Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Great read!.......2006-06-29

I recently visited my parents who had a copy of `New Rulers' and immediately wrote it off as partisan garbage. That's before I flicked through it. It wasn't long before I was hooked. `New Rulers' is a compelling read and a shocking expose of hidden government agendas and media complicity. I couldn't put it down.

Inevitably there will be areas of disagreement. I found his analysis at times very one-sided (but that does not make his points less relevant)and there is a tendency to pepper his analysis with out-of-context references - see below. For that reason I gave it a 4 and not a 5 star.

His analysis of the Israel/Palestine dispute I think is extremely one-sided, in one case equating the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories with Iraqi occupation of Kuwait - Iraq was never attacked by its neighbours, whereas Israel has been attacked several times and the occupied territories are a consequence of the failed 1967 war that the Arab world initiated. A puzzling omission.

In his analysis of the problems facing large segments of the Aboriginal people, he seems to think that making a treaty, giving land rights and a `proper share of the resources' will solve their problems. But to what extent can Aborigines take responsibility for their own fate? He fails to mention that the ones who do integrate into mainstream society (not just in sport) do enjoy first world living standards and there is ample government support for Aborigines who do want to succeed in mainstream society. It is the ones who are living in isolated communes who are living a third world existence. Pilger suggests on several occasions that we should follow the USA/Canada lead regarding their native inhabitants. Do we really want Aborigines living in Reserve conditions?

In his analysis of the problems facing Africa, he once again places the blame squarely at the West and US-developed institutions (IMF, World Bank, WTO). He overlooks the fact however, that many Asian countries were in the same predicament as many African countries in the 1960s. The Asian countries have, however, through careful planning and initiative, raised their living standards dramatically (eg. The Asian Tigers) whereas Africa has actually gone backwards in many instances. It would seem that rampant corruption and tribalism play a large role in Africa's predicament.

Without actually saying so, I'm sure he sees the US as the number one evil in the world today. He is very one-sided here and fails to point out any good in their foreign policy. Maybe he can't see any. Such out-of-context references as Hiroshima and Nagasaki, where half a million or so were killed, require context to be fair, ie. that Japan did start the war, perpetrated untold horrors around the world and refused to surrender. It was estimated by the allies that a land invasion of Japan could cause an extra 2 million casualties, many of those American soldiers who did not start the war. A decision such as the A-bomb was classic realpolitik and I wouldn't want a Pilger defending me in a world war.

However, Pilger attacks the left and right with equal ferocity. It's pretty hard, as a few reviewers want to do, to blindly write off a book which for the most part is left-right impartial, unhysterical (in stark contrast to say, a Michael Moore) and sources most of its claims. Or to write off an author who champions the little man and has travelled all around the world and had first-hand experience of the issues he is talking about.

I now look at Pilger and politicians of all persuasions in a completely new light.

Congratulations to John Pilger on this eye-opener.

No Anaesthetic............2005-12-20

While much has been said to laud Pilger's book already, I would have to add my own praise for it. Despite that fact that "The New Rulers of the World" takes to one's preconceptions with something akin to a tactical nuke, rather than a scalpel, the book is well researched and definitely well-written. Pilger not only does journalism, but does it with flair and style.

The already mentioned accusations of being a "left-wing fundamentalist" have also been something I have heard with Pilger's name in the same sentence. I would also agree that it is merely a convenient excuse for those who do not wish to really address the issues that Pilger raises, and those issues are many.

Pilger uses extensive notes and referencing, so you can easily check up on him. For instance, he made some very large claims about civilian deaths in Iraq causes by United Nations sanction. Myself, not believing that such an enlightened organisation from a "civilised" world could be guilty of such things, decided to check the United Nations website Pilger gave. He was not wrong, even by the U.N.'s accounting. At times, he mentions things that were stated in interviews that he carried out, but these are quite rare, and certainly not often enough to detract from his case.

After reading this book, I was fairly despondent. This is not a "feel good" book with a happy ending. This is a book that will smash your face in. It is not gentle. With a focus on human rights and other issues, Pilger has given us an excellent book and excellent journalism.

