Great purchase.......2007-07-24
I love the paperback version of this book because it is spiralbound. It has laminated pages, great for the garden, keeps it clean. The book is organized by flowering month that helps find plants you can't identify or to locate plants for a certain month that you need more color in your garden. I live in the Chicago area and it seems to cover a lot of plants for my planting zone. Each plant has the information I need to choose for certain areas of planting. It's a great book!
Easy Gardening.......2006-05-17
This book has taken the puzzle and work out of perennial gardening. THanks to Pam, I now understand the way to keep my garden in color all season!
Continuous Bloom.......2005-10-24
I have many books and enjoy them all. But this book had some ideas and information I had not read about in the past. A very fine purchase.
A good reference book for New England gardeners..........2005-06-21
Continuous Bloom is one of those books I refer to over and over again. Pam Duthie shows that it is relatively easy to keep perennial beds and borders looking good and in bloom from March through October in eastern North America. Two hundred and seventy-two of the best perennials, each with a full-color photo, are arranged in order of bloom time. For each plant, there is necessary information for home gardeners such as: plant hardiness zone, height/width, descriptions of flower and foliage, bloom time, light and soil requirements, care, propagation, and potential problems. A good investment for beginning as well as experienced gardeners.
Simplicity itself!.......2003-04-25
This book is a novice gardener's dream come true!
The flowering plants & colorful bushes are arranged by month of blooming time, each page has a picture of the plant & a detailed description of it: Type, flower size, foliage color, bloom length, light preference, care problems, tips, etc..
There are planting & seasonal garden care tips at the end of the book.
As a novice gardener I'm glad that I found this book to help me create a continuously blooming garden.

This authoritative includes rare and unusual plants as well as proven, readily available garden performers.
Customer Reviews:
Very Beautiful Book.......2000-04-10
Clearly a work of long effort and love, this magnificent volume shows what'you've always wanted to grow in your rock garden'...including some very rare, very astonishing plants. The pics are truly beautiful and show the plants as well as the flowers. The only thing it seems to lack is a discussion of some of the finer points of culture of some of these gems, but then again this isn't purely a book about rock garden culture. For that, look for Linc Foster's Rock Gardening or Reginald Farrer's classic The English Rock Garden.
Seeing is believing.......2000-04-08
One of the most difficult parts of selecting rock garden plants is anticipating what they will look like in one's own rock garden. The pictures and descriptions in Baldassare Mineo's book are extraordinarily accurate, interesting and authoritative. We've seen Mineo's thrilling gardens and know that he understands his subject from the scree up! This book will become a classic.
Customer Reviews:
Perhaps the BEST book for Houston and Gulf Coast Gardeners.......2003-03-10
You will enjoy the many discoveries this book has to offer and it is beautifully illustrated with a color photograph and planting recommendations for every plant. I cannot recommend a better book for a Houston or Gulf Coast gardener, either expert or new comer, and I have read them all! It focuses on plants that truly do well HERE. It skips azaleas, hybrid roses, tulips and all the other fussy plants pushed by the local nurseries do great anywhere but here. Instead it offers beautiful and underused (and for the most part - EASY) alternatives.
Excellent.......1997-12-08
One of the best book's on Texas gardening.
Book Description
Armitage's Garden Perennials is the most comprehensive single-volume photographic resource on perennial plants. It describes and illustrates the choice of perennials in 136 genera from Acanthus to Zauschneria.
The book's greatest strengths are the quality of its more than 1400 photographs, all taken by the author, and the exhaustive information on the most interesting, important, or overlooked perennial plants. Based on his own extensive experience — he has gardened in climates as dissimilar as Quebec and Georgia and studied plants on three continents — Armitage makes a discerning selection of the best cultivars, from classics to cutting-edge recent introductions.
The text is concise and delightful, like a private tutorial with a master teacher. The reader will have no doubt about which plants the author most admires ("What else do you know that is big, bold, and beautiful and wants to be planted in a bog?") and which fall short ("Variegated coral bells like 'Snowstorm' ought to be trashed. I am constantly told how wonderful they are. I don't listen. To each his own.")
The encyclopedia is rounded out by more than a dozen extensive lists of plants suitable for particular situations or uses, including plants for wet places, for drought tolerance, and for fragrance or color. It is a noteworthy addition to Timber Press's acclaimed series of pictorial encyclopedias that includes Dirr's Hardy Trees and Shrubs and Rick Darke's Color Encyclopedia of Ornamental Grasses.

