Book Description
Julie is a happy little girl who lives in Paris, but she wishes she could walk in a country garden. Julie is pleased when her mother decides to take her to visit the most wonderful garden in the world, owned by a great friend of the family. They arrive at their destination, and for this little girl it is like walking in a dreamy world where twisting plants grow as tall as trees. When Julie's dog runs away, she asks the gardener to help find her pet, and soon she and the gardener are friends. But this amiable, bearded old man is a very unusual gardener, for not only does he cultivate his many plants, he also paints beautiful pictures of them. Julie has made a friend of the great impressionist painter, Claude Monet. Based on a true story about the daughter of another fine artist, Berthe Morisot, this charmingly illustrated picture book includes reproductions by author-illustrator Laurance Anholt of a famous waterlilies painting, which Monet completed in his garden at Giverny, a few miles from Paris.

Customer Reviews:
nice book on magickal gardening.......2006-01-16
My parents recently moved into a house on a small plot of land, a bit of a garden in front and some in back. What I wanted to find, and am still looking for, is a book to help me magically protect the house and its dwellers by using plants and plant magic, as well as to boost prosperity, blessings, hapiness and health of people living on the land. Although this book covers garden as sacred space and theme gardening (elemental garden, medicinal, seasonal garden), as well as plants for magic and lunar gardening, it does not help with my primary gardening objective.
One of the best introductory books on garden magic .......2005-12-13
It includes many useful information about the greenery and gives some tips for the ones that does not have a "real garden" but a small balcony as well!
Go for the (Green) Gold.......2005-10-28
Real Witches. Real power. That is the premise of Kate West's new book, The Real Witches' Garden. In this book, like the others in the Real Witches' series Ms. West delves deeply into all the ways to bring your practice into focus using a garden. She states that since we are following a nature-based religion, we might as well do our rituals in nature. Makes sense to me.
Now, you apartment dwellers don't go skipping over this book. There are gardens for the very large area as well as for the non-existent outdoor space. Something for everyone, no matter the size of your space or property. And you might even grow that green thumb you never knew you had.
In 12 easy to digest chapters, we learn how to make and celebrate gardens of all sorts. We are taught about planning for things like pets and children. There are gardens with a focus on the Lady and Lord, the Elements, the Seasons, magic or healing.
Each chapter contains numerous rituals to plant and celebrate in the garden's focus. Gizmos and doodads are kept to a minimum, so costs are not a big deterrent in achieving one with the great outdoors.
While I enjoyed this book and found it interesting, the writing style took some getting used to, probably because the author is from the UK. This is an excellent book for a beginner either to the Craft or to gardening. Especially useful are the lists of correspondences in the book, as well as the chapter entitled "Take it from here" that lists further reading and resources.
I was also pleased with the appendix explaining what witchcraft really is. It included brief paragraphs on our beliefs, something that is usually overlooked in many witchcraft books. All in all this is nice, handy book to add to your spiritual library.
W. Lyon Martin Author/Illustrator of "An Ordinary Girl, A Magical Child"
Use this book for developing the "green" section of your BOS.......2004-10-20
While it does include helpful growing advice it isn't a how to book on gardening. Which is good because the focus is on the beautiful rituals which make up a good portion of the content. Besides those for growing healthy plants and dedicating your garden as sacred space, the author has included very special ones for the Sabbats that really highlight the connection of nature and Wicca. I thought the one for Mabon was particularly good in the way she ties all the elements as well as the God and Goddess into the tending of the garden.
Because of the rituals, ideas for laying out gardens in witchy styles and the fairly extensive list of plant correspondences this book goes into my top ten list of most often referred to books.
The Ultimate Green Witches Guide.......2004-03-17
For anyone who is interested in both Witchcraft and magical gardening this is the book for you. Kate West explains in her usual clear style how to grow herbs to use in your own spells or herbal remedies. She details the creation of your own sacred space within your garden, where you can truly meet the Gods and Goddesses on your home ground.
A great book highly recommended

Through the Magical Path of the Labyrinth.......2003-10-29
This last book by Jeff Saward, the well-known photographer and labyrinth historian, is a well illustrated and documented work based on his research on the field since the 1980s.
Through an extensive historical analysis of such an archetypal symbol - from the pre-historic Spanish petroglyph labyrinths to the modern revival - the author shows and describes almost all the labyrinths known up to the moment.
Although with some lacks (especially on literary labyrinths) this book, with its catalogue of the worldwide known labyrinths - the most comprehensive list ever since - is a useful (and an indispensable) tool to the beginner and the expert alike.

