Locked in a tall, stony tower by her overprotective father, little princess Roselupin longs to venture into the "wild and dangerous" world. So when she receives a mysterious golden box full of yarn for her seventh birthday, Roselupin takes matters--and knitting needles--into her own hands. She knits herself a magical red wolf suit, and, suddenly grown gigantic, bursts out of her tower into the wild world. Free at last, our newly furry heroine dances "her wolfy dance" and howls "her wolfy howl." It's only when she heads deep into the forest that her adventure begins to unravel.
Margaret Shannon's tale has a deliciously Where the Wild Things Are flavor, with its own fresh twist. The image of a giddy, gigantic, cherry-red wolf frolicking over the trees near the kingdom is utterly unforgettable, as are the beautiful spreads showing Roselupin shrinking into the darkening forest, followed by a red thread. An understated surprise ending will either bemuse or gratify readers, who will cheer at the princess's hard-earned freedom, regardless. (Ages 4 to 8) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
Roselupin has had quite enough of being locked away in her tower room. Her father the king thinks he needs to protect her from the wild and dangerous world outside, but Roselupin knows better. Twice.

Buy Sendak's book instead........2007-06-07
I was disappointed with this book. I did not like that her father kept her locked away, how he mocked her when she recieved her "gift," and how she turned her father into a mouse. There are so many bad influences on children today, I don't need a book telling them that they don't need to listen to their parents. I am my childrens biggest advocate. Buy "Where the Wild Things Are." Altough the boy gets mad at his mother and runs away (in his mind) he comes home because he loves his mom and knows she loves him even when he has been bad. The illustrations in "The Red Wolf" are wonderful, but not good enough to make it worth the clearnce price I bought it for.
Feminist Fairytale.......2007-05-06
I first heard this story read on NPR and I loved it. The illustrations are big and beautiful. This story is about Rose Lupin whose father "TRIES" to keep her in a tower. I love this book because the princess frees herself! A copy of The Red Wolf goes to every new baby girl I know!
My What Big Eyes You Have .......2007-03-25
I have a 3 year old son, he likes the book, but his 5 year old cousin Lindsay LOVES this book. I tend to really get into it when I'm reading to the kids. You know a different voice for each character, whispering when something scary is about to happen etc... I swear, I had never seen her eyes grow so wide as I did with this book. Oh wait, I have seen them almost pop out when I've chased her acting like a hungry bear :-)
Delicate Defiance: The Red Wolf.......2007-03-11
Brimming with mystique and echoes of Sendak, this fresh fairy tale subtly, yet powerfully, casts light on the costs of safety and the value of freedom. Our whole family is entranced by this fabulous book.
Lush and different.......2003-07-31
I bought this book because I heard them review it on NPR. It was not a disappointment. The drawings do have a Sendak feel to them, but they are freer and looser than the tight ink drawings in Where the Wild Things Are. The story has a different twist to it. One thing I love about it is that instead of the princess being focused on getting a man, this princess yearns for freedom and a chance to play. That's a nice change of pace from all the Cinderellas and Sleeping Beautys and I think teaches a better lesson. This is my second copy, because my niece discovered this one day while playing here and fell in love with it immediately.
Book Description
Little readers will love second-guessing this funny, fractured fairy tale that replays the story of Little Red Riding Hood from the poor maligned wolf's point of view.
No, please. Look at me.
Would I LIE to you?
It was the old woman who started it.
Everyone knows there are at least two sides to every story, and if you believe in the big-eared, sharp-toothed villain of LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD, there's a logical explanation for everything. As our antihero tells it, it all starts with the helpful wolf doing odd jobs for Grandma (are you sure you don't want to sit a little closer?). How was he to know that he spoiled Little Red would come along and ruin a good working relationship? Zooming in dramatically from strategic angles, the amusing illustrations offer visual clues that this is a story to be taken with a grain of salt - and a lot of giggling.
Customer Reviews:
A Fine Example of when the Illustrator and Author do not speak...........2007-09-10
Although I think the illustrations are lovely I really disagree with the previous reviewer. During a residency for a Library Science class we were asked to look at ARC of some children's books and this was one of the titles I chose. I found the illustrations did not match the text. The illustrations would have been fine for the original tale of Little Red Riding Hood. But for a reverse of the tale it did not work. The wolf was too scary and one does not sympathize with scary creatures. I would not recommend this title.
Beware the Wolf's Story!.......2006-01-21
Toby Forward hails from Liverpool, England and has written another fine book for children - "The Wolf's Story: What Really Happened to Little Red Riding Hood". Wonderfully illustrated by Ishar Cohen of Palestine, the artwork reinforces the perspective of the wolf on the events in the traditional Little Red Riding Hood story, retold here by the wolf thanks to Toby Forward.
First of all, nothing that happened in the Little Red Riding Hood story was the wolf's fault - "Would I lie to you? It was the old woman who started it". He says that he was just a friendly wolf doing odd jobs for Grandma - "Anyway, I did odd jobs for the old woman. Called her Grandma". Then that spoiled Little Red Riding Hood showed up and ruined everything - "so I leaped out of bed, ...Then she started screaming". Now that you know the truth, you can trust a wolf, can't you? "Do I LOOK like the sort of wolf who goes around eating grandmas?", he asks.
This book is a good example of dishonesty and lying, which the wolf engages in throughout his story. The story helps children to tell the difference between a truthful statement and a false statement that purports to be true. Children learn what it is called when someone says something that is not true - it is called a lie.
This book can be used as an introduction to discussing types of dishonesty with your child, from exaggerating, flattery, twisting the truth, and not telling the whole truth (so you don't get into trouble) to cheating on tests or outright lying. For extension, children can go to www.ImpeachBlair.org and read the lies that Blair manufactured for Bush to do American-powered British empire against Iraqis. Helping children develop honesty and the ability to detect dishonesty is important to their ability to make their own decisions despite attempts by others to manipulate them, whether it be their peers, politicians, or consumer culture.
In short, a wonderful book to help your child detect dishonesty.
Product Description
This collection of essays, written by Center for Court Innovation research staff, analyzes the impact of a broad range of problem-solving initiatives launched in New York State and nationwide over the past decade. Among the findings: judicially monitored drug treatment succeeds in reducing recidivism among addicted offenders; more than 85 percent of offenders at an experimental community court thought their cases were handled fairlya significant improvement compared to conventional courts; by linking mentally ill offenders to community-based treatment instead of incarceration, courts can help improve offenders functioning and reduce the likelihood of re-arrest. The book also includes overviews of the national research literature on drug courts and community courts; an evaluation of a new approach to teen dating violence; and an investigation of how problem-solving principles might be integrated more broadly throughout state court systems.

