Absolutely the Best Study Bible.......2003-06-09

I really love my Max Lucado Inspirational NKJV Study Bible. It's a wonderful study bible with many sidebars of life lessons of Lucado's teaching guides. This the only one I use because it helps me to have a better understanding of the Scriptures. Each Book of the Old and New Testaments are laid out in an instruction manual style. All chapters are boldly titled to explain the situation for each one. The Life Lessons examines more closely the situation, makes observations, gives inspiration, makes application and gives further explorations of other scriptures throughout the Bible. It's chalkful of footnotes of many reliable references. Throughout this study gem are more inspirational ancedotes from Grace, Forgiveness, Suffering and Victory to God's Love, Hope, Prayer and Faith. And many more worthwhile inspirations that will bless your life. Even more, it has one hundred greatest thoughts, an index to selected readings, a dictionary with topical concordance, acknowledgments from many great references from the most notable names in Christianity. There's even a place in the back to add your own notes. I'm sure this is the only study bible you'll ever use. I find it to be the most comprehensive, enriching masterpiece of the Holy Bible yet. I would definitely give this as a nice gift.

I found this to be an excellent study tool. Max Lucado does not give a commentary on the verses. Instead he gives a life application lesson with the scriptures and a devotional thought. XCELLENT!!!!!

I love the Inspirational Study Bible, mine is NKJV. It has truly opened the word up to me as never before. I love reading and studying from it. It helps me understand a lot more of what was going on at the times the books were written. Mostly it helps me apply the Word to my own life. Max Lucado is such a gifted writer. He is truly blessed by God. This bible made such a difference in my life when I needed it the most. I purchased this Bible over 3 years ago and was so appreciative of the book as a whole. It was informative and the illustrations on the side gave me hope each and every day. Unfortunately, the Bible was stolen because it was in the driver's seat of my vehicle that was stolen in July of 1997. I have not found a Bible that has so much to offer as well as inform. I really love the way Max Lucado illustrates the Word.

I love to read and I love God's Word.......2006-03-13

I really love to read although I do not have a lot of time to do so presently. I went to a Biblical research college and I did not want and "edited" version of an audio Bible, nor did I want a dramatized version or music behind it (I find that too distracting). I qualified for free shipping and my order came much faster than I anticipated, or even as stated when I completed the purchase. Amazon was very helpful when I asked if a different audio Bible came in a case or not. This one came in a nice case. I was already familiar with Alexander Scourby (which is who reads the Old Testament of this order) and was not aware that James Earl Jones reads the New Testament. It is very pleasant, but a bit too soothing for a long road trip. I am very pleased with my order and will be an Amazon customer for life!

Not perfect, but excellent!.......2007-08-01

I am totally enthralled with this CD set of the Holy Bible. I like the reader of the Old Testament better than the New Testament, but I like the idea that there are two different voices. I have found a couple of glitches, like where the end of a chapter gets cut off abruptly and then the next chapter begins. This however was not enough in my opinion to give less than the best grade.

It totally amazes me how much I understand just listening to the CDs. I thought I was going to listen while I read and this would keep me "on track," so to speak, but I find I enjoy just listening, and this way I rest my eyes, and also get great comprehension. I personally don't find I get much comprehension while driving, but others have commented to the opposite, and I can't disprove what they say, it's just this isn't an application that works for me.

If any producers of Bibles on CD are reading, I would like to give my "suggestions" for improvement. I would like no CD to start or end in the middle of a chapter. My utmost preference would be for each Bible book to be on its own CD, I realize that some of smaller books would have to be combined onto a single CD, and I also realize my "suggestion" would mean the CDs weren't all of equal time length, that's just the way I would like it! I also think I would enjoy a variety of voices in the complete set, perhaps a female voice, even a youth's or child's voice (but of course with clear pronunciation and soothing tonal quality.

All in all, I think this is a great CD set. I would recommend it highly as a gift for anyone who loves the Bible. The carrying case is also great, I didn't expect that and it's beautiful and useful and and "serendipity."

