How to Stay Lovers for Life is "an optimistic relationship manual designed to help you from the day you meet through the first seven years of your marriage (or any serious, committed, long-term relationship)...." From the first page, author Sharyn Wolf jumps undauntedly into resolving the conflicts that can taint, and even ruin, love relationships. Wolf writes with a disarming sense of humor and a wealth of knowledge gleaned from her years of experience as a marriage counselor, and includes true-life vignettes that offer insights into healthy, thriving relationships. With chapters such as "I Want to End Our Fights," "I Have Problems That I Want to Change," and "I Want to Work on Our Sex Life," help for specific problems is concise and easy to find. How to Stay Lovers for Life eschews psychobabble and stays in the realm of the ultrapersonal, providing great tips for avoiding emotional button pushing, evaluating your timing, and refraining from using the dreaded "Let's talk" phrase--and it even includes racy tips for spicing up your sex life. Wolf says that when you're faced with painful conflict in relationships, it's important to remember that it happens in every partnership, and it's "how you handle these feelings when they occur that is the difference between a golden anniversary and alimony." --Jhana Bach

Book Description
Risk Intelligence gives executives and business managers a simple mental model and simple tools to manage these risks. According to the author's model, risks fall into two categories: knowable and therefore learnable, and unknowable and therefore difficult to prepare for.The book not only shows readers how to analyse their knowable risks but helps them to appreciate the quality and utility of their own analysis. As it turns out, some people have a higher risk IQ than others and therefore analyse and manage risks more effectively. This book helps people of all risk aptitudes to assess and improve their risk IQs.

Intelligence Analysis and Assessment (Studies in Intelligence Series)
David Charters Manufacturer: Routledge ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 0714642495 |
Book Description
Of the many functions carried out by intelligence agencies, analysis and assessment has received comparatively little scholarly attention. In October 1994 the Canadian Association for Security and Intelligence Studies (CASIS) and the Intelligence Section of the International Studies Association (ISA) attended to this deficit by holding a special international conference on the subject in Ottawa. This volume is the product of that conference. The essays may be divided into four self-contained sets. The first examines critically the assessment systems now in place in Britain, the USA, Germany and Australia. The second looks at the bureaucratic dynamics of analysis and assessment. The changing ground that intelligence is currently experiencing is the focus of the third section. Finally, the volume considers the impact of new technologies and modes of communication on intelligence gathering and analysis.

Motivation and Personality: Handbook of Thematic Content Analysis
Manufacturer: Cambridge University Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 052140052X |
Book Description
Motivation and Personality is the first book to be devoted primarily to content analysis systems for assessment of characteristics of the individuals, groups, or historical periods that create verbal materials. Part I discusses general issues including the merits of content analysis and its relation to other contemporary methods of motivation and personality assessment, the determinants of thematic apperception and the use of thematic methods in survey research and for the analysis of archival and naturally-occurring verbal materials. Part II presents 14 different coding manuals, each with an introductory chapter, and Part III deals with methodological considerations and materials for learning how to obtain and code verbal materials. The volume will serve as a handbook for researchers who wish to use content analytic methods for research in personology, experimental psychology, or social science, and also as a reference work providing information about content analytic measures of motives for achievement, affiliation, intimacy, and power, as well as measures of personal causation, conceptual complexity, uncertainty orientation, explanatory style, psychological stances toward the environment, self-definition, and responsibility. The various systems, research regarding the background of the systems, and practice materials are included to create a book that is both reference and handbook.

Applying Probabilistic Risk Assessment and Decision Analysis Techniques to Avoid Excessive Remedial Investigation Costs
Manufacturer: Storming Media ProductGroup: Book Binding: Spiral-bound ASIN: 1423573455 |
Product Description
This is a AIR FORCE INST OF TECH WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB OH report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A908023. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The majority of remediation resources have been consumed by costly and lengthy remedial investigation studies to characterize the human health risk. Unable to deal directly with the uncertainty resulting from the convolution of the uncertainties in a multitude of variables, and heavily persuaded by the liabilities, decision makers and regulators have relied on conservative assumptions and more studies to take appropriate actions. The main objective of this research is to provide tools and techniques to aid risk analysts in determining whether it would be beneficial to gather additional information or whether the decision to take an appropriate action can be made without further investigation. This research provides some probabilistic risk assessment and decision analysis techniques to avoid using simple conservative assumptions to deal with the complex uncertainties to evaluate the value of information of additional studies in the complex remediation decision process. The methodologies in this research were tested on Operable Unit 2, Wright- Patterson AFB, Ohio, and Site 4, Air Force Plant 44, Arizona.