Excellent interactive book for little girls!.......2006-09-01
My daughter got this book about 3 years ago when she was 2. She never really played with it much because she was still too young to be interested.
When she turned 4 she started really playing with this book almost daily. She is now 5 and the book is worn but still in pretty good playing conditon. My daughter and her little girlfriends love to play with it whenever they are here.
It is a great interactive book and a lot of fun for girls ages 4-7. Heck my oldest (who is now 8) still likes to play with it at times.
I highly recommend this book to help your childs imagination sore to new heights!

The Amazing Book of Mazes
ASIN: 1840005734 |
Book Description
Winding your way through a maze or a labyrinth: two symbolic journeys, both rooted in myth and mystery. After looking at the legends and evolution of the two kinds of complex, twisting paths, Jeff Saward considers how today’s land artists and garden designers have recreated labyrinths and the new “craze” for mazes—from maize mazes and mirror mazes to wood and water mazes and simple garden turf mazes. This overview captures their visual excitement, power to challenge, and unique inspiration.

Book Description
The Magical Garden is a curious little book of magic, charms, spells, and bits of traditional and historical lore from and for magical gardens and the curious gardeners who tend to them. What gardener would not want to know the flower they were born under, the traditional magical meanings of bells and chimes, or the healing power of geraniums' Many of these nuggets of wisdom and magic have been handed down from Sophia's grandparents, who extensively used herbs and such in their psychic work. Avid gardener and ancient historian Denny Sargent collected much of the information included here from a wide variety of traditional sources. Roman, Celt, Norse, and Japanese gardeners all believed in garden magic, and some of their most fascinating traditions, spells, and charms are contained in this wonderful little book. In addition to the garden, magical plants, birds, insects, the yard, and the weather are also addressed. Other interesting lore includes: *Garden sprites, fairies, and elves *Ancient and magical ways for empowering the garden by planting certain plants in special places *Traditions for celebrating festivals in the garden, ways of using garden plants for protection, and techniques for invoking positive energy with treesHelpful spells include: *Spells to bless a new bed or garden*Charm to bring prosperity to a carefully planted garden*Spell to create natural amulets and talismans from common garden plants*Garden blessings to gain true love

An inspiring book--especially for little girls.......1998-10-30
As a mother of two little girls, over and over again I have to read to them Miranda's Magic Garden. Both love the story, the illustrations and the audio that goes withit. Riding in the car, all of us sing "The march of the sunflowers."
A Great Book For Children.......1998-09-26
This is a wonderfully written children's book with very vibrant and beautiful illustrations. It gives kids of all ages the power to believe that dreams can come true
A self-confidence builder, especially for girls.......1997-06-24
This is certainly one of the most inspiring children's books I have read. As a father of a four year-old girl, I have been asked to read and re-read this book over and over again! The illustrations are marvellous, with a mystical quality that inspires imagination and fantasy. The words touch my daughter in a way most other children's books do not. Not since the Rainbow Fish has my daughter been so impressed with a book and with a story. A must-read, especially for little girls

Book Description
Come into the garden and hear a story! Children will delight in this charming collection of fables featuring plants and animals often seen in Hawai`i gardens. A lone orchid finds friendship among roses; a kind albatross teaches a young frog about the joy of discovery; two greedy mynahs learn about sharing; a lazy blue ginger flower is encouraged to blossom. As a good fable should, each of these wondrous tales offers a valuable lesson at the end---but it's one that goes down with a smile. Here are ten stories that will entertain and guide young and old.

Completely Wonderful.......2004-05-16
Luscious illustrations. Engaging stories, with fun characters and playful dialogue. Meaningful lessons about life at each story's conclusion. And it has educational information about plants and animals. I enjoy it as much as my children. We highly recommend this book.
Charming fables with gorgeous illustrations........1999-06-14
Animals and plants from a Hawaiian garden teach morals (i.e. appreciate differences, vanity is harmful, sharing is good for your soul). Beautiful full-page illustrations of lush gardens. Note section includes scientific information about the plants and animals. An attractive art book that uses humor and poetry to teach lessons for living. Adults and children will enjoy this book!

