Offers an introduction to medical terminology, basic physiology, and bodily functions. Also includes information regarding certification, licensure, and professional organizations.
Customer Reviews:
great book!.......2005-03-10
Very good book with a great intro to the profession.. It also has a good review section of anatomy and physiology
An Introduction to Clinical Laboratory Science.......2001-02-24
I've found this book a good resource for developing training in Laboratory Science for Biomedical Electronic Technicians. Most new Technicians have extensive electro-mechanical background. Unfortunately, they are usually weak in the Clinical Chemistry area when new to the field. This book gives them a good background in Clinical Laboratory Science that is not written "over their heads."
An Informative and Interesting book.......2000-06-25
An Introduction to Clinical Laboratory Science is an excellent choice for those who are interested in the patient side of Clinical Laboratory Science. The case studies are a very effective way of learning about patient diagnosis and treatment. Overall it is a great introductory book too clinical science

Book Description
Introduction to Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization Principles and Clinical Applications Edited by Michael Andreeff, M.D., PH.D., and Daniel Pinkel, PH.D. Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) has become an essential tool in the diagnosis and management of a variety of solid tumors and hematologic malignancies in the clinical setting, as well as an aid in the identification of particular genetic disorders. Introduction to Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization provides a solid groundwork in the basic principles and techniques of FISH and covers in detail the applications of this technology to cancer in humans, including tumorigenesis, prostate and breast tumors, myeloid leukemias, and lymphoproliferative malignancies. The final section of the book is devoted to the applications of FISH techniques to genetic analysis. This incorporates radiation biodosimetry in chromosomal aberrations, genetic toxicology, and multiprobe methods for detecting chromosomally defective sperm in humans and mice, plus rapid prenatal diagnosis of chromosomal aneuploidies and detection of fetal trisomy. Edited by two leading basic and clinical investigators in the field, with state-of-the-art contributions from expert subspecialists, and featuring over 200 color illustrations, Introduction to Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization is an essential reference for clinicians and investigators in oncology, genetics, and cytometry.

Amazing book to learn how to "reason" USMLE step 1 questions.......2000-08-26
I have used this book extensively in my review class for USMLE step 1 review for 3 years. It allows a logical approach to clinical situations, using laboratory values, quality photos, and informational questions. It consists of 30 5-star quality cases, that begin with admission to the hospital, pertinent History and Physical, laboratory values, radiogaphs and additional information....They are designed to invoke clinical reasoning in every step of the way...I advise this book to anyone as part of their collection of quality materal to succeed on the board step 1

Book Description
A fully automated lab can perform miracles of elucidation-from taking objective measurements to generating massive amounts of data in a short time to drawing conclusions using multivariant statistical methods. In this technically enhanced setting, a chemist can now conduct new types of experiments, ones that require the assimilation of large amounts of data in a short time and others that require the control of a large number of parameters simultaneously or take a long time to complete. Automating a laboratory is surprisingly inexpensive-and given the basic electronics and computer know-how-relatively simple. With this text, written by two chemists who have successfully automated their own labs, you'll be able to fully automate your laboratory, building and programming your own devices and automatic systems, using their measured, step-by-step approach. You'll learn:
- The basic concepts of analog and digital electronics, enabling you to select components of appropriate quality and construct simple circuits
- The dynamics of the simplest electronic elements-resistors, capacitors and RC circuits-and their applications, as well as diodes, rectifiers, filters, regulators, and more
- The basic vocabulary of bit, byte, word and digital signal, gates, latches, counters, and multivibrators
- The basic parts of a microprocessor-the arithmetic logic unit, the internal registers, and the control units-as well as input/output techniques
- Analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion techniques
- The way interface cards can be programmed in interpreted and compiled BASIC, complete with program examples
- The most popular communication protocols for intercommunicating computers, instruments, and other devices
- The laboratory instruments and apparatus with the necessary interfaces useful in building up an automated system
- Laboratory robotics-from motors and position detectors to articulated arms
This definitive, hands-on, and up-to-date text will allow you to smoothly automate your lab in as cost-effective and efficient a style as possible. The versatility of the tools and techniques described are suitable for professional settings as wide as the industrial lab, municipal lab, analytical services, environmental control services, and health services. An Introduction to Laboratory Automation details simply and economically-for students and professionals alike-the practical dynamics behind sciences successful mix of chemistry and computer.
