Book Description

WALKING MY DOG, JANE is Rozell's tribute to his adopted state and to the travel partner who carried Rozell's heart, and her own backpack, during a summer spent outdoors walking the 800-mile length of the trans-Alaska pipeline.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fun and interesting read.......2007-01-06

This was a good book about a fellow who decides to walk the Alaska Pipeline from Valdez to Prudhoe Bay with his Chocolate Lab, Jane. He took all summer to do it and chronicles the trip in the book. He did some research on the places he visited as well as the pipeline so it was very interesting from that point of view but also from his writing about walking, solitude, and his dog.

5 out of 5 stars Evoking Alaska.......2006-07-26

I spent my teenage years in Fairbanks and traveled from Bristol Bay to the Arctic Circle, though not even nearly as intimately and exhaustively as Ned Rozell. But luckily I found his book through a family member there who knows him. His descriptions of the landscapes, the characters, the attitudes, and even the whine of the mosquitoes all take me back to Alaska. It's absolutely true to the people and places I knew and it makes for a delightful read! Plus, I can't tell you how grateful I am to escape to the land of the midnight sun when it is 112 degrees here in central California. I hereby solemnly swear to take my kids to canoe on the Chena and pick wild blueberries on Ester Dome next summer!

5 out of 5 stars A Once in a Lifetime Adventure.......2005-08-18

Having traveled in Alaska, I think many others have had the desire to take a similar journey. The story was very well written as my interest was held from the moment I started reading. The author does an excellent job of telling his and Janes many adventures along the trip.It makes you fell you are right there with them.I recommend the book for anyone who has had that l ifelong desire to do something they have never found time to do.I really enjoyed the book.Made me feel I was back in Alaska.

5 out of 5 stars Read this Book!.......2004-10-09

I really enjoyed this book and purchased it after reading Ned's online journal of his trek through the Alaskan wilderness. I too could not put it down and have ordered a few copies to give to people as gifts. There really is something in this for everyone, from young to old and not only do you get an honest glimpse into the author's life, but also a look at the lives of the people that he meets along the way.

I grew up in same town as Ned, attended the same high school and recognize a similiar outlook on life as many of my friends from there. I hope someday he considers writing about that part of his own "journey".

5 out of 5 stars Well worth the Read then Share then Re-Read and always enjoy.......2004-07-17

I must admit there have been several ways that this book has landed in my lap, but I'm thankful to all the pointers! I really enjoyed my first reading of it to the point where I loaned a copy to a friend of mine ... who promptly decided she needed her own! This is one of those books that takes you on a very human adventure and you really feel as though you are a part of Ned and Jane's lives. In a long drive this summer, I've brought this friend of a book with me. I recommend it to EVERYONE who is moving along in their lives. Simply AMAZING!

      Book Description

Collectors around the world have enjoyed the animals figurines created by Royal Doulton for over a century. The 3rd edition of The charlton Standard Catalogue of Royal

Doulton Animals has been updated to include the new models introduced over the past few years, and to reflect the current market value of all Doulton animal figurines.

The three new series added to the 3rd edition are: The Charles Noke Collection, a tribute to Noke, whose classic model of a Polar Bear Monter and Her Cub was remodelled in 2001, by Robert Tabbenor, and issued in a limited edition of 200; the second series, modelled by Alan Maslankowski, Art is Life, contains beautifully sculpted animals such as wolves, bears, and horses; the third series, Burslem Artwares, contains the majestic flambé T'ang Horse and several other flambé pieces.

What appears to be the most buoyant niche in the Animal market today is the stoneware models of mice and frogs created by George Tinworth. The prices realized of these classic sculptures seem to escalate continuously when they appear at auction. There are well over 60 models created by

      George Tinworth.

Each listing provides the model number, size, colour, designer, dates of issue and discontinuation, and the different glaze varieties that can be found on certain models. More than 1,200 illustrations on more than 475 pages results in a catalogue that covers the complete range of Royal Doulton Animals.

