Valuable Research Book.......2000-04-05
I have found this to be a wonderful research book for my own collection of perfumes and for on line buying and selling perfumes. I have the 1999 Revised Price Guide and have discovered it has been most helpful for bidding on line and it keeps me price smart. The descriptions are precise and clear with measurements of the perfumes. Very important to me is the section written about Reproductions. I would like to see this section updated, as the problem gets progressively larger every year. This book is very informative about atomizers, manufacturers and trade names of perfumes, what marks to look for pertaining to each perfume, with a section (most important to me) on jeweled purse bottles. This book has literally broadened my horizons on perfume bottles and boudoir accessories.
Book Description
Boudoir photography does not require its subject to be a beautiful, physically flawless woman. It does not require the use of extravagantly expensive equipments, props, and studio space. In fact, the very essence of boudoir photography is the idea that its subject is not a professional model and is not even necessarily in the boudoir. No longer confined to the idea of heavy makeup, lingerie, and the bedroom, the new age of boudoir photography is casual, sensual, and sexy. That is the premise behind Digital Boudoir Photography. Firmly grasping the freedom that digital photography affords, this book offers tips and techniques that allow anyone with a digital camera the ability to take attractive photographs of any woman.

Abundant illustrations; Many scenarios.......2007-06-07
There is much to learn and like from this book. As a photographer moving from photographing inanimate objects to people, I very much appreciated the breadth of information in this book. The author illustrates and covers solutions to several of the problems I've experienced, and helpful tips that have shaved a lot of time off my learning curve.
The steps and lessons are abundantly illustrated, showing how small changes can vastly improve the images. Showing how `bad' photos are made hits the point home of "oh yeah, I've made that mistake." Of particular interest was the use of models of various body-types and how to approach the challenges each one presents.
I refer to this book often as a reference; this is not just a one-time read, but contains pointers and lessons that can be reviewed and executed often.
With fast-changing technology, I expect the digital equipment sections to become outdated quickly, but this is a rather small portion of the book, and was not a factor in my buying it.
Not worth the money.......2007-02-20
The info in this book is ridiculously elementary for anyone with even intermediate experience with a camera. The models are not particularly attractive. And, while I appreciate the idea of making average-looking women look great in the image, even the resulting images are just average-looking and amateurish. Most of the shots do not look professionally done at all, but just look more like they were done my some guy with his new-fangled digital camera.
Sorry... but there are far better books out there on this topic, even for beginners.
From Pro Photograher Turned Amateur.......2006-12-19
Having retired from 25 plus years as a professional photographer I wanted to revert to being an advanced amateur. I have always enjoyed photography of women and had wanted for sometime to locate a book depicting boudoir photography with emphasis on lady next door type models. Most books I have seen on the subject use models who are either professional or could work as professionals. I don't have a desire to work with this type of model. This book has been a great place to start from.. The authors use of basic equipment is also to be commended. I am fortunate enough to have several strobe lights at my disposal however many would not.
The only disappointment is the fact that the author does not include photos of even more Rubenesque figured models and more mature (ok older) models. The photographs of the models he does use are very nicely done
Other than that small short coming I feel this book will be very useful to me in my new found hobby and was a good investment.

A clear, outstanding survey, DIGITAL BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY is a top pick for portrait photographers.......2006-12-14
Digital Boudoir Photography: A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Fabulous Images of Any Woman isn't about capturing beauty on film; it's about a new style of boudoir photography which doesn't involve professional models or movie stars, and which seeks to avoid the use of heavy makeup and props in favor of casual, sensual approaches. Photographers will find it an excellent guide to this sytle which covers everything from boudoir-appropriate props and settings to displaying body parts tastefully both outdoors and indoors. A clear, outstanding survey, DIGITAL BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY is a top pick for portrait photographers seeking to move beyond the usual settings and approaches.

Great idea book........2006-12-02
I have several books on glamour and erotic photography and I find this book by John Blair to be one of the most useful. The photos are mostly taken with equipment available to the average amateur, shot in locations available to most, and the models look like real women. As much as I enjoy "Garage Glamour" there isn't much garage to it -- without thousands of dollars in lighting and equipment and a fabulous and luxurious home to shoot in and Playmates to pose for you, you're just not going to get the kind of results R. Gomez does. On the other hand, following Blair's step by step approach, most people should expect similar results to his, particularly if they use bounce flash shot through a reflector dome such as Gary Fong's Lightsphere. In fact the flash technique alone is worth the price of the book. This is a book I turn to again and again.
Book Description
From the acclaimed author of Mattanza, a remarkable collection of intertwined stories about the unknown hill towns and villages of Sicily.
In this sparkling book, Theresa Maggio takes us on a journey in search of Sicily's most remote and least explored mountain towns. Using her grandparents' ancestral village of Santa Margherita Belice as her base camp, she pores over old maps to plot her adventure, selecting as her targets the smallest dots with the most appealing names. Her travels take her to the small towns surrounding Mt. Etna, the volcanic islands of the Aeolian Sea, and the charming villages nestled in the Madonie Mountains.
Whether she's writing about the unique pleasures of Sicilian street food, the damage wrought by molten lava, the ancient traditions of Sicilian bagpipers, or the religious processions that consume entire villages for days on end, Maggio succeeds in transporting readers to a wholly unfamiliar world, where almonds grow like weeds and the water tastes of stone. In the stark but evocative prose that is her hallmark, Maggio enters the hearts and heads of Sicilians, unlocking the secrets of a tantalizingly complex culture.
Although she makes frequent forays to villages near and far, she always returns to Santa Margherita, where she researches her family tree in the municipio, goes on adventures with her cousin Nella, and traces the town's past in history and literature. A beautifully wrought meditation on time and place, The Stone Boudoir will be treasured by all who love fine travel writing.

Proud Sicilian-Italian-American.......2007-05-27
I'm half Italian, half Sicilian, and I've spent most of my life traveling and learning about mainland Italy. I always wanted to visit Sicily, and this book allowed me to see my Motherland through Maggio's experiences there. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. I felt like I was there with her, and it left me with a better understanding of the island, the people, and the traditions.
I was actually reading the book while on vacation to Malta, and my husband, noticing my interest in the book, booked a day trip to Sicily on my 25th birthday!
A great book to read when going to Sicily.......2006-07-29
This book was simply a delight, the perfect companion to my first trip to Sicily. The author does a great job of telling stories that entertain and educate at the same time. It is current in it's timing yet covers the ages well. It really enhanced my visit and I looked forward to reading it every night.
Pure Poetry.......2005-10-08
In The Stone Boudoir, Theresa Maggio has taken the fascination she has for the land of her grandparents and transmuted it into words of pure gold that vividly distill the essence of the Sicily she calls the "island's hidden treasure and the secret spring of Sicilian endurance."
The Sicily she goes in search of lies far beneath the radar of most guidebooks. In The Stone Boudoir, you will not find discussed, for example, Taormina, that once-mystical place now ruined by shops. Indeed, with the exception of Catania and, perhaps, Mondello (a suburb of Palermo), Maggio's discoveries are made in small towns, often high up on mountain tops and off the beaten track.
Each chapter of the book is a standalone essay - really a short story based on her explorations - and the fact that there is no discernable timeline connecting them all adds to the book's charm and eliminates what might otherwise be tedious and irrelevant backstory. Each story is a gem: the old people recall the night of the earthquake that destroyed the town from which Maggio's grandparents had emigrated; an old woman returns to the long-abandoned home of her childhood and finds a treasure; the author follows the two-day procession of a bejeweled effigy of a saint in Catania. The places in the stories sent me scurrying for my map of Sicily and wishing I were planning a trip there soon.
I had one small complaint about this book (hardback version): the endpapers are maps of Sicily colored dark blue with much detail in fine print; consequently, they are completely unreadable. A simpler, readable map showing the locations of the places mentioned in the book would be a welcome addition to any future edition.
But this is a small complaint about a book that gave me much pleasure. Brava, Theresa!
Boring and dull. Dull and boring........2005-04-16
I found this book to be flat, dull and boring and the authour to be rather self-congratulatory. The author travels from one small Sicilian town to another trying to ... do what? I dunno. I read every word, and she didn't have much to say about Sicily or her people except that she likes them. She really likes them!
As the series of vignettes progressed, it became difficult to follow any kind of time line. What happened when and with whom? Dunno. I am still unclear on how this book of little stories was organized, if indeed it was.
Finally, I don't know that I gleaned anything from the book except that the author really likes Sicily and she's really glad that she got to live there and she's really lucky that anyone would publish her book.
maybe (too) romantic but very good read.......2005-03-04
I am rather familiar with sicily,,,,therefore, although this book may (sometimes)verge on romantic times gone past, this is a VERY GOOD AND EASY READ. At least, i can relate easily to the passion with which the author narrates her genuine experiences in this land,,, It is also true that nowadays, within a few areas, some greed and bad decisions (called progress) have affected some areas adversely, but admitteldly, alot of effort is being made to reverse this.
A melting pot of culture, history, emotions, tradition, beautiful landscapes,,,this is Sicily. BUT this mixture MAY be a little bit of a challenge for some!

