A fascinating three-dimensional presentation allows in-depth, hands-on exploration of the subject at hand. This unique model is easily built, deconstructed, and rebuilt layer-by-layer, system-by-system, just by turning a page, until an understanding of the topic is achieved. Wonderful teaching aid!.......2006-11-18
This is a wonderful book that will help answer questions that children (and adults too!)will invariably have about these small wonders.
The embedded model nests well within itself, and the illustrations and text are full of interesting information about tarantulas. The organs are duplicated faithfully, compared to illustrations and photographs of dissected tarantulas I have seen, even with the enlargement. This makes understanding the anatomy and physiology much easier.
Children and adults will learn much about these misunderstood creatures and hopefully will treat them with more respect and dignity than they have received in the past. This book may go a long way to protecting and preserving these fascinating jewels of nature.
Awesome Educational Tools.......2006-09-12
My 8 year old son absolutely LOVES his T-Rex uncover book and is asking for all the rest of them for Christmas!! For young inquisitive minds, these books are ideal. My son loves looking at all the different layers and reading the great facts.
A definite + purchase!
Lots of Interesting Information.......2005-01-02
I am an adult who within the past few months has gotten very interested in tarantulas, and I now own 7 different species of them.
This book very concisely presents key facts about the tarantula anatomy (with a very illustrative clear model imbedded in the book itself, that peels away to show another layer of the spider's anatomy with each turn of the page), lifestyle, physiology, eating habits, and so forth.
I found the book extremely informative and based on hard scientific facts. A fairly quick read, I am keeping it handy for easy future reference.
This book made me appreciate even more these amazing animals!

The authors would have done well to include one of those "The more I learn about men, the more I love my cat" bumper stickers inside the pages of this book. It's full of advice along the lines of the pithy stuff found in last year's The Rules. Its authors, three 30-ish New York natives--a lawyer, a doctor, and an accountant--who refer to themselves as "professionals" over and over again, the better to convince you to cook their dinner--reveal all. Its sex advice reads like How to Make Love to a Man written with the acidity of Dr. Laura Schlessinger. Men like fellatio, stupid. Men like attractive women more than they like smart, successful women, stupid. Men would never get married except marriage means getting laid on a regular basis, you silly goose.
Brad, Chris, and Rich spice it all up by including detailed passages from their dating pasts: "They proceeded to Chris's apartment to listen to his extensive music collection. Next thing they knew, they found themselves rolling around on Chris's bed.... He wanted to get to know her before having sex with her, even if she didn't care either way.... Unfortunately, she was bewildered." They also answer ever-mysterious relationship questions. How to tell if your boyfriend is cheating on you? Check to see if the condom supply is dwindling at an unusual rate. Wondering why he doesn't introduce you to his parents? He doesn't want to marry you and thinks that meeting the folks would make wedding bells start ringing in your ears. Does he like it when you two are on a date and you talk about your ex-boyfriend? Nope.
Book Description
A Doctor, A Lawyer, and an Accountant tell You Everything You Need To Know About What Men Want.
If you're like most women, you're in the dark about what men really think about love. This enormously helpful book takes you into the heart and mind of the single professional male to show you not only what but how he thinks about dating and being in love, about what turns him on, and what sends him running in the other direction.

