Book Description
Eleven different paper flower-making techniques, three projects for each, all developed by a proven author with an enchanting, whimsical, flea-market-meets-fantasy sensibility: that’s what makes this volume so irresistible. Sandra Evertson follows up her Fanciful Paper Projects with a fabulously feminine collection of paper flower jewelry, garlands, barrettes, hatpins, ornaments, and decorative objects that will appeal to the many women crafters looking for something charming and new. Each chapter features a page from her very own sketchbook, plus she’s provided several pages of vintage ephemera, templates, and her original papers for readers to copy and use. From découpaged Postcard Posies to the Glitter Kitten Crown, Cupcake Carnations to a Tute Bella Affirmations Box, this collection truly offers a garden of artistic possibilities!

Beautiful work and lovely ideas!.......2007-06-15
I love vintage paper and if you do - you will love this book. Great ideas and fun projects to do yourself or with friends.
An Truly Enchanting Follow-up.......2007-04-03
I once read that "fantasy is imagination unrestricted by reality." Sandra Evertson has got that theory down.
Her book, Fanciful Paper Flowers, is the perfect follow-up to the previous book, Fanciful Paper Projects. Each page is filled with some of the most creative projects I have ever seen. Into a crafter's world of what can frequently entail rather monotonous and uninspiring projects, Evertson breathes new life. Not unlike the projects in her previous books, the paper flower projects in this book really open the imagination and remind us of the true artistry of crafting. I highly recommend picking up a copy. You won't regret it!
So fanciful.......2007-04-02
Sandra has produced yet another masterfully illustrated and creative book. Her ideas seem to pour endlessly from her heart and soul onto the pages of her books. Sandra's creations are fun, well-explained and the finished pieces are adorable. I cannot wait to see what she will create next.
Another Hit!.......2007-04-01
Sandra Evertson has done it again. This book is a great addition to Sandra Evertson's artistic vision. I have purchased all of her other books and they have opened up my eyes to the potential of papers of all kinds. I've also noticed the influence of her work on other artists. This new book is exceptional. She has risen to the challenge of what could be a very mundane subject and created an imaginative and inspiring book full of beautiful projects. Each project is rich with ideas and the instructions are very specific. You'll create pieces you never thought you could before. I look forward to seeing what she will bring us next.
So many ideas.......2007-04-01
This is the 4th book I have gotten by Sandra. Each is different and fun to look at besides use. This one I found ideas that I could do and some I could use at school. Always a plus when i can use a book for school. I found the ideas wonderful and great jumping off places for my own ideas. I have made 3 different ones and find the directions easy to follow and fun to do.

Written in a charming, warm voice, The Magic Land guides new gardeners in using their intuition to envision their dream garden. Touching on concepts such as vignettes and movement in the garden, the book works to awaken a sense of wonder about nature and the home so that people can have a sanctuary that's perfectly matched to their lifestyles. Readers are encouraged to make collages representing what their gardens might feel like and to collect pictures and information from magazines. Overall, the book's strength is in its wide coverage of planning out the green area around a home; its weakness is in its lack of new and in-depth information. The book includes practical advice for design, but what is said has been said before in Sunset or Better Homes & Garden manuals, e.g., "Figure out where the sunny and shady parts of the garden are in the different seasons, where the land is boggy or dry ..." There's minimal information for those gardeners who simply want to grab the shovel and plant a fast low-maintenance garden or tailor a backyard for children, guests, or pet activities.
If you are a fairly experienced gardener who already owns a garden- design book, chances are you won't glean much from The Magic Land beyond its delightful writing, but for those with virtually no gardening experience, this is the perfect book. The author's voice is intimate, her guidance is knowledgeable, and she does a good job of beginning at the beginning. --Karen Karleski

Launch into a new way of life filled with magic:.......1997-11-08
Advance Praise from Yo-Yo Ma, Thomas Moore and Carol Stocker for THE MAGIC LAND: Designing Your Own Enchanted Garden by Julie Moir Messervy, author of THE INWARD GARDEN and CONTEMPLATIVE GARDENS.
"Every Page of this book is filled with magic. Julie Moir Messervy leads us on imaginative journeys, showing us how to create our own dream gardens. Julie and I collaborated for several years to turn a Bach Suite into a Music Garden. Now, with this book, Julie collaborates with readers, offering practical as well as inspirational advice on garden design. THE MAGIC LAND is a delight!"
Yo-Yo Ma, Cellist
"When you read The Magic Land you might launch into a new way of life. It treats the spaces and places of our lives as though they were connected to the geography of our dreams and the inner places where meaning is revealed. Julie Moir Messervy's observations are thoughtful, solid and practical as she teaches us charmingly how to make a garden with deep imagination. She invites us into a world that is seriously magical and offers a way out of the mechanical, literal, uninspiring spaces peculiar to our time which, I am convinced, are behind our depressions and anxieties. So, not only are her gardens enchanting; they are places of true healing and re-creation."
Thomas Moore
Author of The Art of the Soul, Care of the Soul
``The Magic Land'' will open doors for intuitive gardeners who not only want suggestions on how to stamp of their personalities upon the land, but how to shape a place that will reawaken the wonder they felt at discovering the world for the first time. Succinctly encapsulating a lexicon of design philosophies from feng shui to Egyptian symmetry, this book presents so many resonant garden concepts that it could double as either a text book for design classes or as a companion for inspired daydreaming. Julie Moir Messervy is a spirit guide for those who want to explore the translation of emotions into garden designs."
Carol Stocker, The Boston Globe garden writer

Since the beginning of history, plants have been known for their healing powers. The
Wicca Garden cultivates the natural properties of the green kingdom and instructs the witch in the curative powers of plants as well as divinations, charms, and spells employing them. This is more than just a guide on which plants do what; Gerina Dunwich gives advice on when to plant, details what grows well where, and offers spells to help your garden grow.

