Expert advice for any gardener in the lower midwest.......2002-07-04
This is a "must own" for every newer gardener in the lower midwest states, i.e., Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, and Ohio. Even seasoned veterans will appreciate the information provided in this book. Originally, I had planned to use the library's copy, but when I started to bookmark every page, I realized that purchasing my own copy was the only reasonable and considerate option. Ms. Heilenman shares her hands-on experiences without flinching at the sometimes harsh realities of the weather, and she describes the plants that grow well, as well as those that have failed. Her dry humor, for example when noting her personnal failure with a plant that her colleges seem to grow with ease, is amusing. The book has only a few photographs (they are in color), but it did not deter me from making use of her advice. This is, as far as I know, one of the very first midwest regional gardening books, and it is still, in my opinion, one of the very best. The contents are straight forward, practical, and emanently readable. And considering the pricetag you can't do better!

I am a huge Christina Dodd fan. I loved this book!!! Because of this book, my day at work was not very productive. I could not put it down!!
Like her last 3 series, her Fortune Hunter series is very good. If you are new to the author prepare to be hooked. I can't to wait to start her new Darkness Chosen series.

I thoroughly enjoy all of Ms Dodd's books whether Suspense, Historical or Contemporary or even mixed together.
It was good to see someone else notice that this was part of continuing series regarding the many [...] sons of Nathan Manly (Trouble in High Heels}. Did anyone notice that the Security Company was owned by Gabriel Prescott? He is one of the Texas Prescott family series who were separated as children (Just the Way You Are, etal.) Are we going to get more Gabriel Prescott next or is it going to be Carrick Manly (the only legitimate son of Nathan Manly)? And HEY, what about Sam the FBI man??
It is fun tracing some of the secondary characters back to other series, but I really would like to see some have their own books. Miss Dodd snuck in Roberto (another one of the Manly boys) at the end, but I'd really like to know more about the brothers all getting together. Don't you think Grace Fitzwilliam is due for some romance? And, yes, we definitely need to see more of Meadow's Uncle Four.
Wickedly Delicious Premise.......2007-04-08
I love, love, love this book. The premise alone was what bought it for me. She claims she has amnesia, he claims she's his wife, both know the other is lying...WIN! haha.
The sex scenes were whoa hot, so good hehe. BUT there were some parts that were kind of trite...does a hospital regularly take a pregnancy test when they give you a look over from a head-knock-wound? And the hippy names were kind of...very hippy. But it's just a name.
I would have liked to have seen some more reaction from the old man Bradley when he realized that Meadow was his Isabelle's granddaughter, maybe him cornering her and asking her. And about how Four was always flirting with Meadow, what's his reaction upon learning that he's actually her uncle?
The deal with the painting was very surprising...I wasn't expecting it to be THAT. lol.
Overall it was a good read, I devoured it in a matter of hours. I wish I could wipe my memory of it and read it again. I will definately be keeping this one on the shelf!
A Delightful Readidng Experience........2007-03-22
Christina Dodd has written a delightfully clever and charming novel. It was a light, humorous reading experience. In the world in which we live we need more laughs. I highly recommend this book.
Well-written, fun read.......2007-03-19
I just finished this book over the weekend, and enjoyed it very much. The main characters were very likeable, with their own understandable flaws, and the writing was intelligent, humorous, and suspenseful in the appropriate places. The only reasons I didn't give 5 stars for the book are that some of the characters' actions and motivations didn't completely mesh with their personalities up to that point in the book (but I understand that sometimes you need certain things to happen or not happen in order to keep the plot moving where you want it to), and because the book title does not seem to fit at all with the plot or characters of the book. That said, this was a very enjoyable read and I would recommend it, and other Christina Dodd books, to any romance reader.

If you are interested in Chinese art, culture, clothing, and history, then this is your Bible. Chalked full of photos that pop off the page. This witty and interesting book takes you from Ming to present day China. Vivienne Tam reflects on her life, born in mainland China, raised in Hong Kong, then moving to New York. She tells charming stories about what has influenced and inspired her and her collections. Great interviews with members of China's creative community, and who can forget Mao? The book is designed like a large coffee table version of Mao's little red book! This is simply stunning.

Big book with stunning and bright photo illustrations that "bleed" off the page.
Ms. Tam understands the style of Hong Kong and China (especially Shanghai) like few others; the best of that style is all here. She writes with enthusiasm and love for many essential aspects of the appeal of a culture known for its centuries-old aesthetic and for its mass-production and other mass sensibilities.
Tam's education at the Hong Kong Polytechnic gives her a unique vantage point for isolating Chinese chic. She can view Cultural Revolution paraphrenalia with the eye of a designer, collector, and artist, rather than with painful memories. In a show of global sophistication, she understands East-meets-West sensibility (her chapter on Chinglish is told with an appealing tenderness). The text comes off without a shimmer of self-consciousness or compulsion to 'be Chinese.' There is camp, sex, zen, pizzazz and beauty, exploding off of every page and augmented by Tam's tales of exploration and appreciation.

I love the work in this book and have been seeking out several of the photographers. Mikael Jansson, Larry Sultan, Terry Richardson, Alexei Hay, Antonio Spinoza... the work is amazing. This book is a great collection.
Horrible show.......2002-05-01
I attended the show this book is based on at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston and was extremely disappointed. The photographs selected for the show were without merit and neither my friend nor I were able ascertain what the show purported to illustrate, which is the relationship between commercial fashion work and personal artistic expression. I suggest passing this one by, its not worth it.

Positively Crochet!is a wonderful book. There is such a wide variety of crochet patterns and definitely has something for every one. I love the Soft Capelets pattern and the fact it comes in different sizes. The jewelry patterns are a very nice surprise and I love the purse key chain. I plan to make several of those for Christmas gifts along with a couple of the scarf patterns and the Patchwork Purse. The Helpful Hints on the side of the page is a great idea. I would recommend Positively Crochet! to anyone who wants a well written pattern book with a large selection of patterns for all skill levels.

I was really excited to get this book from looking at the cover. However, I'm somewhat disappointed in the types of patterns that it has available; most items are accessories, and the wearables are okay... just not my style. If you love accessories of any kind, then you will like this book, if not... you will share my opinion.

What a Marvelous Book!.......2007-09-22
I love it! Lots of patterns to choose from, a wide variety of sizes, and projects that even appeal to my 13-year-old Gothling, with appropriate color changes, of course. Most pattern books contain between 10 and 25 patterns; this one has a full 50 to choose from, as well as words of encouragement on every page. The patterns range from simple to more complex but well explained; it's a book you can grow with if you are a beginner. A more advanced crochet artist might gravitate to the more complex patterns, but the wide selection means there's a choice of a quick, simple project for a weekend in addition to fashion tops. I highly recommend it to any crocheter.
Another reviewer said to avoid the book if you didn't like to see the word "God;" I'm not a Christian but found the word non-specific enough not to ruffle my feathers -- and I have practice at feather ruffling! I like the positive quotes. It keeps the book upbeat and dynamic.
