Very thorough in listing all the types of brackish fish and their requirements. Worth getting if you are setting up such a tank. Makes the task less challenging.
Excellent as ID GUIDE for Brackish Fish.......2007-07-21
Compared to the Aqualog Brackish fish book which focused a lot on brackish water habitats and chemistry this book focused mostly on various brackish water fish. This book will tell you where the fish are from, what type of water conditions they need, and behavior of the species or the whole genus.
So why buy this? As I said it focuses on different types of brackish water fish (and their salinity requirements) listing a lot more species than any other book I have read. This is why this book is a must have for the brackish water enthusiast who wants to know of species beyond the usual stock most books cover or list as brackish.
I give the book 4 stars because I think there could have been more on brackish habitats and on the plants found in them. THis book does tend to focus on what you are mostly like to find in a petshop but I wish it had told of plants and substrates not found easily but could be found for the persistent hobbyist like myself.

This is a great book with lots of info (more than other books) about the habitats the most frequently found brackish water fish are found in. It has scats, monos, gobies, skippers, datnoids, etc. Ther great thing about this book it tells you about the fish listed as brackish that really are not. Something unique to this book is it discussion on how to set up a tidal system for your fish to mimic natural systems. Whgat is missing is typical aquarium info like ph,dh, etc for the fish and their tolerance levels. This book is more about the fish itself than how to keep it in my opnion. Of course there are tons of books with the aforementioned info so they probably decided to give something new. There is some info on water parameters but this is told in a general sense (like D. micro. needing freshwater while D. quadri. and D camp. need brackish without telling you a recommended SG). Well worth the buy for new info on brackish fish. Puts to rest some misconceptions. Buy it if you are a brackish fish enthusiast. For brackish beginners I recommend Neale Monks book as this book is for those that already have the basic information.

The Very Best Reference Books.......2007-01-20
All of the Aqualog books are excellent value, although they are not particularly cheap. They are full to the brim with first class colour photographs and to reproduce these in a book is an expensive process. Whether they are about Puffer fishes, or some other species of fish they are the most comprehensive identification books you can buy. They never become dated because as new fish become available to the aquarist trade the books are updated.
They do not deal with the basics of fish keeping, there are many and varied books that do that. They are in the main a fish identification encyclopaedia and nothing more. But for those aquarists who are particularly interested in a single species they are indispensable.
RARE FIND.......2007-01-12
I started off with 2 figure 8 puffers and fell in love with puffers. I now have 7 different species. I had a total of 10 different species but 3 of them died. I was desparate to find a book strictly about puffers. A pet store employee who also had an mbu puffer knew that I collected puffers and had ordered me this book. I now call it my bible. There are many bright and colorful pictures but the information on each puffer is very general. Ebert goes a little more into detail about the puffers that he had owned throughout his years of raising puffers. I use it mainly to match the species to the name (many times, pet stores do not give the correct name or scientific name). Then it's easier to look up more info on the internet. I like this book a lot just because it focuses on fresh and brackish water puffers only. There are so many books on goldfishes, cichlids, etc, but it's so hard to find one on puffers. Also, everying is measured in metric so I had to convert every measurement into gallons or inches.

I read the book and enjoyed all the photos from cover to cover!
Robert Lee Morris is such a great natural designer, very genuine as human being.
I found many similarities with his life and mine as a jewelry designer.
I discovered that my first pieces were much like his style, when I didn't knew who he was and never saw his work before.
Totally inspiring. You can be tempted to tear and frame the photos of the book as art pictures!

This book is more that the best expected. I am familiar with The RLM jewelry line and know this artist to be innovative and creative. This book gives an fascinating look at the man as a sculptor and jewelry designer.