Enchanting...No Doubt About It.......2001-12-08
This beautifully crafted book has silky pages and a beautiful dustjacket. It is lavishly illustrated with about 50% Pre-Raphaelite paintings and the other 50% botanical paintings by Benjamin Perkins. The Pre-Raphaelite works are exquisite choices, really enhance the text and make it seem like a delicious indulgence in pleasure. The botanical works are detailed and skillfully rendered and are also wonderful choices that enrich the text. The borders of the pages are decorated as well. The text includes chapters on fairies and angels in the garden, tree spirits and fairy trees, flowers and the feminine spirit, and calling a unicorn into the garden. It is atmospheric and lyrical and sprinkled with whimsy and at the same time it is serious and contemplative. There is much lore and folk wisdom here. It encourages a multi-dimensional relationship with gardens and is filled with healing, magic and beauty as all gardens are. I highly recommend it.
A beautiful little book..........2001-09-08
This is a beautifully produced book with gorgeous paintings pictured amidst uplifting prose about the magic and healing of gardening.
Great gift for the gardener who is in to angels, etc. I bought it for my mother.
Elegant and Enchanting.......2000-03-28
This book is pure enchantment. The color plates of the paintings of the Pre-Raphaelites are reason enough to have this book. Discussions of angels and angel meditiation, fairy spells and fairy trees as well as flower healing just begin to touch on the wonders included in this book. How can this book be out of print! It is one of my favorites.I haven't found this information in other book. Its like a beloved fairy tale book of childhood to take out on rainy days or even on sunny ones to sit with under a shade tree and call up the magical powers of nature. Its gorgeous and not be missed.

Good But Missing a Few Things.......2003-08-21
What's there is great! What is missing is too important. This guide has a vast variety of foods listed, and covers some bases other books do not. What is missing is too important - there are no listings for Cholesterol or Good and Bad Fats. It is too important to the diabetic dieter or to any dieter to know these things! I found the book informative - and generally useless beyond basic information found in other books.
A great buy!.......2003-04-18
I have had this book for about a week and it has been the most useful out of MANY calorie counter books I have. It does not list Protein for many foods other than restaurant foods, but is awesome for everything else. I have found 90% of the items I wanted quickly and easily. The restaurant section contains mini-lists of their food offerings, but at least shows some good reference points. I highly recommend this for anyone that is having trouble finding a calorie counting book they like!
Can't Review.......2003-04-12
I would give a review for this item if I could. But the person gave me a refund for the book so I can't review it. Sorry.
12 Calories for a Teaspoon of Nutmeg!.......2002-12-05
What a gem "The Doctors Pocket Calorie, Fat & Carbohydrate Counter" is!
This purse-sized book puts honesty into eating.
Essentially, it is a group of lists. You'll see the product name, and in three columns to the right of it, how many calories, fat and carbohydrates. The strength resides in its thoroughness. It seem as if the editors came in my neighborhood grocery store and took notes, cataloguing these stats from every item. There is even a calorie count for spices (a teaspoon of nutmeg has 12 calories!), as well as alcohol (you'll find your favorites brands, plus a general list).
There is a section on restaurants in general. Presuming, for example, red beans and rice is pretty much the same anywhere, we learn we'll be eating about 280 calories.
Disheartening is the restaurant chain section, from Applebee's to Zantiago. I was pleased to see how Boston Market did, but I see the stuffing and gravy on their turkey meal I love costs me an additional 430 calories.
There are some nutritional sections, explaining the fundamentals of a good diet, what fiber is all about and some discussion of sodium.
It is all very handy, and so I fully recommend "The Doctors Pocket Calorie, Fat & Carbohydrate Counter."

The best!.......2002-12-03
I have bought more than half a dozen calorie, fat & carbohydrate count books. This one is the best. Small in size, and will fit in pants pocket, jacket, or purse. Extensive listings of foods. Before I bought this book, I thought it mostly covered fast food chains. Not so. It also includes info on the ingredients basic to many home recipes. I've found the info I needed about table sugar, flour, oils, etc., which allows me to convert many of my old favorite recipes into low fat, low carbohydrate dishes. Also included are concise references to valuable diabetes, weight loss, exercise, and cholesterol information.
