Book Description
Written by a vet and expert on homeopathy for animals, this is a guide to preparing and administering homeopathic treatments for cats, written to satisfy the needs of the increasing number of cat lovers who are interested in alternative methods with which to treat their pets.
Customer Reviews:
The ultimate homeopathic reference guide for cats!.......2003-12-17
If you have a cat or cats and you would like to learn more about the use of homeopathy in treating cats, this book is for you! Written by someone who was a great leader in the use of homeopathy with animals, there is no book written by any American author that can remotely compare with this one! I run a small, private feline sanctuary and this book has probably saved me THOUSANDS of dollars in vet bills.
This book should be used with caution........2001-02-10
This is a very detailed book for homeopathic remedies for cats. Each remedy is well described, but if you're serious about homeopathy you'll need a competent Materia Medica.
Moreover, the layout of the book follows an allopathic index, meaning by dis-ease and not by symptom. It may be useful to the novice but has nothing to do with classical homeopathy. I'd suggest you get Don Hamilton's book instead.
Unless you have already used homeopathy on yourself, I'd advise against using this book. Explore homeopathy in depth before using these on you cat.
Book Description
This decorating resource shows how to transform outdoor spaces on an extremely limited budget-only $ 250 or less per project-using paint, castaways and thrift store finds, easy crafts and sewing projects, and lots of creativity and elbow grease. Readers are taken through the entire transformation: preparing a space for a decorating overhaul, finding inspiration, achieving decorating goals within a tight budget, planning and organizing a project, and quick fixes and crafts projects that can refresh and beautify any outdoor space. Eighteen makeovers are profiled, showcasing a variety of spaces, including patios, porches, poolsides, balconies, sunrooms, decks, and courtyards. Each of the projects describes the homeowner's decorating dilemmas, his/her goals for the space, Peterson's proposed solutions, a shopping list, and how the makeover was achieved-all supported by full-color before-and-after photos.
Customer Reviews:
Kathy Peterson's Great Outdoor Decorating Makeovers.......2007-06-15
This book is an ideal resource for maximizing your outdoor space on a limited budget! It's full of wonderful and affordable outdoor decorating ideas and filled with incredible before and after photos. The author created eye-catching outdoor transformations using accessories, paint, spare furniture and low-cost ideas to turn rather drab outdoor spaces into beautiful and welcoming outdoor spaces--- all under $250. I found the book to be truly inspiring. Three well known national TV celebrities from HGTV and The Discovery Channel give the author and book many accolades. I rank it 5 stars.
Use color and repurposed indoor decor to create an inviting outdoor environment.......2006-05-10
This book gives the reader ideas on how to create an inviting outdoor living space on a budget. I live in the Southwest where outdoor living is a year 'round experience, and bought the book in hopes of developing a nice outdoor entertaining area. Ms. Peterson reminds the reader that painting isn't just for interiors. Paint has as great a bang for the buck outdoors as it does indoors. She gives a wide variety of sample palettes for the "color novice." She also teaches the reader about repurposing indoor decorative items to create an attractive outdoor living space. This is good news for those of us who have limited dollars and/or storage space -- it is much more practical to move indoor lamps, vases, cushions, etc. outside for a party and then take them back indoors to use day to day, than it is to purchase, maintain and also find storage for duplicate items to be used exclusively for outdoor entertaining. I hope other readers will find her ideas helpful, and enjoy the book as much as I have.
Budget Makeovers for Outdoor Living.......2006-03-13
If you aren't using your outdoor space much, it may be time for a makeover. This book takes rather blah patios and turns them into inviting outdoor living spaces. The best part is the price, as the author tries to keep each project under $250.
She is helped by the fact that most had decent furniture to start with, so her job was adding some cushions, plants and accessories for a polished look.
Probably the main message of the book is to pull your outdoor living space together with a unifying color scheme. Paint any furniture that doesn't match or is shabby. No need to shop for new items, just bring things from inside the house outside.