4.5 stars.......2006-01-18
Book of magickal herbs and plants - the subtitle tells all. And although my purpose is different (I want to plan and plant a garden is such a way that it magickally protects the house and enhances lives of its inhabitants), which this book did not entirely fulfil, it is informative and covers a lot in its not so large format. It covers some basics of planting, fertilizing etc in section on herb gardening, lists and describes properties of magickal herbs, has a section on plants associated with fairies / elementals, section onn green healing, mind altering plants, dangerous plants, herb omens and supersticions, divinatory herbs and a very useful glossary. I agree with one of previous reviewers that good info is somehow lost in the rest. Good book thou, happy to have it
Thank-you Gerina.......2005-08-12
This was my first book on Wicca and it was very informative.
I have successfully grown many herbs with the help of this
book, Thank-you Gerina Dunwich. T. Shields
The good stuff gets lost in the mix........2004-10-20
This book does make a good addition to a reference library as there is a lot covered. A plus is plant associations for other pantheons besides Roman and Greek. However I didn't find it logically laid out and there are long paragraphs that would have better served the reader in grid format. I also found too much mythology and old wives tales mixed in with the really helpful bits. There are chapters dedicated to these topics so it could have been better organized. Still, there is enough useful information to make it worthwhile as long as you are willing to spend a little extra time looking for it.
An Excellent Herbal for Witches!.......2000-09-12
I HIGHLY recommend this well-written and informative book to all Witches and anyone looking for information on the folklore and magickal application of herbs. The author, a practicing Witch, includes many areas of herbalism that many other books don't (such as mind-expanding plants, herbal poisons, and other such "taboo" subjects) and there is an excellent section devoted to the mandrake, "the most magickal of all plants and herbs." Gardening, healing, and divination are also covered in this modern Witch's book of enchanted herbs and plants, and a helpful glossary of herbalism terms is included at the back of the book.
Incredible, yet sometimes predictable........2000-02-06
I always enjoy reading books by Gerina Dunwich. I hope she enjoys what she does, and doesn't write just for the money. The Wicca Garden is a great book, but Dunwich should have put more ways to use herbs in healing and perhaps spells and rituals involving herbs. I'm now actually somewhat surprised she didn't. Her chapter on growing herbs is good and I enjoyed her chapter on Herbs of the Enchanted World, all the folklore involving fairies was quite interesting and reminded me of a time centuries ago. This book, like many of Dunwich's, is a large list. Lists of everything. Don't get me wrong though, this books makes an excellent reference guide that I have referred to several times. Yes, if you are interested in herbs, please look for this book and hurry, it's out of print. Thanks. Bye.

Enchanting...No Doubt About It.......2001-12-08
This beautifully crafted book has silky pages and a beautiful dustjacket. It is lavishly illustrated with about 50% Pre-Raphaelite paintings and the other 50% botanical paintings by Benjamin Perkins. The Pre-Raphaelite works are exquisite choices, really enhance the text and make it seem like a delicious indulgence in pleasure. The botanical works are detailed and skillfully rendered and are also wonderful choices that enrich the text. The borders of the pages are decorated as well. The text includes chapters on fairies and angels in the garden, tree spirits and fairy trees, flowers and the feminine spirit, and calling a unicorn into the garden. It is atmospheric and lyrical and sprinkled with whimsy and at the same time it is serious and contemplative. There is much lore and folk wisdom here. It encourages a multi-dimensional relationship with gardens and is filled with healing, magic and beauty as all gardens are. I highly recommend it.
A beautiful little book..........2001-09-08
This is a beautifully produced book with gorgeous paintings pictured amidst uplifting prose about the magic and healing of gardening.
Great gift for the gardener who is in to angels, etc. I bought it for my mother.
Elegant and Enchanting.......2000-03-28
This book is pure enchantment. The color plates of the paintings of the Pre-Raphaelites are reason enough to have this book. Discussions of angels and angel meditiation, fairy spells and fairy trees as well as flower healing just begin to touch on the wonders included in this book. How can this book be out of print! It is one of my favorites.I haven't found this information in other book. Its like a beloved fairy tale book of childhood to take out on rainy days or even on sunny ones to sit with under a shade tree and call up the magical powers of nature. Its gorgeous and not be missed.

Book Description
"Faerie folkes live in old Oakes."
According to German folklore, the holes found in oak trees are fairy pathways. At Winterthur, three acres of the incomparable garden on Oak Hill have been developed into a veritable fairy playground -- a garden especially for children. Enchanted Woods, canopied by majestic red, white, and scarlet oaks, has become a place of enchantment, mystery, and discovery.
In Discover Enchanted Woods, the sixth volume in the museum's Discover Series, landscape curator and author Denise Magnani takes us on a journey through the garden, offering a "behind-the-scenes" look at its creation. Shaped by the imagination and given substance by sculptures, child-size structures, serpentine walks, and "found" bits and pieces of the Winterthur estate, Enchanted Woods delights the visitor with a Troll Bridge, Faerie Cottage, Bird's Nest, Frog Hollow, Tulip Tree House, Story Stones, and Fairy Flower Labyrinth.
Magnani's in-depth involvement with both the development and interpretation of the garden serves her well in this "insider's" look at the newest Winterthur offering.
