Nice one.......2007-05-13
It wasn't what i was expecting, but it is a very interesting book.
I never thought of that!.......2004-12-22
I happened to pick this book up at a bookstore in Japan and suddenly I realized that you can do more with an obi than wear it with a kimono. As a result, everyone in my family is getting souvenir obis, and I'm excited to start using the ideas presented in the book.
Some of the ideas made me nervous--using an obi as a table runner would eventually lead to stains--but this book opened up a whole new world to me that I hadn't even considered. For that, I'm thankful.
learn to use obi in your home.......2000-04-09
it's a great book to lead you to use obi as part of the decoration in your home. it gives you alot of ideas how to put and what you can do with obi before you display them in your home. also, it tells the different kinds of obi in design and material it is made from. actually, it gives you extra knowledge of other japanese traditional accessories; as the pictures in this book shows you how the obi goes together very well with basic things every houses have. great book.

Customer Reviews:
Good book for information on natural materials.......2006-02-24
This book is helpful if you want to know how to use and care for natural materials in and oustside the home. There were some good photos featuring modern interiors but not very many photos relating to modern retro, as I had hoped for. I would recomend this book to anyone wanting ideas on using different types of natural materials for their home.
Highly recommended reading for the novice homeowner.......2001-02-02
Naturally Modern: Creating Interiors With Wood, Leather, Stone, And Natural Fabrics is a practical how-to guide for creating handsome, functional home interiors using natural materials including wood, leather, stone, as well as textiles such as cotton, linen, and wool. Highly recommended reading for the novice homeowner as well as the experienced interior designer, Naturally Modern is a welcome and invaluable contribution to any personal, professional, and community library interior design reference book collection.
Brings out the nature lover in all of us.......2000-12-16
This books explores ways in which we can substitute man-made materials for those that are found in nature, offering the reasons why nature is almost alwasy best. The book is aimed towards a contemporary design oriented audience, but the ideas can be adjusted to fit most decors. Beautifully photographed and well written, this book is a great addition to any design library.
The review of Naturally modern.......2000-11-17
A fantastic book. Provides lots of information of the various materials and textures and information on how the materials are processed and how to maintain them. Features unique products and accessories like calfskin chessboard and leather tiles.

Book Description
A handy fan of paint chips is an indispensable tool when choosing colors for decorating projects. And, when it comes to selecting fabrics for upholstery, drapes, pillows-anything to do with textiles-fabric swatches are the necessary equivalent. They are the spark behind dazzling creative ideas, and they make deciding between, say, a sumptuous jacquard tapestry and a 1920s art deco pattern both manageable and fun.
Swatches, by noted fabric experts Dorsey Sitley Adler and Robert D. Adler, provides the ultimate guidebook on color and pattern concepts for decoration, fashion, and craft. Featuring more than 400 fabric patterns, the book includes vintage and contemporary selections from the largest textile library in the United States. The swatches are organized by pattern type, everything from stripes and polka dots to paisleys and conversational prints. A series of special color and style groupings-Seaside Splendor and Pastel Palette, for example-add an extra touch of inspiration. In addition, the book features informative text describing the origins of and typical uses for each pattern type. With a user-friendly, "small-and-chunky" format, Swatches will serve decorators, designers, and anyone interested in pattern as an invaluable resource. AUTHOR BIO: Dorsey Sitley Adler and Robert D. Adler are the founders of the Textile Design Group, the largest privately owned textile library in the United States. With a collection of more than four million pattern swatches that ranges from 19th-century historical patterns to contemporary fabrics, the Textile Design Group serves customers including fashion houses and color forecasters. This is the Adlers' first book.

The Encyclopedia of Window Fashions
ASIN: 1588166562 |
Book Description
Charming florals or cool abstract patterns? White-on-white or a splash of brilliant color? Just like clothes make the man, fabric makes the furniture. House Beautiful understands that, and so the editors are letting sofas, chairs, settees, ottomans, lampshades, and more put on a “fashion show.” As in the magazine feature, witness how furniture can be completely transformed using several different fabrics. The magazine’s experts explain exactly how the choice of color and pattern affects the furniture’s appearance. For example, stripes on a sofa highlight the couch’s shape and give it a contemporary flair, while a floral pattern de-emphasizes the form and adds traditional country charm. A range of styles are included. Details on fabric content, technical terms, decorating pitfalls, and upholstering tips make this the ideal reference.
Customer Reviews:

From how to apply the right fabric to the right furniture, to selecting the color and tone that suits one's personality and living space best, to blending fabric into an overall room motif, The Fabric Style Book offers a wealth of inspirational examples in addition to useful and practical guidelines.

