Plenty of Praise for this book!.......2002-05-15

Not only is this book well written and fun to read, the author's tactics make sense. Cats are such independent creatures you wouldn't imagine that they could be trained to do things like walk on a leash but the author makes it seem quite plausible. I bought the book years ago and I'm always going back to refer to it. It is by far the most useful cat book I've ever bought and I highly recommend it to anyone with a new kitten or a young cat with bad habits.

Having a cat myself, this book was a definite help. Now I know how to solve his behavior problems and eating disorders. SECRET RECIPE
Scott O'Malley isn't thrilled about posing in only a `Kiss the Cook' apron. Since his girlfriend of two years just dumped him, Scott chooses to view being Mr. July as his chance to be seen by thousands of single females - maybe this isn't a bad thing after all.

Lexi Cooper has a huge problem. Even though she's written a cookbook and hosts a cooking show she doesn't know how to cook and has agreed to take care of the catering for the cocktail party "bachelor" mixer. She can't find a caterer and it looks like her only option is to learn to cook - fast! How does one cook for five hundred people?

Lexi is in the middle of a culinary nightmare. The temperamental chef who is supposed to teach her to cook has more in common with Hitler than Martha Stewart and has reduced Lexi to tears more than once. In her panic to achieve the perfect souffle and please the dictator chef, Lexi pays a visit to the nearest all-night convenience store to buy eggs. Only there's a hunky fireman who nabs the very eggs she's after.

I couldn't help but laugh while reading SECRET RECIPE. Lexi's far too serious and Scott is more laid back. Readers will feel Lexi's panic over having to learn to cook and the astronomical amount of food she'd have to cook, but it's tempered with humor and Scott's help and understanding.

MR. DECEMBER
When Mr. December (Troy O'Donnell) becomes too ill to sit in as Santa at Bryant's department store Jason Bryant does the only thing he can think to do - he dons the Santa suit and makes his lap available to the kids. Besides, it gives him the opportunity to learn about his store from a different perspective through the unsolicited comments of customers.

Tessa O'Donnel, Troy's sister, has been the photographer for the calendar and all the promotions for the charity. To tease her brother she sits on Santa's lap, only she doesn't know that Troy is sick and there's a fill-in for the day.

Tessa is embarrassed by the fact that she seated herself in a stranger's lap but quickly recovers and introduces herself as Troy's sister and the photographer. She then proceeds to state a few truths about the store and its owner that she probably wouldn't have said if she'd been aware that he is the owner. Rather than confess his true identity, Jason simply tells Tessa that his name is JB. How can he possibly hope to have a real relationship with her when he's already lied?

I have to admit that I felt bad for Jason. While playing Santa he hears all sorts of derogatory comments about the store which really crushes his holiday spirit. Tessa lightens the mood for him with her honest mistake when she sits in his lap. I couldn't wait to find out what would happen when Tessa learns that he's really not a lowly employee that he's pretending to be.

CAN'T BUY ME LOVE
Zoey Massey is the proud owner of Zoey's Events, a catering business that she's operated for the past two years. In an attempt to turn a profit, Zoey's laid-off all of her full-time employees and is doing all the work herself. She's pushing herself toward a nervous breakdown.

Gordy Mullen (Mr. February) has just learned that his ex-wife, who left him because of his career, is marrying a rookie fireman. It's enough to drive him to drink, but Gordy realizes that he's been drinking too much alcohol in his off duty time. Fortunately, he's found a new distraction - Zoey.

Every day on his way to and from work, Gordy looks into the windows of Zoey's Events hoping for a glimpse of the woman he sometimes sees inside. Imagine his surprise when his glimpse inside reveals a room full of smoke and he finds Zoey knocked out from hitting her head on the pole in the closet/office. Gordy volunteers to stay with her all night, waking her ever two hours in case she has a concussion. Zoey's almost positive that he is only an hallucination. A man this good couldn't possibly exist, could he?

Zoey and Gordy will pull at readers' heartstrings throughout this story. Zoey's driving herself way too hard and has started to experience panic attacks. Gordy and Zoey's friend, Ralph, care too much to allow her to continue running herself ragged.

TRILOGY NO. 106: NICE & NAUGHTY is the perfect treat to add a little "Merry" to the Christmas season. I loved getting the opportunity to revisit the men of the firehouse featured in OPPOSITES ATTRACT and reading about their lives outside of the job. Imagining them all in the buff posing for a charity calendar is an added bonus.