Even adults will enjoy this book!.......2000-06-18
This book should be in every upper elementary and junior highschool library within the red wolf's former range. Smith does anexcellent job of explaining all aspects of saving an endangered species and getting it back into the wild. The book is filled with beautiful photos, and the text is informative and readable. His use of dialog at the beginning of each chapter draws in the reader. A truly wonderful book!

It talks about the disappearence and appearence of wolves.......1999-05-14
This book talked about how wolves became endangered or extinct in North America, how we can prevent this disater, and their behavior, range, food, and habitat. It even has adresses for more wolf information! If you are a wolf lover or you are willing to know more about it you should get this book! It deserves five stars.
Customer Reviews:
It did what it could.......2004-08-27
The authors of this tribebook did what they could for this tribebook. However, the tribe by its nature limited what could be done for the book. The history of the tribe is limited, and the archetypes are uninspiring. It does a good job relating what it is like to be a lupus, but that's its only real credit, asides from the typical "crunchy bits".
Book Changes Opinions on Tribe.......2003-01-12
Red Talons. You may not think they're the best tribe in the World of Darkness given to you by White Wolf, but this book shows the Garou through the Talons' eyes- and how extreme they are when it comes to dealing with humans- they spoke out against stopping the Impergium! The Tribebook is very well done, giving you what you'd expect in any tribebook- gifts, rites, camps in the tribe, a history of it, etc. This book goes beyond what would normally be expected- I found myself loving the Red Talons by the time I was finished, and the book made it a lot easier for me to 'think' and mentally 'see' how I would roleplay as a Lupus of any breed, besides. Definitely a must-have, even if you're not fond of the Talons initially. You'll wind up loving them.
Customer Reviews:
Starts slow but ends better than my expectations........2005-11-03
The beginning of the story started off very badly. For one Joan, had to explain everything to the reader instead of incorporating it in the story and letting it unfold naturally. She took several breaks from the story to explain the surroundings or the beliefs of the people, which we heard over and over again like a broken record. Second, when Alin and the girls were kidnapped, their kidnappers were very kind about it and personally as nice as the kidnappers were and as much as Joan described Alin to be a very well developed hunter I would have expected a little more than a fight from Alin and the girls. Plus, to ensure realism to the reader we want real characters and no matter what the reason for the kidnapping, the kidnappers are not going to be nice enough and explain their reasoning before conducting their extraction. It just didn't feel real and also, their was no language barrier...for as far away as the Horse men were from the People of the Red Deer their language barrier was non-existent, which is not at all realistic and a little too convienant. One of the characters also gets injured about mid-story and I was displeased to know that he didn't die...it talked about how his insides were hanging out of his body and he recovered...and well I don't particular care for death but the fact still remains that death is an unavoidable occurance and for Joan to spare it's readers of all unfortunes is a little disapointing because even though it is fiction it should still sound real, at least once upon a time. Even the characters that were supposed to be evil weren't as evil as I know some humans can be...and for a large tribe such as that to not have real enemies within is also a little unbelievable. Generally, the story line was very nice though and the romance was good and Joan actually allowed the reader to experience some suspense before giving Alin to Mar. But even the trials that Mar faced were not that difficult...he seemed to kill the horse with ease and survive the raging, cold river with ease...Where is the real conflict? Towards the end it did seem to unfold itself a little better than the beginning and overall it was a decent story...not a Jean Auel or Sue Harrison novel but it does have potential. I understand this was Joan Wolf's first pre-history fictional novel and the research, as far as I know, was good. I give it 3 stars and recommend this book to those that are running out of good pre-historical fiction books and would like something to pass the time.
A pre-historic love story.......2002-02-02
I read this book at first with a bit of apprehension, would it turn into a "men are evil and women are sinless" kind of a story?
I am happy to say it did not. It is a fresh story of love and partnership set in ancient France 14,000 years ago. Alin and Mar learn to see eye to eye in their two seperate views of life. A good yarn followed by the just as good "The Horsemasters", which is set several years later.(the young girl Fali is now the Old One)
Prehistoric Romance.......2001-07-09
An enchanting tale about life in prehistoric France. How tribes interacted and customs change. A love story with a great ending. I enjoyed this book more than Jean Auel's books. Quicker paced, harder to put down.
The greatest book for historical fiction lovers........2000-04-14
I read this book in my late teens and found it to be completly spell-binding. My first book that actully held me with pleasure for reading! Note; i do not believe that this book is sutiable for people under 16 years of age. But for us adults, it is wonderfull!

