We are about ready to get our first puppy in 10days. Friends of ours went out and bought us this book.They has also used it on their puppy but a different breed. i found it very useful and simple to understand. We will find out helpful it was in 10days. I would get it for a 1st time user.

If you only have one book on Goldens, this should be it!.......1998-05-19

I've not seen a more complete book on the subject of Golden Retrievers. While most photographs are black and white, they show an extensive variety as to look. Mrs. Fischer's insight and discussion on Goldens is superb. Her book includes History, Genetics, An Analytical Discussion of the Breed Standard, Training, Field Trials, Tracking, Obedience, Confirmation, Care, Breeding and Raising, Golden Legends, Leaders for the Blind, Pedigrees and more. This truly is a wonderful book that I would recommend to any Golden owner. It's complete. Mrs. Fischer's love of these dogs is evident.

I would recommend this book for six to ten-year-old readers. Constance W. McGeorge wrote this book with creativity to allow children to enjoy the story. The children would enjoy the way Boomer is the main character and his thoughts are told in the book. Boomer is a friendly golden retriever who becomes confused when his family is moving. Boomer cannot understand why everything is disappearing from his house when he woke up one morning.

A pet lover's aid to moving day.......2002-08-06

Although we were not moving very far, I wanted to prepare my 3 year old with a book to which she could relate. Because we are animal lovers with a dog like Boomer, this book helped my child understand what was going on in her life. The book is told through a narrator in the dog's point of view. The illustrations are also at "dog-eye level." I looked at other books, but this one met my needs the most, because it tells the tale in a vantage point similar to my child's. My daughter is too young to really resist moving, but she didnt' "get" the idea that everything she owned would be coming with us and that the new house would be just as good if not better than the old. Boomer tells the story from a confused beginning to a happy ending once he discovers his new house has wonderful things for him to do and new friends to make. I highly recommend this book to help your little one's moving day transition.

This book is a wonderful book about a golden retriever who know's it will not be a regular day! More and More boxes appear in the house,and less and less things appear in the house and are put in moving vans! Will Boomer like his new home? This is a great book to read to kids who are moving and don't wanna leave!

This is a wonderful book for those who love dogs and children. The illustrations are clear and detailed showing many household items. My 1 year old son has this book with him at EVERY meal, and spends several minutes on each page, identifying each item. It is a wonderful learning tool.

A great book to read to kids........1999-08-21

This is a great book to read to kids. It has a great story, wonderful pictures with clarity for a 1 yr old, yet enough detail that my 3 yr old still loves it every time. If you like dogs, you'll love this, and if you are going through a move, this book is a must for young kids.

Wonderful.......2007-04-14

Thinking that I was about to read a nice children's story about two Golden Retrievers, I was surprised and delighted to find that, as I continued reading, this little book has a huge heart. Jennie Hale has captured the magic and wonder of two siblings who realize how much they care for and love one another. Children who read this story, or have it read to them, will certainly hear its heartfelt whisper of kindness and feel its joy. Great job.

What is it about golden retrievers that makes a dog lover, young or old, go wild?

In Baby Dog Beans Comes Home, author Jennie Hale captures the sweet "magic" of these gentle, devoted, intelligent dogs while offering young children an important message they can identify with.

The story is seen from the perspective of Paul, the older dog who until now has been the only "child" in the family, and Beans, the new baby brother. More than anything, Beans wishes to be accepted by his older brother, but Paul is not ready to be friends, play catch, or share any of his toys. As a matter of fact, Paul liked it a lot better when it was just him. All this changes when Beans runs into serious trouble and Paul rescues him.

As Paul realizes in the end, "It's not always easy when a new brother or sister comes into the family. But even if you're not best friends right away... give them a chance and you'll have someone who'll be there for you your whole life. And that's pretty great."

This is a book that can be read to a very young child, and one that early readers will relish on their own. The large, adorable photographs are sure to delight people of all ages.

This is a wonderful book for children whether or not they're experiencing the event of a new baby in the family, The photographs amazingly fit the text. In a very few pages we are captivated by these lovely pups, and come away with a smile in our hearts.

Magical Journey Through A Dog.......2005-04-07

If you thought that it was only a can of Winalot that could take a magical journey through a dog, then you are wrong. Before reading this book I was disconnected from mother Earth. I spat at pigeons in the street, ate sausage rolls (minimum 8% meat) from Gregg's the Bakers and had been sadly lost to the infinite dream web of Maia.

But then Delphi came along and helped me to regain my connectedness to the sacred circle of animals to which we - as humans - a type of ape with only a small amount of fur - belong.

So now, if I do eat a bacon double cheeseburger at McDonald's, I make sure I 'square the circle' as Delphi would say, by going for a massive dump in the woods afterwards.

From the starting point of a dog which is "so untrained" that the owner is unsure it's ready to function at an animal show much less in civil society, and the premise that this dog nonetheless "talks" through its master and reveals "great secrets", it would seem this book would have nowhere to go but up, but alas, it goes down from there.

Skip this book and spend a while looking at NASA's photographs from the Hubble Space Telescope to get a real sense of the beautifully lonely vastness of the universe and the value of sticking together as living beings.

Golden Retriever Kennel Club Dog Breed Series.......2007-01-15

This book was purchased for a child 10 yrs of age, he and I read the book together going over different pointers for raising and learning about the Golden Retriever we got as a puppy. It was extremely informational and I recommend it to anyone who is going to get a puppy of the same breed.
