HOW TO USE WEAPONS.......2003-04-19
Okay, now that you've secured a stick, knife, or gun to defend yourself against that goblin crawling through the downstairs window, what do you do now? The intent of this book is to instruct the typical ignorant civilian in the emergency use of weapons. As you probably are aware, an automatic pistol or pump shotgun is of no use to an individual who has no idea how to load or operate it -- this book will tell you how. This book will also tell you the best knives to choose from your kitchen, and show why it's a bad idea to attempt to stab someone with a flimsy blade designed to slice bread or filet a fish. Perhaps this may be shorter than previous volumes, but it does exactly what it was intended to do -- TEACH.

I have read the whole Black Medecine serious and thought that they were absolutly great. I enjoyed the first and the second volumes about the preasure points and the weapons at hand. I liked most of the third volume on low blows and different self defence techniques. Now this book is an exellent summary to all of them. I expected a book on how to kill someone, but instead Mashiro explains on how to use the weapons, techniques and preasure points to make your opponent submit with as little effort as posible. The techniques are effective and something that a none martial artist can use in a everyday life. They are simple and very usefull. I enjoyed the book and think it is a must in any self deffence library.

When I first buy the complete serie of Black Medicine (Volume I to IV), I thougt that I haven't make a good deal : it seemed to me that this books were to thin... Yes they are, in comparaison with other ones BUT : N. Mashiro write only the essential (in french we say no "blabla") This is why his books are so concentrate. This forth volume contains more ready-to-use informations than the other one. In my opinion, you can't judge this book if you only have read this one. "Black Medicine" is a complete serie of self-defense fighting studies. I had gread time in reading them. As fare as I am concerned, I would always use the Volume I and the Volume II as references books. If you want to discover what "Equalizer" is all about, then you should buy all the four volumes. You won't be disapointed. In my opinion, N. Mashiro is one of the best author in the field of martial arts / self-defense. It is very unlikely that he will write a fifth volume of "Black Medicine", but if he does, I would buy it immediately.
Useful, but less dense than the previous volumes.......1998-07-28
I quite liked BM4. If you've not read the previous volumes, I would highly recommend them. Especially volumes I and II of the Black Medicine series are a great help for any serious martial arts or self-defense student. As for volume 4: it is less densely packed than the previous volumes. While the amount of information you are getting for the price of the book is relatively less, it's still certainly worth the price. On the other hand, as the author explains in the introduction, "the information in this book is much more quickly put to use". This is true: where the previous volumes required more self-study, this one is basically a "How-to" manual to Mashiro's tricks of the trade.

So-so book, a bit outdated.......2007-01-10
I ordered this hoping that some basic questions would be answered, and many were, but this book is outdated. For example: Nowadays, the most common good quality car system uses a pair of component speakers, sometimes called "splits" plus a sub woofer. You wouldn't know it from reading this book though.
Tuning your system? Doesn't even mention how to do this.
Troubleshooting chapter? Nope.
This book is pretty much all there is out there, and it will help with understanding many important things, esp if you are a complete novice. But because it is outdated, you will come away with some ideas that are not longer valid or important in helping you put together a system. You will need to supplement what you read here with info from other places.
It is not a complete waste of your money, but if I were this author I would write a newer version, and pronto, and cover the sorts of issues people are bringing up on the car audio forums, where I have learned much more than what is given in this book. There is a real need for a good book on the subject.
The best car audio book I have purchased.......2006-05-11
This is the best book on car audio I have purchased or even read. I highly recommend it to anyone building a system or just replacing a head unit. It is well written, yes it does get rather detailed about things, but that is what I was looking for. Thanks Mr Yoder, Cliff "Cyclops" Bryant
No stars for auto audio.......2003-08-22
I would rate this book at 0 stars if I could, but 1 star is the minimum. Just think about the fact that this book has an infinite number of pages which narrate the history of car audio, the first amplifiers and how they worked, the first transistors,bla bla bla. - All of this without explaining some usefull information such as wire connections, amp channel manipulation, etc. I bought this book but I was very disappointed. I read a lot of books about auto audio, and I must say that this book is not usefull at all, especially to beginners. Dont repeat my mistake by buying this book.
Definitely worth its money... and more!.......2003-01-21
Believe me when I tell you I was a complete novice where auto audio is concerned. While I have setup several home systems, I have always got all of my cars' systems professionally installed, with the shop providing recommendations on what to buy, etc. I had no real understanding of amps, pre-amps, cross-vers, impedance, etc. I didn't even know what speaker specifications to look for.
Also, if anything at all went wrong with my system, I wouldn't have known where to start to diagnose the problem.
However, after reading this book, I can now say confidently (as I have proven by re-configuring my current setup) that I understand, not only the terms, but how everything fits together. I can now confidently (as I'm currently doing) shop around for my own components, without having to blindly accept what the dealer says.
I even now have the confidence to install the system myself, although for that professional finsh, I may not. At least I can specify exactly what I want and can understand and challenge the installer, if appropriate.
I very, very highly recommend this book. You will NOT be disappointed.
I found this book very introductory........2002-07-09
I'm new to car audio and this book doesn't teach me anything more than what I've learned from articles on howstuffworks.com, sounddomain.com etc. Besides, his overly use of not-so-funny jokes really drives me nuts (even the author admits his jokes are corny). I also picked up "The Car Stereo Cookbook", a book along the same line but a little bit more up-to-date and informative.

This is a well-written book, that is concise. It is recommended for somebody who wants to capture the major issues quickly (there is no major pages of text that the reader has to sift through to get to the goodies). Even though it is concise it has advanced material (some not available in any other adaptive filtering book).

An essential engineering reference.......2006-01-02
Since 1956, there has not been a pamphlet or book with so much useful and quickly accessable design knowledge per page as this volume. If a person is wanting to build vintage/retro style electronic equipment, or interface old gear with new, that person MUST have a few Tremaine volumes on the shelf. The current price of under $20 is a huge bargain that won't last. I ordered a hardcover with DJ to sit next to my tattered paperback. The standard for these books is "none available".

Book Description
Gabriel is on a mission to observe human adaptations to Equalizers, the visible and invisible disabilities that all humans have at some point in their lives. He is sent by the Council to grow up as a human with a major Equalizer, spina bifida. As Gabriel goes through surgeries, hospitalizations, and singing goofy songs to help him stay healthy, he learns how others handle his Equalizer. Gabriel's Advisors are very supportive. Landy is not. In fact, Landy takes a while to adjust to the new member of the family. Gabriel meets Ralph, Cheyenne, and Marco. They show him that Enhancers are the best way to overcome some of the difficulties associated with Downs' syndrome, cerebral palsy, and cancer. Gabriel discusses what he learns with the Council. They want to know more, but his human emotions are making it hard to continue.
