Starting from scratch, simply by picking stocks and companies for investment, Warren Buffett amassed one of the epochal fortunes of the 20th century -- an astounding net worth of $10 billion and counting. That awesome record has made him a cult figure.
This illuminating biography reveals a man whose conscientiousness, integrity, and good humor exist alongside an odd emotional isolation.
Buffett also masterfully traces his life: his enormously successful partnership; his early, inspired investments in American Express and Geico; his companionship and investment with Katharine Graham of the Washington Post; his role in the Capital Cities purchase of ABC; his unique relationship with his wife and mistress; and his rescue of the scandal-ridden Salomon Brothers.
Book Description
Since its hardcover publication in August of 1995, Buffett has appeared on the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Los Angeles Times, Seattle Times, Newsday and Business Week bestseller lists. The incredible landmark portrait of Warren Buffett's uniquely American life is now available in paperback, revised and updated by the author.
Starting from scratch, simply by picking stocks and companies for investment, Warren Buffett amassed one of the epochal fortunes of the twentieth century--an astounding net worth of $10 billion, and counting. His awesome investment record has made him a cult figure popularly known for his seeming contradictions: a billionaire who has a modest lifestyle, a phenomenally successful investor who eschews the revolving-door trading of modern Wall Street, a brilliant dealmaker who cultivates a homespun aura.
Journalist Roger Lowenstein draws on three years of unprecedented access to Buffett's family, friends, and colleagues to provide the first definitive, inside account of the life and career of this American original. Buffett explains Buffett's' investment strategy--a long-term philosophy grounded in buying stock in companies that are undervalued on the market and hanging on until their worth invariably surfaces--and shows how it is a reflection of his inner self.

One of the BEST Books I've Ever Read.......2007-10-14
WOW! This is one of the best books I have ever read. How inspiring!!! I felt that I really got into the mind (the thinking) of this man through Lowensteins account. I felt like I learned a LOT about big business and investing even though there are no direct "lessons" or strategies taught in this book. It also validated the way I run my own business as far as making quick judgements based on my gut knowledge, having a hatred for wasteful reports, and a slew of other "common sense" approaches to business -- including old-fashioned TRUST between business partners. This book was also a HUGE eye-opener about big business CEOs and the "merger" mentality in the business world. I used to think that these folks were so smart and knew things I didn't know. It turns out that Buffet was often doing the OPPOSITE of these folks, and the book is quick to point out the fallacy of their ways. It was also an eye-opener as far as what a "shareholder" really IS (or should be) according to Buffet. It gives me hope, and I am now ready to start thinking about how to get to that first billion! ...now...if I can just get my hands on those past Bershire annual reports...
You can't copy an artist.......2007-09-01
Reading this account of Warren Buffet, I am in awe of this man's intellect and aptitude for what he has spent his life doing. Investing. You will soon realize that any hopes of copying Buffet's strategy or system isn't possible for the "average Joe". It would be the same to think you could produce an outcome exactly like Michaelangelo or Rembrandt-it can't be done.
Buffett biography.......2007-08-04
I've found that if one has a handle on money, most everything else in life falls together. After reading this book, I put 90% of my savings in Berkshire Class B. 10 years ago. I tap dance everyday that I did. Oh, by the way, it's a great read. He was emotionally abused by his mother. Anything by Roger Lowenstein tells important money stories well.
Great work - but could have avoided few chapters .......2007-07-21
Roger has done a great job portraying the life of master investor, especially the way he has described each of Buffet's major takeovers. I was about to give 5 stars, but at last moment I changed my mind to 4 stars because a few chapters I seem were out of context, especially the ones that describe more about his children and the ones that are totally dedicated to Salomon brothers. I guess these chapters seemed a liitle bit out of context.

Its a great book !.......1999-11-02
The book is sensational! It is very well written, it describes the acrobatic maneuvers accurately and offers a lot of information, technical and historical datas about the planes. It is really indispensable for all those that love aerial acrobatics, pilots or not. To read this book is to be close to the reality of the championships of aerial acrobatics. A good clue, is to read the pilot's Diana Hakala deposition. For change of information on aerial acrobatics, please enter in contact with me Butiman@onda.com.br
A very good, well presented package of useful information.......1998-09-24
In line with the excellent quality that this entire series of books always maintains this is a very good, very informative, easy to understand text. It covers a whole range of subjects from describing the maneouvres to evaluation of different aircraft and a wealth of information on competition flying. I would recommend this book to all flyers, aerobatic or not.

Customer Reviews:
Good book for beginners.......2007-04-02
I've only just started aerobatics and this book seems a good companion to the practical aspects of learning the moves. In particular, the sections on 'what can go wrong' with each manoeuvre helped to build my confidence. This seems a modern and up to date text.
Great Eentry-Level Aerobatics Text.......1998-05-09
Good textbook-style intro to aerobatic flight. It's a little light on the physics involved, but gives thorough step-by-step descriptions (and matching pictures) for each maneuver. Great for aspiring aerobats, RC flyers, or pilots interested in unusual attitude recovery techniques. I will be buying the advanced aerobatics text by the same authors.
Good primer for the beginner.......1996-12-09
This is a good all-round primer for the novice aerobatic pilot. It covers many areas, including which aircraft to train in and which to use as an advanced aerobatic pilot. Unfortunately almost nothing on glider aerobatics.