Beautiful job Cat Johnson! The characters are charming and exactly the sort of people I'd want to know in real life. All of the plots are endearing with humorous situations that will have readers smiling and cheering for the couples as well as all the secondary characters. Their lives are a little crazy with all the charity goings on, but it'll bring a little peace, enjoyment and calm to the reader's mind while reading.

Reference Book for Miniaturists.......2005-09-24

If you are looking for that reference book for everything-you-need-to-know about miniatures and how to create them, then this is the perfect edition for you. Everything in this publication is imaginative and very useful for those who wish to make their own miniatures from scratch. The ideas for room settings are unique and there's something to please all ages and generations. I found it an extremely well set out volume and have some new ideas for future projects. Very recommended.

Wow... This book is as good as travelling to Europe and visiting stately homes. The attention to detail is stunning and I loved the ornate rooms 17th & 18th centaury rooms. Any miniature maker who is looking for inspiration and has an interest in history should buy this book.

As with her previous book it has a European slant and I would love for her to visit the US and do a book on period American houses.

My advice is buy this book and never listen to nay sayers! Keep up the good work

Really interesting period dollhouse rooms.......2003-03-06

This book features dollhouse rooms specializing in certain historic areas including Renaissance (the Tudor dining room), the Colonial dining room, and the 1950's style diner. My favor is the curiosity shop. It is so full of detailed items that you just can't believe it's a dollhouse.

The photos cover two whole pages together and really provide an up close look at the way the rooms were made, etc. In addition to the beautiful photos, the author also includes the basics of dollhouse accessories (how to make miniature food, furniture, etc). She includes selected projects from each period room and shows you how to reproduce it using simple materials such as glue and paint. Her instructions are clear, simple, and easy. Some people might not like the fact that not all of the items are included but that's ok. I think from the selected instructions and the inspiration you're bound to get from this book, you'll be able to figure out how to make them yourself.

There are better books around..........2006-07-16

This isn't a bad book, per se. It's great for someone just getting started with doll house design, who knows absolutely nothing and wants to gain some cursory knowledge of different period styles. For someone like me who has a significant collection of books on the hobby, there was nothing in this book that wasn't covered elsewhere (and with more detail). There are some do-it-yourself projects in here, but nothing exceptional. Many of the examples are of store-bought items.

If you're looking for a solid reference book on doll house crafting with specific period styles, I highly recommend Dollhouse Decor by Nick & Esther Forder and Making Miniatures in 1/2 Scale by Venus & Martin Dodge. For more modern furniture and accessory crafting, check out Andrea Barham's Doll's House Accessories, Fixtures & Fittings, or Freida Gray's Doll's House Furniture.

I have this book out of the local library and highly recommend it. I am not a dolls' house/miniaturist, but I have larger scale fashion dolls and the like, and was looking for ideas of what to make for them.

I like that the layout of this book is so clear and open. There is a lot of white space, which makes the text easier to read. If one had one's own copy, it also means that there is room for notes such as where one might purchase some of the materials, or costs, or the like. I especially liked the sections about making kitchens, stairways, and roofing. Very highly recommended especially to the beginner who may be intimidated by the incredible detail and diversity of this hobby.

This book is a great resource book. It is loaded with tips that can save you time and costly mistakes. The information contained in this book is adaptable to kit houses and from scratch. Well written and set up. I would highly reccommend.

The book has alot of period houses and interiors to look at. The picture detailing is great but the book lacks alot of instruction. What instruction it has is informative but is inconsistant. I only recommend this if you are very artistic and creative already and can figure out how to create these lovely houses.

I really enjoyed reading Dolls' Houses. This book is well organized and easy to read with a large number of beautiful color photos. The authors are obviously experts on the styles of doll houses through the past centurys. The presentation of doll houses starts with the 1600's all the way up to the present time. I highly recommend this fascinating book!

great for mature collectors.........2001-12-28

I have collected Barbies for many years and received this book as a gift. I thought it was wonderfully interesting to see many different artists' interpretation of Barbie and her influence on society. I haven't looked at the book for a few years, and I can still picture some of the images - Barbie swimming in French Fries (a play on American diet vs. Barbie's slim figure?) and many dolls watching a huge Barbie face on a movie screen (Is Barbie taking over the world? Should we be on the lookout for Big Barbie?). Overall, I agree that this is a fun coffee table book that would stimulate a lot of interesting conversation.
