April Cornell, the creative force behind more than 160 successful boutiques and the author of April Cornell Decorating with Color, presents her own unique scrapbooking ideas, using fabric, jewelry, and sewing details-timed to coincide with the launch of her new line of products.
April Cornell's designs for fabrics, clothing, and home décor accessories have earned her a loyal following among the thousands of women who purchase her products. With this engaging entry in the successful "Designer Scrapbook" series, she brings her creative expertise to the world of journals and scrapbooks. April showcases more than 115 original scrapbook page designs that not only use traditional materials, but also include layered fabric, jewelry (such as earrings without a mate), found objects and doodads (including seashells, beads, and buttons), tailoring techniques, and details such as ribbons, trim and lace for extra beauty. Many of the pages are organized by seasons, and she writes about how the characteristics of each time of year have influenced her work and family.
A Selection of the Crafters Choice Book Club.
Customer Reviews:
April Cornell 's scrapbook book.......2007-06-16
I love April Cornell's style. I own her previously issued decorating book and I just love it. However, I was disappointed in this (scrapbook) book by April. I feel it did not give enough scrapbooking ideas. Most of the pages were filled with photos of April's family's scrapbook, sort of jumbled about. The photos are wonderful, but the ideas are limited.
A fantastic addition to your Scrapbook Library.......2006-03-30
I have always loved Anna Griffin's books and beautiful ephemera for scrapbooking. Her patterns are classic and timeless and make every scrapbook and card look elegant. The paper, rubber stamp and brass stencil patterns are very similar to the pattern fabrics of April Cornell.
I have always loved April Cornell's fashions and fabrics, but never thought of using them for scrapbooking and making cards.
Using April Cornell's book, you can make memories with fabric and jewelry. This creates a scrapbook with a whole new tactile experience. The pictures and ideas in her book appear as collages but are truly inspirational for what you can do with your own scraps or squares of fabric.
Consider taking your child's baby blanket or favorite shirt and using it as a frame around a picture. Take a square of the first dress you or your daughter made, matching ribbon and a scrapbook charm and put it next to a story and picture about the dress. There are an infinite number of ways you can use fabric, jewelry, charms and beads to make an elegant and memorable scrapbook (or card!)
In addition to this book I recommend Designer Scrapbooks with Brenda Walton, Designer Scrapbooks with Anna Griffin, and Designer Cards and Tags with Anna Griffin.
NOT your ordinary scrapbook "how-to".......2005-07-27
I like it a LOT. It's artsy, messy, and uses bits and pieces of what you have around the house instead of having to go out and spend a fortune on manufactured "memories".
I'm not one who does things neatly, precisely, or by-the-book. This book fits into a category that inspires me with loads of ideas.
April uses bits of fabric, ribbons, tiny bits of paper, old icky photos (made suddenly wonderful by her lovely collages) and uses collage to it's most impressionistic and lovely effect.
The longer I looked at the "messy" pages the more I fell in love with a creativity that sent me into reverie about what I could do with MY photos and souvernirs.

I normally love April Cornell's style. I own her previously issued decorating book and I just loved it. However, I was disappointed in this (scrapbook) book by April. Book Description
Richter examines a wide range of primary documents to survey the responses of the peoples of the Iroquois Leaguethe Mohawks, Oneidas, Onondagas, Cayugas, Senecas, and Tuscarorasto the challenges of the European colonialization of North America. He demonstrates that by the early eighteenth century a series of creative adaptations in politics and diplomacy allowed the peoples of the Longhouse to preserve their cultural autonomy in a land now dominated by foreign powers.
Customer Reviews:
Very useful work on the Iroquois Confederacy.......2007-02-14
I've found this book to be both insightful and easy to understand. Though this is a well researched and referenced academic text it is accessible to the average reader, assuming an interest in the subject matter.
The Iroquois were a centerpiece of North American colonial life and I would highly suggest this book for those interested in History or Anthropology, as Dr. Richter takes broad approach to his analysis and documents cultural practices and history of interest to many disciplines.
The Masterpiece.......2000-06-28
Daniel Richter, in this astonishing book, does an excellent job explaining social, political and economical aspects of the Iroquois people with strong evidence. This book is a resutl of a big reserach and Richter's dedication to the subject. I would recommend this book not only to students who need to take Native American History, but also to anyone who is interested in learning about the Iroquoi's life and their impacts on the French, the England, and the Dutch in the 17th and 18th centuries. Even though i am not a native speaker, i really enjoyed reading this book because of Richter's plain English.