great information!.......2006-09-24
helpful for women of all ages and backgrounds to get right from the horses mouth. I learned a lot, and will recommend it to my clients.
HONEST AND BLUNT.......2005-05-18
I really liked this book. Why, you ask? Because it was honest, blunt, and, at many times, just plain hilarious! I loved that these guys would go so far as to tell you things like how to perform fellatio (what not do included...don't stop until he's finished). LOL Now THAT's honesty! I admit that a lot of what they say is disturbing, but in a good way. They tell you what goes on in the darkest confounds of a man's mind. Not ALL men, mind you. And this book does tend to focus on what they authors think all men want. But, in general, it covers meeting, flirting, dating, sex, commitment, and "the ugly truth" about men. If you're open-minded enough to read this knowing that it doesn't apply to the complete male race, you will love this book. I did. I learned a lot and I laughed a lot. I definitely recommend. :o)
A book by three men in the same catagory of men.......2005-05-07
If you want to be stuck in a relationship that is going no where or you want to just have a casual sex relationship, then this book is for you. If you want to be in a real relationship that leads to marriage then read something else like "The Rules".
All I can say about this book is "Duh" If you know any man (may he be your father, brother, uncle, cousin), then you know everything in this book. We know men like sports. We don't need 3-4 pages telling us this. Likewise men like sex. Men want to hang with their friends. Men look at other women. Men cheat. Men don't really want to get married. This book is just telling women to get over it and accept it. These three men represent all men the same way that Carrie Bradshaw represents every woman. If you're a Carrie, read this book. If not, stick to books where there is a wider varity of men. Besides they're still single. I'd much rather read books by married men telling how their wives captured them. Makes sense.
I was expecting to love this book BUT..........2005-02-27
I didn't! I found that it proposed a strict set of gender-based rules to follow, which seemed extremely sexist. These three male authors were well-intentioned and intelligent (although I didn't appreciate them reminding me constantly that they were "professional men," as if to imply that some redneck, beer guzzling lowlife from the trailer park might not have the same expectations for women!)
To be fair, Brad, Chris, and Rich are bright guys who were being honest and trying to give women the best advice possible, so that we can eliminate the wrong men from our lives, and cultivate the right ones. My problem with their advice is that they want women to accept men just the way they are even if that means that women have to play Barbie to get their Ken.
To recap some of the tips in this book, women are told not to ask a man out for a first date, not to use profanity initially, not to get too heavy or intense in terms of discussing politics or disagreeing with a man, or confiding one's life history, not to sleep with a man too soon, and not to call him that frequently. Women are also not expected to pay for the dates, although it's considered polite and generous if women offer to pay for a taxi or a round of drinks by the second or third date.
How does this advice differ from what mothers told their daughters 50 years ago? Oh, okay -- it's permissible to sleep with a guy somewhere around the fifth date. DUH!!!
The whole concept of being someone other than who you are in order to "capture" a man, who will invariably discover that you are another person three months later, is so revolting. Now, I'm not prone to sleeping with a total stranger, using a steady stream of expletives with someone that I don't know, or telling a brand new person that there is mental illness in my family. However, I need to be myself! I don't want to catch or capture anything, especially a person. I like to envision men just the way I view females -- I don't want to "get" one. I want to find and be with a guy who likes me for myself.
However, the very worst part of this book is that I suspect that most of what they said is true!@! That's what makes it depressing. Earlier this month, I read He's Just Not That Into You. I was prepared to hate that book BUT I loved it! Liz and Greg were so funny that it helped to cushion the hard truths. They were also more homey or earthy -- I'm not sure what it was but I found it easier to relate to them than to these three guys, possibly because Liz and Greg did not repeatedly remind me of their professional status.
Having said that, Liz and Greg made wild generalizations, which Rich, Chris and Brad did not make. The latter acknowledged all kinds of different reasons why a man may not contact a woman after their first date or meeting, why he may bail at some point in the relationship or fail to commit. To Liz and Greg, there was only one explanation -- he just wasn't into you. Like Liz and Greg, these three guys truly cared about helping women to find the right mate. Their heart is in the right place.
After reading these two books, I've decided not to read any more self-help books about the sexes! Ideally, I would like to be myself and to treat the men in my life exactly the same way that I treat the women. But realistically, I realize that by doing so I may alienate some good guys. It's a hard judgment call to make. I don't understand why men can accept the fact that women sit on the Supreme Court, operate in hospitals, and fly airplanes but those same competent and ambitious gals are not supposed to ask a man out on a date! Sad commentary.

