If you want to tryTeabag Paper with patterns.......2006-08-24
This book provides patterened sheets for use in Teabag ( Kaleidoscope) folding. There are 24 sheets different sheets of paper although some of the patterns are quite similar. Each of these patterns is about 8.5 by 1.5 inches. The paper is of good quality with a glossy finish. Each sheet is notched at the edges to produce 35 2'inch squares for folding. One just has to be careful to cut properly (ie use paper trimmer, paper cutter, or paper guillotine, avoid sissors), so the squares will be the same. Thus producing desired results to show the pattern when folded and assembled.
At the end of the book, there are instructions for 12 different Teabag Folding techniques and shapes they can make.
I practiced with square post-it notes to get the folding technique before I used the patterned paper from the book.
Book Description
This long-awaited book is the first to focus solely on the brilliant but often neglected interiors and furniture of the great British architect Sir Edwin Landseer Lutyens (1869-1944).
Lutyens's lifelong creative partnership with landscape designer Gertrude Jekyll spurred the revival of the English country garden, and his designs-rooted in the English Arts and Crafts movement but inspired by Classicism-remain popular today for their clean lines, angles, and contrasts. Published with the cooperation of the Lutyens family, and illustrated with specially commissioned and archival photographs of intact or restored interiors and gardens, original furniture designs, and contemporary reinterpretations of the Lutyens style, the book provides fresh insight into a design genius whose masterful synthesis of function and artistry has enduring relevance and appeal.
ELIZABETH WILHIDE was born in the United States and has lived in England since the late 1960s. She is a leading expert on interior design who has written, co-authored, or contributed to dozens of books on the subject, including Abrams' William Morris: Decor & Design.
CANDIA LUTYENS, who has contributed the foreword, is the great-niece of Sir Edwin Lutyens. She lives in England.
116 illustrations, 90 in full color, 9 x 10"
Customer Reviews:
Lutyens houses come alive.......2007-03-27
Although this book was published in 2000, I was surprised to find no customer had yet reviewed it. It is a little different from other books on the work of Sir Edwin Lutyens.
First of all, most of the photographs are in color, bringing the subjects to life in a way that was not possible in previous books, many of them relying largely on old photographs from Country Life magazine. Thus we get a much more real feeling of those classic Lutyen houses, nestling into their incredible English gardens (largely designed by Gertrude Jekyll) and see how the design is carried on through to the interiors. All the favorite Lutyens houses are there - Goddards, Orchards, Little Thakeham, Munstead Wood, Deanery Garden, Marsh Court and more.
Another difference in this book is that it deals not only with the architecture but also with the design of the interiors, the architectural fixtures and accessories and the furniture, which in themselves are amazing - they bow to tradition, yet look to the future - and many have been borrowed by more than one modern designer.
This book is well worth consideration.

Factual and Visual Guide to the World of Jane Austen.......2001-10-11
I bought this book after being pleased but not satisfied with Maggie Lane's "Jane Austen's World." This book is a much more indepth guide to the world of the Regency. It includes many pictures of the interior of Regency houses and much more on the fashion of the day, including pictures and terms that will be helpful if researching or just very curious about the costuming of the day. While "Jane Austen's World" had much much more on Jane Austen's life and family, this book takes a much more indepth look at the times of the author including entertainment, exterior and interior of the homes and the fashion. I recommend this to anyone interested in learning more about the Regency or interested in writing a story, play, etc. about the period. Visually and factually satisfying.
Jane Austen: In Style.......2000-12-16
I bought this book because I was interested in Jane Austen. The book is divided up into sections such as country life, clothing, manners, food, etc. with a lot of details about this time and how it relates to Jane's life and situations. The book is lavishly illustrated with full page color photographs, and smaller pictures of Jane, Cassandra, and articles made or used by the Austen Family. It is well written and fun to read. It makes a good starting point for getting the feel of what life was like in Georgian England.