Armitage Garden Perennials.......2007-07-29
I wanted a book that had a section of height and description of the flowers and how long the blooming season is and whether it did well in sun or shade. I would like to have been able to just open to the flower and find that information all in one place, but I have to read through the entire information on that particular plant to find all of this, so the book is not as useful to me as I thought it was going to be. It takes up too much of my time to find out what I want to know. I would like a better description of the books so I know more if it is what I want before I buy it.
Armitage's Garden Perennials: A Color Encyclopedia.......2007-01-09
Good pictures and good information. Useful as a book to show clients a picture of plants in a plan. Could use a consistent, easy to find section on the plant requirements. As a reference for designing this would help in finding appropriate plants for the project at hand.
Armitage's Garden Perennials.......2005-09-28
This is a nice book but not what I thought it was going to be. I am taking an online course for Perennials and this book was suggested as a suppliment to the textbook. It is a nice picture book that you can use to identify a flower.
Another Useful Armitage Book.......2005-08-13
Just received Armitage's Garden Perennials. It has as many pictures as the Annuals, LOTS more text.
I've spent many hours with the Annuals and I can say that had I had this book years ago I would have saved myself money and grief. It's amazing how many plants are not suited for Philly summers and are sold here nonetheless. I have thought for years I must have a genetic flaw, some disturbing lack that prevents me from growing decent dahlias. Armitage has assured me that it is not me, it is dahlias. That alone is worth the price of the book to me.
So many people are discouraged and give up gardening entirely because they think they have black thumbs when really the problem is the sale of plant material unsuited their area.
I work part time at an upscale nursery. Perrenials cost $15 and UP, annuals $5.00 for a 4" pot. A gardener at any level cannot afford to be without these books.
Plus there are so many pretty pictures!
Armitage's Garden Perennials. A Color Encyclopedia.......2003-06-03
Very disappointed. For the price I thought it would be comprehensive, but too many perennials in common usage are not included. Also, no visual distinction in writeups between description and how-to-grow, so you have to do a lot of reading to zero in on the information you want. What I like about it is that the author provides opinions as well as descriptions, the photos are very good, and the information helps you choose among perennials and among their varieties.

I loved this book! The idea is very original, and the photos are beautiful. As a gardener, I have been trying for years to get color in my yard all year, and this book was just what I needed. The idea of the Mystique surrounding the birthflowers is great too. I'd have to give it an A+, definately five stars!

This book is not only for garden enthusiasts, its for the novis as well. Makes the chore of creating color all year round in your garden fun! Also a bonus of your personality traits and history of your own birthflower. I'm born in September and my birthflower is Canna, What's yours? Read it! You'll enjoy it!

Best beginning gardener's book........1998-01-19
I was very disappointed to find that this book is no longer in print. It is by far the best book I have found for the beginning gardener. It's descriptions and colors for planning a garden and/or finding a type of flower, plant, or shrub are wonderful. It is a very easy book to follow in searching for what you are looking for.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

A Landmark in New Testament Studies.......2000-04-11
In Christ and the Future in NT History, professor Ellis brings under scrutiny some of the most controversial areas in NT studies. The two major sections of his book, dealing with christology and eschatology, collect Ellis's previously published articles on a number of highly disputed issues among NT scholars, such as: the perennial question of the historical Jesus, Christ's use of the Old Testament, the christology of John, Jesus and the resurrection, the intermediate state and the final destiny of the wicked, Pauline anthropology, and prophecy and tongues in the NT history. The book ends with an insightful section on the dating, the historicity and the canonization of the NT documents. Finally, the author tackles also with the foundational question of the relation between the Word of God and the Christian scriptures. Exegetical insights, historical background details, theological arguments and philosophical presuppositions, all of these make up a book that will be more than sure much discussed (and debated) in the years to come. This is due (if for no other reason) to the fact that Earl Ellis offers not only well informed and very articulate arguments, but especially because of his original perspective on quite a number of such issues. To mention only two of them, take Ellis' original view on the intermediate state in 2 Cor 5:1-10, and his treatment of the NT doctrine of hell. Such "departures" from the so-called "orthodoxy" (?) place him in a minority (yet growing) camp among those Evangelical scholars who reject the Greek based body-soul dualism as well as the notion of an unending punishment of the unsaved. One needs only to hope that in the near future, professor Ellis will come up with a more refined and popular version of his articles, (and at a more decent price!), so that the fruit of his research will impact not only the scholar but also the interested layperson.

WOW.......2000-01-24
Dr. Ellis, research professor of Theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, is outstanding in this volume, as he is in all of his books. He has brought more credit back to American theologians. He is well respected in Europe (mostly Germany where he studied) as well he should be. This work is unbelievable. A must for any pastor, preacher, teacher, or general student of the Bible. A word of warning, this is not for the casual reader of the Bible, though some of Dr. Ellis' books are written for lay people, this is not one of them. Have a background in formal theological education (such as Greek, Hebrew, Theology, etc. . .) or have a very good ability to look up words in a dictionary. This book is nothing less than stupendous. If you care at all about academic study of the Word, this book is cheap! You must buy it. Sell any books you have to get it! Also, buy his book "The Making of The New Testament Documents" it is more money, barely, but a good buy too!

Book Description
This book brings into focus the resurrection message of the New Testament. The chapters demonstrate how the resurrection both provides the basis for joyful living now despite the shadow of death and undergirds the Christian belief in a future after death.
Customer Reviews:
A good biblical treatment.......1999-12-07
If you thought scholarly discussions could not be edifying, this book proves you wrong. In keeping with the stated purpose of this series, this book attempts to bridge the gap between academic study and the life of the church. It does an admirable job of both. There is a wealth of information and discussion, but there is an impressive pastoral bent to many of the chapters.
To cite one example, the chapter, I am the Resurrection and the Life; The Resurrection Message of the Fourth Gospel, is a very well-done narrative critical picture of the Gospel of John and word study of resurrection vocabulary. It is a masterful example of wedding word studies and narrative theology into an engaging whole. While this (and other chapters) is not pre-packaged sermons or Bible classes they would serve as very helpful study material for such purposes.
Other chapters worthy of mention are the one on Acts by Joel Green and the one on the resurrection and the Christian life by G. Walter Hansen.
