Book Description
-Offers quilters a versatile skill useful in other hobbies
-Unique approach answers the question of how to select colors for a quilt
-Lie-flat binding creates the perfect guide for hands-on learning
Colors often make the quilt; but too often quilters aren't sure which colors are best and which combination of fabrics works well together. This book solves the issue of selecting the right colors and fabrics for any quilt, by giving quilters tips for developing an eye for color, and an understanding of how fabrics and colors relate to one another.
In this informative book, quilters will discover:
-Chapters devoted to testing colors using swatches, colored pencils and computerized quilting programs
-Guides for selecting colors and fabrics based on desired effects in a quilt
-Five different color themes -- demonstrated on block designs from 10 popular block families
-800 color images to demonstrate various color schemes of the same quilt

Quilters will find this indispensable........2006-10-15
Over seven hundred color variations for a range of traditional and modern quilting and patchwork designs, from nine-patch to octagons, are packed into Celia Eddy's The Quilter's Color Scheme Bible, a handy reference which provides at-a-glance details for quilters who want to mix and match designs and colors. Arrangements focus on complimentary tonal variations and include choices of these combinations, each shown as a photographed fabric swatch. Comments include notes on mood influences, changes between combinations, how the eye perceives patterns and designs, and more. Quilters will find this indispensable.

It's color schemes. Not color theory........2006-08-26
Every quilter gets stumped, at some point, when considering the fabrics and colors to use in a quilt. None of us want to invest the considerable amount of time, energy, and love that goes into creating a quilt, only to have the end result appear muddy, or garish, or with one color clashing with another.
The Quilter's Color Scheme Bible does indeed show you 700 variations of color on quilt blocks and in (somewhat abbreviated) quilts (that is, you see a 3x3 grid, not an entire quilt). Each page in the easy-to-flip-open book shows a given block (say, a bear's paw), with 7 examples of color schemes that will work. Since the book is separated by theme -- harmonious colors, saturated colors, shades, etc -- the most common blocks are shown with a couple dozen color combinations. So if you're stumped for how to choose colors with "puss in the corner" and not sure whether it'll work better with fall leaf colors or lilac shades, this book should certainly help you make choices. Certainly, it's rather stunning to see how your color choice can change the mood of the quilt or the patterns your eye follows.
However, this book isn't about teaching you to _think_ in color. It's primarily giving you a handy menu shortcut to help you _choose_ color. If you're staring at two indigo fabrics in your stash and wondering what would contrast best with them, this book could be a helpful tool. (I think I could accomplish almost as much by browsing colors in Electic Quilt 5, but the book is a lot cheaper than the software.)
One sign that this is not a book that is serious about explaining how color "works" and how to make your own choices is that its color wheel repeats an old error... one that makes me wince every time I see it. The color wheel is presented with the primary colors as red, yellow, and blue -- when that is NOT SO. The "blue" that you first met as a primary color in kindergarten is actually _cyan_. In most of life, who cares -- but this is a book about color, and it ought to be explicit and correct. Amazon has several books about color theory for quilters, but the one with which I'm most familiar (and I like quite a bit -- I learned a lot) is Color Play: Easy Steps to Imaginative Color in Quilts, by Joen Wolfrom.
As a result, the value of this book varies based on what you're shopping for. If you want a "Cliff's Notes" to color choices, this one will do just fine. It will not serve your needs adequately, however, if what you seek is a book to help you "think better" about color.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful Book for Quilters.......2005-08-04
As a beginning quilter, I found this to be one of the most useful, beatifully designed and inspiring books I've come across. 150 block designs are each given a two page spread showing:
- A full color illustration of the made up block that uses fabric rather than just solid colors.
- A set of four full color fabric blocks joined to show how the pattern works together.
- A black and white illustration breaking down the various shapes constructing each block.
- A paragraph of history and information.
- A rating of how difficult the block is to create.
The book organizes blocks into the following categories: One-Patch, Four-Patch, Five-Patch, Nine-Patch, Stars, Hexagons and Octagons, Square-in-a-square, Curved, Fans, Log Cabin, and Applique. One of the really unique and useful features is a full color index showing thumbnails of all the blocks. The spiral binding allows the pages to lie flat when you're working on a certain block, another great feature.
Basic information on quilting is included (tools, choosing fabric, etc.) but this book is more useful for ideas than technique. My mother, who has been quilting for many years, loved this book as well (and she tends to be as picky as I am about quilt books!)
Back to Tradition.......2003-03-16
Traditional blocks, some with a new slant and each one with a brief history of its origins. This book goes right from the basics - the quilt block in history, tools and equipment, working with colour and pattern, drafting blocks, through to where to go next for those who like to be really creative. All this and 100 blocks too, all in full colour. The handy size and spiral binding make it ideal to keep on your sewing table for constant reference. I only have one problem with this book- I think I'm going to turn into a blockaholic! This is one book I don't want to be without.

Customer Reviews:
Just A Retread.......2006-01-21
I have the first book this author wrote, and was extremely disappointed to find out that at least half the blocks in her new book are repeated from her first book. I feel that the title is misleading. Several of the authors of multiple volumes on the same subject are in my library. Examples would be Bethany Reynolds, Marsha McCloskey, Sharyn Craig, and Carol Doak. In each and every case, the blocks or techniques do not repeat the items that appeared in their earlier books. Therefore, it's logical to expect that a book entitled "More Biblical Blocks" would have additional blocks to the ones you already have.
Have you ever bought a CD of an artist you liked to find out that half or more of the songs were repeats from one you already owned? Well, this is the equivalent. Since the book isn't cheap, it's doubly disappointing.
Whereas I do agree that the directions are guite good, they are no better than those contained in many other books on the market by other authors, so there is nothing remarkable in that arena. If you have this author's "Biblical Blocks" book, I'd recommend skipping this one. If you're considering buying one of her books, buy only this one and skip the first, so it can have value to some. I, however, feel ripped off.
More biblical Quilt Blocks.......2005-11-18
I have been quilting for almost 20 years and this is one of the best books I've ever used. The directions are concise and understandable, the measurements are accurate and precise allowing an ease of construction and finished block that fits into the overall quilt. I am in the process of making every . block detailed in the book. I would certainly recommend this book .
Includes a lot of material from first book.......2005-04-21
This book hasmany beautiful quilt squares. However, be aware that if you have the authors first book on quilt squares you may want to think about buying this one. About half of the squares are repeats from the first book.

The Quilting Bible.......2005-10-04
I love it. It is easy to follow and answers the most basic questions in easy to understand language. The pictures are clear and easy to follow. Well worth it.
A Complete Reference Book.......2001-10-18
If you want detail for every step of the quilting process, this is the book for you. It tells you what size needle to use for piecing vs. quilting; type of thread; types of batting; fabric quality; stitch length; how to determine the grain of the fabric; how to press seams; how to assemble a quilt; quick tips for cutting and sewing; how to make borders; the best way to fold and store a quilt; how to create articles other than a bed quilt (purse, tote bag, place mats, pillow covers, table runner, clothing); what equipment you need; how to organize your work space; how to move a full-size quilt through your machine. I took my highlighter and went crazy. It could be a bit daunting for a beginner so I would pair this book with Marsha McCloskey's "Quick Classic Quilts" (for traditional quilts) or with Margaret Rolfe's "A Quilter's Ark" (for contemporary foundation quilts with animal designs). They have much abbreviated instructions that would be easier to follow for a first-time quilter. Then I would use "The Quilting Bible" as a reference to make sure I understood the techniques to get truly professional results.
Another excellent sewing reference from Singer!.......2001-03-26
I think this book is great! I borrowed a friend's, and I just can't give it back! I have done some quilting before, but have learned so much more from this book. Great photographs - and very helpful information. I highly recommend this book for any quilter!
Not for beginners!.......1999-12-30
I am a complete newbie to quilting...in fact, I haven't even made one yet. I read through this entire book and felt so overwhelmed and lost at the same time. I feel it is a bit over a newbie's head but probably excellent for a person who has quilted before. It has beautiful photos of various quilting patterns and is written in a very concise manner. I am only disappointed in the fact that I would consider a "bible" to be basic enough for anyone. I am going to purchase another book instead...called "Quilts, quilts, quilts The complete Guide to Quiltmaking" by Diana McClun. Everyone I know who quilts has recommended it to me.
Book Description

Spiritual Applique.......2007-06-27
beautiful designs for hand applique, with a spiritual theme and good instructions- If you are looking for inspiration for a meaningful project for yourself or a very special person in your life, this is the perfect book for you!
Quilting Flowers of the Bible.......2007-06-03
Patterns are great and quite different. Explanations are interesting. The projects are done as individual blocks, which is nice. If you want to combine them into a larger project, you have that option as well. I recommend this book.

Creative American Quilting Inspired by the Bible.......2003-07-17
Although the quilting techniques in this book are somewhat outdated by today's standards, the photography and designs are outstanding. I had the opportunity to hear one of the authors at a lecture, and she brought the featured quilts from the book. They are all stunning, and it will be hard to decide which one you want to make, whether for bed, wall, or church hanging.Unfortunately, the book is out of print at this time.

Customer Reviews:
Super faith inspired design........2006-01-18
After quilting for several years, this was my first attempt at hand applique. Rosemary's instructions were clear and concise. This faith based quilt pattern was amazing, with blocks that went from simple to VERY challenging. Your choice of 16 out of 20 blocks to make a queen sized quilt. If you are looking for a book of patterns to use to express your faith in God and the Bible, then look no more. You could easily expand on her ideas of a queen sized quilt, and use your favorites to make a wall quilt, or just utilize the lovely center medallion. My Biblical Blocks quilt has been in 10 quilt shows, and 1 special exhibit so far. It has been the quilt I am most proud of. YOU GOTTA GET THIS BOOK!
Biblical Blocks.......2002-03-09
The instructions for block construction in this book are very good. This could be a very complicated quilt to make, and Rosemary has made it easy. Our new quilt group at church did this as a first project. Except for two of us, all were first time quilters. They were all able to cut and assemble blocks at home with ease. We chose other fabrics than what Rosemary suggests and the quilts turned out beautiful!
BIBLICAL BLOCKS.......2001-06-14
Although the quilt blocks were pretty, I found the choice of fabrics required rather restrictive. Also the alternate squares were not what I personally like.
