Find Me: How Psychic Detectives from Around the World Have Banded Together to Find Missing People - Co-author of Find Me
This book had great exercises for new students, partners etc. I enjoyed using some of techniques in my classes.
Group Exercises.......2007-05-14
Most of the exercises seem to be designed for adolescent groups. It would have been nice to know that before purchasing. However, many are adaptable to adult groups, and are quite useful.
Pretty impressed.......2005-08-05
Just bought this book to use in groups and loaned it to a colleague of mine before I read it. He said that it was wonderful and that I should go ahead and find the time to read it. He was right, this book is going to be enormously useful to me.
Invaluable!.......2002-03-08
This guide provides a variety of exercises which add "flesh" to any group interaction. I used it daily when I worked as a rehabilitation skills therapist with mentally ill adults. The exercises provided a means to communicate, create trust, and build relationships. The exercises range from simple to elaborate and fit into many situations. This book is a great resource to use with children, adolescents, and in certain contexts with adults. It's a must-have for any therapist, counselor, teacher, or mentoring adult.
Very effective and enjoyable activites.......1999-10-07
SiriNam Khalsa's book never sits on my book shelf for more than a few days. I work with kids who need to practice a variety of social skills and exhibit low self-esteem. I find these exercises to be non-threatening and a real catalyst for insight and change. I highly recommend this book to all professionals in the helping field, teachers and counselors included. I'm looking forward to Volume II?!

Excellent for unloading childhood baggage!.......2007-03-09
This is a real must-have for anyone who is plagued with "should's" and "ought to's". Briggs will help you tease out critical self-talk from reality and change your whole perception of life. You will learn to take responsibility for your feelings and actions/reactions. Great treasure.
Profound insite and healing!.......2000-05-07
This incredible book has been a profound influence in my process of healing. I read it at the recommendation of a friend and have been grateful eversince. I have often found myself referring back to it's rich pages to refresh my mind with it's simple and sensible, yet profound insights. Dorothy uses a cluster of some of the psychological schools of thought. This allows for a more comprehensive view of the what and how of both self-esteem and the healing process. I found the intermittent summations of the "basic ideas" very helpful. I'm confident that each person who reads it with the intent to put to practice the exercises she provides would benefit immensely. I think that they can help accelerate the learning and healing process. Do put your heart into it! May you to reap in great abundance the healing and the wisdom that you seek.

Great book for those seeking to heal and change........1999-07-25
My friend used this book some 20 years ago to change his life. About 3 years ago, he told me about it and it changed my life. Now I'm letting everyone who I feel need help to know about this book.
I like to wonder in the bookstore and look for old , small books. Written decades ago, if they survived all these years and still stand on the bookshelf, there must be something great about them. Unfortunately you cannot do this on an Online bookstore. Hence this review.
Some good solid advice.......1997-10-25
While reading this book, I expected a little more. But after I finished it, I ended up using some of the advice to help heal a lot of post divorce pain. For that reason, I would recommend it to anyone looking to advance past what self blame and low self esteem can do.
Book Description
You're no idiot, of course. You know there are moments when you have been creative, attractive, and even intelligent. Don't just stand there with your head in the sand! The Complete Idiot's Guide to Enhancing Self-Esteem shows you how to break through negativity, open yourself to risk and change, and move toward a richer and more integrated life. Not a well-written book.......2006-06-09
You have to be an idiot to keep reading this book. I couldn't get passed chapter 2 without thinking how juvenile this book sounds. There are better books out there. This is not one of them. Keep looking.
Enhancing? I think not........2005-10-12
Shortly after reading this book, I found myself longing for a warm bath and some razor blades.
Waste of 265 Pages.......2003-10-27
I bought this book hoping I'd at least find an ounce of motivation or a way to work on my view of myself. I was dead wrong.
The book ended up being a huge jumble of pop psychology and uninspirational quotes. It also asks you to write out past failures and successes, as if doing that would somehow show you how to work on things in the present and the future. It however, does not give you any information on how to work on the present. The book ends up being a quick self-evaluation, which with people with low self-esteem really isn't going to mean much. It also is too focused on how you, the reader, reacts to others. I thought this was SELF-esteem and not interpersonal relationship help.
A Complete Idiot's Guide to Writing a Review of this book.......2002-07-31
I am always wary of books that begin with the accolade of 'The Complete Idiot's Guide' as it suggests that those who buy such books, are, indeed complete idiots.
Not believing myself to be in this category but being in search of ways to boost morale and productivity and teamwork I bought this book after having flicked through and found the contents to be short and well illustrated with anecdotes, humour and other such features to make this appealing to even the most reluctant readers.
This book certainly has all of those things and at a basic level it does a useful job in highlighting a number of features which help in enhancing self-esteem. The book is clearly well meaning but misses it's target by a long way.
My understanding of what this book is meant to be is as a self-study workbook. To some extent it is but really does not go far enough to help those who suffer from lack of self-esteem. Let me give one very crucial example. The author cites S.W.O.T. analysis, the first being Strengths, the second being weakness. The reader is asked to list his or her greatest strengths and serious weaknesses. However, there is no guidance given as to how someone should determine those, and, given that those who lack self-esteem do not feel good about themselves to begin with, they will find it hard to list strengths and will feel that they have more than three weaknesses.
The book does serve as an introduction to the problem and does point the way to some exercises that can be done to assist in enhancing self-esteem. For anyone serious about tackling this problem this is not the book for them.
...or of course I could just be a complete idiot and have missed the point of this book alltogether. Hmmm
Not very helpful for raising self esteem.......2002-07-25
I found this book pretty much useless for boosting my self esteem. The advice given in the book was poor with silly, little quotes and poems. I felt that it was lacking good, hard research on low self esteem and how to improve one's self esteem. Unfortunately, there is nothing that I took away from the book to help me with that.