enjoyed.......2004-09-09
i have not even finished reading this book but i really enjoy it. much of the stuff in here i already knew because i have several male friends who i talk to about these issues. i am also from a different cultural background from the authors and i thought it is interesting how men are really the same when it comes to dating and relationships and playing games no matter what their backgorund is. the book covers many topics and many different scenarios for women who are wondering if a certain man is right for them. but what it really boiis down to is just listening to our gut feeling. i recommend this book for any women who want to gain control of their relationships and not be tricked be any of these men who think they are slick

three plays by kaufman and hart.......2006-11-10
The reviews on these plays have been in for 70 years, so I can just say that the edition was clear and well-presented.
American comedy lives.......2005-09-12
Kaufman & Hart are comedy gold, and are alive and well in this wonderful collection of their best collaborative efforts. Unlike the acting editions, this publication contains the plays in their original condition, no lines changed or stage managers' blocking cues, just the good stuff. Kaufman & Hart's comedies not only stand alone as the greatest American comedic plays, but also as universal works adaptable to a modern stage. They created characters, and wrote lines that showcase biting wit, physical comedy, and plenty of unforgettable one-liners--a mixture that has something for everyone, and everything for many. You don't have to agree with me that Kaufman & Hart were/are America's greatest comedic playwrights (not to mention their other areas of theatrical expertise), but you should definitely give them a chance to convince you themselves. On top of their writing, this collection is both compact and affordable. A great buy, and an excellent read.
Very funny, needs updating for today's P.C. world........1998-09-16
The play centers around the crazy Sycmore family, particularly focusing on the younger daughter, Alice. Alice is engaged to Tony Kirby, but feels the gap between his straight-laced roots and her outlandish upbringing will be to strong. In an effort to dissuede her, Tony surprises her by bringing his parents to visit on the wrong night so they get an acurate idea of Alice's family. The night ends with the whole company being arrested for the illegal manufacture of fireworks. Alice plans to leave for the Adirondacks, but is stopped by Tony. His father comes for him, but Mr. Kirby is brought around to the other side by Grandpa, who points out a very important fact. Whatever possessions you have in life are of no consequence. You can't take it with you when you die.
Book Description
Based on a scenario by Carlo Gozzi and inspired by his original project, The Love of Three Oranges is a wild raucous slapstick comedy. A comedy in three acts. Prince Tartaglia's life is filled with misery until an evil witch and her equally evil henchmen concoct a plan to kill him by sending him on a quest for three giant oranges. This quest, however, soon proves more fruitful than he could have imagined. Once he leaves the sheltered world of the castle he finds a friend in a clown, love in an orange, and most of all laughter in everything he meets. Throw in witches, wizards, princesses, an effeminate unionized devil, a few ferocious inanimate objects, melodramatic monarchs and a wild narrator who isn't sure how far removed from the story he is and what you have in the end is a flurry of comedy, parody, and quality.

