great info.......2007-05-17
Very easy to understand and follow. I am interested in becoming certified and this was a big help in showing me what will be expected and give me a jump start on learning anatomy.
Easy and practical guide to massage.......2007-05-02
This is a great book that has become invaluable to me. It gives a good round view of massage, from anatomy to practical exercises and stretches you can do with your horse.
I think this book covers everything a horse owner needs to know about massage.
Equine Massaeg: A Practical Guide.......2007-04-10
This book is very good. My horse has back problems and I found the book helpful as to how to massage him so he feels better. The book has alot of great information and I would recommend it highly.
it was GREAT!.......2005-08-18
had this book been smaller, it would have been perfect! or had more photos.... i used it as a reference while i was working on my horse and it was kind of hard to manage both the massage and the reading at the same time;)
best book I have found in a decade.......2005-06-13
Having been an equine bodywork practioner in So. Cal for over a decade, I have looked at many massage books. This book is by far the most comprehensive as far as anatomy and function of the horse. One word of caution, be careful when performing the stretches he demonstrates in the book, not always the best human biomechanics are used!
Book Description
A unique blend of basic biomechanics and practical physical therapeutic techniques that relieve pain and improve performance in the horse.
Customer Reviews:
too acedemic.......2007-07-11
I was disappointed with this book because it is too acedemic. It covers a lot of theory but is not very practical with only a few diagrams. While a professional massage or physical therapist would enjoy reading it, a horse owner wanting easy to read instructions with diagrams, would be disappointed. I would borrow it from a library, but it is not worth buying.
A little more technical than I had planned for.......2006-08-07
This book is extremely detailed in anatomy. Although I like it, it's a little more detailed and technical than I had in mind for massage and stretching. It's almost like a mini text book. I found it a little on the heavy side for reading. I think this book is only for the most serious of students. It is chock full of technical descriptions, diagrams and some good black and white photos. I found myself skipping around trying to find something I might want to try on my horse but this book really isn't good for that. It really is more of a manual for the student of equine massage and physical therapy.
Slow going at first..........2006-01-27
Technical jargon galore in the first few chapters but after that the rest is easier for us non-vets to understand.
Simple and Easy to Understand.......2000-04-16
This book on equine massage therapy was very clear and easy to understand. It pinpointed specific places to do specific exercises, and gave clear pictures of the anatomy you were dealing with. How to do the exercises, and how to improve your work with the horse in general, was very well explained, and made sense for someone who is not an expert.
Book Description
The Basic Principles of Equine Massage/Muscle Therapy is more than just a book about Massage. This book covers massage applications, anatomy, stretching, conditions, physiology, adjunctive therapies and saddle fitting. The easy to use format is extremely helpful. There are margins on each page for note taking, at a glance tables in the applications and anatomy sections and clearly understood photos. This book has been used a a guide for the professional as well as a starting point for the layperson or aspiring therapist. Methods described in this book are safe for both the horse and owner.

The Basic Principles of Equine Massage/Muscle Therapy.......2002-11-12
Excellent book! Mike Scott communicates well with the lay person in easy to understand terms--almost as though he is speaking directly to you. His perspective is interesting--and the book is a great anotomey lesson or review as well. I highly recommend it and would look forward to a next addition.

Brilliant Book .......2006-07-13
I have been performing (and continually learning) massage for a couple of years now and thoroughly recommend this book. Not only does it discuss anatomy and a wide variety of massage techniques but it also goes into passive stretching and provides numerous excellent photos and diagrams.
Importantly this book shows right vs wrong when it comes to many stretches or techniques and this is a book that you can constantly dip into again and again to gain new insights.

Great Book!!.......2006-12-16
This is a great well written book. I love the chapter on massage with the pictures and great explanations on How-To. The intoductions to every chapter are great as are all the contents in the chapter. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to go "The Natural Way"!!
Chapters link common horse conditions to effective natural healing choices .......2006-06-23
Plenty of books cover horse health - but how many focus on natural treatments and options for preventing illness? Any who want to go the herbal route for the horse will welcome a book which covers not just herbs but massage, aromatherapy, vibrational healing and more. Chapters link common horse conditions to effective natural healing choices and expand greatly on the options a horse owner can choose for optimum horse health.

Customer Reviews:
There must be better books out there.......2007-07-09
I have seen amazing results from having a professional equine massage therapist work on my horse and hoped this book could teach me to give my horse massages that would supplement the professional ones. I was very disappointed.
The illustrations fall short of clarifying the text and the text is quite vague. The writing style is almost too casual and the author's use of British terms could be confusing to some. The book is very short and could have been shortened further if most of the pages weren't filled with white space and pictures of the author grinning like an idiot in poses that do not explain what she's doing.
The techniques the author describes makes one think that just currying a horse will sufice as a thorough massage. I imagine there are better books on how to give a sports massage to a horse. Hopefully I will come across one soon.