Customer Reviews:
Buyer Beware.......2001-08-14
While the contents of this book are beautifully displayed and the instructions are relatively easy to follow, the book is a consolidation of the four individual Home Furnishing Workbooks -- pillows, bed linens, window treatments and lampshades. Unfortunately, that is not indicated in the information presented here. Therefore, if you own them, purchasing this book would be a waste of money.
A broad overview of many decorating ideas.......2001-08-11
This book has sections on bedding, lampshades, curtains, and pillows. Each section has several ideas of great-looking projects that you can make at home. It never really occured to me that I could make my own lampshades in fabrics to match my room! The projects are all ingredibly simple, also... but the finished projects look stunning!

Customer Reviews:
Look through my window.......2004-07-28
If you've got a nice, sunshiny yard, why not gussy it up a little with one of the contemporary curtain ensembles that decorators now call, window treatments? I found Creative Publishing's guide to be insightful and a true resource, it's good even with the basement windows that my X put inwhile trying to give a basement woodshop some natural light, but on the other hand nosy neighbors mean that you have to have some cloth over the glass.
Whether your view overlooks a garden in the country, or St. Patrick;s Cathedral in the city, you'll want a book like this here "More Creative Window Treatments" so you can look at the color photos and decide for yourself, and for your family, which setting would look nicest. And then the book gives you complete instructions for how to sew it together yourself. Or perhaps you can enlist the assistance of the birds and mice Disney's Cinderella used to help her whip together her gown!
Only if you can sew..........2002-07-01
While this book does have a few pictures, they seem quite old. The one or two items I liked didn't have any instructions for. If you are not a sewer, than this book is not for you. I found the book very confusing - definitely written for the person with sewing background. Sorry.
Great ideas, directs you to a professional window treatment.......2001-02-05
This was one of three books I purchased on window treatments; I turn to this one for advice and direction. Step by step directions with pictures on such topics as installing hardware, including hanging a mounting board, to the basics of sewing. Great ideas for rod pocket curtains and custom shades. I used it to create two different window treatments, scarf swag and shoji-style screen. Each project tells you how to measure and materials required. Due to the great instructions, both treatments turned out very professional!!

Book Description
Walls provide endless opportunities for us to express our taste and personality, so it’s surprising how often we resort to painting them in solid colors or covering them with uninspired wallpaper. Now, acclaimed interior designer Linda Barker proves that walls can be much more than backdrops for artwork, neutral surfaces to blend with furniture, or mere room dividers. Whether your home is large or small, classic or contemporary, Barker provides the inspiration to transform your walls into beautiful, decorative pieces, with 100 wall treatments for a variety of looks and budgets, including:
• Novel approaches to traditional paint techniques, including bar-code stripes, stencils, and tattoos
• Wallpaper masks that create bold overlapping patterns for a dramatic effect
• Innovative treatments such as leather or suede paneling, seashell displays, and fabric coverings
• Stunning mosaics created in a few short hours with preconstructed stone sheets
• Inspirations for collages using personal items such as clothing and accessories that you can adapt to reflect your own personal flair
Whether you opt to add a modern twist to a classic treatment, or choose a more unconventional approach, Wall to Wall provides myriad possibilities for creating dramatic style. Linda Barker also helps you approach bare walls without inhibition with down-to-earth advice on basics such as lighting, the proper use of color to create moods, and the perfect textures to complement a room’s composition. Gorgeously illustrated with step-by-step photos and filled with Linda Barker’s characteristic charm and style, Wall to Wall is an invaluable resource for beginners and seasoned decorators alike.
Customer Reviews:
Inspiring.......2006-11-10
Some good ideas here. Helped me to see my walls from a different perspective and get moving on using them imaginatively.
Linda's best book--lovely photography!.......2006-06-22
I'm a big Linda Barker fan and this is certainly her most visually appealing book yet. The photography is gorgeous. I'd love to see Linda publish a book in the USA that featured examples of her applications in real British homes (not Changing Rooms homes). Her own London home is gorgeous! That would earn 5+ stars in my book.
Creative Wall Coverings.......2005-11-29
I never thought of using glitter or giving my wall a tattoo. This book opens your mind to new ways to treat walls. Some ideas, like murals, require some artistic ability. Other ideas include applying rhinestone designs or using gilding.
The book doesn't include step-by-step instructions, so you may have to experiment a bit to create the looks showcased in this book.