Book Description
Acclaimed worldwide as the most detailed and knowledgeable text about Aerobatics. This book takes the pilot from the basic maneuvers step by step through to the exacting standards required at World Championship level. Primarily for pilots, the book also makes light reading for enthusiasts and spectators.
Customer Reviews:
The best book on aerobatics, on a par with Stick and Rudder.......1998-12-31
Neil Williams was a British test pilot and aerobatic pilot with a rare gift of skill in both flying and writing. He was a World Champion of aerobatic competition. This book is the standard text on aerobatics, to be considered on a par with Langewiesche's Stick and Rudder and Robert Buck's Weather Flying. He writes with the authority and conciseness which can only come from absolute mastery of the subject, but also accomplishes conveying the finer points as well as the fundamentals of aerobatic flying to an inexperienced reader. It is also true that few accomplished aerobatic pilots can read this book without improving their knowledge in some way.
As well as the technical aspects of the technique of aerobatic flight, Williams also includes the human aspects, what it feels like, why pilots are drawn to it, giving an insight that non-pilots will enjoy.
The writing style is witty and interesting, with many anecdotes. It is not the kind of book that simply tells you push this and that will happen. If you understand this book, you will understand your airplane, regardless of its attitude.
Customer Reviews:
Best aerobatic book I've seen........2007-04-04
Covers everything from lesson one to competing at the highest level. Everything is well explained with good diagrams. It has made the rest of my aerobatic book collection redundant.
better aerobatics.......2006-07-27
very well written---not directed to any one interest group. Great book for advanced competitive pilot as well as beginner aerobatic student. Also more maneuvers that any other book I have seen.
All pilots should read this. Not just aerobats........2003-06-08
Every pilot, aerobatic or not, should read this. Alan doesn't just tell you how to fly the maneouvres but also why they need to be flown that way. The amount of information he provides regarding what the aircraft is doing during each maneouvre allows you to fully understand what is going on. This lets you really analyse how you fly the maneouvres yourself and thus how you can improve your own performance. Not just in terms of how to fly more accurate figures but also how to optimise energy use throughout each maneouvre.
I've been using the book during the past couple of weeks and it has made quite a difference to my sequences.
Its easily the best book out there. Highly recommended.
Better Aerobatics.......2003-06-08
At long last he`s done it! Having been nagged by many of us for some years, Alan Cassidy has finally committed to print what he has learnt from more than a decade's aerobatic coaching. Those of us who have benefited from his instruction are very familiar with Alan's lucid, articulate, and often entertaining style. Better Aerobatics is all this and much more. The book is a must whether novice or experienced aerobatic competitor, display pilot or instructor. It's a fairly weighty publication at close on 500 pages, but this is `no holds barred stuff`. You get the lot! From learning to develop basic co-ordination and handling skills, through to the intricacies of competing at Unlimited in a World Championship. No one in their right mind would deny that aerobatics can be a pretty dry subject. However, Alan manages to tiptoe the fine line between a detailed technical analysis of our sport, and light hearted anecdotal musings. For me it is his ability to find unique ways to illustrate his point that sets this book apart from the rest. Mueller may have made the first real attempt at a detailed analysis of aerobatic figures, but to date this publication is the final word.

Authors comment.......1997-04-10
Based on my 3000 hours instructing aerobatics in a Cessna Aerobat. The book was written as a project with Cessna Aircraft in 1969 and updated with each printing. I'm the chief (and only) instructor of the world's smallest aerobatic school--one airplane/one instructor/one comfort bag
Book Description
Gain a clear understanding of the important aspects that are essential for safe and successful aerobatic glider flying. For use in conjunction with aerobatic instruction, this volume deals with safety considerations, flight envelopes, and glider design. Describes in general terms how to fly commonly encountered maneuvers, from standard level aerobatics to advanced flying. Includes a step-by-step guide to construction flight envelopes for various gliders.

A welcome addition to aerobatic literature.......2005-03-24
There are more than a few books on powered aerobatics, but - to the best of my knowledge - this is one of only two dealing with the specialized subject of saiplane aerobatics. Profusely illustrated with b&w photographs and helpful diagrams, the book is an excellent and thorough introduction to the sport. My only criticism is the absence of any commentary on the only two aerobatic gliders in current production, namely the SZD-59 Acro and the DG 303 Elan Acro.

Book Description
This primer on aerobatic flight instruction begins with detailed definitions of aerobatic flight terminology and provides a directory of the particular flight maneuvers that are considered to be aerobatic. The specific aerodynamics at work in each maneuver and how the maneuver will feel to the pilot are explained, and detailed illustrations map out how to execute each move. In addition, advice on the body's physiological reaction to the abrupt changes of direction and orientation in aerobatic flight and how to deal with any problematic reactions is provided.

Solid Material From A Master Aviator.......2007-09-01
Art is the real deal, the manual is quite good. Perhaps the presentation is a little dated/corny, but that does not detract from the valuable contents. I make it a point to at least look at anything Art Medore has written or taped, and so far I have not be disappointed.
