Book Description
Crocheting is the new knitting and no doubt, hot designer Katherine Lee is spurring the trend. The percentage of women under the age of 45 who know how to knit and crochet has doubled in the past six years. Retailers and the media are jumping on the bandwagon, too, by energizing many women who have not knitted or crocheted for years. It's a hip, calming pastime to our hectic busy lifestyles.
Unfortunately, the crochet patterns on the market are not necessarily in tune with today's young crocheter. That's why this book is a must-have for any enthusiast. SweaterBabe.com's Fabulous & Flirty Crochet provide this expanding market of crocheters with twenty fresh and fashionable designs from Lee, a top pattern designer and instructor.
These are not your boring old granny sweaters. These patterns are for beautiful, lacy, feminine, sweaters, camisoles, hats, belts, tanks, handbags, and scarves. Fun-to-make, and stylish to wear, these contemporary projects will appeal to crafters of every skill level.
Customer Reviews:
I love this book.......2007-06-10
This is my favourite crochet book, for quite a few reasons. I actually think of myself as a knitter first, although I learned the basics of crochet way back when I was a little girl at the same time as I learned to knit. A few months ago I decided to order a bunch of books to get into it properly, as I have found over time that some effects are easier to obtain in crochet - like some are in knitting. I wouldn't bother doing rib in crochet, and I find a lot of lace work is easier to crochet. Also, I tend to buy yarn first and think about what I want to make later, unless I totally fall for a design and go the other way. In which case some yarns seem to work better with a hook than with two needles.
Anyway. Of all the books I bought, this is the one that has remained in use. This designer has inspired me and give me the confidence to move beyond mesh scarves and crochet lace edgings. I love that she gives both symbols and fully written out pattterns. I have made intermediate stuff of hers - wow, still can't believe it! And pretty soon I will move on to advanced. Her designs are cute, stylish and cool. They're not shapeless, boring, or so out there that they're unwearable. (translation to knitting patterns/shapes - they fall inbetween the two extremes of the oldstyle long tightly ribbed at the bottom sweaters that hardly suit any female, and the extremely avantgarde stuff rowan sometimes do that seems to be all about look how clever I am).
She also includes a pretty pattern for a shawl that is worked from the point up - which is great, as a) I hate hate hate working long base chains, and b) you can use it for stash busting as you just work till you finish your yarn. The only other shawl pattern I have which works this way is stitchdiva's celebrity pattern, which I also highly recommend.
Last but not least, she includes a chart of symbols, yarn averages, gives materials required by yarn gauge and yardage, instead of just stating "10 balls of XYZ".... something I hate. Because I rarely just buy the yarn, I like to sub. So then you have to find out what yardage the yarn is, what type, blablabla.... Oh, and it's spiral bound. Nice.
I look forward to more publications from her.
user friendly.......2007-06-03
I consider myself an intermediate crocheter and this book has projects I can make. The instructions are very comprehensive and include charts as well as written instructions. level of difficulty is indicated also. The spiral binding is very useful too. I like especially the Moroccan slippers, cloche hat, stole, cardigan and shawl. I ordered this book sight unseen and was very pleasantly surprised with it.
Flattering fit is what this book is all about.......2007-01-24
I am top heavy and cannot wear bulky knits, whether crocheted or knitted in technique.
I love these. They fit well and look good on. It's obvious the designer knows what she's doing in the fit and patterning area. I look like a woman and can show my curves---and I do not look like a yeti!
As with any book of patterns, there were some I definitely would not make for myself, but that might work for someone else I know.
I thought the color combos chosen were good and there were a wide variety of yarns used.
Since these are not too intricate, most will be faster to make than if I made something comparable by knitting it.
I loved the spiral binding; I can carry this with me and use closed or spread flat while working.
The price is excellent for the quality and number/variety of patterns.
excellent ideas in here.......2007-01-22
This is the first crocheting book I have purchased. I learned how to crochet
when I was young and hadn't done it in decades. I wanted a pattern book of
varied items that was not granny-square-based and had things that you would
actually want to wear once you were done with them.
I read a lot of reviews of many other crocheting books and every technical
complaint that I have seen others remark on as a defect in other books has
been addressed in this book. Yarns are described so that easy
substitutions are possible. A chart with symbols is provided for each
stitch pattern, as well as clear written instructions, and the garments
are photographed so that you know what your finished project will look
like. A schematic of each finished piece is given, with dimensions. All
the patterns seem to be very well-tested and the instructions are very
detailed and clear. I was able to make the macrame belt, which is rated
as "advanced", as my first project from this book, with no problem at all.