A great new version.......2004-12-23
Hillary DePiano's adaptation of The Love of Three Oranges is hilarious and fun. Better yet, it is a more accessible version that is easier for students to understand and relate to. Everyone should read this comedy.
I don't understand why Amazon is charging so much for this title. Sites like ebay, lulu.com and even the author's own website (hillarydepiano.com) all have it for under ten dollars.
A gem!.......2004-11-16
(...)Hillary Depiano's adaptation of 'For the love of three oranges' takes the reader completely by surprise, and is a little gem. In the first instance, tthe scene is set for a pseudo Shakespearean court drama with King this and Prince that, complete with snivelling courtiers. It is indeed all this, but far, far more, and is very, very funny, and on occasions, very ribald, but delightfully so. This review makes the reader want to read more, thus, this lady has cracked it, and well deserves her place on the best sellers list.
Couldn't stop laughing.......2003-12-14
It is that funny - amazing update of an old art form - thoroughly enjoyed reading it - would love to see it produced -
highly recommend
Funny Play.......2003-11-15
: My daughter was in a performance of this play a few years ago. I don't know anything about commedia dell'arte or anything about theatre history related. She is the one who knows all that. I am just Mom. ;-) Because she acts I end up seeing a lot of plays. I do know that this was one of the funniest plays I have seen in a long time. I was more entertained than I was at some Broadway shows! I laughed the entire time. It was just perfect lighthearted fare but still had some very clever story telling going on. I guess it's a compliment to the writer that I had no idea until I was told afterwards that this play was many centuries old!
Finally! An accessible version of this text!.......2003-11-05
I have been teaching this play in my high school level Drama class for quite a while and had grown just a little tired of students not reading it and insisting it was too boring and out of date. As frustrating as it was as an educator, I also couldn?t help but feel there must be a better way to present this great story without it being bogged down in jokes so old you need a footnote on every line. I began asking my colleagues if anyone knew of a better version. Several years later, I?d still had no luck. (Word to the wise, the DiGaetani version, which seems to be one of the more modern, is pretty awful. It must have lost a good deal in the translation for not only is it not that funny, but it?s also rather disjointed and poorly written.) A friend of mine had seen this play produced at Bucknell University at Lewisburg, PA in 2002 and was very impressed with that version both in terms of the story line and the comedy. She had recommended that I find out what edition that director had used. It turned out that the director had the same problem with finding a good version of the text and had decided to re-write the play herself and that her version was currently available on Amazon and BN. Once I finally had the opportunity to read this version myself I was amazed at the difference the text had in DePiano?s hands. The story line is a bit different than the original, I don?t want to say too much to give it away, but it?s taken on a sort of fractured fairy tale feeling with characters and plots gone awry. (The Speaker of the Prologue is now the Narrator and he quickly became my favorite character!) It is simply wonderful! Not only is the story engaging and the characters far better developed than in any previous version I had read, but the play is very very funny. It is a full playtext, not a scenario, and while there is still plenty of room for improvisation, there is a structure to the narrative which makes it easier to use as a text for classroom study. I handed out this version in class a few weeks ago and, for a glorious change, every last one of them not only read it this time: they loved it! A few of them have been pestering me do it as our straight play next fall! I have to admit it would be an excellent choice for not only is it a great ensemble piece, it also has many roles that could switch easily from male to female and back again (always a plus when the gender balance is skewed as it is in our school). I have never written a review on Amazon before and I apologize if I am gushing a bit, but after so long a search, it is wonderful to finally find such an accessible version of this text to teach my class! Rest assured that this is the best version of the versions out there!

Book Description
The experiences of three rural and remote communities challenge common beliefs about the lack of opportunity for rural youth to participate in meaningful and instructive school-to-work experiences in their own small rural communities. But to create such opportunities, schools, community members, and policy makers had to work together. The author describes how the programs succeeded, including planning phases and creating policy support for innovative approaches. Book includes advice and resource information for readers who would like to try similar approaches in their own communities.

Take Three Poets
Take Thomas Sayers Ellis: Ellis's fractured syntax, his spasmodic, staccato utterance suggest a defiant sensibility. Indeed, at the center of Ellis's work is the figure of an aggressive father, taunting his son into song. Thomas Sayers Ellis was a founding member of Boston's Dark Room Collective and coeditor of AGNI's successful poetry anthology, On the Verge
Take Larissa Szporluk: This poet stalks a landscape that is humid, stylized, Southern. The poet Gregory Orr says of her work: "Faced with such rending beauty, such ravished lucidity, all we can do is stand back and gaze with gratitude and awe." Larissa Szporluk studied at the Iows Writers' Workshop, has taught at Bowling Green State University, and now resides in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Take Joe Osterhaus: Unabashedly intellectual and demanding, Osterhaus's verse displays a rare elegance. According to David St. John, "these precise meditations are dazzling for their ability to touch the seemingly ordinary moments of a life and find in them the materials of both miracle and change." Joe Osterhaus has published in such places as the Antioch Review, the Boston Review, and the Nebraska Review, and he currently lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Edited by Askold Melnyczuk and the poetry panel of AGNI magazine, Take Three is the first in an important annual series designed to launch the work of new poets.

Stunning and Informative.......2004-03-19