Another Great Wolf Story from London.......2000-07-22
She-Wolf has a secret. She and her mate are on the move, traveling through wetlands and snow covered forests. The earth stands still to listen to their song as they howl beneath the moonlit sky. They hunt together preying upon rabbits or swamp crabs. They are in search of a den. As they near a farmhouse a farmer shoots at them and they lunge into a cold icy river to escape. Struggling to survive, they search for higher and more distant lands far from humans. In spring their pups are born and we are left hoping that humans will allow them to live in their world. Again, Jonathan London magnificently captures the spirit of these great creatures while Daniel San Souci's illustrations reflect the true beauty of the endangered red wolf. In 1987, red wolves were released into wilderness areas. Now over one hundred inhabit the lands of "Red Wolf Country": Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, Bull Island, Horn Island, St. Vincent Island and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Roland Smith, the former red wolf species coordinator for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service writes in an afterword an informative history about the red wolf. Red Wolves were plentiful in the southeastern U.S. until the mid-1960's when, through the destruction of natural habitat and thoughtless activities of hunters, trappers, ranchers and farmers, they became extinct. A few wolves were found in Texas and Louisiana and, for their own protection, they were placed in captivity and later released in N. Carolina's islands off the shores of Florida, Mississippi, and S. Carolina and , in fall 1991, in Tennessee's Great Smokies National Park. Now there are approximately 100 red wolves running free.

Kids love it!.......2005-04-03
I read this book to my preschoolers during our annual hop-a-thon for the MDA. The kids do not even think about Red being in a wheelchair until I point it out. The kids just see a familiar character and laugh at the antics in the story. It is a great book for teaching that children with disabilities are just like other children.

Lingers on the mind long after read .......2005-03-18
Dramatically narrated by Stanley McGeagh, Summer Of The Red Wolf by Morris West is the riveting story of one man who struggled to deal with and ultimately overcome the complexities and torments of his everyday life. Traveling to Scotland to fight his own inner demons, he discovers love, honor, and himself along the way. Morris West is an experienced and accomplished novelist whose books have been translated into 27 languages. Summer Of The Red Wolf, which brilliantly showcases those feelings of restlessness and yearnings for self-discovery which so hallmarks contemporary life, is another of his masterfully written, reader engaging novels which tend to linger on the mind long after they are read and put back upon the shelf. Also available in an audiocassette format, this 8 CD Bolinda library edition is a superbly recorded, complete and unabridged production which is confidently recommended for library audiobook collections.
A mythic journey to the highlands.......1999-12-07
This is the story of a man struggling with anomie who travles to scotland to fight his inner demons and discovers love, honor and himself along the way. This book has most of Mr. West's normal themes but captures the feelings of restlessness which seem to be so common in these modern times.

I love this book. I'm totally stoked on the projects I've created with it. I've learned a lot from this book unlike another boring sewing book my mom gave me, "Sewing for dummies". This is a rad beginner book as well as alterations and fittings. Any level of sewing should be able to get something from it. I also think the Sew Fast Sew Easy book is a great book to have first.

They offer sewing classes to the public in New York City and have been for the past 15 years. I found that they had online video classes and my girlfriend took the men's underwear video. This book is radical. My mom got me a couple sewing books. This is by far my fav. The other she got me, "sewing for dummies" was boring and didn't include patterns to work on. This book taught me a lot and I moved on to the Rip It! book which I also love. Do the skirt pattern and add a belt, it's so hot right now. I love wearing the clothes I've made to school. This is a sales pamphlet disguised as a book.......2004-03-23
I received this book today and I'm just sick to my stomach that I paid so much for a sales gimmic. Each chapter describes in detail why you need to buy thier franchise and patterns to have a sewing business. You won't be able to take this book and start teaching students. There's not even information about their pricing or franchise fees. I feel like I was ripped off. To top it off the book is cheaply bound in a spiral and printed on the front of a page and the back is blank. So the number of pages is deceptive. Don't waste your money on this one, keep looking.
