Book Description
Almost half Dalí's illustrations in this book have rarely been seen
This publication presents the entire painted oeuvre of Salvador Dalí (1904-1989). After many years of research, Robert Descharnes and Gilles Néret finally located all the paintings of this highly prolific artist. Many of the works had been inaccessible for years - in fact so many that almost half the illustrations in this book have rarely been seen.

Even better as a whole.......2006-02-04
The value of this book is in its 1600+ image reproductions. A few of them are photos of Dali or the people and places that inspired him. A very few show existing artworks to which Dali's creations responded. The overwhelming majority, however, display Dali's own paintings or the sketches related to them.
And the mass of imagery is overwhelming. The book traces Dali's output from his early, formative periods onwards. Although Dali was productive in the 1920s, his familiar style emerged in the 1930s and simply expanded for the next half-century. The chronological organization of this book lets us see Dali's art and personality develop. Among other things, we see how his sketching evolved from pen drawings early in his career to loose oil sketches later. This also seemed to complete some kind of cycle, from the relative crudity of his early work, to the crystalline finish of his best-known years, back to imprecision again, but with all of his mature expressiveness.
By its attempt at completeness, this presents aspects of Dali that other authors often ignore. For example, Dali was profoundly influenced by Catholic Christianity. Although his personal beliefs may be difficult to fathom, he produced some of the most beautiful images of Christ ever created.
Descharne's commentary supports the images well, but it's hard to read. I don't mean that the text is badly written - quite the opposite, it is very helpful, especially in biographical notes that describe Dali's life at the time of each work. Instead, I mean that my thoughts can't stay on the words for long when the pictures take such command of my attention.

Art of Dali.......2004-03-22
I liked the book. The mix of explanations of the painting and his life was very descriptive. I learned a lot about his friends and famliy. The book just reminds me that in every genius there's a lunatic.
DALI at his best..................2004-02-21
After collecting, selling and trading Dali art works for more than 30 years, Mr. Robert Descharnes, one of Dali's past secretaries, has outdone himself in this magnificent book. Without a doubt it will become a collectors classic and a must for any serious Dali admirer. Well worth its price in gold!!!!!
dali in text and graphic.......2003-07-28

Most Useful.......2005-10-28
This was the most useful book for learning to draw birds that I have found to date. It was easy to follow, the drawings were accurate without being overly ornate, and the diversity of birds was perfect. I would recommend this book to anyone trying to learn to draw, and especially for those who want to draw birds.
Very good.......2003-02-05
good book. when Lee J. Ames draws with someone else it is a bit harder. still easy and fun.

Mallard Ducks.......2007-01-10
I was getting this book for my great granddaughter who is 3 yrs old
and has a small pond in back of her house. I thought she could learn something about the ducks who are sometimes there. I do not know how
she liked it since I have not spoken to her since I gave it to her over
Christmas. But it looked like a nice colorful little book that she could
learn something from. It arrived in good condition and in a reasonable
amount of time.
Book Description
This handy book is a comprehensive photographic study of over 150 exquisite full-color pictures of mallards from diverse regions in many natural environments and body positions. Most of the ducks shown are wild, but there are a few penned. The majority are in full breeding plumage while a few drakes in moult are included for identification. Author/photographer Tricia Veasey demonstrates in Mallards both her enthusiasm for this species of bird and her photographic talent. She has created here an excellent source book for artists, carvers, taxidermists and naturalists alike that will delight and inspire each individually.