Horrifying and shaming.......2005-09-19

The theme of this book is revealing the Orwellian nature of our leading politicians: they condemn in public a type of crime which they are committing in secret. The first three chapters are about the words and actions of the British and American Governments. Chapter 1 is about Indonesia and its economic success. It charts how Suharto took over with a bloodbath, supplied with hit lists by the Americans. He was sustained in power by weapons sold to him by Britain and America. He was praised for his economic wisdom while he plundered the country, eventually leading to its bankruptcy and his overthrow. Chapter 2 is about Iraq, mass murder and weapons of mass destruction. It states that America and Britain have committed genocide in Iraq. These are not Pilger's words, but the statements of UN officials charged with distributing food and medical aid, as they resigned from their positions in protest. He documents how America and Britain denied the most basic of supplies to Iraq, and how their claims to the contrary are remarkably feeble lies. He uses the infamous statement by Madeleine Albright, Secretary of State to Clinton, who said the price was worth it when specifically asked about the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi children by American sanctions. Through Pilger's words you meet some of those children, and it becomes impossible not to understand and mourn their deaths. Chapter 3 is mainly about the arms trade. Blair is quoted as saying that the way to stop terrorism is to stop the supply of arms. Pilger documents, as he has done before, that America and Britain remain the world's biggest suppliers of arms, and that when the forces of military dictators shoot civilians, they are usually doing it with American and British weapons.

Chapter 4 is about Australia. Pilger collects the evidence about the true state of race relations here: Australia as two nations, a white, healthy first world country, and a black third world group with among other things horrific medical neglect by the government. It started with colonisation by genocide, just as in America, with one difference so far: Americans have acknowledged it and Australians have not. There is an earlier review in which Pilger's accuracy and honesty are challenged based on the half dozen pages he writes about Israel, though the writer does not actually refute anything Pilger has said. One of the very first things I discovered when my family moved here was that Australians are racist, and the depths of it I have discovered since have astonished me. I believe Pilger, in this matter and the others, because I know the truth of much of what he writes from other sources, my own research and simply watching Australian politicians operate.

This is excellently written, it is compelling, and it is accurate. The second and fourth chapters individually are worth the price of the book.

Useless.......2005-08-10

A book about American foreign policy could be very useful. No matter what your political views may be, a book that tells the truth will be helpful. On the other hand, no matter what your political views may be, this book won't help. It can't be trusted.

The topic I'm expert enough to judge this book on is Israel. And what Pilger has to say about it is way off.

Now, what kinds of comments could one make about Israel? One could say that while Jews are not allowed to live in Saudi Arabia, and while they don't live in Jordan either, nor (at least in significant numbers) in much of the rest of the region, Jews are permitted to live in Israel, and even to have human rights there! And that many folks in the United Nations, the European Union, the Arab world, and elsewhere in the international community, rather than deploring the racist exclusion of Jews in much of the Arab world, deplore the existence of human rights in Israel!

Pilger does not say that!

It seems to me an extraordinary manifestation of racism for Israel to be excluded from the Mediterranean Games. But Pilger does not mention this. No, he's too busy implying that Arafat was a statesman, not a thug. And that the Israeli attempts to defend its citizens from terror is just a sneaky trick, designed to hurt innocent Arabs. And that the BBC is too biased in favor (!) of Israel.

As I said, no matter what your politics may be, what you want is a book you can trust with its facts. And this book won't do in that regard.

Sins of the western world........2005-08-06

John Pilger is a hero in my eyes. He tells the truth about the terrible atrocities that have been committed by the NATO western governments while they have brainwashed us into believing that our nations are noble and honest and virtuous. I never believed that, I always thought it was tired old propaganda. Mr Pilger explains to you why it is just that. There is no moral high ground when there are governments involved. There are no democracies, only plutocracies,see you in Guantanamo.

Indian Freedom Into White Man's Utilitarianism.......2004-08-09

I found this book being both an honest account and a more accurate description of the Indian-American experience, as it comes from a man who was both Indian and personally lived through the trials and hardships through the Sioux tribe.

What is so interesting about the story is the naïve attribute of Luther Standing Bear and his honest, open and yet hold fast integrity. His trusting nature was so evident through out the story and yet he did not lack any intelligence and understanding. Of course those Indians with such nature were taken advantage of, and yet Luther Standing Bear remains always optimistic. There were many hardships, as in the loss of his free world and native life to a utilitarian white man's world of hustle and capitalism.

First there was much land taken and much sold with fraudulent treaties with government subsidiaries supplied, but it was the White's destruction of natural resources, the loss of the Buffalo and available food that caused the Indian's independence to wain and turn to the White man's society. This in turn set them up for what came next:

"Then like a thunderbolt from a clear sky came on order from the Interior Department that all rations and annuity goods which had been issued to all able-bodied Indians were to be cut off unless the Indians were willing to work for them."

This both took many Indians away from their homes to labor and in Luther Standing Bear's case, three jobs he took to support himself. The John Stuart Mill version of democracy, it's utilitarian enforcement of productivity is now forced on the Indian culture, a people whose land and free paced life was removed from them.

Luther relates how many whites took advantage of the non-English speaking Indians signing fraudulent land selling agreements, including a few unscrupulous Indians as Spotted Tail, who did the selling. There was also mentioned his experience of observing those Indians who were promised to be brought to Washington to speak to the government, but were being unknowingly used as city stop side shows, with tickets sales to the white men's advantage.