When Ohkwa'ri overhears a group of older boys planning a raid on a neighboring village, he immediately tells his Mohawk elders. He has done the right thing--but he has also made enemies. Grabber and his friends will do anything they can to hurt him, especially during the village-wide game of Tekwaarathon (lacrosse). Ohkwa'ri believes in the path of peace, but can peaceful ways work against Grabber's wrath? An exciting story that also offers an in-depth look at Native American life centuries ago. -- Kirkus Reviews Joseph Bruchac is an award-winning storyteller, writer, and editor, and the author of The First Strawberries and Thirteen Moons on Turtle's Back. "Children of the Longhouse"- An Excellent Teaching Tool.......2004-09-30
I read "Children of the Longhouse" aloud to my fourth grade classes each year as a wonderful springboard to teach NYS Native American history in alignment with NYS Social Study Standards. The story-line holds the interest of the students and is packed with historical information and Native American customs and culture that the children are interested in and retain. It also peaks the students interest to investigate present Native American issues. Reading this book is a pleasant way to learn about a valuable topic.
An awesome book.......2000-07-11
Children of the Longhouse is a thrilling book about a Native American boy named Ohkwa're and his twin sister Otsi:stia. Ohkwa'ri overhears some boys planning to start a battle with the Anen:taks, a neighboring tribe. He told on them and saved his village from a war. Wanting revenge, the boys bully him and soon put his life in danger. You should read this book because it's exciting and I couldn't put it down when I started reading it. Also, I learned about the daily lives of the Mohawks. It was interesting how they played sports, how they used plants to make medicine and how they celebrated holidays. The end was suspenseful and I would recommend this book for kids to read.
Children of the Longhouse is a great historical fic book........1999-11-13
The Children of the Longhouse is a great historical fiction book by Joseph Bruchac. The Children of the Long house is about twins. The main two characters are the to twins they are boy girl twins. The boy loves love Tekwaarathon also known as lacrose. Even thuogh I;m only ten years old, my mom and I read children of the Longhouse together. my mom and I loved the book so I gave it 5 stars.
Children of the longhouse is a great book.......1999-11-11
The book Children of the longhouse is a great historical fiction book by joseph Bruchac. Even though i'm only eleven years old it is a greatbook for all children, even adults. My mom read the book with me and thought it was a great book too! Well the Children of the Longhouse is about a boy and girl twins, like me. Other Native Americans and the boy love Tekwaarathon (Day-ghaah-la-lot), also known as lacrosse.I gave Children of the longhouse four stars because it was not the best book of all but it was the best book I ever read!
This book is very action packed........1998-12-05
If you like books about Native Americans, I recommend this book. In the Iroquois culture they would play a game called Tekwaarathon, which is lacrosse, for people who are sick to make them feel better. In this book it works!

Childhood memory..........2005-12-20
I remember this book from when I was a little kid. I clearly remember the story - the older bother exploring the many ways he could get his hands on some maple sugar. I also remember the cool, yet simple, pictures that graced the inside pages. My mother must have red the book to me a thousand times and that is why I just had to have a copy of my own. I might even give it to my nephews. Maybe not. ^_^
I don't remember the book having any BAD influence on me. I never tried to kidnap my bother, I never tried to blackmail my parents, I never mishandled museum objects at the museum I work at and I never tried to hunt down deer to trade their skins for a tiny canoe. This is a simple story for kids to enjoy. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
Stereotyped and offensive - avoid it!.......2004-03-28
This book, written in 1962, sadly reflects the worst tendencies of Indian-themed children's books.
Little Runner, whose tribe is never identified, looks Anglo and dresses like Daniel Boone. His life is made to look like a cartoon. Sacred items are treated in a disrespectful, offensive way. Imagine a book showing a young Jewish boy playing with a Torah, or a young Christian tossing about a crucifix, and you might get the idea of how offensive this book is.
Avoid this at all costs, and toss it out of your school library. There are many, many children's books with Native themes that are beautiful and entertaining. (...)
Little Runner of the Longhouse.......2003-03-02
this was my favorite book growing up as a child. i was so happy today when i remembered the name of it. i'm going to order a couple of copies for my children
All the maple sugar I can eat.......2000-08-04
A favorite from my childhood. Glad to see it's still around even if it doesn't sit well with everyone.
Little Runner of the Longhouse.......1997-08-29
As an Iroquois (or as we prefer to call ourselves Haudenosaunee), I am deeply
urked by this book!!! The book's sacriligious use of allowing a young boy to play with a false face mask
rips at the core of my religion. A child would never be allowed to show such disregard for such a sacred
object. This book should NOT be read!!!!!!!! At best it should be used to show the disregard for Native American
religion and culture by the dominate society!!!

Customer Reviews:
Highly Detailed, Interesting Book.......2006-12-09
I first encountered this book, along with others in the "Life in a. . ." series about Native Americans, as I was going through a teacher training program in college. The 5th-grade classroom teacher who I interned with loved these books and used them every year during her Native American Social Studies Unit. And they are great books. With lots of relevant text combined with plenty of descriptive illustrations, this book is one of few that is historically accurate while being interesting. While some critics disliked the pictures, I thought the mix of illustrations and photographs gave the book balance and appeal to a wider range of readers. In addition, the information presented is detailed enough for students to use in reports or class projects. I highly recommend this book for kids 4th through 8th grade.
