Book Description

Bing Bunny is a lovable, feisty preschool character created by Ted Dewan, who was short-listed for the Kate Greenaway Medal for illustration. Bing Bunny tackles preschool challenges such as getting dressed, eating breakfast, and going to the park in his own charming style—and always with a sense of humor. In an exciting new illustration style for Dewan, Bing Bunny has a freshness and friendliness that is both appealing and different, and sure to be a hit with toddlers and preschoolers.

Bing: Paint Day is a celebration of color, paint, making pictures, and making a mess! Painting pictures—it’s a Bing thing!

5 out of 5 stars Crazy about Bing!.......2007-02-14

My 2 year old is crazy about Bing Bunny and the adorable Flop! The stories are so appropriate and appeal directly to the toddler mind; calling to attention all the things that toddlers' notice. The crisis concerning the loss of Flop in Bing Bed Time is especially important: one cannot go to bed without Flop! (or in our case, Dee). We plan to purchase all the books. Great quality and excellent illustrations!

5 out of 5 stars My little boy can't get enough of Bing.......2006-05-04

I wish Bing were as popular in America as Barney is. These books are a hoot and my son just can't get enough of them. I checked all 8 out from the library and had to end up buying them.

Bing is a bunny who interacts with his stuffed animal Flop. The books show Bing learning colors, foods, potty training, etc., all in the course of a day.

Adults will enjoy the '60s vibe of the cars, houses and furniture in the books.

Maybe an animated Bing show in America will make these books as popular as they deserve to be.

4 out of 5 stars We love the Bing Books!.......2005-07-28

my son loves reading the Bing and Flop books. His favorite is the night time book. teaching him our bedtime routine is so much easier. the colors and shapes are simple and easy to understand.

5 out of 5 stars Love it!.......2005-02-25

My daughter Kylie, now 2 1/2...LOVES! LOVES! LOVES! the Bing series! She now "reads" the stories to us since she has memorized them all!

5 out of 5 stars Bing's the best!.......2004-12-10

The Bing Bunny books appeal to both my 4-year-old and my 1-year-old. They're simple in format and style but manage to ably relay the oh-so-important-for-kids message that it's okay to make mistakes. "Paint Day" is held together by the repeated refrain of, "Don't spill the water, Bing!" Of course, he does eventually spill that water, but it's okay - it's a Bing thing. In "Bing Gets Dressed", Bing labors to get himself all dressed and then wets his pants. It's a sweet and accepting message for little kids who do make mistakes and need to hear that these things happen. We all love Bing - one read and you just can't help it.

Book Description

In recent years a new generation of artists and designers has discovered that garden plants - from moss and grass to fullgrown trees - can become astonishing works of living sculpture. Iconoclast garden designer Paul Cooper has gathered together the best examples of this exciting new art form while overturning many preconceptions about what is possible in the context of both gardening and art, showing that every garden has the potential to include dramatic and lasting sculpture.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing! Incredible! Awe inspiring!.......2005-10-18

The incredible living scuptures in this book range from enormous to small, from one-of-a-kind to I-could-do-that. Giant moss covered stone sculptures lying on the forest floor were wonderful but the best part of the book is page 82 - the sod furniture. The book says sod furniture (for outdoors, obviously) has been used since the 13th century. I can't wait to try my own. This is an amazing book that any gardener or artist would love.

    Book Description

Every material has an active presence and every material is susceptible to change. The task of the sculptor is to understand the natural properties of a chosen material, to know in the process of creation how best to work with, or against, its characteristics. In this generously illustrated studio manual, sculptor Oliver Andrews takes a new approach to sculpture, focusing on how the innate assertiveness of materials affects the complex act of making a sculpture.

    Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Good, but dated.......2001-11-16

The good news is that this is probably the best book available on the materials of sculpture. The bad new is that it was written twenty years ago. (This paperback edition may have been published in 1988, but AFAIK, the text was unchanged from the original 1983 version.)

If you are interested in traditional forms, then this book probably covers everything you need. But if you want information on any materials and/or techniques that came into use post-1970's, you're out of luck. Plastics are a good example: urethane and silicone molding rubbers are given a cursory mention, even though they are quite common now. I don't think polyurethane casting resins (Por-a-kast, Poly 15, etc.) or polyurethane glues (Gorilla Glue, ProBond, etc.) are mentioned at all.

The wood section is surprisingly thin, with a bias toward subtractive methods (carving), even though wood construction is as common--if not more common--in contemporary work.

