This is a great book with all kinds of images to examine and color. My grandson learned a lot using this book.

3 out of 5 stars Bought for a friend.......2007-07-18

My friend wanted these books so I added them to my order and thought I would take a look at them and decide then if they were something we would use in our homeschool nature study. They are basically coloring books with some general field guide information. I think they are nicely done but I prefer the real field guides and actual nature with my kids and their own sketch books. I think it's better for us to draw from our own experience, literally, and improve as we work at it and mature than just staying in the lines. You would need a regular field guide in order to get the coloring right anyway.

4 out of 5 stars Field Guide.......2006-09-06

The Guide was a gift for my wife. She enjoys sitting on our deck and observing the different wild life in our back property. She is enjoying the book immensely.

5 out of 5 stars Great field guide.......2005-09-13

I have bought many field guides and petersons are the easiest to use, my wife and kids love them and get plenty of use of them.

3 out of 5 stars Eh..........2005-07-28

This is a good guide to be used in conjunction with the Kays and Wilson guide (a much more recent and complete book). It has not been updated in quite some time, but the information should not be dismissed. It works, but should not be your only mammal field guide. You will be disappointed if it is.

1 out of 5 stars Better information on the internet..........2003-02-22

Most of this book is a listing of some whale watching companies with litte infomation of real value. Which ones are good? No information about that. But there is information if their boat serves food, which they almost all do. Plus this information is old. No good pictures and no quality information about whales. I was completely disappointed in this suppossed "5 star" book. Don't buy this book -- do searching on line instead.

5 out of 5 stars Ask not for whom the whale migrates...........2002-09-14

Thanks a lot. This book tells all the spots you may find me.
As a Humpback whale and elected leader of our pod I would like to say have a little decency and go stare at your own species for crying out loud. Don't we have enough stress in our lives wondering when the next one of us is going to get a harpoon stuck in his bladder? How would you like it if a bunch of us whales piled into a minivan and followed you and your family around? Gawking at you and your offspring as you stand in line for your happy meals or doing what ever your brutish species does. Doesn't sound like so much fun now does it?
Go fiddle with the banana slugs or mimes, nobody likes them anyway.

4 out of 5 stars Since Everyone is on a Team - Read this book.......2007-01-25

I read this book initially with a focus on Business Team Building. I found it it simple and straightforward. I learned about creating a code of honor for myself first, and then for my family and business. It also helped me look at what I can do to improve me, create my own code and commit to the follow through and believe the results will follow.

Simple strategies - hard work to implement - abundant rewards for the people involved in the process.

I read a bunch of the negative reviews for this book and felt for my small invesment of time and money the book was worth 10 x's what I invested.

If you are a coach, parent, or in a business this will give you a new view on team builing for long term success.

          1 out of 5 stars I don't recommend this book.......2007-01-04

I am a big fan of Robert Kiyosaky, but I didn't like this book at all, what is a pitty, since I liked the other book by Blair Singer, Salesdogs. I expected much more from it. The author had only one idea -- "create a code of honor for your team" and wrote a book around it. Honestly, I don't think this book has anything to add. I suggest reading The Servant, by James C. Hunter instead. This one is a really awesome book about leadership.

4 out of 5 stars Well written--but doesn't quite hit the nail on the head........2006-01-31

This is a very good book on the subject of finding the type of people to work for you. What it fails to do is to point out the specialty people required to get a business running and growing. That is what I expected, after reading the title. One thing that totally put me off as I read this book. The author spoke of owning a shipping business and having a time pressure to get a shipment loaded. All of the laborers pulled together as a team, working long hours and extra shifts without complaining or asking for overtime pay. Who made the lions share of the money? Not the ones who did the hard labor, but he as the owner. Compensation was something not mentioned in this book. I very much like the concept of a 'code of honor', in which this book was almost completely based. I am still not really sure, after reading this book, what the difference between a code of honor and a mission statement is. A couple of great books that also cover this concept very well are: On My Honor I Will, and The Lost Secret of Phenomenol Success. This kind of book makes you think about your values, and what you want from life. I recommend it. Just remember, it may not be what you expect.

