This is one of the most beautiful collections of horse art I have ever seen. Barbara does a great job of capturing the feelings of the artist in her journey through life. I was really moved by the authors summary of her own life. Everyone should have a copy of this book.

I received this book when I was 7 (I'm now 23) years old before starting lessons for the first time. It has remained one of my most beloved childhood memories and favorite book. A MUST have for all young riders and those who are young at heart!

My husband and I were referred to this book by our riding instructor. We are both grown adults, but have no real horse experience. Even though this book seems to be geared toward children, it is very helpful for the adults who may not want to admit how little they know!!! This book answere all those questions you think may be too silly to ask your teacher! It's great for all ages!

The name of the book is Happy Horsemanship by Dorothy Henderson Pinch. The book is about how horses behave, how to control a horse, how to trot, stop, canter, gallop, jump, the tools used for taking care of a horse, the materials, you need to ride a horse, the different kinds of reins, what not to do, and how to take care of a horse.

Fantastic book for any age.......2003-05-31

Having instructed students and trained horses for over 35 years, it's still tough to find books good enough to recommend to people trying to learn about them. THIS book does it with flying colors.

Everything is in here: safety, compassion, how-to handle a horse and ride, along with why things are done the way they are. Presented in a fun & light-hearted way from the horse's point of view. Very understandable.

Even though the book was written in '66 it is superior to and far more practical than the tomes being written today that confuse an experienced horseperson, let alone a novice. Whether riding English (as illustrated) or Western this book tells what needs to be known.

I bought it for my 13 yo niece just starting with horses & have recommended it to adults who have spent years with horses.

This little book is simple in its story line, but upbeat and "happy". The illustrations are cartoon type rather than "beautiful" but maybe very small children have no problem with that. Our son-in-law enjoys reading it to our grand daughter, age 6 months, and she seems to love it.

It's very disappointing that many of the nicest scarves are nice because of a yarn, most likely discontinued by now, and not because of the reason you buy this box: the pattern.

More Melissa Patterns!.......2005-08-08

I first off have to say that I'm a touch in awe of Melissa Mathay. She used to own a shop in Manhattan and I went in almost every day to see what she was wearing.
Somehow she was able to knit up a new top or accessory at the touch of her needles. She is an awesome pattern maker; as I think that the beauty of the yarn
comes first with her. That said, you can be sure that any pattern in any book that
Melissa has designed will be simple but with a twist. I am so glad that she has started this 'In a Box' series. Some of the patterns are familiar to me from 20 years ago, so you know that they are also timeless. I hope that she does vests, cardis,etc.
I'm really looking forward to 'Baby Items in a box' because nobody does a baby sweater like her. Her boys were the best dressed babies in Manhattan. If you live
in Minnesota she's got a yarn store there and boy am I jealous.
So please get all of her books, I love them. Melissa - we need you!

What Fun!!.......2005-06-24

This box of scarves has something for everyone -- all knitting levels, dressy and casual and funky, and the yarns are to die for! If you're looking for a gift for the knitter in your life, this would be perfect. I love small knitting projects that I can take on the road with me, or work on while I'm waiting for whatever. One of the beauties of this box of scarf patterns is I can just grab the pattern card I'm working on and stash it in the bag with the yarn -- I don't need to take the whole book or magazine. My Christmas list of gifts to buy just got much smaller and a lot more fun -- folks are going to be getting beautiful scarves made by moi! Happy knitting!!
