Book Description
The House of Lanvin evolved from the creative force and remarkable energy of an extraordinary woman, Jeanne Lanvin. Her design career survived fifty-six successful and productive years. Lanvin is the oldest surviving couture house, in near-continuous existence from 1909 through the present day. Her body of work includes millinery, children’s wear, haute couture, fragrances, furs, lingerie, menswear, and interior design among others. The continuous public appeal and the youthful image of these couture creations are lasting aspects of Madame Lanvin’s career. At the heart of this book are key collections from 1909 through 1946, the year of Lanvin’s death. Original fashion illustrations, beading and embroidery swatches play a crucial role in demonstrating her intricate, creative, and innovative techniques. The house of Lanvin is currently experiencing a period of great acclaim, emerging as a darling of the press, Hollywood, and the larger fashion community. With the most modern of efforts, Alber Elbaz, the current design director, is drawing from the rich Lanvin tradition to create an award-winning collection that at once evokes, reveres, and reinvents the intentions of its founder.

Introduction to Jeanne Lanvin.......2007-06-13
This book makes the perfect gift along with a bottle of Arpege or any other accessory by Lanvin. However as a standalone it might not give the anticipated indepth information a reader would be looking for. The tableaus selected for the book are nicely choosen, providing an overview on the variety of Jeanne Lanvin's work and are in compliance to the text. All in all it is an adequate introduction to Jeanne Lanvin as a person and couturier

Book Description
The Global Information Technology Report 2003-2004 will be the third of a very well-received series assessing the state of networked readiness of various countries around the world. Recognizing the relevance of and the rapid changes in information technology, the Global Information Technology Report 2003-2004 will be an update to the previous Reports, capturing new insights and best practices and gleaning policy lessons from various country experiences. With the expansion in country coverage, the Report remains the most comprehensive and authoritative international assessment of the preparedness of countries to capture the benefits of participating in the Networked World. The Report consists of three main parts: the first includes analytical chapters related to networked readiness; the second contains country profiles, and the third part consists of the data tables which contains country rankings for every indicator. The 2003-2004 Report will be even more comprehensive than the previous Reports. This edition will assess at least 100 countries, with the inclusion of several African economies. To ensure that the most comprehensive array of relevant variables pertaining to Networked Readiness are distilled and analyzed, the variable composition of the model has been refined. Like previous reports, this year's is the result of a collaboration between the World Economic Forum and Somitra Dutta, the Dean of Technology at INSEAD and Bruno Lanvin, Manager of Information for Development at the World Bank. Written in a non-technical language and style, the Report appeals to a broad audience consisting of policy makers, business leaders and academics. In the tradition of the other reports of the Global Competitiveness Programme of the World Economic Forum, the Report brings together a range of leading experts in the field: academic experts, industry consultants, industry leaders and representatives of multilateral organizations. The findings of the Report will be presented at the World Summit for Information Society, which will gather the world's leading stakeholders of information technology in Geneva in December of 2003. The Report will also be used as a platform for discussion at the Annual Meeting in Davos, at regional events, country level meetings and other relevant activities of the World Economic Forum and Information for Development of the World Bank.
Book Description
The use and application of ICT continues to be an important factor driving economic growth. The World Economic Forum, in collaboration with INSEAD and CISCO, is pleased to announce the release of its fourth edition of the annual Global Information Technology Report - a comprehensive tool for measuring the progress of and identifying the obstacles to ICT development in over 100 countries worldwide. The Networked Readiness Index of the Report provides the most comprehensive assessment of how prepared an economy is to capture the benefits of technology to promote economic growth and productivity. This study explicitly considers the roles played by the major stakeholders - individuals, businesses and governments, in relation to three dimensions: the environment for the development and use of ICT, the readiness of stakeholders to leverage the potential of ICT, and the degree of usage of ICT. The selection of essays, detailed country profiles for 104 economies and data tables on over 70 different ICT indicators presented in the Report provide a useful guide for the design and structure of policy measures for the key ICT stakeholders, individuals, businesses, and governments, in order to capture the benefits of ICT.

Book Description
The eclectic look is home decor's hottest trend, but flea market shopping has become a national obsession, making it difficult to find real bargains. BJ Berti reveals how easy it is to get the look for less by giving new life to inexpensive castoffs and finding unusual ways to make the most out of ordinary pieces.
A flea market veteran, BJ is a pro at reimagining the wobbly end table as a vehicle for vibrant color and seeing beyond a coating of ugly paint or covering of faded fabric. In Flea Market Makeovers, she reveals secrets for spotting diamonds in the rough at local flea markets, neighborhood garage sales, and vintage furniture stores and shows how to gauge the potential of the curbside castoff.
Through twenty-five projects and a special section of basic techniques, BJ explains how a little loving care and a touch of elbow grease can transform the most forlorn-looking pieces into charming additions for all rooms of the home. Step-by-step instructions make it easy to follow her philosophy of restore, revive, and reuse. Why overlook a piece just because it has loose joints or a shaky leg? Minor fixes are easy to accomplish with a little craft know-how, and sometimes just a rigorous cleaning is all that's needed to unveil a prize find.
BJ carefully describes how to strip away layers of paint, smooth nicks and dents, and replace old stuffing and fabric. She also illustrates how simple it is to revive a piece by adding a painted pattern, some beveled mirror pieces, or a carved wooden molding. For example, a simple folding card table looks entirely different after BJ replaces its dull floral tabletop with new painted canvas. Finally, BJ demonstrates how to successfully reuse pieces with unexpected placement. For example, a bookcase with fresh detailing stands out as smart storage for a dining room, and a panel from an old upright piano makes waves as a headboard over a bed.
With projects that range from a new lamp to brighten a corner of a living room to a mirrored panel for sectioning off a study,
Flea Market Makeovers balances the best of crafting with extremely chic results for every room of the home. Flea Market Makeovers makes it easy to spot the hidden gems with the acumen of a pro.