In a world of cookie cutter jewelry where factories manufacture the latest trendy piece, thank goodness there is Robert Lee Morris. RLM is a very spiritual designer who is attuned to nature, human sensuality and an unending stream of creativity. I have never been to his studio in Soho, NYC. But I do buy his stunning silver jewelry on QVC. Whenever he is on tv, he presents pieces that are not only unique in design, but pieces that beg to be touched. His pieces are filled with spirit and love. For example, he created a twisted heart bracelet where the hearts literally flow into one another, rather than connecting them with the usual chunky links. He created a large molded heart ring that has FORGIVE inscribed on the inside. He takes the ordinary and makes it extraordinary.
I encourage those who are not familiar with his pieces to try a pair of his exquisite earrings. I also encourage all current and future jewelry designers to study this book and his pieces. Here is one of the most innovative and prolific designers of our time. Study his book, go to his Soho studio, and check out the shopping site that sells his jewelry. You will be glad you did.
One more thing. RLM's book is not just a history of his jewelry and how it was made and sold over the past thirty-five years. This book is a history of fashion, makeup and accessories and how they were designed and sold via the runway over the past three decades. This is a fascinating history of some of our most famous designers and the marriage of fashion and accessories.
MORE THAN JUST BEAUTIFUL.......2004-10-23
Women have been adorning themselves with jewelry and body art almost since time began. What earlier generations did not have was the imagination of award winning designer Robert Lee Morris whose bold, dramatic creations in gold and silver are worn by the famous, such as Madonna, Oprah, Cher, as well as the lady next door.
The son of an air force pilot and a former fashion model, Morris was exposed at any early age to differing cultures. A four year stint in Japan left him with lasting memories of the beauty and customs of that country. Undoubtedly, this experience and others have been an inspiration to him.
"I had a very powerful vision in my head when I first began to make jewelry," he writes. "It was this specific, cinematic image that grounded me and gave me a sound place from which all my work sprang in the early years, from 1970 to 1980. A great jewelry book!.......2007-02-06
I borrowed this book from the library and I already like it. There's a ton of different styles,so that you'll never get bored. For the most part the jewelry looks pretty easy to make. There are some harder things too though. The instrucions are easy to follow with black and white pictures to show you how different techniques are done.There's a section in the back that tells you the basic beading tools and beads you need to have,what the tools are used for,techniques,and other helpful stuff. The jewelry is really cute and not old fashioned or anything. A lot of the stuff looks like something you'd buy at a store. I'd give this book 6 stars if I could! If you want to make jewelry I'd diffently buy this book!
Introduce girls to the world of beads.......2003-12-18
This is a book of real beading techniques, using authentic beading supplies to introduce the world of beads and jewelry-making to young teens. There are lots of projects to choose from, including necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, headbands, ponytail holder, hair clips, etc. Most of the projects use seed beads, but many other beads can be used, too. Techniques show beading on jewelry wire, memory wire, and thread, and the use of standard supplies and tools such as crimp beads, clasps, pliers, and wire cutters.
There is only one true-life photo that shows the finished jewelry, and it's on the cover in color. However, in the photo, the teen model is wearing a ton of jewelry, and the details and styles cannot be seen. The same photo is shown enlarged on the first page of the book in black and white, but still does not give a clear idea of the finished products. The book would be so much more motivating if the projects were shown in color photographs. The black and white illustrated instructions are pretty good, simple and easy enough to follow, but the drawings result in a cartoon-like look, as if this is not an art, but "crafts for kids".
For girls (or boys) who are really interested in learning the art of jewelry beading, the book is really a great start. The book itself is not "pretty" or motivating, so the young beader will need to be able to envision the end product and follow the instructions and diagrams carefully.

The information in this book is accurate, interesting and very readable. The ilustrations are superb.
An invaluable resource for anyone studying diamonds but also written in such a way that it is of general interest.

Comprehensive.......2002-09-25
I believe that this is the most comprehensive general textbook on diamonds out there. It covers EVERYTHING: natural history, the diamond industry, diamond-cutting, gemology, jewelry, mythology and symbolism, chemistry and physics, natural formation and man-made synthesis... The original research is very impressive (it was commissioned by the French Natural History Museum to when they did their blockbuster exhibition on diamonds a couple of years ago). Among other things, it convincingly rebuts the theory that diamond-cutting was invented in India and presents a considerable amount of information on famous diamonds from archive sources. The illustrations are also impressive, including archive photos from De Beers that were developed and printed for the first time in over a century.