1 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY THIS BOOK!! .......2005-07-05

I am an entrepreneur and wanted some inspiration, sadly I just found a lot of crap in this book. There's nothing I can apply, anyone can come up with a book better than this. just by reading the index you know this book was written by someone who has no idea about business. I'll write it for you:
chap.1 why do you need a code of honor?
2 who you sorround yourself with will determine your wealth and success
3 creating your code of honor
          4 what's your personal code
5 how to enforce the code to ensure championship play
          6 leadership that teaches other
7 the biggest impact of the code
8 ensuring account. loyalty and trust
9 standing in the heat with the code
conclusion it's your time to have a code

the book is full of phrases like: (please ask yourself if you need to buy a book to learn this:)
"nature whats you to go for it" pg 122
"when in doubt support each other" pg 115
"accountability is in the stats, no stats no results" pg 108
"the code is an awesome recruiting tool and qualifier"
"steps for creating a code: 1 create a code in a sane environment"
"sample code: 1 never abandon a teammate in need"

4 out of 5 stars Creating a Code of Honor.......2005-05-23

This book wasn't exactly what I was expecting. I was expecting a book on how to pick advisors like accountants, real estate brokerss, lawyers, etc. However this book was about creating a team that works according to a "code of honor" that is created by the team.

Essentially the code of honor is a set of rules that the team creates and lives by in order to maintain a high level of accountability and performance. The idea makes sense as teams and people and general need rules by which to live by. Author Blair Singer does a good job of organizing the information and presenting it in an easy to read fashion.

On the downside, I wish there were more examples in this book to illistrate the points he's makes. A list of rules would have been nice, or the lists of rules that some other companies have come up with.

However other than that, the book is well done. Anyone wanting to build a team or wanting to improve the accountability of their existing team should pick up this book. 4 out of 5 stars.

          3 out of 5 stars mixed feelings.......2005-08-17

As a newbie skater, this book offers some good general info and advice as most instructional books do.
My main complaint is that the pictures are not descriptive enough to follow a sequence and, let's face it, it's tough to show movement in book form anyway. However, the other issue is that the text is hard to follow as well, if you are trying to learn about a new move. Naturally the text and the pictures make more sense when you already know the move and want to improve on it.
So, depending on your ice-skating skill level, your ability to decifer instructions and your imagination, you might say this book is skating on thin ice.

4 out of 5 stars This was one of the better skating books..........2004-01-18

This book has wonderful descriptions about just about everything in skating, except for take off technique. I dont understand why the author goes into extreme detail explaining how to do a three turn before a flip, but barley mentions how to take off into the actual jump.(This has been the case with just about every skating book I have read) Also the pictures are in black and white. The book has some very helpful tips and I think it is worth reading I just wish he would explain take off in a lot more detail.

          4 out of 5 stars "Excellent Instruction".......2002-06-03

This book is excellent for both beginners learning basic figure skating techniques and more advanced skaters who want to improve their overall ability on the ice. It includes helpful advice on improving your technical ability and provides possible mistakes that may slow your progress, so you can treat this book as a sort of "coach". It also includes pictoral descriptions for executing many of the moves, which I found very helpful. However, one downside is that this book was written in 1988 so it is a little old fashioned (there's mention of compulsory figures, which have since been eliminated from competition). However, it still contains all you need to know to improve your skating and I would highly recommend this book as one of the best I have read for skating instruction for both beginners and advanced skaters alike.

5 out of 5 stars If you're a skater this is for you!.......2002-04-09

This book is THE BEST! it's got everything you need to know about the jumps spins and techniques of this sport! READ IT AND YOU'LL WANT TO KEEP IT WITHIN REACH FOREVER (if you're a skater) haha no really, it's great! BUY IT!