A plus I hadn't anticipated was that I was able to ask the author a
question about my current project via her website about something I was
uncertain about. She replied kindly and promptly with a clear explanation.
I was very pleased with this book. There are a few things that I,
personally, would not have opportunity to wear (shawls), or that I have
enough of (scarves), and wouldn't want to make, but the stitch patterns in
each project are interesting and I could see using them in other projects.
I really like this book!
worth it!.......2007-01-16
i am very confused by the negative reviews of this book. the patterns are attractive and very well designed. (i'm 3/4 through the shawl collared wrap cardigan, and it looks fabulous. the complicated shaping is so worth the final product!)
people who think the patterns look cheap, need to use their imagination. some of the styling of the models and pictures looks silly/cheap, but the garments themselves can be fabulous in different yarns or other colors.
i disliked the slim-fitting cardigan (looked totally granny in white) until i saw it in a vivid tangerine orange on a crocheter's blog. it looked fun and funky!
this is a book for crocheters who like versatile well designed patterns and prefer to put their own twist on the project--not duplicate it exactly down to the color and button style.

Sylvia Cosh - Creative Genius - Crochet Sweater Book.......2007-05-15
Beautiful and unique patterns for crocheted sweaters for the entire family. Timeless designs with wonderful use of color and geometry.
Fantastic Designs, True Artistry!.......2007-03-04
It is indeed unfortunate that the low reviewer here catagorized these designs as "screaming 80s". As history will bear out and as we've seen previously, all decades have highly sought after Vintage designs and the 80s are no different. Truly the only thing 'dated' about these wonderful, imaginative designs are the shoulder pads used in a couple of the sweaters(easily removed!). Sylvia Cosh is a risk taker and the sweaters themselves, while definitely crochet, has a knit sensibility about them. No doubt about it, these designs will indeed be '80s classics'.
Too Cool.......2006-05-10
These designs really rawk! Nice photos, lots of interesting designs. Easily altered, she encourages this. She uses lots of mohair. There are a few kid's and men's sweaters included, too. An inspirational book, very nice.
One of her basic designs is being sold on my website, with some pattern and color alterations, it's the "Waterlily Sweater" under Women's Clothing
Not quite classic styles.......2005-10-06
I just bought this book based on the reviews that promise "classic" styles. Not quite. These patterns definately scream "80's". They are oversize and are completed with huge Dynasty style shoulder pads. There are probably only two patterns in the book that, in my opinion, have stood the test of time, one of them being a very feminine looking sweater that is being modeled by a man. For a woman it would be fine. I am a little bummed that I bought this.
Breathless patterns.......2005-05-14
Make your own cape or sweater. Learn how to combine mohair with various other yarns for a stunning look to your finished sweater. I'm pretty sure these designs will still be around 100 years from now.

Customer Reviews:
Great little book!.......2006-02-24
Wow, this book was a pleasant surprise. My daughter recommended it after attending a workshop by the same name. I've read several books on Feng Shui in the past, and they can be rather daunting. This book offers many simplified "short cuts" to success. It's easy to find a cure for most any situation you may want to address in your life. A quick and upbeat little read, enjoy!
lots of suggestions / little depth.......2003-02-05
This little book does provide an overview of feng shui, but it lacks any focus or any detail. After you read it, you'll know a teeny bit about feng shui -- you need lots of wind chimes to keep the chi moving, you need to illuminate dark corners, you need ties bells & prisms on red cords & distribute them around the house, you need to use your stove frequently if you want to be wealthy. Many of the tips seem to be designed to bring unrestricted movement, to free up blockages. That's the good part. They annoying part is there are eight bazillion tips on how to increase prosperity -- painting your office door green (the color of money in some cultures), painting your office door black (the color of money in other countries), painting your office door red (lucky color, attracts fortune), painting your office gray, blue or green, decorating your office with fabric that combines eight colors or patterns in the design (because "eight" is the number of business and finance) putting yellow flowers in your kitchen, cleaning out your stove, refrigerator, under your kitchen sink. You read a chapter & there are tips on using every color of the rainbow, and incorporating numbers for a variety of reasons (two of this, four of that, nine goldfish, three bells, etc.) that you don't come away with any specific tips. If you followed all of the tips, your home would be a multicolored, cluttered mess, with wood & metal & water & wind chimes everywhere you look.
a cute introduction to feng shui.......2002-06-14
I gave this book to a friend of mine, who actually knows a great deal about Feng Shui, and she thought it was adorable.
