Vol. V of a twelve Volume set

Unquestionably the greatest work which Mr. Burbank had done in the line of tree fruits had been with plums and that greatest plum of all, the prune. It has been his purpose in this volume, however, to limit in no wise its value to the plum and prune grower; but, because of the number and completeness of the experiments outlined, it is designed to have a broad, practical worth to the producer of other desirable new fruits, or in fact of any other plants.

This book concludes with one of Mr. Burbank's most interesting achievements - the production of the plumcot, a combination between trees of different species, such as men of science had always thought to be impossible.

Some of the chapters are: Four Burbank Plums-And How They Were Made, Plums and Prunes Without Stones and Seeds, Accomplishing the Impossible-The Plumcot and many more.

If you are someone who has not worked with children or been around children for an extended period of time this book would be very helpful. It has creative and fun ideas for playtime with the ones under 6 months that my husband found very useful. I recommend it for husbands, grandparents and new moms.

I love this book! It is filled with great ideas, and organized by age range. The pictures are large and very helpful along with the descriptions of the activities. Even if you think you may have thought of some of these ideas on your own, it's hard to know when to introduce each activity and what specific skills it is building. This book is a great resource.

i found the activities in this book uninspiring. i was already implementing 99% of them just in my everyday interactions with my infant. i was hoping for something that would further enhance the development of my child, but it turns out the things that naturally occur to a parent are just fine. my baby is only 3 months, so perhaps the activites for older babies will be more interesting. the play for newborns was a disappointment.

This book is very good and give you a lot of ways to interact with your infant and to help his development. However, a lot of the things are things child development books tell you to do and include things that are products on the market.
For example, the book has how to make tummy rolls from towels but, i had already purchased the boppy tummy time mat for this. If i had known or even thought about this towel method before I bought and opened the package then I would not have purchased the boppy.
A couple other examples are the play mat and mobile. This book tell you how to make them with things you already have in the home. Not much use if you have already assembled the baby's room and used the play mat. This is pretty much how things in the book are. There are no NEW ideas in this book.

Thanks to other reviewers, I found this book to be exactly what I wanted!

I use this book to vary the activities I do with my daughter and ensure I am working on varied developmental milestones. I particularly love the airplane exercise that has enabled me to work with my daughter on neck and abdomen physical development despite her reflux problem.

First time mother with no kid experience. Was a helpful tool for me. Gave me ideas on games and activities that would not only be fun for my toddler but would help him developmentally. Really had some good ideas.

This book doesnt provide you with games that are unique or that you havent practiced by the time you receive the book. I knew this before buying the book, still I decided to buy it. I keep it in the playing area, and when I run out of ideas I turn to it and find something else to play with my baby. Its like a memory jogger, you know all the stuff in there, but you still need it to help you remember what you know...if that makes any sense to you.

A Must Have Game Book for Baby.......2004-07-26

I totally agree with the author's saying: The best toy for your baby is one that stimulates all five senses - and that is you!
I would spend a lot of money buying toys for my lovable baby. After reading this book, I knew that my baby favors me more than any toys. I used some of the game ideas from this book to play with my baby, we both had great fun. There are so many great ideas in this book, and it is nicely organized by age: 0-3 months, 3-6 months etc. I highly recommend this book to every parent.

not what I expected.......2004-01-10

There wasn't as much in this book as I was hoping for. The games that are suggested are mainly things I would do with my baby anyway. I guess I was hoping for a little more creativity and insight about development. Also, some of the games did not seem safe to me. One game suggests putting down a wooden ladder for a toddler to walk through like an obstacle course and sitting at the other end to encourage him/her to walk through. That just sounded like a trip hazard with a parent too far away to catch.

this book makes the concept of colors crystal clear. my 22mo twin boys LOVE this book. in fact, they read (and fought over) the book so much i had to buy a replacement. going through the pages endlessly, they now know their colors for red, blue, white, orange, etc. and the large built-in handle makes it very portable for little hands.

My son loves to flip through and look at the pictures and feel the different textures. The pages are thick enough for him to grab and flip. The only thing that bothered me about this book is that under the color black they show grapes and I have never heard or seen black grapes only green, purple or white...

Good choice for a 2 year old.......2006-02-26

This bible is fine. My son just made three, and I think it would have been better for a 2 year old. Generally, the stories are too short to capture any interest in the story itself, but there are flaps to pull up and down, which are good. The index is great. I ask my son which story he wants to hear and he can point it out. I, also, bought the next bible in the series which have the kids act out and and point to things while you read. I think that it is a better choice for my active three year old, but we do continue to read this bible, because he likes the flaps.

Effective Movements and Fingerplays for each Bible Story!.......2005-01-11

The beautifully illustrated cover of this Bible says "50 (Bible) stories...just right for active kids." I bought this as a first Bible for my almost three year old son. It is too wonderful! After almost every line that you read, there is an action for the child to do to participate in the story (walking fingers, pretending to grow tall, looking up to heaven, etc.) The interactive format increases their reading comprehension of the Bible like you wouldn't believe.

Also, some children's Bibles seem almost afraid to include the death and resurrection of Christ, but this one allows little ones to learn the sadness and triumph of Christ's path. For the resurrection, the text has the child pretending to run and look for Jesus in the empty tomb. Wow.

If you teach in a Christian preschool/Kindergarten - buy one now. I can't wait to read it to my class! The wonderful illustrations of Terry Julien will grab your young reader's attention as much as the fingerplays.