She breaks each project down into steps, showing how the changes meet the homeowners needs. I deducted one star since the book doesn't give actual how-to on the projects (sewing, painting).
It is useful to get ideas on grouping your furniture and using color for an attractive outdoor area (pool area, porch, balcony, patio, sunroom, courtyard, etc.)
I liked the idea of painting lines on concrete for a faux tile look. The book shows lots of colorful before and after photos.
(I hope you find this review helpful, and if you do, please click yes.)

Customer Reviews:
Not as good as as her first book.......2006-07-09
I did not like the layout of this book at all--particularly annoying was the fact that you had to turn pages between the "before" and "after" room drawing layouts-they should have been either put on facing pages or on the same page.
Also, her first book worked well because it seemed to focus more on average people with decorating issues, this book was definitely skewed towards people with scads of money like the people with the view home in Laguna Beach, who practically had walls made of windows--hardly what the average person is looking to showcase!
I would borrow this one from the library, but buy her first book.
My New Favorite!.......2006-06-26
What a pleasant surprise. Use What You Have Decorating has been my favorite interior design book for years. It actually taught me what I was doing wrong and how to make it right. I still refer to it when I have questions.
But Home Therapy has brought my decorating education to another level. It has impressive before and after photos, interesting stories and a ton of really useful advice.
If you want to give your home a new stylish look you will be very happy with what you can achieve from reading it. Highly recommended.
Great Advice with Gratifying Results.......2005-12-06
Anyone who feels their home needs help in the decorating department will be surprised and pleased when they see what they can achieve after reading Home Therapy. Like Lauri Ward's previous books her newest volume of makeovers also shows us how we can give our homes a whole new look without cleaning out our checking accounts. This book has color photos and really fascinating personal stories which make it even more interesting. All in all it is her best book yet. Highly recommended.
Note to reviewer "CnK" from Texas: From your review it is clear that you did not read Ward's previous "how to" books which are filled with excellent information. Try reading her classic "Use What You Have Decorating."
Same over and over - not enough How To.......2005-12-02
Her top 10 decorating mistakes in the first chapter are good info. But then the rest of the chapters are about different clients and their makeovers. Too much time is spent describing the room (this lamp here, this picture there) both before and after....and not enough description of HOW she knew to put what where to make them better. The before and afters are dramatic, and it's amazing what can be done with what one already has. But she doesn't impart enough direction to the reader on how to know what would go good where.
Not My Favorite Lauri Ward Book.......2005-11-26
I own Lauri's two other books and am a big fan of "Use What You Have" decorating. The things that I did not like about her latest book, "Home Therapy," for one, are the use of black and white photographs in her "before" pictures. It was really hard to see the details in these shots. Second was the use of too much description. (I know what you're thinking-how could there be too much description?)Lauri goes into lots of details about the clients' rooms and I found myself flipping the pages back and forth to try to see everything she was pointing out. Very confusing. If I were going to recommend one of Lauri's books it would definitely be her first one.("Use What You Have Decorating.")I love it and have bought it for friends.

Customer Reviews:
Great ideas and DIY projects.......2006-05-19
This book addresses rooms with various challenges and offers solutions. Filled with great ideas and DIY projects. Great "before and after" book.
My favorite decorating book.......2005-09-10
I am building a new home and have collected many magazines and books on decorating. This book is great at showing how to lay out furniture in various rooms and shows many options. It has before and after photos with explanations that are very helpful. I keep returning to this book as it is easy to work with and shows how to arrange and decorate with many things I already own. Great Book!!
Remarkable Results!.......2004-05-04
I have read a ton of interior design books, and for the most part, I kept thinking I would learn through osmosis, by looking at the beautiful pictures and hoping for inspiration. Unfortunately, my home did not reflect my love of interior design, which for me, is the ultimate test of effectiveness.
This book takes Lauri Ward's "Use What You Have Decorating" book, which had some good ideas, and goes much further in showing you in each photo how you can arrange your furniture and accessories into a beautiful home. It tells you the basic rules, how to balance items visually, and why these tips work. Since I bought the book, I've been moving my furniture and rearranging my tabletops and I am amazed at how beautiful the results are. I'm ready to toss all of my old decorating books, and just leave this book on my shelf. I am surprised at how well this book has worked for me.
