Invaluable!!!!.......2002-04-26
This book is a "must" for all Nutritionists dealing with aquatic species. It never leaves my side while working on formulations and reviewing pertinent data on nutrient requirements and nutritional management of various commercially important species.
Only bad comment is that it is 1993 and it is time for NRC to bring out a new edition. hint hint....

"Masters" of fish foods.......2002-09-29
If you're into aquarium fish, and I mean really, really into aquarium fish, this is probably the best book available about its subject. It's truly the classic in the field. Unfortunately, its demographic is rather small, being the people occupying that grey area between amatuers who are kind of interested in fishtanks and professional aquatic biologists, so it's out of print. Encyclopedia of Live Foods is an excellent read. Tons of information about breeding and using live fish foods. Spectacular.

Nutrient Requirements of Fish (Nutrient Requirements of Domestic Animals)
ASIN: 0412077019 |
Book Description
Aquaculture is now recognized as a viable and profitable enterprise worldwide. As aquaculture technology has evolved, the push toward higher yields and faster growth has involved the enhancement or replacement of natural foods with prepared diets. In many aquaculture operations today, feed accounts for more than one-half the variable operating cost. Therefore, knowledge of nutrition and practical feeding of fish is essential to successful aquaculture.
This book is not written exclusively for scientists but also for students, practicing nutritionists, and aquaculturists. It covers the known nutrient requirements and deficiency effects for different fishes, and digestion and metabolism of nutrients and energy. It discusses nutrient sources and preparation of practical and research feeds. It gives directions for conducting fish nutrition and feeding experiments. Feeding practices for salmonids, channel catfish, tilapias, shrimps and hybrid striped bass are presented.
Since the first edition of this book was printed, the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences has revised the nutrient requirements for fish. These revisions are in the present edition. Other additions to this revised edition are chapters on nutrition and fish health, and bioavailability of nutrients. Each original chapter has been meticulously revised and updated with new information. Aquaculture is a dynamic area and new technologies are being introduced continuously; therefore, some of the material discussed in this revised edition may become obsolete quickly. Nonetheless, the material presented has been thoughtfully selected and updated to make it of maximum use to persons whose interests range from general aquaculture to animal nutrition to feed manufacture.

Book Description
Aquaculture - the commercial farming of aquatic organisms in a controlled environment - requires formulated diets composed of various ingredients. This
Handbook aims for a better understanding of the food components that affect nutrition and feeding of cultured fishes and crustaceans. Proper utilisation of these foodstuffs can minimise environmental pollution and degradation.
An overview of the nutrition of aquatic animals precedes the discussion of each foodstuff. Traditional and non-traditional ingredients are considered in alphabetical order. To evaluate the value of each foodstuff, information is provided on its origin, economical significance, manufacture and processing followed by chemical, physiological and other properties. An important feature of the
Handbook is the discussion of the feeding value of each ingredient and recommendations for inclusion rates, legal aspects and precautions for their use. There are 52 chapters in which 144 individual ingredients are considered. Included for easier understanding of the text are 443 tables and 80 figures with approximately 1,500 references. The
Handbook is a guide for anyone interested in aquaculture.

Book Description
Find a small cruising sailboat and restore it to pristine condition on a budget that won't sink your budget
Small, trailererable cruising sailboats are more popular than ever as mooring spaces dwindle and marina dockage and winter storage costs soar. Fix It and Sail helps you discover boatloads of fun far less than a single ski weekend or golf club membership. Veteran sailor and journalist Brian Gilbert shows you how to select and inspect a boat, then restore it from keel to rigging.
Gilbert's clear, step-by-step instructions guide you through every phase of the restoration process from repairing keels, hulls, ports, and cabins to painting, wiring, and sealing. You'll learn how to evaluate, repair and replace hardware, upholstery, canvaswork, and more. Profusely illustrated appendices give you a vivid picture of the costs, tasks, and labor involved in an actual restoration project.
Customer Reviews:
Great Book!.......2007-05-15
I had just purchased a boat exactly like this and I was looking for info. A web group refrenced me to this and I found a pot of gold. The text is easy to read and understand with plenty of photos. It's sprinkled with humor as well as advice on how to avoid some paths followed by the author. I highly recommend this to any one restoring or refurbishing a small trailer sailor, the information is universally applicable. Fair winds and following seas!
A real help.......2007-05-13
My husband is in the process of restoring our 28' Irwin, and even with as much as he knows, he finds this book to be very helpful. He is a 'hands-on' learner, so there is something special about this book for him to be so interested in it. Money very well spent.
DETAILED, INTERESTING AND FUN HOW-TO BOOK!!.......2006-03-28
This book is not only an interesting read, but fun as well! The pictures detail everything from each step of refurbishing a sailboat, including what tools to use and how to use them. I just ordered 3 more copies and can't wait to give them to my boating enthusiastic friends! Whether your re-doing a sailboat or not, I would highly recommend this to anybody who's into boating.
weel done.......2006-03-21
I received a copy for Christmas and what a wonderful read. It gives you incite and advice and maybe the courage to try a restoration of your own
Easily Under Estimated But Not Under Done.......2006-03-13
Good Book! March 12, 2006
Mike in Seattle
The one thing wrong with this book is the blurb on the front cover. It should read "Everything You Really Need to Know..." But, the disservice is done to the author--not to readers. It is not possible to tell everything that everyone might need to know in order to do something. What this book does tell is what anyone who is even contemplating restoring a sailboat had better know. It is far more than an overview of the author's own project though, Rather than just hitting the highlites, it covers e-v-e-r-y important point to keep in mind for the project from beginning to end. I have worked with hand tools for more than forty years, and it still gave me some pointers!
There is one thing peculiar about the book. Women, can't seem to keep their hands off it. My wife and her girl friend both liked the book. As if that wasn't strange enough, I took the book with me to my doctors office, and ended up checked into the emergency ward. At one point, I woke up to find my nurse looking through the book. Well, I guess that might be helpful for a guy trying to talk his wife into such a project, but it seemed kind of odd. I asked, and apparently they simply like the way the guy thinks.
