5 out of 5 stars Great Book if you're starting your own business.......2007-08-14

This is a great book for those trying to start their own business and have captured Cat Lover's as clients. The recipes are simple and come with a fish shaped cookie cutter.

3 out of 5 stars A bit childish.......2007-07-03

I was surprised this book was like a childrens book. The one with cardboard thick pages. So it did not contain many recipes. However, the treat cookie cutter was cool.

5 out of 5 stars This book is a treat!.......2007-02-11

This book is the only one most anyone would need if they want to make some homemade cat treats. It has straightforward, fairly easy recipes with ingredients that are easily found in any grocery store. The book is colorful and attractive. The little fish-shaped cookie cutter is adorable. (You have to break each treat into two or three pieces before giving them to your cat.) I plan to give some of these homemade goodies to all the cats in my family next Christmas.

5 out of 5 stars Great simple recipes book for your cats!!.......2006-10-08

Okay - so there are a few recipe books out there for cats and most have many many more recipes. So after going to Border's myself and decided to choose this one mainly for these reasons...

1. It is a boardbook and I like boardbooks in the kitchen. Easy to clean and wipe down.

2. Every ingredient is already in your house or you get it at any grocery store. Nothing expensive either. The only thing I needed to purchase that I don't normally do is some liver for the one recipe.

3. The cookie cutter!! Not every recipe can use it and even for the ones you can, you don't have to. But it is nice to do with kids and especially nice to make them for gifts to other cat lovers. Oh and for the holidays, you can use other cookie cutters or even use food coloring for green and red. We made great little baskets for a few friends with felines. What a hit!

4. The recipes are easy easy easy! It isn't a whole hassle to make these snacks. Takes no time at all. And really, how many cat recipes are you really going to make over a lifetime? I don't see any need for a treat book with 100+ recipes that are too time consuming and expensive to make - oh and boring to look at. The 12 or so that are in this book are plenty for us and it is always fun looking at the great pics.

5. My main reason though is that my daughter who is 5 loves to help and it is simple, easy for her to read, she can't rip it or destroy it. I personally think these are great gifts to give for kids. We gave the dog recipe book, which is very similar, to her little friend with 2 dogs and she LOVED it. Great for kids 5-12yrs old.

6. The most important reason is that my 2 cats LOVE THEM!!

5 out of 5 stars Nice Book.......2001-07-24

This book contains very basic recipes with ingredients that can be found in any food store around the country. Directions were very clear and since the book is coated, it's very easy to clean. I would recommend this book.

1 out of 5 stars Tempting treats for... whom???.......2007-05-11

I cooked 12 recipes from this book following the instructions exactly. ALL my 7 cats HATED EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!!!

5 out of 5 stars Good book, GREAT illustrations.......2007-01-04

These are some good recipes, but what really shines is the illustrations. I will be watching Troy Cummings' career with great interest.

5 out of 5 stars Tempting Treats.......2006-12-15

I'm not sure why the Tuna recipe was not successful for one reviewer, because it is one of my cats' favorites (I have 4 finicky felines). Of the 4 recipes they have tried, the Tuna treats are definitely at the top of their list. While tuna is not my favorite smell, I didn't find it too offensive once cooked and the cats went wild (they even sat up, which is usually reserved for cheese treats). I would recommend this cookbook for any cat owner who wants wholesome treats that are not crammed with fillers like the store-bought ones are. I agree that this is a nice gift idea for any cat lover and have an extra copy on-hand just for that occasion.

5 out of 5 stars Delightful Treat.......2006-12-14

I found this cat treat cookbook to be just delightful! The recipes are fast, easy, and healthy too. What a fun way to show your cats they are special to you. There is even a recipe for catnip tea. The artwork adds a charming touch. This little book would make a great gift for any cat lover on your list.

5 out of 5 stars my cats are finicky.......2006-12-12

After years of buying kitty treats from the store only to have at least one (out of three of my cats) turn up their noses, I decided to try making my own.

With the help up this book I have finally come up with a couple of recipes to make treats that all my cats love (and make extra to give to friends with cats). I also feel good that that I can control the quality and freshness of the ingredients.

Book Description

The first book to examine the environmental, dietary, and lifestyle-related causes of cancer in pets and to assess the full spectrum of treatments--both alternative and conventional.

• Foreword by Gary Kowalski, author of The Souls of Animals.