Before and After Pics!.......2004-04-24
I really love this book because of the clear before and after pictures. They take a room and rearrange it using the existing furniture and describe what was done. It is amazing what placement can do. You really get a sense of why certain rooms work and you take away furniture/object placement techniques to improve any room. If you are into furniture layout, you will love this book.
A book to help you give your rooms that complete look.......2003-12-27
This isn't a book for people who are starting from scratch with absolutely nothing. This is a book to improve the look of what you already have by just adding a few simple accessories. The examples they use are rooms that need the the finishing touches and the book gives you the explanation to complete the room.
For me it is always easy to start the room but not complete the overall look.
This book is a very useful source to complete your look.
I finally found the book to help me in this area.

Vivid splashes of color enliven walls, windows, and flea-market furnishings in this breezy collection of simple but effective mini-makeovers. Beautifully designed pages offer eye-catching photos and easily digested instructions for dozens of inexpensive contemporary-style projects, most of which can be completed in an hour or an afternoon. Besides the usual (dressers, coffee tables, picture frames, walls, and floors transformed with paint, fabric, paper, and glue), there are lots of nifty accents: drawer handles crafted from glass beads or a rustic twig; placemats that are actually blackboards for guests to scribble on; a shower curtain bedecked with plastic roses; tea lights covered in glitter; even a brilliant way to organize the ever-cluttered sock drawer (strips of polypropylene fastened in a criss-cross pattern to create dividers). The directions are not terribly extensive, but almost everything's easy enough that this approach is sufficient. --Amy Handy

beatiful unique pictures.......2006-03-30
This A Beatiful and Unique book. My only problem with the books is that the instructions could have been a little better. I have already redone my kitchen table with artist canvas as in one of her projects and it came out wonderful.
I love this book!.......2002-03-02
Finally I found a book that matches my decorating sensibilties. I love funky, unconventional decor, and this book, not only provides great projects for those interested in more color and quirkiness than Martha can muster, it also acts as a springboard for one's own ideas. The projects look straightforward (one can marvel at how sparse, but effective the instructions are), and are easily adaptable. I am goin to be looking for all her books. For anyone who loves the decorators of BBC's Changing Rooms, I would also recommend they check out Petra Boase. (As a side note, after moving from London back to the States I found this book and was surprised that she does work for one of my favorite stores in Notting Hill where I lived!)
Great Ideas for a young suburban adult.......2000-09-05
The ideas in this book are all great, as long as you like modern decorating styles...such as a blue glitter chair, a bright red latex painted chair, glitter tealights, and feathered lamp shades. If you are looking for more of a contemporary but also a more reserved look you should check out Home File by Christine Dimmick, she uses the same ideas as Boase,(decorating on a budget and making trash into treasures) but at the same time she caters to a more sophisticated style. I am going into professional design and will definitly add this book to my shelf and will refer to it when I get a client that wants a modern look, but this book is definitly not for someone with conservative tastes.
Cute, but not realistically helpful.......2000-07-05
The best thing about this book was the photography; all of the projects were well-photographed. However, as a new apartment owner I was looking for more "mature" and classic decorating ideas . . . most of the projects in this book were trendy and colorful, not quite as sophisticated as I had hoped. Although it did have some cute decorating ideas and I'm sure most of the projects could be adapted to suit one's own style, I am not a crafty, do-it-myself person who has time or knowledge to learn how to go about renovating furniture and painting knick-knacks for the wall.
What a find!.......2000-03-29
This is a really clever book. The ideas are so fresh and modern. The projects are easy to understand and accompianied by great photography. I think the ideas could be easily adapted to fit into a wide variety of budgets and levels of sophistication. It's a must for anyone who loves funky designs and enjoys a "do it yourself" approach to decorating. It's also just a fun book to look at, very colorful and full of photos.