It doesn't go far into depth (which could be a good or a bad thing, depending on what you are looking for), but it is a fun introduction and the first chapter gives an informative introduction into the whys and hows of Feng Shui.
It's a great little gift! I really enjoyed it.
A fun book.......2002-05-17
Barker may have missed the title of this book when he/she wrote their review.
10-Minute Feng Shui delivers what it promises. It is a quicky, easy, fun introduction to the concept of Feng Shui.
Feng Shui is actually a very complicated art, if you want to skip the measurements, coordinates and finding the ying and yang of your home - this may be for you.
The book offers quick tips like (taken off the back cover)
*Put a vase of yellow flowers in your kitchen to increase your wealth
*Tie nine small bells on a red chord and hang it from your front door to bring happiness into your home
It also has a section which demystifies colors, numbers, shapes, elements and cures - simply and effectively.
No, this book isn't going to make you an interior decorator, but it is a fun gift for yourself or another.
Barker.......2002-05-15
I have read quite a few books on this subject, and this one has to be the bigest dog. Rarely do you read something and feel like the author just put their hand in your wallet and ran away with your money.
The information is so lightly touched upon, you feel dumber for having read it. I know that sounds harsh, but thats how it left me.
Book Description
The ancient Chinese art of feng shui is becoming increasingly popular in the West. That's because many of feng shui's principles are just common sense. One of the easiest, most popular, and most important feng shui Âcures is clutter control and organization. Several best-sellers have already been written on this topic, but none with the easy time promise this book offers. Patterned after 10-Minute Feng Shui, this book will offer hundreds of ways to use the ancient Chinese art of placement to clear the detritus of a busy life and create a calm, harmonious environment.
Customer Reviews:
It is what it is, where it is.......2006-01-24
I confess: I am a person of clutter. I am not a feng shui* devotee, indeed, this book was my introduction. For me, Jeff Campbell's 'Clutter Control : Putting Your Home on a Diet' is still The Best, but this book has its moments, and is a good refresher for New Year's resolutioners. Sorry, Shui sisters. I haven't got time, money or inclination to build a Bagua octagon of Chez Tundra - so my "missing gua" must remain AWOL. The kitchen is where the kitchen is - not to be confused with my Home Office or the bath. Still, the remaining chapters of Skye's Shui offer inspiration and reinforcement for ever-ongoing vigilance against the accumulation of clutter. /TundraVision, Amazon Reviewer
* For those as new to the Chinese art of Feng Shui as I, (I live up here in the Tundra,) the author explains: "literally translated, feng shui means wind and water. Wind and water, as we know, can be harnessed to produce energy. Feng shui also allows us to control and direct natural forces and utilize their energy. The principle force fend shui considers the ch'i (pronounced chee), the life-giving energy of the universe that flows through everything - our homes, the Earth, our bodies." So, the convergence for this reviewer is inspiration to shovel more stuff out the door!
Great Advice!.......2005-07-18
Easy to read and makes a nice gift. The Feng Shui way of getting rid of clutter is different from the usual organization books! If you are overwhelmed with clutter, this book is a great motivator. I am taking a huge load to Goodwill tomorrow! Enjoy!
Clutter Control Made Easy.......2005-01-28
Reading this book was my introduction to the Feng Shui philosophy. Most of the book has short paragraphs that will help you reduce clutter immediately. This is a great book for just reading a paragraph or two at a time. Read this book; you'll benefit from it!

Tips for Getting Organized.......2004-10-02
Being new to Feng Shui, the short tips format make this an easy book for me to dip into. She covers the basics in the front of the book, explaining how clutter affects the energy and vibes in your home. The Bagua chart was easy to apply to my layout and is clearly explained.
Although some of the tips seem like reruns from every "get organized" book you've ever read, most of the tips explain how the action will improve the Feng Shui that affects your relationships, wealth, creativity, etc. Much of Feng Shui seems very practical in that the improved appearance of our homes should make us feel better and focusing on certain aspects will bring rewards in that area. Sure, why not.
I'm going to try the money jar idea in my home office which is supposed to start prosperity flowing my way. Can't hurt.
