Beamer Memory Book.......2007-09-23
This book isn't what I thought it would be. I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but I felt drawn to Lisa because of our similar age and family situation.
Through reading this book, I felt more like this book was written for Lisa's children. Maybe they are the ones who she had in mind while writing this book, because the book oozed with details that I feel would be most special to her children and family as time goes on. At times, I almost felt like I was intruding into another family's life. But, how easy we can forget those details unless they are written down. I can imagine this book will be the most special and important to her children and family as they grow older.
hope for resilience after tradegy.......2007-06-13
I read this book shortly after it was published. As a child in a family where my father died before I was born, though not of a tragedy like 911, and a very resilient mother who raised me and three older siblings to be resilient and trust in God no matter what the circumstances, I identified very much with what she wrote. I also saw the understanding in her losing her father at a young age. She expressed this well telling what can help others in what was a public tragedy. I find it very encouraging to her and her children and agree with them, "Let's Roll!" It is a book of teaching people to be kind and to respond to cruelty with kindness towards others.
A Truly Inspiring Story.......2007-03-31
Let's Roll! is an excellent story to read, and I enjoyed every page of it. Lisa Beamer's story was very inspiring and touched my heart. It was amazing to see Lisa's deep faith in God, even through the very tough times in her life. Lisa Beamer is such a strong person, and it comes out very clearly in her writing. I admire her strength and courage.
This book was very interesting to read. I had a hard time putting this book down; I was so involved with the story. This book was very sad at parts and I had to try to hold back tears. But, along with the sad times, there were also several funny parts.
The part I liked the most about this book is that I could relate to the story very easily because I lived during the September 11 attacks. Even though I was only in fourth grade and miles away from Ground Zero, I still felt the sorrow and fear that September 11 brought. I hadn't lost anyone I knew during the 9/11 attacks, so this book opened my eyes to what it feels like to lose someone to a terrorist attack. Lisa's story was very inspirational to me. It taught me to live for today, and gave me hope to move on after devastating events occur.
A Very Stong Willed Mother.......2007-01-10
I have not read this latest version of Let's Roll, but I had read the original version after the death of Todd Beamer. I lent my original version to my aunt & she never returned my book. I was so happy to have purchased this one as Lisa Beamer has updated her kids pictures, it is so nice to see how they have grown. Lisa Beamer is a very stong willed woman with 3 small children to raise alone, I don't think I could have been as strong as she has been.. This book will bring you to tears & also make you laugh, it is well written by a very strong & well rounded woman..

Stomach-turning narration.......2006-09-15
"Let's Roll" is the story of the lives of Lisa Beamer of her husband Todd, who was killed aboard United Flight 93 on September 11th, 2001. See my review of the hard cover for details.
The two stars are for the horrendous job of narration. Lisa Helms gives Lisa Beamer a voice that is so chirpy, perky and mindless that I could hardly stomach the book. The first 3-4 CDs were so relentlessly cute and smug that I almost couldn't stand listending to more. Only when the book rolled around the describing the events of 9/11 and its aftermatch did Helms calm down enough to be tolerable.
Read the book, or skip the first 4 CDs if you have a weak stomach for saccharin.

This audio book went into a complete background of both Lisa and Todd Beamers lifes: from childhood, through school, to college and how they meet. It gives you great detail on the background of these two peoples lifes, but I felt it was too wordy at times, especially when I was expecting this book to be mainly an account of the 9/11 incidents. But when Lisa finally gets to this account in her book, it is very detailed and interesting. Lisa and Todds closesness and devotion to God give hope to the reader and our Nation .. a great reminder.

The book Lets roll is a good book for people to read what happened to Lisa. In this book she talks about her life, marriage, children and staying home taking care of her kids. A normal staying home mom. Lisa beamer is a wife of the 9-11 hero Todd beamer. Lisa was talking to Todd her husband on the phone while the terrorist were on the plane with him. Lisa has a lot of courage to write this book and put her life on the line for all of the nation to read she wrote the book of her life and her family. To tell the world what she was thinking the day of 9-11 and the days before and after the attacks was very hard for her as she said in the book but she was incredible open about it. Lisa talked about how her and her husband was a very close. Lisa now has three wonderful children. The title of the book Lets Roll came from when she was on the phone with her husband Todd and He was talking to another person on the flight and they were talking about how they were going to take down the terrorist or they wouldn?t make it through the day. Fantastic.......2002-10-17
I think this should be required reading for every married couple with children. Lisa explains how dedicated (sometimes too dedicated) Todd was to his job and how he discovered there was more to life than just his job. It discusses the couple's negotiations over family time versus work time, and strong work ethic and faith values. I highly recommend anyone to give this book a read or a listen!

very well written with meticulous detail to time lines, places and names. A great overview of one marine's life. The opening prologue is what originally attracted me to the book. I hope some day that this writer expands on that opening statement.