• Cancer is the leading killer of cats and dogs, but this book explains that it is often preventable.

• Includes research on dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits, and guinea pigs.

• A valuable resource for all pet owners, whether their animals are still healthy or not.

Cancer is now the number one killer of most domestic animals. This fact raises a fearsome specter for those who know how confusing and painful it can be to endure the course of this disease in their pets. Having lost four animal companions to cancer, author Deborah Straw became frustrated by the lack of concrete knowledge about the causes, prevention, and treatment of cancer in pets. This thorough and comprehensive guide to every aspect of the disease in animals is the result of her search for answers.

Readers will discover the many environmental, dietetic, and vaccine-related culprits that may cause cancer in pets, and they'll learn preventive measures that can be taken to safeguard their pets' well-being. Should your animal's diagnosis be confirmed, the full spectrum of both conventional and alternative treatments is presented, from chemotherapy and laser surgery to herbal therapy, acupuncture, and touch therapy. Readers will find information about both caring for a sick animal and grieving its loss. Full of knowledge, options, and support, this is an essential resource for protecting your pet.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Good Start, but you'll need to buy additional books.......2003-03-03

I found the book easy to read and full of facts which served as a basis for me to expand my research. It is one of the better books I have read on dog cancer and alternative treatments. A positive point is that the book was not technical; it was easy to understand. It also provided some good references. However, I feel that the book cannot stand on its own as a guide for treatment or selecting alternative treatments and I was disappointed numerous times.

There were also areas where I felt the author should have included more information. For example, she referenced Vitamin C - rather than providing multiple examples of how Vitamin C saved dogs, I would have preferred some guidance on the various types of Vitamin C so I know which one I should purchase? Calcium Ascorbate, Ascorbic Acid, Ester-C, Sodium Ascorbate? What are the differences?

Another area of disappointment was that there was almost nothing on prednisone. Recently in talking to many folks whose dogs have been diagnosed with cancer, they leave the vet's office with prednisone when chemo is rejected as an alternative. The book was not helpful in this area at all. I am no wiser than before I read the book.

Above are just two of many examples where I felt the book did not contain sufficient information.

I began to question the accuracy of information in the book when I came to the section on chiropratics. I am familiar with chiropractics and was disappointed that she used incorrect terminology, did not seem to have her facts correct and referenced negative examples only. If she was not an advocate of chiropractics or was not familiar with the topic, she should have written nothing rather than to print inaccurate information.

I'm glad I bought and read the book; but I'm also glad it was not very expensive because I had to buy other books to fill in the gaps of missing information, as I cited above. I plan recommend the book to friends who have dogs with cancer. Although it is not an outstanding book, it is better than most I have read.

4 out of 5 stars Important Book for all Pet Owners.......2002-02-16

I recommend that all pet owners should read this book in order to do all they can to protect their loved furry ones from preventable cancer. However, I did find that some of the information in the book was more speculative than fact, so it is necessary to do some additional research on some topics before drastically changing your pet's lifestyle.

5 out of 5 stars Why is Cancer Killing Our Pets?: How You Can Protect and Tre.......2001-06-19

I recently discovered my beloved Rottie has cancer and this book helped me learn of the many options out there for treatment and how much of a problem companion animal cancer is becoming. It helped me center myself and get a better idea of the directions I could go. This book also helped me understand what to do from here on out, to help all my companion animals so that they live a healthy life. It explained the importance of a good, not overly processed diet. I am a board member of an animal protection organzation and have had dogs my entire life, and even with that I learned so much more from this book. If you love your animals read this book for them, it could change their lives and yours!!!

5 out of 5 stars A Book That's Needed To Have Been Written for a Long Time.......2001-02-13

Deborah Straw has addressed a problem that has been plaguiging more and more pet owners daily. This well documented book looks carefully at causes, preventions, treatments and very cautiously at cures for the epidemic of cancer which is devastating our pets today. She covers every aspect of the subject and makes her statements credible with references to the many professionals with whom she has consulted. Straw's understanding of this disease and its ramifications is thorough and comprehensive. She deals with traditional as well as non-traditional aspects of prevention and treatment, leaving out nothing. Thereby, she offers the reader a myriad of choices as well as the power to take charge when that dreaded diagnosis is made. As a pet health care professional and an owner of four dogs who have died of cancer, as well as one who has survived the disease, I found Straw's book enlightening and hopeful. It is a book with which every pet owner should be familiar.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Book on Cancer in Pets.......2000-12-30

I've had a cat with cancer for the past 15 months, so I've been reading everything I can get my hands on. This book not only talks about the diease itself, but covers all related topics--causes, nutritional support, insurance, and the loss. I especially like the sections on alternative care, which I believe can be as effective as any conventional treatment. Straw's resources are excellent, too, and she provides lots of fuel for further research. It's the only book of its kind, one you should add to your library even if your pet doesn't have cancer.