If you're looking for a few good translations in the same volume, this is the book for you. It's useful as a study Bible...the different translations give you better insight as to what the original authors were saying. The Amplified includes a few commentary clips and cross-references to explain some more difficult passages.

Remember, though, that it is strictly four versions of the Bible. There is no concordance, and there are no study helps outside of the limited footnotes.

You definitely can't beat the size, considering that you're really carrying four Bibles around. I'm pleased with the purchase!

It has helped me tremendously to have multiple translations at hand in my studies. Most places they simply add depth of understanding to each other, but, in several passages, they seem to say completely different things. It is my opinion that until we meet God, nobody on earth can have perfect understanding of the Bible, but this one helps you get a little closer.

This Bible is an excellent way to get 4 of the best Bible translations all together in one place. It makes it very simple to compare verses without having four separate Bibles open. I plan on taking it to Bible College with me this fall in order to save space that would have been needed for four separate Bibles. The burgandy leather cover is very nice. My only negative comment would be the small print, but I realize that with four complete translations, it would end up being a huge book if the print were larger.

The book has a unique charm to it that will prompt many readers to revisit, reread and highlight sections throughout their careers.

The chief obstacles to career success are personal and administrative in nature with problems arising from the violation of the unwritten laws of professional conduct rather than errors relating directly to work. That was W.J. King's observation in 1944 and he expanded on that observation in a series of three articles for "Mechanical Engineering". That series of articles was published as a book The Unwritten Laws of Engineering. For some sixty years, The American Society of Mechanical Engineers published this book to an audience of mechanical engineers. The book was rescued from general obscurity by William H. Swanson, Raytheon's Chief Executive Officer. Swanson referenced this book in his famous pamphlet on corporate management. Effective career guidance has no expiration date and this book has been updated, retitled and published in the popular business press version.

The Unwritten Laws of Engineering became an underground classic and with more than 100,000 copies published over sixty years. This book was often given to new engineers at the beginning of their careers as helpful professional guidance. This "little big book" is straight forward in its approach and succinct in its guidance. This book of less than 110 pages is subdivided into three sections - "What the beginner needs to learn at once", "Relating chiefly to managers" and "Professional and personal considerations". What is affirming is that so many of these principles and laws outlined in 1944 for mechanical engineers remain true and pungent today for professionals.

This is an incredible find. It was not only a quick, easy read but very inspiring too! I loved all the words of wisdom and examples throughout. I could relate almost everything in this book to personal and work related experiences. I loved this little gem of a book. It gently reminds us how to be a better employee or employer, but I think this advice ultimately can help us be better in ALL of our relationships. Imagine if we let our ethics be our assett with our friends, neighbors and family, as well as our supervisors and co-workers. The title does not do this book justice, because it is not just the business community who needs these lessons. Whether you serve ice cream at a local shop, superivse small children at a day-care, teach in a classroom, or manage a multi-million dollar corporation, this book is all you need to guide you. Buy multiple copies and give it to college graduates and high-school students applying for their first job. If you are a high school guidance counselor, teach it to your students. If you are a boss, give it to your employees when they are hired (and read your own copy again and again!). The information in the book reminded me of my dad's generation and the ethics and expectations he taught me that I wish were practiced by more today. In particular, the piece on integrity being an asset was a good reminder that only we can control our integrity and increase that asset or allow it to become a liability if misused. If all professionals took into consideration the "unwritten laws," work places would be much more productive, positive, and personally stimulating. As I continue in my career in education moving ever so quickly into administrative roles, I hope to use this book as beginning discussion point for creating workplace norms within the educational setting for teachers and administrators who sometimes feel outside the "business world" when really we are educational salespeople, classroom CEOs, and community managers. Great book with timeless information! Thanks to the original author as well as Jim Skakoon who only increased its value and readability.

This book was a classic, but why does it have to be metric? I guess converting it gave the academics something to do. Here is a news flash for the publisher: Civil Engineers praticing in the US don't use the metric system. Even our state DOT has given up on converting. I wish that the 6th edition was still available. Its just about useless now.