Competitive Intelligence: How To Acquire & Use Strategic Intelligence & Counterintelligence (Management Briefings Executive Series)
Douglas Burnhardt Manufacturer: Financial Times Management ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0273659286 |
Book Description
What do you really know about your competitors, and potential competitors? What are the real threats your business faces in the next two years? What do your competitors know about you, how did they find out about it and how can you stop them finding out more? In many ways the challenges and risks faced by modern managers are not that different from those which governments deal with. But, whereas political decision-makers have long relied upon their intelligence agencies to guide, or at least clarify, their thinking with evidence and analysis, most executives have little or no experience with the process or products of intelligence.Managers for the most part operate in an intelligence vacuum, relying upon their personal networks of information sources and, more dangerously, a wide array of unchallenged assumptions about their companies, their industries, and their markets. Rarely do you meet a manager able to answer the questions: What are your competitors trying to discover about you? And how are they doing it?
This report will equip managers with the necessary frameworks to:
o Develop a clear understanding of the role and value of intelligence in all elements of the strategy process of their organizations
o Initiate the creation or upgrading of in-house intelligence and counterintelligence programmes
o Identify key intelligence topics
o Use intelligence 'products' to minimize risk and achieve competitive advantage
o Distinguish between tactical and strategic intelligence, and in turn better appreciate the critical differences between operational effectiveness and strategic positioning

Book Description
Any choice with a significant impact on the environment should, in principle, be the outcome of a political process reflecting the social preferences of everyone involved. Unfortunately, this ideal procedure requires a level of time and money that does not justify its application for planning each specific intervention. Different methods, mainly derived from traditional investment analyses, have been proposed for providing a rational basis for environmental decisions that cannot be analysed through a public debate. These methods have proved inadequate, however, and are being replaced by Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) as a less formal, but more applicable, method of incorporating environmental considerations in the decision process. Though the interpretation of EIA differs among various national and regional laws, it is now widely accepted as a potentially useful aid and is becoming a routine procedure for environmental planning and manag

Multi-State System Reliability: Assessment, Optimization and Applications (Series on Quality, Reliability and Engineering Statistics, 6)
Anatoly Lisnianski , and Gregory Levitin Manufacturer: World Scientific Pub Co Inc ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 9812383069 |
Book Description
Most books on reliability theory are devoted to traditional binary reliability models allowing for only two possible states for a system and its components: perfect functionality and complete failure. However, many real-world systems are composed of multi-state components, which have different performance levels and several failure modes with various effects on the entire system performance (degradation). Such systems are called Multi-State Systems (MSS). The examples of MSS are power systems where the component performance is characterized by the generating capacity, computer systems where the component performance is characterized by the data processing speed, communication systems, etc. This book is the first to be devoted to Multi-State System (MSS) reliability analysis and optimization. It provides a historical overview of the field, presents basic concepts of MSS, defines MSS reliability measures, and systematically describes the tools for MSS reliability assessment and optimization. Basic methods for MSS reliability assessment, such as a Boolean methods extension, basic random process methods (both Markov and semi-Markov) and universal generating function models, are systematically studied. A universal genetic algorithm optimization technique and all details of its application are described. All the methods are illustrated by numerical examples. The book also contains many examples of application of reliability assessment and optimization methods to real engineering problems.
The aim of this book is to give a comprehensive, up-to-date presentation of MSS reliability theory based on modern advances in this field and provide a theoretical summary and examples of engineering applications to a variety of technical problems. From this point of view the book bridges the gap between theoretical advances and practical reliability engineering

Quantifying Environmental Impact Assessments Using Fuzzy Logic (Springer Series on Environmental Management)
Richard B. Shepard Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0387243984 |
Book Description
Environmental impact assessments are required for a wide-range of projects throughout the world. These assessments have increasing involved complex, political decision-making and incorporated values and beliefs of both stakeholders and interested parties. However, the results are often ineffective because values and beliefs are not easily quantifiable, and decisions are considered subjective. This analysis recognizes these problems and proposes practical methods based on fuzzy logic that will enable people preparing assessments to define terms and quantify opinions and input so that they are agreed upon by all involved parties. Fuzzy logic also quantifies the complex environmental, economic and social conditions that are present and are predicted by project alternatives. The author places special emphasis on the types of issues that frequently arise in NEPA environmental assessments and environmental impact statements and in similar regulations that are used in jurisdictions regionally and internationally. The new methods are intended to reduce the time and cost of assessments, while producing justifiable results. First, issues related to current environmental impact assessment methods are discussed. Then the book discusses how lessons learned from computational intelligence can address these problems. It describes how a systematic, logical approach to environmental assessment can be applied to a variety of complex situations. Finally, the design and implementation of a more objective and powerful assessment is demonstrated through a worked example. Explanations of computational intelligence techniques and discussions of helpful software are intended to benefit those people actually preparing and using environmental assessments--in language that makes the process transparent and transferable to all types of systems.Books:
