Book Description
Rabbits are popular domesticated pets, but many develop problems because of living conditions that do not allow them to follow their behavioral instincts. This guide to troubleshooting rabbit behavior clues owners in to the history of the domesticated rabbit and describes how rabbits live and breed. Common problems among rabbit owners are discussed, as are probable causes for irregular behavior, including instincts that make rabbits behave in certain ways. Both hutch and house rabbits, as well as troubles specific to each, are covered.

Interesting, Informative Book On Rabbit Behavior.......2007-02-23
I read this book straight through the day I bought it, and it was a fascinating book on rabbit behavior. It was a good book to read through, and it provided a whole lot of information about rabbit behavior. I'm going to have to read it multiple times to glean all of the information it presented.
There were some things that bothered me though. Because the heart of the book, information dealing with specific rabbit behaviors and how best to deal with them, was based on letters from specific people with specific rabbits a lot of the information was too specific, and as such many, many behaviors were missing, although I suppose it would be impossible to cover all of them.
Another thing that I found difficult was that it was written from a very Brittish perspective, so some of the terms and information were at best unrelatable and at worse contridictary to the way things are in America. I suppose this is something that is rather hard to avoid considering she is in England and all the experience and research as the base of this book is from there.
All in all, this was a very good book, but for me the omissions and cultural differences lowered the book's overall appeal.
Now I know why my rabbit..........2006-11-10
Before you buy one, read up! Before you give up on a bunny, read this book! Before you know it, your bunny with be your buddy, too! My bunny and I bonded immediately but he wasn't always mindful of my rules... now I know why he needs to dig and chew and I provide alternatives for him. He has his own bedroom that has been completely bunny-proofed and is allowed in the half of the house that has no carpet. Cords are covered in cloth and he seems to leave them alone now. He is the best pet I have ever had and is as affectionate as a dog and as playful as a cat. He is litter trained, and I feed him only vegies and hay. This book helped me understand his fear of being in the open yard with me, and to expect him to chew and dig because he is a rabbit.
Didn't help me..........2005-09-08
I got this book from the library, after my shipment was canceled by the sender. I am happy I didn't pay for it, as it did not help me at all. I wanted to know why my rabbit did normal things, like running around our legs, pooing around his litterbox, ect. This book only covered major problems that people might have with a rabbit, like aggressivness, stealing food or clothes, and fear. If your bunny is fine, get it from the library. If your bunny has some issues, get it from the libary, and read how to stop it. If your bunny needs a lot of help with many issues, then I think the book would be helpful.
A must read for anyone with rabbits........2004-03-15
This is the most comprehensive easy-to-read book on rabbit behavior I have found. I've had rabbits for five years and read a lot about their behavior. However, this book taught me so much more. I now have a much better understanding of why my rabbits do the things they do. What I especially like about this book is that it addresses issues for both indoor and outdoor rabbits. I didn't realize how many mistakes I was making when I let my rabbits "roam free" outside in nice weather. For example, I did not realize that vast, open spaces in the outdoors are frightening for rabbits, especially if they don't have some enclosure in which to hide. I will not make that mistake again.
Overall, this is an excellent book. It has given me much deeper insight into my rabbits' behaviors.
Help! My rabbit is Driving Me Crazy!.......2003-06-12
Rabbits can be irresistible. It is not uncommon for people to visit a pet store or go to a county fair and come home with a rabbit. How much trouble can such a cute critter be? Plenty! Rabbits are curious creatures that seem to get themselves in trouble all of the time. Since rabbits are "prey" rather than predators, they act quite differently from dogs and cats, which often requires a different approach to care. Rabbits also have very distinct personalities. The personality of a rabbit needs to be taken into consideration when owning a rabbit. With know legible advice, rabbits can be fantastic pets. Books such as Why Does My Rabbit...? can be indispensable in caring and loving a pet rabbit.
The book is divided into three parts. The first part deals with care of the rabbit, the second part discusses scientific information about the rabbit. The third portion of the book is probably most helpful. It is an alphabetical listing of just about any imaginable aspect of caring for a pet rabbit. The book is enjoyable to read because the author is not only an expert on animals as pets, she is also a rabbit lover. This book will be very helpful for people considering a rabbit as a pet and a true gift for those who have acquired a rabbit, have fallen in love with it, but don't know what to do with this adorable little rascal that seems to find mischief in every possible place.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful book with excellent information!.......2003-05-11
After reading so many guinea pig care books with often inaccurate to down-right dangerous information, this book was a delightful surprise!! Wonderful and truthful information about environment and care!
I would have given it 5-stars but had to take one off for emphasizing the need for guinea pig companionship with their own kind and then *not* adequately dealing with prevention of the breeding. (The author, a behavioral biologist, believes in the animal's innate right to breed. Unfortunately, there are so many unwanted pets needing homes, it seems irresponsible not to address other possible solutions such as same-sex pairing.)
Overall, though, this book ranks as one of the best that I've seen and any guinea pig lucky enough to have an owner that follows the guidelines in this book will be very happy and very spoilt indeed!
Good, reliable information.......2002-02-20
This book is pretty good at providing quality information. However, this book offers few tips about grooming, specific breeds, and safety information (ex: what they can't eat) This book has many good tips and great pictures. It also covers how to get acquainted with your guinea pig, which I have not seen in many other books. Overall, I would reccomend it highly.
Well Organized Guinea Pig Care Book.......2001-08-18
This is a well organized book on guinea pigs for both the novice young owner and a more experienced owner. The graphic designs and page layouts are especially well done. "Tips From the Vet" are highlighted effectively for the reader and there is a sprinkling of humor throughout. Almost all phases of guinea pig care are covered in a practical manner for both adults and younger cavy owners. I recommend it highly.
Book Description
One little girl has a pet hamster, and she takes good care of it. She gives it fresh water and the right kind of food, she cleans its cage, and she calls it by name. Read and find out all about hamsters -- what they eat, when they sleep, and how an owner can keep her pet healthy and happy.
This simple introduction to pets and pet care is also a first step into understanding animal classification, as readers learn the difference between tame and wild animals. Simple, clear language and lively art make this a treat for every child who's ever begged for a pet.

This is a nice book for the child hamster owner, perhaps for reading even before the pet is purchased. It does not contain all the details that a hamster owner might need, but it covers basic behavior and how to treat the pet. Cute photos, too!

Very thorough.......2006-03-22
We are getting two gerbils for our 5 year old son and I have read nearly everything I can get my hands on. This book contains the lots of information while not being too wordy. I was able to read much of it to my son.
If you're only going to buy one book on gerbils this should be it.

Two fine 'Welcome Books' easy readers on pets invite kids to learn more about their animal companions. Cate Foley's My Turtle (0-516-23188-X) provides large simple print and a child's review of different types of turtles and their appropriateness as pets. Sarah Hughes' My Guinea Pig (23186-3) presents a girl's experiences caring for her guinea pig. Both are very easy introductions to pet ownership.

Review for My pet Hamster & Gerbil.......2001-04-08
My pet Hamster & Gerbils is a book with neccesary facts and tips about raising Hamsters and Gerbils. Although this book is written with information off a fourth grade kid, it gives it in an understandable way, easy for children to read. Not only does it tell you how to care for these animals but tells the history and interesting facts. The pictures in the book are wonderful. I really love the photography done. It persuades you to buy a hamster or gerbil.

Customer Reviews:
Some good ideas............2002-06-20
I received this book as a gift, and I am grateful for it. It does have some good ideas, some that I hadn't thought about, some different ways of doing things. It helps to think in different ways, do some brain-exercising.
Simple and Informative.......2000-12-01
What I like about this book is that it foregoes any esoterica and costuming theory in favor of good old fashioned practicality. The reader doesn't have to sift through the excruciating snobby details, but instead is given the real lowdown as if visiting with a best friend who happens to be a costume mistress.
This book focuses mainly on costuming for low-budget productions (such as community theatre or a school play), providing useful information and advice on making good-looking costumes from already existing garments and/or thrift store offerings. Information abounds about time period, costume cuts & styles, ways to splurge or skimp on your costumes and still have them look fabulous, as well as details that an inexperienced costumer might overlook (such as using velcro instead of buttons for ease in costume changes).
I would highly recommend this to anyone who is involved in costuming for a production, or anyone who simply loves costumes and loves to recycle old clothes into great new ones. I love this book and have read through it several times just for inspiration.
cosstuming on small budget.......2000-05-18
An excellent book of ideas and help for someone wanting to learn to costume for community theatre. It contains excellent examples of her own work that is easy to follow. It does not overload your brain with useless information. A good starting out book, that aids a person in organizing the information , and research problems needed to suceeded in this field. Also a good read for veterans of the design buisness to give fresh ideas and back up what they have done . After 35 years finally I have found someone who appreciates the use of thrift stores , goodwill and lace curtains for stage costumes. Thank you Shirley for putting it into words and pictures.