        Customer Reviews:

        5 out of 5 stars A Must-Have.......2000-04-19

This is a wonderful "story" book - it covers the story of the pottery and the people who helped make it what it is today. It's a well-written, easy-to-read accounting - I read it in one sitting! It's not a complete reference of pieces created by the pottery, but it has wonderful full color photos of many items which are worth the price alone!

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely worth the read!.......2000-03-14

I have been collecting Hagen Renaker for 30 years and this book still added to what I knew about the factory and it's artists. The text is well written and informative and the pictures are luscious! It's a definite must have for the Hagen Renaker collector.

        5 out of 5 stars I love this book!.......2000-03-06

Hagen-Renakers have been a passion of mine since I saw my first "Forever Amber" in the early 1970s. Later, I was driven to collect information on H-R and that drive resulted in the H-R Handbook in 1989 and the Charlton Guide in 1999. To me, Nancy's book transcends the mere information-gathering and tells the Hagen-Renaker story - the whys and wherefores of this bunch of people expressing themselves in clay. They made so many things - goofy, beautiful, bizarre - you just knew something special had to be going on there. The colors and detail of some pieces is just amazing and Nancy's book shows that.

I hate to admit it, but sometimes I dream of H-Rs and I absolutely got gooseflesh when I read of Pat Kristof still dreaming of being "at the pottery after all those years." This book is that dream.

          Book Description

The eighth edition of Storybook Figurines, A "Charlton Standard Catalogue," is completely updated with recent releases and current market values. Royal Doulton, Royal Albert, and Beswick storybook figurines are illustrated and their technical data listed.

Thirty-two colour plates are disbursed throughout the book in eight page sections. The first two sections, or 16 pages, are devoted to the figures of Beatrix Potter. Almost all `BP' figures, along with their varieties (177 individual images) are illustrated to assist in identifying the different characters in your collection. The third 8-page colour section, is devoted to Jill Barklem's Brambly Hedge storybook figures, 68 individual images, which may be used by the collector to assist in building a meaningful collection. The final eight page colour section covers the Royal Doulton issues of the Winnie the Pooh collection, 69 figures are illustrated in this group.

The main body of the catalogue, which includes the black and white images, the technical data, and prices, has been reviewed and updated to bring it current to 2005. Eight new releases were added to the Brambly Hedge chapter, while nine were added to the Winnie the Pooh section. Millennium Collectables added three new releases to their popular line of 20th Century Advertising Collectables.

The fast moving collectable market, brought on by the on-line auctions, is instrumental in the Storybook catalogue now being published on an annual basis. Price movements now dictate that if collectors wish to be current, they must have a current program.

            Book Description

The third edition has been completely revised with all prices updated to reflect the current market for the coming year.

During 1999 and 2000 the Charlton Press published two Royal Worcester price guides, Figurines and Animals, to serve the Worcester collector, believing they represented two different collecting venues. However, two catalogues proved unnecessary, this move simply increased the cost, inconvienced the collector, and the solution was obvious, publish one catalogue for all Royal Worcester figures.

All Royal Worcester Figures from 1900 to date, have been amalgamated into one volume. The third edition is 320 pages of Royal Worcester Figures listed in RW numerical order, the complete figurine and animal range. Also included with this revised edition are 32 pages of colour illustrations showing figures from the past 100 years. An alphabetical index is included for collector cross referencing between RW number and figurine name.

New additions to an earlier series "Les Petites" coupled with four new series, "Moments," "Ladies of Literature," "Southern Belles" and "Ladies of the Isles" are all incorporated into the new listing bringing the third edition current to 2005.

Naturally, all information carried in the previous catalogues has been brought forward, designer, size, colourways, dates of issue and discontinuation, varieties and pricing are all updated for the current market place, which a collector or dealer will need for 2005.

With the rebirth of the famous Worcester Candle Snuffers in 2000 we have taken the liberty of adding the new Connoisseur Collection to the figurine catalogue. Over fifty snuffers issued between 2000 and 2004 are listed and priced.