If you need a reference manual, this has everything. Although, most people need text books for problem solving, whether they be a student or a professional. This book some how managed to completely avoid sample problems. I returned it.

This has been such a inspirational tool for me to embrace the role of a leader. The different perspectives on the roles of some of the most famous and not so famous characters in the bible really shows how God uses everyone where they are to "lead" but mostly to just be good examples. I really enjoy this bible and often read my devotional or NIV bibles for specific study groups and then compare the translation with my leadership bible for a twist on the meaning.

As a Hispanic-American increasingly involved in speaking out about social issues and looking for inspiration, I stumbed upon this incredible book.

I have since learned to love the writings and speeches of Doctor Martin Luther King. They are mighty and powerful and beautifully crafted. Biblical in their content and style, they are tremendously moving. They simplify the complicated and elevate the important!

His words ring out as loud and clear today as they did some forty years ago. For example, in one of his last and most radical speeches, "Where Do We Go From Here?" Doctor King exhorted:

"Let us go out with a 'divine dissatisfaction!

Let us be dissatisfied until America will no longer have a high blood pressure of Creeds and an anemia of Deeds!

Let us be dissatisfied until the tragic walls that separate the outer city of wealth and comfort from the inner city of poverty and dispair shall be crushed by the battering rams of the forces of justice!

Let us be dissatisfied until those that life on the outskirts of hope are brought into the metropolis of daily security!

Let us be dissatisfied until slums are cast into the junk heaps of history and every family is living in a decent sanitary home!"

A thorough and moving chronicle of a heroic man and Christian.......2007-07-29

A suggested read for anyone (emphasis). Through the essays, abridged novels, and interviews, one can gather a personal and philosophical history of MLK, a summary of the civil rights movement, and a greater understanding of life and religion (which are inextricably attached really). I particularly appreciated the notion that civil rights was really about human rights on a global scale. He oft points out that poor whites, Latinos, and Asians, faced the same issues in the U. S. and across the globe.

A central theme is the principles of nonviolent resistance, which are essentially (if properly understood) unbiased and unwavering compassion and respect for (all) human life. I believe this is the single greatest area of failure in our current society. The book has entrenched that position further, with a deepened understanding of what it means, where the problems have exhibited themselves, and how we might improve upon the situation.

I must say as a native Alabamian and habitant of Birmingham for almost 10 years, the book has particular relevance to me. However, the history chronicled within is the history of man and is therefore applicable to everyone.

Martin Luther King Jr. the great American Civil Rights leader was a voice not only for black people in the United States, but for Mankind as a whole. He dreamed but he did not dream for black people alone but for every single American, and every single human being. Essentially his message was one of hope.
He was perhaps the most powerful speaker the United States had in the twentieth century. His 'I have a dream' speech on the Mall in Washington at the height of the Civil Rights movements was a call for and affirmation of human dignity and freedom.
He spoke in the language and rhythms of the Bible.
In his Nobel Prize Speech he articulated his faith in nonviolence as a means for human liberation. While it might be possible to question the validity of the non- violent option when confronting the most ruthless forms of totalitarian Evil it nonetheless is tribute to the spirit of King's deep Christian faith that he so passionately preached the 'non- violent doctrine'.
This book is a testimony to one of the truly great Americans of the twentieth - century. A man who by his example , by his deeds, ( And his words too are great deeds) gave hope and freedom to so many.
This work could not be recommended more highly.

A Testament of Hope is indispensible for a complete understanding of MLK Jr. the man. He was so much more than a monolithic figure of the Civil Rights movement. He was a pastor, theologian, philosopher, diplomat, husband, and father. A Testament of Hope helps the reader to grasp the multifaceted life of this icon of the twentieth century. This book lets the reader into the very human life of MLK Jr. Nowhere have I discovered a more cogent explanation of passive resistance than in the various speeches and essays contained in this book. If you are engaged in the struggle for civil rights or if you seek to better understand modern humanity more completely add this book to your library and consult it often.

Then it links each step to passages in either the NT, Psalms, or Proverbs and has a full page meditation.