    Book Description

Cat lovers are famous for pampering their feline friends. These fury creatures eat the best food, wear the most fashionable collars, and enjoy the best toys. Let's face it: most cats rule their owners, so when they turn up their noses at their food, what are we supposed to do? Start cooking!

Cat Treats shows readers how to prepare an array of tasty and healthful appetizers, soups, and main meal for their cats. All the recipes have been adapted for feline tastes and nutritional requirements, and are generally low in fat to help prevent excessive calorie intake. Whether it's breakfast with Tiffany (Meowsli) or Tabby Appeteasers (Manx Meatballs), readers are sure to find dozens of recipes for dishes that any cat will enjoy. Some of the recipes are for cats and people alike (Lick Your Chops Pork Chops), and there are a number of holiday meals like No Fool Pie (for April Fool's Day) and a Christmas Oyster Stew that will keep any cat purring through the holidays.

But Cat Treats goes beyond just providing fun recipes for Tabby. The book discusses how to use treats when teaching cat tricks, what to do if your cat is too fat, and how to deal with food-related disorders.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars very fun and entertaining.......2001-07-19

I really like this book. It has a lot of fun little facts and hints and also some good recipes. As for those who reviewed and did not like because of the ingredients, remember these are treats, not just everyday food, plus it adds variety to your cats diet not to mention how excited they all get when you feed them their homemade treats. My cats also love this book dearly (they told me so) Even the most finicky cats love most all of these. Definetly a great book and will recommend it to anyone!!

4 out of 5 stars Not too bad a starting point..........2000-03-25

Unlike the former reviewer, I understand that cats can have dairy product in moderation (presuming one's cat has no lactose intolerance) so didn't find that aspect of the book disturbing. These are to be "treats" after all, not regular dining experience. Also, since I love to cook, the extra time spent on some of these treats is worth the effort because I will know exactly what is in them (unlike storebought treats)!

1 out of 5 stars You've got to be kidding!.......2000-03-20

This book is as bad as it's companion, Dog Treats. Again with the ingredients I wouldn't feed a cat, what happened to the age old don't feed your cat dairy rule? These receipes call for eggs, cottage cheese, butter and yogurt, and who has time to cook brown rice and biscuits? I was hoping for healthy treats but these are anything but healthy. The receipes have few ingredients and seem simple until you realize they must cook for 45 minutes. And although the publisher says you can make them while cooking your own supper, I can't remember the last time I made Bombay Kedgeree with brown rice, flaked smoked mackerel, parsley, and hard boiled eggs! Yech!

        Book Description

This study covers the latent demand outlook for semi-moist food and treats for cats across the regions of Greater China, including provinces, autonomous regions (Guangxi, Nei Mongol, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Xizang - Tibet), municipalities (Beijing, Chongqing, Shanghai, and Tianjin), special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau), and Taiwan (all hereafter referred to as “regions”). Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,100 cities in Greater China. For each major city in question, the percent share the city is of the region and of Greater China is reported. Each major city is defined as an area of “economic population”, as opposed to the demographic population within a legal geographic boundary. For many cities, the economic population is much larger that the population within the city limits; this is especially true for the cities of the Western regions. For the coastal regions, cities which are close to other major cities or which represent, by themselves, a high percent of the regional population, actual city-level population is closer to the economic population (e.g. in Beijing). Based on this “economic” definition of population, comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city’s marketing and distribution value vis-à-vis others. This exercise is quite useful for persons setting up distribution centers or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each region and city of influence, latent demand estimates are created for semi-moist food and treats for cats. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

            Book Description

This study covers the latent demand outlook for semi-moist food and treats for cats across the prefectures and cities of Japan. Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,000 cities in Japan. For each city in question, the percent share the city is of it’s prefecture and of Japan is reported. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city vis-à-vis others. This statistical approach can prove very useful to distribution and/or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each prefecture and city, latent demand estimates are created for semi-moist food and treats for cats. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.