          5 out of 5 stars A life-long manual freestyle skate.......1998-08-03

This book by Misha gives the very comprehensive description to the basic spins and back spins, jumps from single rotation to multi rotational, and of course the fundamentals of skating, ie edges and stroking. The wonderful thing about this book is that Misha provided the possible faults to the failure of execution of a particular move. So one may treat this book as a 'coach'. I personally liked the illustration of the sketches of the tracing on ice and the precision that is shown by Brian Boitano featured for the jumps and spins. You get to watch a few frames of a quadruple toe loop too A must buy for any freestyle skater in advance technique. Truly a treasure of a life-time.

I've used Sue Gozanky's book as part of the drill library for our high school program for over 5 years, and I heartily recommend it to all coaches, at any level of play.

There are drills covering every skill, for individuals and for teams, with lots of diagrams to help players improve whatever phase of the game they need to work on.

Sue's book is easy to understand and implement, and it's been one of my most-thumbed books ever since I first acquired it. I recommend it highly.

            Book Description

Jack Nicklaus set a record for most career victories in major championships, capturing a total of eighteen between 1962 and 1986, including six Masters wins. In 1988 Golf Magazine named the "Golden Bear" Golfer of the Century, recognizing his exceptional swing and shot-making game, his strength as a golf ambassador, and his contributions to the game, including ushering in power-hitting.

In The Nicklaus Way, acclaimed golf writer John Andrisani analyzes how Nicklaus created such a powerful swing and developed near perfect shot selection. Andrisani also reveals the secrets to Nicklaus's mental and course-management games, and shows golfers how to prepare thoroughly for a round of golf -- Nicklaus style.

What makes this book unique is that Andrisani goes far beyond the fundamentals of the setup and swing that Nicklaus learned from teacher Jack Grout and that enabled him to win so many major championships. Taking the instructional analysis process to the next level, Andrisani identifies for the first time subtle technical points of Nicklaus's swing that are not talked about in any of his instructional books or videos, as well as some new swing fundamentals Nicklaus learned from other top teachers such as Rick Smith.

In The Nicklaus Way, Andrisani also looks at Nicklaus's tee-to-green game, sharing with golfers the ins and outs of this great golfer's uncanny shot-making game. The instruction is easy to follow, so golfers will have no excuse for not being able to hit everything from a power fade drive to a biting short iron to a long putt.

              Book Description

If the process of buying and selling makes the world go round, then why does it have such a lousy reputation? Customers are wary of those who come selling, and salespeople have become embarrassed by their roles. Reversing this trend means adopting a new mindset, different processes, and fresh disciplines. In Championship Selling, three of North America’s most respected sales leaders offer a powerful, yet remarkably simple, vision of what it means to sell, as well as innovative techniques and tools for establishing mutually productive relationships with customers.

Most selling today is the same as it has always been — transactional. That is, the salesperson tries everything to get a foot in the door, follow their own agenda, close the deal and move on. However, transformational selling focuses on listening to, and working with, the customer to build enduring relationships that are valuable to both parties, and last far beyond the first transaction. Championship Selling portrays sales as a complex, vital, ongoing process, and outlines techniques and exercises to help salespeople, and their companies, evolve from a transactional mentality to a transformational one, for better long-term results.

              Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A call to sales action & change .......2006-03-18

Three of North America's most respected sales leaders present a call to action urging companies and salespeople to change behaviors to keep up with a modern competitive business environment: this call isn't unusual; but what is unusual is its result: CHAMPIONSHIP SELLING; A BLUEPRINT FOR WINNING WITH TODAY'S CONSUMER. The book emphasizes that business building strategies need to be at the top of the drive for business success - and it tells how to hone customer-focused processes to do so. Chapters focus on common barriers to communications and effective listening, and how they may be overcome. This isn't just theory, either: the authors have worked with businesses and presented the principles of CHAMPIONSHIP SELLING, to see businesses increase by 30% or more.
