The biggest drawback is that the explanations of the letters used to call out key structures on the images are hard to spot while quickly reviewing the text. A short key on each page would be welcome. But this is a minor quibble. This book is a fantastic accompaniment to a 1st year histology text, especially as fewer and fewer of them seem to be including EM images at all these days. Get it if you like to see good, informative, real pictures.
Cell & Tissue Untrastrcuture - It is A Useful Textbook.......2006-09-08
This is a good text. I am a practicing organic and polymer chemist, and I had studied cell-&-molecular biology and histology formally between 1977 and 1984 during undergraduate and graduate training. Periodically I read a review article in cell biology to keep current. With the advent, of non-viral transport of genes and therapeutic agents, I needed a low cost review. The text by Professors Cross and Mecer did the job for me and it is a well marked text on my bookshelf.
Book Description
This timeless pocket atlas is the ideal visual companion to histology and cytology textbooks. First published in 1950 and translated into eight languages, Kuehnel's Pocket Atlas of Cytology, Histology and Microscopic Anatomy is a proven classic.
The fully revised and updated fourth edition contains 745 full-color illustrations - almost 200 more than were included in the third edition. Superb, high-quality microphotographs and pathologic stains are accompanied by legends, informative texts, and numerous cross-references.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Histology Resource.......2005-08-27
This book is a wonderful resource for a medical school histology course. It provides a large number of beautiful color photographs of all aspects of histology to provide familiarity of the subject. Also great for a quick review.

Ghadially does it again.......2000-06-14
Feroze Ghadially is the grandmaster of ultrastructural pathology both human and nonhuman. He has updated the first edition with pertinent clinical case correlations and provided a very complete overview for the practicing pathologist, pathology resident and fellows. This book will prove to be a must for preparing for the American Board of Pathology examination for pathology residents. The photographs are of exceptional high quality and illustrate each of the pathologic conditions well. Feroze, you did it again.....
Book Description
Replacing and superseding all other works in this area, Dr. Lucinda L. Veeck's An Atlas of Human Gametes and Conceptuses is the only book now in print that shows the typical and atypical morphology of human oocytes, sperm, and preembryos collected and cultured during the course of in vitro fertilization treatment. Brilliantly illustrated with hundreds of original photographs in color as well as black and white, the book also details and fully illustrates specific new reproductive technologies and provides the reader with both a glossary and a concise history of in vitro fertilization.

I wouldn't want to be without this book!

Good resource for getting outdoors.......2007-03-15
This book is a great tool to locate outdoor shelters available to the public. This is the new updated version which has the latest pricing info. and great comparison charts between locations. However, I think it could use more maps and directions. Also, the older version of this book gave much better photos to help you understand what really to expect at these locations.

Great Sauntering Tool!.......2000-06-17
How to Rent a Fire Lookout in the Pacific Northwest is a valuable tool for exploring the beautiful backcountry of the Northwest! Authors Tom Foley and Tish Steinfeld have given a great gift to those of us in search of outdoor adventure. As a seeker of Oregon Stories within the landscape, I am enjoying this book immensely. I will include it in preparation of future sauntering and discovery!
An Amazing Reference Tool for the Nature Lover!.......1999-05-15
Just astounding! I have stayed at three of the lookout featured in the book, and they are every bit as wonderful as the book illustrates. This book is a must for the nature lover. I'm not much of a hiker or skier, so fortunately this book tells you how difficult it is to reach each lookout. And most all the lookouts are a mere $25-$40 a night! My lookout trips have been the best vacations I've ever had. Please, please pick up this book if you plan to be in Oregon for any length of time and love great scenery...