Charlie Cooper is a classmate of mine from the Naval Academy, Class of 1950. He was on the varsity football team at Navy. After graduation he was badly wounded in Korea as a platoon commander, served with honor in Vietnam, and had many interesting tours of duty, including the command of the Marine Barracks in Washington, DC. Charlie retired as a Lieutenant General in charge of the Fleet Marine Force, Pacific. He tells the great story of his career in a straightforward and honest manner.

Moskin goes into great depth and has gleaned everything possible from his source materials. Readers may find the the book plods at times because of the level of detail, but you get the feeling that the book is very complete. Moskin is a bit old fashioned in his language (read "un-politically correct"), but overall a very thorough history.
Awesome accounts of Marine Corps history!.......1998-10-03
The U.S Marines pride shines through our history. All Marines past and present have made commitments to serving their country and chose the best armed service to do it in. This book gives fine examples of Marine Corps motivation and the battles in which extreme motivation was needed. Such Marines as Chesty Puller and Dan Daly are the reasons why the Marines tradtion keeps going. SEMPER FI

A Traitor.......2007-06-01
How could a Marine (North) even consider selling weapons to a nation (Iran) that financed the suicide attack (carried out by Hezbollah) that murdered over 140 of his fellow Marines in Beruit in '83? It boggles the mind. He is a traitor who should have been sent to Leavenworth, along with all of the morally challanged officers and politicians above him.
Ally of fascism and terrorism.......2005-12-11
The main issue, unacknowledged in North's disgusting, self-justifying book and unmentioned in most of these reviews, is not whether North was acting 'illegally' or without Reagan's consent - it's the fact that he was involved in siphoning money to fascist death squads so that they could overthrow a democratic government. The Contras murdered, mutilated, tortured and raped civilians; 30,000 people lost their lives in the civil war between the Contras and the government. The victims of the Contra attacks were not 'evil Communists', but priests, teachers, nurses and schoolchildren.
The Sandinista government itself was not, as another reviewer claimed, a Soviet stooge, but a non-aligned, Leftist government who favoured a mixed economy, human rights and democracy. The Sandinistas introduced free healthcare and education, land reform and fair elections; they started a massive literacy campaign and abolished the death penalty. The Sandinistas' only serious human rights violation, their treatment of the indigenous Miskito population, was acknowledged as such after pressure from human rights groups, and the Sandinistas ultimately granted the Miskito full autonomy. This is in marked contrast to the US's refusal to even acknowledge, let alone attempt to rectify, its many abuses...
Many of the Contra fighters were loyalists of the previous Somoza regime, a vicious military dictatorship that the US had supported for years. All of the guff about restoring 'democracy' to Nicaragua was either a lie or a gross misunderstanding of reality; it would have been more accurate to talk about restoring fascism. The freedom-loving US appears often to get these two political systems mixed up, given that they also funded, armed and trained barbarous military juntas in Guatemala, Chile, Brazil, Argentina and El Salvador, a country where 70,000 people were killed.
So the issue is not the 'illegality', by US terms, of North's actions. The shocking reality is that North was only carrying out standard US foreign policy. The crimes here are not those of a lone individual, but of an entire administration. After all, in the early 1980s, the World Court indicted the US for conducting a campaign of state terrorism against Nicaragua.
This said, North's role in the funding of the Contras makes him, by any rational standards, a war criminal, an abetter of terrorism, an accomplice in mass murder. That's the real story here.
colonel makes more hits than a nicaraguan death squad.......2005-09-26
colonel north does it again by giving the reader a searing and fascinating look into his life all while importing enough cocaine into america to finance a large village in columbia, what a busy guy!!!. The only thing that disapointed me was the colonel's lack of detail's regarding the time he spent destroying incriminating documents after former head of c.i.a william casey gave him the heads up to get rid of the documents, nice work ollie!!!......
Almost bought it........2005-06-01
I almost bought this book but then read the 9/11 report and was reminded that Mr. North broke the law, was indicted, and then was pardoned because of a technicality;and now for some reason, there are those trying to make a hero out of him....he's taken advantage of his ill begotten fame and has made himself a millionaire...Fox news loves him....I then decided not to contribute to his coffers....

This book is a very well written account of Oliver North's life. It details the Iran-Contra situation, his time at Annapolis Naval Academy, his time serving in Vietnam, and among oother things his family life which gives us some personal information about Ollie.
From the time I picked up this book I couldn't put it down for more than the time it took to rest my eyes. This book is very interesting from start to finish and gives you a great look inside the life of a true American Hero.
