How do you review a how-to book, really? I mean, as long as it does what it's supposed to do, and does it clearly, it's good, right? From that standpoint, this one's pretty much got it made. Clear descriptions, heavy on the illustration, step-by-step instructions, that sort of thing. I do wish it had gone into more detail on some of the optional stuff (especially face-framing; if you plan to do a lot of bookshelf-building that requires doors, you'll probably need another book as well), but for basic construction of shelving, this should do you right. Not much more to say. If you need it, you need it, if you don't, you don't. *** ½

Although the book is supposed to be for cabinet and shevling, it is clearly more about cabinets. Not good if you looking for ideas on interior fancy shelves. Very good if you looking to build interior cabinets.

A Great Place to Start.......2004-04-07
Pre-Req to this book is knowing how to use Power Tools and manual wood tools.A great place to start. Not for the highly experienced, but great for those who are just starting out in woodworking or those who like 1980 / 1990 Retro. Don't expect to be an expert after reading this book;but do expect to create some nice pieces and learning the basics. You must learn to walk before you run. It can be compared to a 4th Level School book of a 8 Level school.
Dated plans & limited ideas.......2000-05-18
I bought this book hoping for plans and ideas for built-in shelves and storage units. The book does a fairly good job explaining the construction basics involved, but it is woefully bereft of ideas. The book is published in the early 1980's and the projects which are illustrated have not, for the most part, stood the test of time. If you are looking for building ideas and examples you can show a builder, this book is not a good starting point.

I used this book to build a complete kitchen of cabinets, and it was my "bible" during that time. I am sure there are other books out there with more bells and whistles, but if you want nice, basic cabinets, this is a great choice.

The book is okay. It has some helpful suggestions but I thought it would have a little more in it.
Full of Projects!.......2000-03-14
This books is full of projects! The first reviewer must be talking about another book. (Look closely: The link takes you to an old edition of this book.) Shelves for books, collectibles, and home offices are all here. There are literally dozens of ideas for adding storage space -- including ideas for customizing stock cabinets and upgrading closet shelving. You won't just use this book once, you'll use it again and again!
Should be called "Overview of cabinet construction".......1999-10-08
"Step by step" is really a misnomer. Only 14 pages of this very slim book are devoted to projects, and none of the projects contain materials lists, detailed plans or construction diagrams. And unfortunately, all the projects look very dated.
You also will not find any photos or color in this book. Nor more than a few paragraphs about shelving - the main reason I bought the book.
What it does give is a very basic overview of cabinet making, plus an overview of using powertools like orbitals saws and routers.
If you are looking for plans, information on shelving, inspiration or step-by-step instructions, then look elsewhere. But if you are looking for an overview of cabinet making, then this is the book for you.

Advanced Woodworkers only.......2001-11-08
If you are looking for a book on fine furniture type cabinetry which will never be within the ability of the average homeowner, then get this book--it would look great resting on a coffee table. However, if you are looking for practical nuts-and-bolts information about construction of cabinets then buy Danny Proulx's book: "Build Your Own Kitchen Cabinets".

I think the book is great for beginers as well as advanced woodworkers. I am a woods/cabinetry teacher. I have 25 of these books that I use as text books in my advanced woods classes. This is the second school I have used this book in. I have made a work book that covers the first half of the book asking the students to find many of the tips and techniques given in the book. The kids like the book more than an ordinary textbook because it gives information to them that they can use right now. Many of my students make these projects or we modify them to meet the needs of the students. I think it is a great book.

This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a borderless world, cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e.g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market. In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another. In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for the world\'s major cities for "bathroom cabinets and shelves" for the year 2007. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by a city when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales. For many items, latent demand is clearly observable in sales, as in the case for food or housing items. Consider, however, the category "satellite launch vehicles". Clearly, there are no launch pads in most cities of the world. However, the core benefit of the vehicles (e.g. telecommunications, etc.) is "consumed" by residents or industries within the world\'s cities. Without certain cities, in other words, the market for satellite launch vehicles would be lower for the world in general. One needs to allocate, therefore, a portion of the worldwide economic demand for launch vehicles to both regions and cities. This report takes the broader definition and considers, therefore, a city as a part of the global market.

An essential reference.......2007-09-02
An essential reference of the work of one of the most important iconoclasts of the design world. Frank was a visionary who saw elegance in the simplified form. His work is still influencing designers today and continues to look fresh and modern. His clients, often famous (note Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli), luxuriated in his use of rare and unusual materials like mica, gypsum, shagreen, vellum, straw marquetry, lacquer, rare woods, Hermès leather and sheepskin.
The limited (French) text (which unfortunately was sloppily translated into English) outlines the fateful story of Frank's life, being a Jew in France during the war, up until his tragic suicide in New York - but could have been more thorough. Though this is only a minor fault of a valuable visual resource.