Customer Reviews:
Recommend for non-denominational spirituality.......1998-12-04
This book is simple and direct, but very rich. It provides new paths to thinking on each read. The insights here are wonderfully broad, crossing not only denominations but merging spiritual precepts across whole religions and finally leading to something many of us suspected all along--that maybe those things we were taught way back when were just plain wrong, bad interpretations we were right to feel uncomfortable accepting. Wilcox lets us know there are many very generous ways to approach spirituality and its potential comforts and guidance, without accepting the gendered politics in which it has traditionally been embedded.
My 11-year-old son has questioned the "in Christ's name" precepts pushed on him in violation of his own developing sense of morality, and as he raises his questions, we have enjoyed reading together and discussing pieces of this fine book; Wilcox has given us some common ground with which to face our discontent with traditional American religion, while also providing us with a new awareness of the wonders of a shared spirituality free of the entrenched, and not necessarily correct, interpretations.
It's an eye-opener, a comfort, and good for both the brain and the heart.

Great book for educators and others in helping professions.......1999-05-29
Diane Frey and C. Jesse Carlock really seem to understand low self-esteem and the realistic steps to improving self-esteem. Thier 4 phase approach provides a low-risk, high-support environment to learn and grow. Activities are age-group and group size rated for maximum benefit. Some activities seem lost in context and a little odd. It is best used with accompanying workbook and affirmation guide, also by these authors.

Yet another complete reference library in one book........2007-05-04
Conway's All the World's Fighting Ships 1922-1946 is the third in a series of 4 books which, as the title suggests, lists all the worlds fighting ships built during the period in question. Initially, these were post-WW1 years in which some countries favoured disarmament whilst others harboured expansionist plans. This was also a time when the Aircraft Carrier would totally eclipse the mighty Battleship as "King of the Seas." Eventually, the advent of WW2 and the way in which the USA entered that war added a whole new dimension to warship design and production.
Conway Maritime Press are well known for their factual books on ships - especially warships, in which they provide the finest technical documentation. "All the World's Fighting Ships 1922-1946" is hard-back measuring 12½" x 8¾" with 456 pages of detailed and factual information. After a brief foreword and an explanation of abbreviations used, the navies of the world are listed by country in order of their size and importance at the beginning of the period in question - i.e. Great Britain and Empire Forces, USA, Japan, Germany, etc and continuing right down to the world's smallest navies from the Middle East, Far East and Latin America. Each country's ships are then displayed by "class" commencing with the largest capital ships and progressing all the way down to the smallest torpedo boats (or whatever) with the oldest vessels mentioned first. For each class there is one or more of those profile line drawings which have become Conway's trademark. These are followed by all the usual technical details such as; Displacement, dimensions, machinery, armour, armament and complement followed by the names of each ship within that class - it's builder, date laid down, date completed and fate. These are accompanied by a very "readable" text from which we learn of the political intrigue of the day, variations between vessels, refits, new equipment, whatever defects or other problems beset either the class or a specific ship and a short résumé of the fate of each vessel.
Altogether, the book is well illustrated with an excellent selection of historic black and white original photographs throughout with at least one picture on almost every page.
In summary, this is an excellent technical work of reference and one which will continue to stand the test of time. Put another way, this is one of those books you will wish you had bought - after it becomes out of print.
NM
Conways all way........2007-03-30
The best book of it's type. While Jane's for the same general period is a collection of period work, complete with incorrect data used at the time, Conway's is an accurate library of the warships of the day.
All the World's Statistics.......2001-11-11
I use my Conway's a lot because it covers a wide scope, but it continues to irk me. As I see it, the book pretends to describe ships by laying out statistics and dates whatever else can be quantified in numbers; but in the end it fails to present a real-world assessment of anything. I understand that no book can be all things to all readers, but Conway's becomes a generator of misunderstanding when it spits out, for example, measurements of armor thickness, tempting the reader to think this is what determines how well a ship is protected. Such superficiality does more harm than good. But once the reader understands that Conway's is merely a starting point for research, it becomes a useful (if expensive) tool.
An excellent reference.......2000-02-17
This is an excellent summary reference on all the navies existing in the period covered by the book. Every nation is dealt with in detail as regard all its ships built in this period, with an historical and technical introduction to the navy itself and a summary description of all the warship classes; this description comprises a summary of the characteristics of every class, a list (only for capital ships and cruisers) of the class' ships with the dates of building and the final fate, and a brief text description of some interesting aspects and of the operation life. Almost every class is provided with a photograph or a drawing. The book is ideal for giving a quite detailed overview of the situation of every navy in the twenty five years period covered by this work. The only weakness I can find is that the ships built preceding the year 1922 are not described in full detail, but the reader is referred to the other books of this serie (the whole serie is composed by four book covering different periods): maybe a way to sell some more copies of the other books.
Excellant source for text data on the somwhat obscure........1999-04-01
What I appreciate the most about this book is the extensive and well researched text data on such vessel types as seaplane tenders, and the like, which have been virtualy ignored in the naval history press prior to this book. Vessel linage of more obscure types as are included and explained. If like myself, you have read most of what there is on the major combatants, which are included, and yet you want further information on the lesser known, yet vital 'other types' that were just as important in the scheme of the navies of the second world war. Then this is your book.