While there are plenty of photos (all black and white) of classic sculptures, there are a lot of unbelievably bad pieces illustrated--probably chosen for their materials rather than quality. Some are downright hideous.

This is a good resource, but be aware that it is no longer comprehensive.

5 out of 5 stars supurb book that covers both modern and antique materials.......1998-08-01

This is a supurb reference book for a working sculptor. It covers stone and wood carving, as well as most major 20th century materials, from plastics to masonry to metal fabrication techniques. Nothing on fabrics or paper though. The illustrations are exciting and fairly thorough, with an emphasis is on innovative work. This is the one book I would want to take with me if shipwrecked on a desert island!

    Book Description

Bonsai pays tribute to the artistry and design behind these fascinating miniature trees. The text compares the ancient art of bonsai to the traditional arts and focuses on the specific design elements of the bonsai--the roots, trunk, branches, foliage, and container--and discusses how bonsai artists manipulate these elements for a specific effect. Unlike the traditional arts, bonsai requires working with material that is alive and ever-changing, presenting unique challenges and rewards.

Featured are photographs from the most highly-regarded bonsai artists throughout the world. The bonsai photographed are not only the most popular pine, juniper, elm, and boxwood, but also the more exotic or colorful rhododendron, crabapple, wisteria, and bougainvillea. A useful reference section provides a list of public bonsai collections worlds.

    Customer Reviews:

    4 out of 5 stars Beautiful pictures............2004-10-09

Simply elegant and inspiring pictures are captured within the pages of this book. The fan of simple, straightforward, bonsai designs that reflect nature, will be quite happy with the selected works of art. Also, the admirer of the more complex and fantastic manipulations of the trees will be pleased.

The writing throughout the book, on the other hand, leaves much to be desired if one is interested in learning any how-to tips. I was able to look through and read sections of this book before I bought it, and was aware that there was little information or substance to it. I purchased it for its pictures, nothing else. If you want to know how to grow bonsai, buy another book. If you want inspiration and pretty pictures, this book will fulfill your needs.

5 out of 5 stars The Art of the Bonsai.......2001-06-05

First of all, this book is beautiful: from the trees in it (a truly amazing array, photographed simply to highlight the beauty of the bonsai) right down to the paper it's printed on, the book itself is a work of art. Wonderful design, good captions, and good color, too. An homage to the art of bonsai, and indeed a bonsai-lover's must-have for its beauty alone.

Second of all, I actually liked the text. It's not a basic how-to or a boring dense history- it focuses instead on the philosophy and, again, the art of bonsai. Just reading the book is calming.

Illuminating text and stunning photographs bring together the imagery, historical placement, and background of the eight surviving statues of the Lohans, the legendary disciples of the Buddha. These ceramic statues, discovered by pirates in a secluded shrine cave and brought to the Peking art market in 1913, are renderings of the Buddha's direct disciples, the first practitioners to experience the fruit of his path. This highly original text sheds light on meditation statues that have long remained in the shadow of antique arts terminology.

        5 out of 5 stars Good Morning.......2005-09-13

My son ( 29 months ) loves this book! It was a gift from someone whose child dearly loved it. We have been reading it regularly for about a year. It is simple and the watercolor illustrations are sweet - a Mommy bear and baby bear saying good morning. We read this book over and over and my son loves to act out each page...
"its a good morning for a stetch " and he stands up and stretches. " and a smile" and he looks at me and smiles. This goes on for each of its six or seven pages. I am a softy to be sure but we have a great many books that we read and this is definitely one of the favorites we keep coming back to. Highy recommended!

        Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I'll Be With You Always.......2005-03-09

This, I think is a great book because this book tells of a special and lovely bond between a father and a son and their love for God and Art. The son loves his father so much and wishes so much that he was just like him. Later on in his life he finds that he is. He's became famous and his art was put in museums. But he has problems with this fortune and fame and doesn't know how to deal with it. So he comes to his father thinking that he is losing his talent for art until, his father shows him something he does not expect. This book has ok pictures.

5 out of 5 stars Great for grandparents/or parents to give to children.......1998-09-01

A fathers love will surpass any worldly fame or problems a child might feel. Parents encourage their children to become all they can be and instinctively know when they need to "come home" to the kind of love and encouragement only a loving parent can give. This tender book can be a spiritual reminder of God's "fatherly" love for each of his children.