Refinish Those Flea Market Finds.......2005-05-18
This book provides a variety of step-by-step instructions, ideas and tips for refinishing bargain items you might find at a flea market, yard sale, Goodwill or even in your own garage. There are 25 projects in all, ranging from lampshades to shelves.
While some of the projects are a bit eclectic and might not be for everyone, you can still adapt the concept and steps to create something unique that suits your own taste. For example, you could follow the directions for rewiring an old lamp using the base of your choice, not necessary the pressed glass that the author uses.
The book includes excellent color photos and simple directions for each project. There are chapters on lamps/shades, chairs, tables and beds, storing/organizing (bookcase, Mission-style coat rack, metal storage bin) and odds & ends (picture frame, folding screen room divider, etc.), so there's something for the curious as well as the more ambitious.
If you enjoy watching home decorating shows (like Trading Spaces) or are just a DIY kind of person of beginning to intermediate skills, this book provides some great ideas and how-to advice. If you're a more advanced DIY person, this might be a bit too basic for you.
Not bad but not my taste.......2001-08-09
I suppose I should start by specifying that I am not a flea market junkie, though I have been known to haunt garage sales and search for bargains that I could transform into something fun and wonderful for my home. This book does have a wide variety of projects in it, and the directions and materials needed for each project are laid out neatly and expertly. If you can follow directions, you should be able to accomplish most or all of the projects in this book.
That said, I was not attracted to the majority of the projects in here. You can, of course, customize each project to fit your home, and yes there are some decent tips in here as far as doing general fixer-upper jobs on old flea market finds...but in general the projects in this book appeared flashy, trendy, and too frilly for my tastes. I can flip through this book and my mind writes it off as 'just another fru-fru craft book', which I have an inordinately large pile of. :)
If you LIKE fru-fru craft books this would be a good one to get, because not only do you get a wide variety of projects, you also get handy tips on repair and maintenance, as well as a guide to tools and materials needed for this type of restoration work.
So go to it and good luck with those flea market bargains of yours!
Just Do It!.......2000-09-11
Flea-market junkies-- here's help with fixing up the stuff you just HAD to have and now wonder how on earth you're going to do it. The 25 projects outlined in this wonderful how-to book are just the beginning. Use them as "jumping off" lessons in repairing and refurbishing the worn, but good stuff you have sitting in your garage waiting for your loving attention. Large, clear photos and step-by-step instructions make for easy understanding of each project. I've used it and I treasure it, it's a jewel!

Customer Reviews:
Title is a Misnomer--Should be "Dollar Store Decorating".......2005-02-04
A predonderance of Grover's featured designs were purchased new from dollar stores, not flea markets. Those of you who love furnishing with vintage flea market finds, look elsewhere, unless you happen to like decorating with cheap and tacky dollar store trinkets in tediously repeating themes throughout your house. Most of the flea market items featured in this book were backdrops, i.e., distressed shelves or armoires Grover already owned that displayed her design ideas, which in and of themselves would hardly be construed as "flea market". Besides her tireless usage of star and seashells themes, she espouses decorating with plastic baskets, animal prints, and--let me get this straight--"chair trains". I must say, however, that this particular idea was certainly unique--who would ever think of putting a train on a chair? I would suggest borrowing this book from the library or flipping through it at the bookstore before spending a...ahem...dollar on it.
stay away from grover.......2004-07-25
I have been working in the design field for over 10 years now and I have yet to see a worse ripp off then this author not only are there no directions to her projects, but who would want to engage them selves in anything that turned out so chic and cheesey. I have personally met the author and her family I knew them for quite a while infact and never did I find that she could creatively enhance a project. she has some small skill in putting together junk so it doesn't look so much like junk. butlets face it - it's still junk. not something I would put in my house nor in my clients homes.
Fabulous Flea Market Decorating.......2004-02-07
I bought this book based on the reviews and I can say that I really dislike this book. I could not find one project that had any appeal for me or that gave me any ideas. Over the years, I have purchased an unbelievable number of books from Amazon and this is the only book I have ever bothered to return. It is also the only book I have written a review on. I base most of my purchases on reviews and as this was so disappointing to me I felt I had to express my opinion. I suggest you look at this book either at a bookstore or library before purchasing. In my opinion you would be much better off purchasing Junk Chic, Easy Flea Market Style, or Flea Market Style.
Loved this book.......2003-04-09
I just got back from the bookstore with this book in tow, I couldn't wait to purchase it on Amazon. I love this book. There are great unique ideas, plus it's a terrific primer for pulling it all together. I love the Mary Engelbreit look but have been unsuccessful in creating this look in my own home, however after just a quick read through browsing the pictures and some of the text I am confident I can finally make it all work together. I am positive that this is the book that I will return to again and again for inspiration. It has already saved us money, I was planning on replacing my coffee table, the victim of our overzealous five year old artist, but now think I will decoupage it instead. My husband even thought it was a good idea. I also loved the authors personal stories, like how her father told her that crickets were the stars singing. I have to make one comment though, the authors style is not for the faint of heart, buy the matching set types or those that are really into nuetrals, there's nothing traditional in here, but for creative decorator's like me it is just the thing. There also are no specific directions for specific projects if this is what you are looking for look elsewhere.