Mallard Fillmore...on the Stump
ASIN: 0836207785 |
Customer Reviews:
Another right-wing hypocrite.......2006-12-17
Tinsley has just been arrested for drunk driving...again. Just another moralizing right-winger who can't walk the walk. There are a lot of those around these days. His comic strip is just as pathetic.
I know SM you made amazon take my review off .......2006-05-27
I read this comic( and books) and it's not funny in any of the sense of politcal humor, It is not even drop dead funny or sneaks up on you like great comics like Ted Rail, Doonesbury, or The Boondocks. At least there is some humor in P.J. O'Rourke's writings or when he edited the "National Lampoon". but Mallard Fillmore is just an excuse to vent Tinsley's politcal predjuices against Black Americans and so-called other liberal groups he dislikes. Hey Tinsley, If you are going to do "racial hunor" with a duck at least be funny.
Strawman Argument Much?.......2006-05-22
I sincerely hope people don't take the Mallard Fillmore strips as an accurate representation of liberal views. I have occasionally agreed with some of the comics i.e. This Sunday's (May 21, 2006) about how so much time is spent focusing on the "racism" in opposing illegal immigration than those trying to get into the country legally are overlooked and ignored. But these occasional good points do not make up for the excessive use of the "strawman argument" where the opposition's argument is stripped of all logic and made to look like the inane ramblings of a political moron. Just so people can laugh at them and feel better about themselves.
Fair and balanced? No. Avoids cheapshots? Yeah right. I'll stick with political comics that actually present the oppositions real argument, as opposed to a dumbed-down version that only a fool would actually agree with.
I read it for information and having the guts to say unpopular things about the "tolerant?" left........2006-02-08
Take a look at the negativity directed at my reviews of Boondocks (a current liberal fave) at the hypocrisy its creator calling Rush Limbaugh a racist for involving race in his material, yet Boondocks constantly deals with race
When Al Capp of Lil Abner fame became a conservative in the 60's, suddenly the former liberal darling had his strip drop from 900 to 400 newspapers.
Mallard's author has never condemned Doonsbury or Boondocks for their anti-conservative viewpoints, thus is not guilty of hypocrisy.
I read Mallard Fillmore for news the 90% liberal media will not print like racism and sexism from black leaders and feminists, intolerance from educational systems and unions, etc
Mallard Fillmore is like that All in the Family episode where they are playing a game and the Liberal Mike Stivic, who regulary pats himself on the back for being sensitive toward blacks (unlike the conservative Archie Bunker), can't take the black person Lionel claiming he is insensitive because Mike does it for selfish reasons.
It takes a lot of guts to say negative things about the "tolerant?", hypocrital left, given the intolerance they express when they don't like something, and do it in an entertaining and humorous manner
P.S. Why does amazon allow a no vote. It only creates a situation where people who can't take opinions who differ from themselves to enact petty revenge
Absolutely Hysterical!.......2005-12-25
It is a real shame that this book is out of print becuase it is one of the funniest books I have ever read in my entire life. It is laugh out loud, roll around the floor funny. It has moved into a tie with Calvin and Hobbes for the single funniest collection of comics I own.

Best Spinning book going.......2006-09-19
This has to be the most informative spinning book I've come across. For me it has been most helpful in detailing carding & spinning tips & tricks. Several 'ah-ha' moments while reading then spinning. I highly recommend this book for any beginner spinner. Totally inspiring to do more & push the limits!!
Indespensable, with great examples and exercises.......2006-02-01
Deb Menz's approach to using color in handspinning is firmly based on color theory yet fairly easy to understand and execute, with the help of photographed examples and formulas, exercises, etc. I own the Twisted Sister's book, which is good for inspiration but rather vague in terms of instruction and creating repeatable results. Menz covers handpainting, carding, combing and plying, and shows you how to use colors to achieve different results in each method. I feel that it's probably the only book I need on this subject, I love it!
Full of information, but why?.......2005-08-02
Debbie Menz is a fiber artist, and knows color like no one else. Yet I wonder why the processes have to be so lengthy and difficult? I let my grandsons--6 and 8 years old--dye some fiber this summer and spun it up randomly and ended up with wool looking similar to hers with minimal effort. The book is worth buying for the color theory, but I think there are less time consuming ways to produce the same spectacular yarns.
Color Me Happy!.......2001-05-15
Color theory and techniques for dyeing are only the beginning of the riches in this book. More importantly, it covers how to achieve color effects with fiber. I have found the detailed instructions on hand-combing and drum-carding to be indispensible.
Exciting and inspiring book.......2000-08-16
I received "Color In Spinning" as a gift and have found it to be one of the best, if not the best book on the subject of color blending that I have read. I was especially intrigued by the section on producing multi colored rovings using a hackle or combs. The many colored drawings and photographs throughout the book make her well written directions very easy to understand.
I am now making some wonderful multi colored yarns using the techniques explained so well in Deb Menz's woderful book and I highly recommend it to any hand spinner who wants to create their own unique one of a kind yarns.
