Beginner's best buy for overall horse owning & care. No secret things to "do on the trail or getting there", but a comprehensive introduction. A must for early horse riders (who can read). Great resource section in Appendix.

Stellar Guidebook!.......2003-03-23
An Unbelievable book! Having biked parts of this trail myself, The attention to detail that Ms. Lankford has supplied is astouding! I have read many guidebooks covering many topics, and this is one of the best, from the mileage markers, to the detailed maps, to the great photos. Additionally, the book doubles as a great adventure story of two slightly crazy, but totally ambitious girls! I reccomend this book without hesitation.
Buy it and bike it........2003-03-18
I just got Andrea Lankford's guide and getting my hands on it is bittersweet: I love the book... but really could have used this guide a couple of months ago. In November and December of 2002 I became the first solo thru biker of the Arizona Trail (AZT) and the third thru biker ever. During my journey I relied on photocopied maps, second hand advice, and a crumpled road map-certainly not the thorough guidebook that is available today. Lankford supplies us long distance adventurers with a guide complete with accurate trail descriptions, exact mileage, humor, an easily readable text, maps, and photos. Lankford is truly adept at writing a guide after thru biking the AZT, thru hiking the 2160-mile Appalachian National Scenic Trail, and serving as a National Park Service EMT/Forest Ranger. They said Andrea Lankford and her partner Beth Overton could'nt hack this 800-mile mountain, canyon, plateau, and desert route, but they were wrong. And if anyone ever said that a great guide could not come out of their expedition, they were clearly incorrect as well. As being the only other person to bike this gorgeous and challenging trail besides Andrea Lankford's friend Beth, I can tell ya one thing for sure: this baby gets 5 stars.

If this book is supposed to be a how-to book as its title states, it falls very short. I couldn't find anything of use for me, since I want to restore much more delicate models, than those shown. Even the things the author talks about do not really explain how to do anything.

An absolutely worthless book!.......2004-08-03
This book basically says "sandblast the rust and then buy the missing parts". At best, it is a book about renovation not restoration. "The hubcaps 'appeared to be chrome' so we re-chromed them" is not a restoration statement but that of a hack. There is nothing on research (color matching, decals, creating missing parts, and so forth) and his examples are an endless repetition of the same theme of sandblasting . . . blah blah blah. He can't even tell you how to restore a serious dent or bend in the metal. The author does not seem to be a restoration expert but a writer about restoration. There is padding in the form of photographs of collectors. Tin plate models are really not covered in any depth yet these are the most difficult to restore. The list of suppliers of parts is pathetic. Don't waste your money. It is not even worth a 1 star rating.

Not a bad catalog..........2007-03-09
The book is a catalog of Ford trucks down the years, and as such is exactly that. There are some problems with the book - there are keywords in some of the truck data tables that are NEVER explained, but otherwise the book is a good reference for those interested in looking up information on older Ford trucks.

Great history book.......2006-05-20
The definitive resource for GMC trucks, at this time, anyway. Though the book is slim, the authors managed to pack quite a large amount of information and photos in it. All sorts of GMC trucks are covered: light to heavy, old to new, military to civilian. And it doesn't focus only on the trucks; even key personnel changes within GMC are detailed. My only two gripes with the book are, yes, the number of misidentified pictures, and the number of factory photos--more contemporary photos would be nice! However, those minor gripes hardly detract from this excellent book. Overall, a most fascinating read!

Lots of nice factory pictures, and quite a bit of good story about what was going on behind the scenes at G.M. Truck and Coach. The book's strong point is its coverage of the 1960's, when G.M.C. produced a staggering number of different models. I would recommend it, particularly as there isn't any other titles in print devoted exclusively to G.M.C..
Pretty Pictures.......2002-04-12
A number of the truck photos are incorrectly identified. Noticeably in the 1940's and 1950's Being able to identify correct years and models would seem basic to a truck history book. These errors leave the rest of the "Official History" suspect. If you are looking for a pretty coffee table book then this is it. If you are looking for GMC history I would not recommend this book.
