This book is great! I use it all the time and my pages have been dog-eared to death. Very useful and the pictures can give you some great ideas! I pull it out all the time, even just to look at the pictures.

This has been one of my best purchases yet for gardening. From preparing the land to the final touches this book contains excellent detail. In addition, you have multiple plans for projects from gazebos to water fountains. I highly recommend this book. You will not regret the purchase.

They weren't lying when they said new complete guide! It has everything and more. It has really inspired me.The pictures are fantastic. They can give you ideas themselves. This book lets you know how to plan out your landscape, let's you use your imagination, and gives you choices and step by step instructions to make your landscaping dreams come true. I highly reccomend it. This is the best book out there! It has some excellent ideas!

This is really a great and very comprehensive book, I love it. I saw it the first time in a store and I was really impressed by it, so I decided to look for it on amazon. My favorite part is the different ways shown to incorporate water. Also I liked the thoughtful tips that should be considered when planning a garden, such as a form of privacy around the spa.

Great reference tool for beginners!.......1999-09-21
I bought this book when I bought & built my first house. I had to landscape my entire yard from nothing but dirt. This book provided a great starting point. It explained all the basics, and gave me a push in the right direction. Anytime I need more info on any plant or flower, I refer to this book for a great color picture and planting information. Now that I am becoming a more advanced gardener, I find I like more in-depth detail, but for the first 8 months of landscpaing, this book became my tattered, highlighted lifesaver!
Information is out-of-date, mistaken........1999-08-27
I'm a master gardener, so I picked up this book eagerly. Unfortunately, although the book is nice to look at, the information it contains is pretty old and in some cases, just mistaken. There are many other books that contain much better research than what is found here.

This is a very beautiful lady who has done the reseach for this great Herb book. If you have never experienced food with the addition of many of these herbs you haven't lived. If there were a book that you could find new adventuers in culinary delights, this is the one.

Lucinda broke new ground with the first edition of this book, and she's done an excellent job of refining the territory with the second. She obviously loves her herbs and loves cooking with them. A great compliment to the kitchen and the garden.

For those of us are into using moon signs and the Farmer's Almanac, this book is a real treasure. It is a compilation of bits and pieces about gardening and a great deal more. It is interesting to read and easy to use. Raising With the Moon is a must for your gardening library.

Have you ever picked up a Farmer's Almanac and wondered how in the world it's used, much less understood? Now armed with Pyle and Reese's clear, concise and rational explanations of the effects of the moon's signs, you can till, weed, plant, water, even mow the lawn and get your hair cut under the most favorable conditions. Their Planting Guide gives what phase of the moon is best to plant different vegetables and flowers and which moon signs are most suitable. It is easy to follow and the theory explained simply and convincingly. Other charts include Good Companions and Bad Companions which help one lay out a garden plan which will make everyone happy. For example, I put in bush beans around my strawberries. The beans provide nitrogen for the berries. Another chart gives natural repellents to pests, such as radishes to repel cucumber beetles. However, all this is just an added benefit of the book. The real heart is the moon sign explanations and how to apply the phases of the moon and the zodiac signs to successful gardening. Part of the authors' impetus to write the book was a quote from Dr. Robert Millikan, Nobel Prize Winner (Physics, 1923):"I do know that if man if not affected in some way by the planets, sun and moon, he is the only thing on earth that is not." Here's a free tip. If you want to slow the growth of your lawn, mow in the waning moon (after the full one) in Leo, Gemini, Virgo, Aquarius, Sagittarius or Aries (in declining order of effectiveness).