There were also the innocent killing of many Indians, the force of White man's culture, including the clothes, the cutting of hair, the religious teachings, the restriction against using his native tongue, and yet in Luther Standing Bear considered it bravery and wisdom to adopt the white man's ways and learn as much as he can to prove to the world that the Indians were both capable and good at living and producing just as the white men. His attendance at the Carlyle School, his relations and actions towards those in charge were so admirable.

The was also the death of two of his children, the event of a terrible train crash, events that would leave a horrendous impact on any person, and this man, Luther Standing Bear, maintains a strength of internal character that is most impeccable of a high and honorable nature. Not many persons would have remained so, and there is no complaining from him here, no venting, only stating his objective observances of both positive and negative occurrences and his subjective opinions written in such fair assessments.

Luther also relates how his people missed a few chances to better their predicament with the government as in Buffalo Bill's attempt to speak to the president in behalf of them and another occurrence where an agent influenced many to protect his own monetary interests.

Between Luther and his father, they understood the white man's invasion of the Indian world was "thick" and it was in wisdom to adopt their ways in order to survive. The major drawback from all this was the adoption also meant assimilation, as the dress, the religion and the language of the Indian was discouraged by the white man to be beneath his culture as inferior.

And yet all of the above was not meant as partisan to negativity, but rather, Luther was always optimistic, anxious to please his instructors and employers, admirable in is his constant desire to please the people he worked with, Captain Pratt in the Carlyle School, his employer at the Department Store, Buffalo Bill and many others. And for this he was very well liked, including by myself.

I have not yet finished this book, as it does take awhile to read. It is very informative and has a lot of intersting facts about this Avalon and Glastonbury; however, it can be difficult to read.

Excellent historical and mythological reference!.......2003-09-29

Nicholas Mann captures the spirit of Avalon through the combined lenses of history, archeology, mythology and comparative spirituality rarely found in comparable texts. A must-own for anyone interested in Glastonbury, the Arthurian Mythos, spiritual history in sacred Britain, sacred geomety and geomancy. Mann brings a critical yet intuitively insightful perspective to all of the above. Well worth reading more than once!!

I've just come back from Glastonbury, and having read this book first helped a great deal. I'm reading it again, and am feeling so enlightened. If you love Avalon, you must have this book.

A Worthwhile Read.......1998-06-28

Anyone interested in the background behind the mysts of Avalon will enjoy this book. I found it well-researched, fairly easy to read, and quite informative. A great collection to my library.

Although the traditional Sioux nation was in its last days when Luther Standing Bear was born in the 1860s, he was raised in the ancestral manner to be a successful hunter and warrior and a respectful and productive member of Sioux society. Known as Plenty Kill, young Standing Bear belonged to the Western Sioux tribe that inhabited present-day North and South Dakota. In My Indian Boyhood he describes the home life and education of Indian children. Like other boys, he played with toy bows and arrows in the tipi before learning to make and use them and became schooled in the ways of animals and in the properties of plants and herbs. His life would be very different from that of his ancestors, but he was not denied the excitement of killing his first buffalo before leaving to attend the Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania.

A valuable insight into Lakota lifeways........2004-04-11

Being written for young people, Standing Bear's account of his Lakota childhood is necessarily sanitized and romanticized. Its focus is on the domestic life of his people. Mention is often made of the courage of the warriors but there is no description of any military action. An incident is related of an enemy warrior stumbling into the village. We are told that he was well treated and quickly released. It is hard to believe that that was typical treatment of an enemy. Similarly, the more adult themes of courtship and sexuality are largely ignored. What we are left with is a treasure trove of homely detail: how cooking was accomplished in the absence of metal pots, how the boys caught turtles in the creek, what games they played. This is the very warp and weft of everyday life that gets left out of the broad-sweep histories that concentrate on great battles and famous lives.

Standing Bear may not always be totally reliable, any more than any other commentator - for example, his account of leather tanning, which was strictly women's work, did not quite ring true for me. (Not that I have ever tanned a buffalo hide - I just doubt it can be done in quite the way he describes). All the same this remains an essential work, packed full as it is of fascinating detail, for anyone interested in understanding the lifestyle of the Sioux, and is a perfect gift for a youngster who expresses an interest in American Indians.

A great story with a good message........1999-10-11

Living in NYC, it was a unique experience to be able to read a book, and then take my son to the place where the action occurs. We pretended to also be pirates, and this made the book a wonderful facillitator for imaginative play. But the book is for more than Manhattanites - I bought it for friends living in the Midwest, and am purchasing it again to send to a friend in Philly. I highly recommend it.