Luscious photographs and extremely practical decorating advice combine to make this volume both a delight to behold and an excellent resource for anyone looking to emulate the English-cottage look at home. Solid information on basic stylistic elements and on choosing colors and fabrics lays the groundwork for a room-by-room survey of lovely spaces. From entryways and family living spaces to bedrooms, bathrooms, home offices, and outdoor living areas, the text, the photos, and the captions offer wonderful verbal and visual advice on why these rooms work so well and how you can adapt them to work for you. A series of marvelous double-page spreads entitled "Get the Look" feature detailed photos grouped thematically to showcase such concepts as displaying collections, disguising storage, or setting an outdoor table. This is a good primer on cottage-style decorating, and even if you're already familiar with a lot of the basics, you'll still find inspiration in these pages. --Amy Handy
Book Description
Two hundred photographs and inspiring ideas for using color, texture, materials, and furnishings show the way. Go beyond the quintessential chintz and florals: think about maximizing light with everything from a big bay window to sheer curtains. Try brick or stone floorings for that warm, traditional look. Transform a hallway with painted floorboards and a rag rug. That’s the essence of beautiful country style.

Romantic Country Style: Creating the English Country Look in.......2000-03-31
I love this book. I have followed every Victoria magazine and book since day one. I immediately made it my goal to be featured on the pages of Victoria Magazine. My dream came true June 92, and was the cover story. This book if full of wonderful decorating ideas, fabulous photographs and always gentle writing to put you in the mood, to sit quietly, sip a cup-o-tea and imagine yourself on the pages that are appealing to your sensual pleasure. I have always love decorating, and my own book on victorian chic style will be coming out this Fall. Again, thankyou Victoria Magazine for yet another inspirational and exquisite publication. Keep them coming.
Customer Reviews:
Ecellent book.......2005-10-27
I had borrowed this book from the library prior to buying this copy from Amazon, so I already knew the content of the book was of a high standard.
If you are interested in looking at the work of mural artists and seeing some excellent examples of trompe l'oeil this is the book to get.
Features Trompe L'oeil and Mural Painting...Great Resource!.......2004-07-29
The mural examples contained in this book are, for the most part, ones not contained in other books on the subject. In other words it has fresh material. There is much diversity in subject matter, ranging from classical pieces to modern abstract paintings. I believe what the other reviewer was referring to when they stated it has "sculptures" is the trompe l'oeil architectural elements that are featured throughout the book. I disagree that is is not for those of us interested in mural painting. This is not a how-to book, but a pictoral journey in mural painting. It is a nice addition to any art related personal or professional library.
Great For Decorating, But Not For Painting.......1999-04-11
There was not much to do with the painting of murals included in this book at all. The title is rather misleading. If, however, you are interested in beautiful illusions in sculpture and decorating, this would be the perfect place.
Book Description
If the traditional thatched roofs and mullioned windows of the picturesque English country cottage have piqued your curiosity about their interiors, open the doors, come inside, and look! Their clever and imaginative owners have found so many delightful ways to retain that old-fashioned charm while not at all sacrificing modern comfort. In Cornwall, little staircase windows in thick cob walls display a selection of 19th-century bottles. A Devon home still has a log-burning stove. The washhouse of an Oakhurst cottage allows a glimpse of another century. The fruits of a countrywide search, from Berwick-upon-Tweed to the Lizard peninsula, all these cottages show both those quirky imperfections and beguiling architectural details that reveal poignant reminders of past generations.
Customer Reviews:
Highly recommended........2003-12-23
This is one of my favorite (non-fiction) books of all time. It is not your garden variety decorating book, and doesn't pretend to be. In subject matter it is a bit more about architecture rather than interior decoration, with an emphasis on traditional. I think the text is excellent: witty, charming, down-to-earth, very informative and not long-winded or padded out. The photography is superb, giving excellent and well-lit views. Most of these rooms are decorated with some antiques, and the captions give you some information on these. If you love traditional cottage architecture, and English country decorating on the somewhat modest side -- no fancy houses here, these are cottages -- you might love this book as much as I. Highly recommended.
Misleading title, lackluster book.!.......2003-01-23
I was expecting a book with pictures of english decorating style. This is certainly NOT THAT. It is on the small side, so if you're looking for nice photos, forget it. It just wasn't what the title led one to expect it would be. Dissappointing!
The Real English Cottage.......2002-11-20
I bought this book last year and have looked through it many times. It is a true pictorial look at the REAL English cottages.
