Download Description
All students of 'built environment' subjects need to have a core understanding of the key areas of the law that affect the industry. This book allows them to learn these issues in a clear-cut and realistic approach giving them knowledge and a secure grasp of how the rules and regulations work in practice. As Anne Galbraith wrote in the third edition, 'Legal advice given in good time may prove to be very cost effective in the long term' - this book will teach its readers, whether students or professionals, when to seek this advice. The fifth edition has been fully updated to include all the changes within the law since 1998, including the amendments to the Health and Safety Acts and the introduction of new EU laws, and changes to the building regulations.

Two books: One Hot, one warm........2007-06-09
If you haven't read any of Gil Brewer's Gold Medal paper back originals from the 1950s, here's a great place to start. If you are already familiar with him, from say, Hard Case Crime's re-release of The Vengeful Virgin, this double release by Stark House of Wild to Possess and A Taste for Sin, is a great follow up.
Of the two, A Taste for Sin is definitely the best. Five stars. You will inhale this one. It has a relentless pace similar to that of Vengeful Virgin. Taste for Sin is the story of Jim Phalen, who is on the run from a cheating wife and an act of vengeance that he committed in the heat of the moment against his wife's lover. Working in a new town, and trying to hack out a new life without his wife, Jim meets Felice and for the first time he thinks he can forget his wife and the past. The passion scenes between these two explode on the pages like nothing I've read before. This is hot passion, smoldering with a fire that you don't find in today's over blown and explicit fiction.
While the heat between the two is reason enough to read this book, the main plot is terrific: a bank robbery that Felice wants Jim to help her pull off. The road to this heist has enough twists and turns along the way to keep the pressure on Jim, and will keep you flipping the pages as fast as you can.
While the end is a bit over the top, it does set up a nice ring out.
Brewer is known for writing some of his books at break neck speed, and this one seems to have rushed forth out of him like it was screaming to get on the page. And once there, it screams to get back off of it. Not a word wasted.
Which segues to Wild to Possess, the other book in this double release, where words are wasted. A good editing job could have made this average tale much better. From what I've learned, Brewer's life, like many of his characters, was ruled at times by alcohol abuse. In Wild to Possess, both the writer and the main character seem to be overindulging in the gin. The result is too many paragraphs repeating the same thoughts and observations. The story boggs down. And this is a shame because the story itself is quite original, with the main character Lew Brookbank learning of a kidnapping plot, and deciding to kidnap from the kidnappers.
Like Jim Phalen in A Taste for Sin, Lew is running from a wife who betrayed him. Only she and her lover are both dead, and someone thinks Lew is responsible. So, we have two stories running head long into each other. This creates nice tension. There is also a love interest, which is hard for me to buy into, because there is nothing redeeming about Lew in his present condition. Maybe she sees the man beneath, but it didn't work for me. Also, the plot requires some pretty manipulative and creative actions on Jim's part, and as drunk as he was all the time, these actions seemed a stretch.
Not among Brewer's best, and I give Wild to Possess three stars. It's like a C plus read. If you are into Brewer, read it. But, what ever you do, read A Taste for Sin first. You won't be disappointed. And check out other Stark House releases. They are publishing some great books long out of print, by writers like Day Keene, Harry Whittington, A. S. Fleischman, and others. Framed in Guilt / My Flesh is Sweet