Perhaps the unique feature of this book is that it is as much a romance novel as it is a cookbook. The 308-page book features almost 200 recipes only found at Louisiana bed and breakfasts. It is an anthology on the origin of breakfast as an event in New Orleans.

Beautiful Cookbook.......2007-03-10
I have long wanted to write a review of this book and I am finally doing so. I just want to say that this is the most beautiful cookbook I have ever seen! The photos are wonderful and the recipes and the format are great. I love the way John Folse visited each bed and breakfast finding special recipes. It is a joy to own this book and I cannot praise the lovely people enough for the hard work and love that I can tell went into this cookbook. Thank you for it!!
Magnificant recipes, Fantastic photos, Wonderful reading.......2000-03-01
I recieved this book for Christmas 1999 and fell in love with it and the chef! The quality of the book is GREAT and the recipes are easy to prepare with no unusual ingredients found in most books. Although I live in New England, I love to experiment with different cooking styles and this book walks me through it with ease and flavor. It has become my favorite gift for friends...especially those who love to cook!
A great cookbook, a wonderful gift.......2000-02-07
This is a cookbook that's too pretty to keep in the kitchen! The recipes are fantastic and really capture the flavor of Louisiana cooking, but the pictures capture the soul of Louisiana. I can almost hear John Folse's Donaldsonville accent as I read the recipes and the descriptions of Louisiana's bed and breakfasts.
Some recipes are simply down-home and delicious like Frog in a Hole. Others are more elaborate like the Giant Mushrooms stuffed with Crawfish and Tasso. All of it is Cajun cuisine from a native Louisianian's perspective--a refreshing change from hearing how those from the frozen nawth cook Cajun. Folse even tells his readers how to cook a Cajun roux!
I received this book as a gift, and I liked it so much that I am buying a copies as gifts.

Oh, but there's so much more!.......2007-05-02
I thought Incest was really well written (much like Lolita, where the content is filthy but you can't help but fall in love with the writer for how gifted he is with language), so I checked this one out next. Initially, Philosophy in the Boudoir came off as porn for the thinking man and nothing more - and really, everything has its place - but about halfway into the book there appeared some interesting philosophy that really completes some of what the Marquis got into with Incest. He further develops arguments on morality here, and if you're a Camus fan, a good deal of these arguments are actually pretty compatible with Camus, too. If you can get past (or enjoy?) all the anal sex bits, this is actually some pretty smart philosophy with what appears to be Marquis de Sade's characters debating either side of his own arguments.
Anally Penetrating Virgins for Dummies!.......2007-02-06
This is the ultimate how-to guide. Instead of learning how to nail stupid boards together or talk like a foreign-man, this will teach you the delicious art of taking a young woman and filling her tight holes like they belonged to a thanksgiving turkey on thanksgiving. Pregnancy an issue? Throw it in the back! There is less disease that way, anyway. Worried about your lover's pleasure? Be like Dolmance and ignore their twaddling neediness in favor of your own robust genitals and put those genitals in whomever you please. The morals of your era are only there for God to harvest all the unhappiness and pent-up semen of the world, in order to build his towering masterwork, Queen Victoria II. None of this even mentions the cover! This book has apparently been around for years, but none of those editions had illustrations of naked ladies being debauched so completely! It makes me proud to read it in public. I highly recommend this book, not only to young virgins, but anyone who knows a young virgin, or is looking to. Chris Hansen, eat your heart out.
Disgusting.......2007-01-07
I bought this book based on what was written on the inside flaps, and it sounded really interesting. 2 pages into it I was so disgusted and I can't wait to get my money back. The author was put in prison, then sentenced to death, and finally placed in a mental institution...and after 2 pages it is clear that this is the work of a derranged and sadistic individual. ICK.
