As expected from this series, the photograpy and presentation are beautiful and the instructions for recipes and projects clear and accompanied by diagrams where needed.
This year's decoration themes are Snow Business, a jolly, felt snowman theme for kids of all ages, Christmas Provencal, floral, muted shades of cream; Contemporary Classic, featuring amarylis to stunning effect; Twelfth Night Splendour, in burnished gold; Natural by Design with squash, fruit and greenery; and Woodland wonder with cardinals and natural decorations. I rather liked the pretty chocolate section featuring the "trees" on the front cover! Beautiful and delicious!

I just loved this book! It has wonderful ideas on gift making and giving that aren't cheap or "cheesy". There is something to make for everyone on your gift list. It has been photographed beautifully and the directions are clear and concise. I highly recommend this book

Not that impressive........1999-08-14
This book has ideas for crafters of all tastes. The projects in this book range anywhere from victorian to country. Although this book doesn't stand-out as a favorite among my collection of craft books, it is well organized with nice pictures of all the completed projects. If it wasn't for all the clever ideas in the children's chapter (and a few good dessert recipes too), I probably would not keep this book.

Impressive to find in one book so many different, easy to make and fun to do, ideas. My children had fun making the painted shirts. Continue with books this fun. Hope you introduce Leisure Arts for The Spirit of Halloween too!!!!
Excellent, very creative........1998-07-27
This book is full of inspiring decorations and recipes. Several decorative ideas/creations would be easy for children to do and yet still be appealing to adults. There are decorative ideas that would be approprate for the "country" look or a more "formal" atmosphere. I think it's great!

I have been a crafter for many years and have used this particular series of books for quite a few of them. Many of the ideas are very good and the photography is done very well. I have found the recipes to be delicious and the directions clear although many are not for the novice cook. NOTEWORTHY; it is not always easy and sometimes impossible to find the supplies listed for some of the projects. I have often been forced to substitute with something else that was close to what was originally called for. I would like to see a "Resources List" with names/addresses/telephone numbers added to these books where project-specific supplies could be purchased.

The Spirit of Christmas: Creative Holiday Ideas, Book 7, is a fun and unique idea book geared toward the craft enthusiast. In it are full-colored pictures and easy to follow instructions on a variety of themed crafts such as Christmas tree ornaments, wreaths, trims, and related holiday decorations. And, not to mention, a variety of holiday recipes for dinners and different 'desserts'.
I enjoyed this book's enticing pictures and its easy-to-read format. It is divided into sections by theme; each craft theme includes a Christmas tree and related decorations as mentioned above. All the decorations in each theme match or coordinate. The recipe section is also divided by themes (like food types.)
Overall, it is a creative, well thought out book that every holiday craft enthusiast should enjoy.

Nice pictures and inspiration..........2007-03-02
This book was a nice picture book of country rooms and homes. I did enjoy looking through. However, I thought some of the rooms were rather "outdated" in the country look, and some like "ethnic" were...well, bizarre!
I did like the Shaker and more modern designs, and thing it's a fine book to flip through.
Your Own Definition of "Country" ............2005-05-29
The first few times I paged through the book I thought I didn't like it much, but then [FLASH!!!] I realized that the book's strength is that it shows so many different variations of "country" that it forced me to define, redefine and narrow my choices until I knew what I liked and didn't like, what I wanted, and I was then ready to buy, build, re-do, scrounge, beg, borrow, etc. It really helped me devise a Plan of Action.
The fairly in-depth chapters showed homes that I labeled Shaker-style plain, claustrophobically crowded, boarding house depressing, great house-ugly colors, great colors-ugly house,
junk store mismatched and then finally Warm and Wonderful - Just my style. The chapter on the very Retro Airstream trailer-van is also a really nostalgic throwback to my childhood in the '50's - when you really saw these on the roads -
I recommend this book for anyone with a yen for country, but no [as yet] very clear idea of how they will go about getting it.
A Beautiful Book That Teaches and Inspires,.......2003-05-01
many decorating ideas and styles within the framework of
Country. Although, I turn to this book when i am about to paint a room and need to study the effects of a color.Another person
might find it useful to learn the skills of simplifying a type of decor.
It starts with the stark simplicity and ulitarian work of
the American Shaker and brings in English Country and
proceeds to modern Cubism.
The pastel colors in this book are a feast to the eyes, in
their subtle combinations.
This book shows how details of life are important, but in
natural way without clutter prevailing in a room.
Except for the Bazaar Style and the Ethnic section, most of it would be welcome in your home. It even spruces up a trailer
for those who prefer to live on wheels.I highly recommend
this refresing look at Country "Chic.

I was never Aware How Many Ways Country could be Described........2004-01-15
I would call chic country,a place that is relaxing,
renewing and comfortable,as the author shows in so many
different ways.
First is,Blue and White Country.These are ageless
colors that represent the sky, water and purity.This
can be attained without a beach house purchase.Combine
blue and white on a shelf.Whitewash old bricks.Keep
areas with blue and white pristine clean and they will
be a comfort.
Second, Patriotic Country.It is very popular now and
old fashioned toys,flags, and pewter all reflect God
and Country, and a certain sense of individulism.Not
for everybody but attractive,nontheless.
Cottages by the sea,look stunning with minimal blue
and white.Wicker chairs in brown or white,this is the
third choice.
Next,Formal Country,a type rarely seen.This appeared
to be Spanish or Western,with hand carved furniture
and dark beamed ceilings.A close relative of mine
built a summer home in the 1920's.It had carved Vic-
torian furniture and imported candlesticks.It was a
combo of Tudor-Spanish with Jacobean furniture and heavy
lead paned windows.As with many families,it became the permanent
dwelling after the Depression.
Next,a change with Eclectic Country,drawn from many good
sources,especially Collector Style.It tends to balance us in our
high-tech civilazation.The best is usually drawn and compatable.
Harmonious groupings of ironstone dishes mixed with unique
quilt squares.Rustic Country,is what most people have in mind,
when you say Country.Birdhouses,recycled items,weathered wood
and vintage items.Very likeable section,Collectors Style.
I personally liked the arragement of the Family photos on one
wall.All in different frames they tell a family history,instead
of the new all black frames so popular now.
It also show how to group them with effect.Many other retro
collections are shown to advantage.
Lastly,is decorating with White, where you can never go wrong.White rooms with cedar brown beamed ceilings that lift the eye.Vintage white iron headboard and nostalgic birds and
birdhouses.Plain white mirrors in a bathroom.And of course lace pearls and strewn white roses.Who could co wrong with this.
Every time, I look at this book I find more examples of what
I missed.In its' own way,this book tells a history of my
America.
Not so chic...............2003-08-08
For a book with this title, I'm surprised that all of the decor shown is basically just typical country. I was looking for country with a more contemporary feel, but that is not how "chic" is defined for this book. Otherwise it's not a bad country decorating book per se, I just think it should have a different title.
