A classic must have!!.......2007-09-12
A classic book on dressage. It gives the reader an in depth look at how to effectively ride a dressage horse through the insights of the human anatomy. I've learned more about the fine details of dressage through this book than years of riding lessons!!! The vocabulary can be technical at times but push on and the end rewards will be well worth it.

This is the platinum standard for the spiral seat that is the biomechanical basis for dressage. The independent seat (spiral seat) is the origin of harmonious interaction between horse and rider.
These two doctors offer clear explanations of why a rider's seat "goes with" the horse if the spiral seat is employed. They make careful distinctions between learning natural motions of gaits from the horse by relaxing in the positions they describe and then being able to "go with" or enhance the performance of the horse with that "knowledge of the body." Drawings are clear but unfortunuately, the photos are not of high quality: that is the only drawback of this wonderful book. The Schuszdziarra father and son pair are also authors of "Reitergesprache: Der Weg zum unabhängigen Sitz" (Conversations with Riders: The Way to An Independent Seat) currently only in German, which is a follow-up volume. If enough people in the English-speaking world request it, perhaps it can be translated into English. It would make a perfect addition to the original volume.
As a dressage judge, actively competing rider and biologist, I wholeheartedly recommend this volume. Get it. Memorize it and never lock your hips with your gluteus maximus by turning out your toes. Practice its exercises to free your shoulders and hands from the actions of your lower body (independent seat). Your horse and you will be the more content for your efforts.
A MUST READ for the serious rider..........2003-01-29
I had ridden for years and did not understand what I was doing wrong until I read this book. I am a surgeon so the anatomy was not difficult, but might be daunting for the uninitiated. It is invaluable. Now my trainer says "you are riding like we do". Many try to describe the correct way to ride but none succeed like this father/son physician team. Get a copy if you can...
Excellent, thorough, not for the faint of brain.......2001-06-09
This book put me in the ribbons in equitation classes on a backyard pinto, but it's not an easy book to read. This is a book about the ANATOMY of the human being as it affects riding. It took me about an hour a page. The authors are dressage riders and physicians, they do not dumb the subject down. There are pictures, but you must concentrate to learn. I can remember the moment I applied my understanding to the posting trot. My instructor exclaimed "Two years of lessons and you've finally got it!" I never told him it wasn't his lessons. For difficulty of language, this is an adult's book.

Antique Fishing Tackle: Attractive coffee table reading.......2001-05-15
First, this is a larger 9 3/4" x 12 1/2" coffee table size book with 222 pages including many color plate pics of vintage fishing tackle including rods, reels, lures, reels, decoys and other related fishing equipment from the 1800's to 1950's and somewhat later. Very nice color pictures, and good explanations. Not a value guide but a fairly comprehensive look at vintage fishing tackle. A very well price value comparatively.

Great for Information.......2005-09-26
As a lure collector, I have several identification guides.
This book gets used more than the rest, simply because it is more an identification guide than a Value guide. (Sure, it has book value included(which means nothing compared to auction values), but, it also has way more information on the lures and companies themselves than most other ID books).
If you are looking for a complete library (if you want almost any lure identification at your fingertips--or in your head , as you learn about them all--), then you should definately include this one.
But (always a "but"), this book doesn't cover too many of the "small name" companies out there, or folk arts, nor many flies. But, if it's a top name company (Heddon, Creek Chub, South Bend, Shakespeare, etc.), you will find it in this book, up until 1975.
You cannot go wrong with this book...and if mine ever wears away with use, I'll keep purchasing new copies as needed.

This is one of the better guides. I really could not do business without it. You certainly will not be wasting your money on this one. Highly recommed it for the collector, dealer and those just interested.

my husband received an old tackle box full of lures from a friend who just did not want it any more. we knew there were some from the early 20's to 40's,other than that we knew nothing about them. we found several books we thought might help us. we had a tough time deciding between this one and several others on amazon. at the last min we decided to get this one and are we glad. has wonderful history, easy to use index. it is a wealth of information. we have identified dozens of tackle. this book is HIGHLY recommended if you have alot of old lures.

HAVE HAD LOTS OF LUCK FINDING GRANDPA'S LURES AND WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO THOSE WISHING TO IDENTIFY OLD LURES. MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THAT PAGES HAVE BEGAN TO FALL OUT OF THE BOOK CREATING A BIT OF A MESS.

(HIS PEACH PIT AND BANDAID WERE NOT LISTED.) THIS BOOK HAS STARTED A HOBBY WHICH I HOPE TO PASS DOWN TO MY CHILDREN. COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT THIS MASSIVE AMOUNT OF INFORMATION AND KNOWLEDGE! While the book generally does an outstanding job of deftly balancing good resarch and an entertaining style, it stumbles badly when west of the Mississippi. What happened to (at the least) Winston, or Powell? Neither one is in the index, and I could not find them in the text. The eastern U.S. bias is quite clear.

This is by far the best book that I have read and read and re-read on fly fishing tackle. The history of early bamboo fly rod makers is extraordinary, very informative and extremely interesting. If you are interested in fly fishing rods and reels, this book is well worth the price. This is a large book with lots of information on rods, reels, collecting, tackle manufacturing, tackle value, etc. etc. the list goes on. You won't be disappointed!

My husband and I know one of the authors, Tim Mierzwa, personally. He told us in August of 2005 that he had a book coming out about fishing lures and other equipment. We weren't sure what to think. But when we received the book recently, my

Colo Fishing Reels and some Obscure Rod Makers too.......2006-08-24
I'm not a reel collector as I'm a bamboo fly rod collector so this book isn't a must own for me as its focus is on fishing reels. There's not so many reels made in Colorado and there's not many high value reels in this book compared to say, the Kentucky reels. Finding historical info on the tackle makers in this book is very scarce so if you do collect any Colorado tackle, then this book is probably a must have for you.
What I found was decent historical info on a few obscure Colorado tackle makers that did build some bamboo fly rods and a few sporting good stores that did have some private labeled rods and reels made for them. This info makes the book worth buying for me as a bamboo fly rod collector... I'm sure for the fishing reel collectors it is probably a must own book. It's been out of print for several years and the price is still low, so it's a very good value for the collector as most collector books rapidly rise in price once out of print.