Wild Yet Down to Earth!.......2006-07-06
In the age of pre-packaged, heat and serve, mealtimes often lack nourishment; that is, food that satisfies both body and spirit. But fortunately there's a remedy: "Going Wild in the Kitchen." This cookbook not only offers 150+ healthy, palate-pleasing vegetarian recipes, but also inspires and guides readers toward greater creativity in the kitchen.
There is much to like about Going Wild in the Kitchen, not least of which are the many glossaries, charts, and tables that provide all the information one will need in order to prepare the delicious and exciting vegetarian recipes contained in the book - and perhaps a few of your own culinary creations! One particularly handy table details cooking instructions for over eighteen different varieties of grains, including a few "ancient grains," several of which I've never heard of before. And then, of course, there are the recipes! Quinoa with Cauliflower and Feta, and Italian Lentil Stew with Creamy Grano are just two favorites. What's grano, you ask? No worries, it's all in the book!
"Going Wild in the Kitchen" is beautifully illustrated, however one will not find it includes any glossy photographs, yet surprisingly they are not missed. The author, who is an expert cooking instructor as well as a gourmet organic caterer, awakens the imagination by sharing her knowledge, experience, and passion in this superbly substantive vegetarian cookbook. Indeed, "Going Wild in the Kitchen" is bound to present more than a few welcome surprises for even the experienced chef.
In short, I love this cookbook!
Really tasty!.......2006-01-30
My kids demanded I make the peanut butter teff cookies two days in a row. Blueberry cornbread was also delicious. No refined sugar, eggs or milk and many grain alternatives. Quite impressed.
Go wild!.......2005-10-31
This book truly helps the creative cook go wild and have fun in the kitchen. I've tried several recipes and each one came out perfectly, and was a big hit. but the beauty of these recipes is that you don't have to stick to a recipe exactly for it to turn out great. In fact, the author, Leslie Cerier, includes lots of variations and encourages the cook to experiment and play.
I like the fact that the desserts are vegan and that she uses lots of berries, herbs, and unusual whole grains in a number of dishes. The layout is easy on the eye and graphics are fun. This will be a kitchen favorite of anyone who loves healthy, delicious foods, whether vegetarian or not. Buy it, you won't be sorry!
Wow!.......2005-09-16
This book gives great ideas about how to improvise in the kitchen as well as incredible recipes if you are a bit more shy about experimenting. For anyone learning how to cook healthy, nutritious foods that taste great this is the book.
Don't be shy if you aren't vegetarian it still has fabulous ideas for creating healthy meals and expanding your kitchen tool kit.
Great for food allergy sufferers as it has lots of grain variations available too.
Customer Reviews:
A detailed and informative book........2001-09-04
I like the book and am glad to have it. The information is thorough. We had it with us when we went on an outing, and it made the stay even more pleasurable. I wish the drawings were detailed and colored rather than just outlines of the plants. The color plates are too dark. Aside those two things, the book is worth having.
There is more then survival in the desert........2000-07-26
This is a wonderful concise book on edible and nonedible plants of the desert. She includes the Latin name for each plant making it easy to find out more about any one plant. Has good color plates, although I would have liked larger pictures of some of the plants.I am very glad I purchased it and I think anyone who likes seeing more in a plant then something to step on or over will enjoy it.I know I do.
This unusual book is entertaining and informative........1998-03-03
Ever dream of living off the land? A Taste of Nature is a guide to edible plants. This book tells you how to identify edible plants, and gives you a recipe for each plant. In addition, it is beautifully illustrated and reader-friendly.

Table Taming the Wild Woods.......2002-01-07
This book has NO recipes for possum stew and none for wasp larvae appetizers. What it does contain, in plenty, is an excellent survey of good foods to be found in the wild. Ms. Wood takes up where the late Euell Gibbon left off. Indeed, they were contemporaries and mutual respectors of each other's knowledge. Not merely a "find-this-flower" book, nor simply a cookbook nor yet a book of edible esoterica, Ms. Woods has assembled a volume of wild food lore. You can learn when and where to look for certain food plants, how to recognize them when you do see them, and finally, how to best cook and present them. These potentially dry details are presented in a homey, chatty way that kept me thoroughly absorbed. Though the plants described are mostly from the east coast and Appalachia, I found a great many identical to what I see in the heart of our country. This is a fine book which will rest, dogeared and well-used, on my shelf of "books that make life an enjoyable thing." I hope the next edition is twice the size.
...........2001-05-30
...the author ...described some of the recipes as possum stew (she actually uses the animals she runs down on the road) and wasp larvae appetizers. Unless you have a taste for the extreme and you loved the menu on the Survivor Outback series, you would do well to steer clear from this one. A good novelty item, I guess.
